So leslieshappyheart and I weren't actually swap partners in this swap, but we were in the latest IYP swap. We decided to swap prayer flags along with some other amazing items and I just can't help but post a picture of her very first one.  I hope that is ok-  maybe this will help get all your creative juices flowing!  Isn't it lovely?!

I received my flag from Susanb over the weekend but was working a craft show all weekend.  I didn't get a chance to open it until today and boy was I blown away when I did.

One of my prayer requests was for my brother who is a full time Firefighter.  This flag is amazing and so elegant with the perfect simple saying of "protect those who protect us", I am very moved and thrilled with it.  I was going to hang it on my porch but I showed it to my brother who is now going to take it to the station and fly it there.

Pictures:
Front of Flag - so beautifuly done and finished:

Close up of prayer:

Back to show how
nicely it was finished:

Susan - I can't thank you enough for creating something so awesome for me - I really don't have the words to express how much it means to me.  I just wish I could yank mine out of the mail and redo it since it doesn't measure up to what I received.

Mary Colleen

Great flag, Susan, perfect for those we just take for granted are there to serve us!

- MaryColleen, I know how you feel - I feel that same way when I swap, most every time!  Wishing I could re-do or add-to!  I'll bet your prayer flag to Susan is just as special!

That firefighter flag is really great and it's really awesome it's going to hang at the station!

I received from Waggonswest before I left for work on Saturday and am just now able to post pics.

First of all she sent me this flag with an angel and the word 'love' on it. I am a spiritual person who grapples with my religious views and have for some time now. My older sister is battling cancer and I pray daily for her. I asked in my questionnaire to have a flag to represent those prayers.

She also sent me a flag for my sister. She's going to be visiting me in a few weeks so I'll show her it then. If she wishes to take it back home with her I want her to. Otherwise I'll hang it outside with mine. (My sister lives in an apartment in Chicago so not sure if she'll have a place to hang it.)

Thank you so much, Waggonswest! I love my flags!

Shannon,  So glad you liked them.  I was a bit stressed after seeing the lovely and substantial flags that have been posted so far.  They are all so beautiful and so finished.  I was really thinking about making something fluttery to catch the slightest breeze and send good wishes on their way.

The all white flag  is hard to photograph.  Here is another look at.  It is one of my digitizing attempts and I actually had to create stitches.  That is a first for me.

I can't wait to see the rest of the flags!  There is already so much variety.  What a fun swap!

Those flags are both wonderful, waggonswest!  They really embody the original idea of the prayer flags, to be light and airy.

I love the white-on-white flag! I've been working on getting more colour into my flag, and this goes in the opposite direction. And I hadn't really thought about angels on flags, but it really resonates with me. It would be a good thank-you for prayers answered, for example.

my wonderful prayer flag from MaryColleen arrived today! she created my flag using my favorite theme, my faith.

the lace is lovely! she selected it specially for me because i really like black and white a ton. the bright pink coming through the lace brought her to the quote on the back:

Faith is the light that guides us through darkness.

Wow!
and wow. I've been reading what some pastors have had to say about Colorado this week--and what my own pastor says. And to have a prayer flag that goes right to that is really a wonderful gift. Thank you so so much!

I received today from silentblair and it is the COOLEST!

She used bright colors, per my wishes, and then used the word "Experiment" to try out some cool techniques.
1 - Bleach pen and fabric marker
2 - Sharpie tie-dye with rubbing alcohol
3 - Rubber stamping
4 - Free-motion stitching

It's so funny/psychic/coincidental that I just discovered the Sharpie tie-dye method after seeing a post here on Craftster about faux-batiking. So as YouTube does, I watched all the videos that were suggested along with the batik ones. And I was hoping for a Round 2 of this swap so I can try it out. I just love the message, the effort that went into making it and it will serve as a reminder to me to think outside the box!!

Here's the back view - just because:

I will show an action shot, when I receive the second one. I bought those sticky hooks that go on your wall and don't leave any residue to hang my flags on over sewing/craft table.

Yahoo! I love this swap!

so far all the flags are awesome!!!

I rec'd my seriously beautiful prayer flag today from SilentBlair! She chose a topic/phrase that has been close to my heart these past weeks. little background: i miscarried last year and recently found out i am pregnant...so this is a very dear prayer for me right now. <3

She used fabric from her own son's old clothes which is so touching and meaningful.
When I opened this up today, I got all choked up. I love it. <3
Thank you SilentBlair, for putting so much into this flag. It means a lot to me!

YAY! Both my partners got their flags on the same day!

Smmarrt, that's amazing about the sharpie tie-dye. A word to the wise, definitely test the different colors first as they may "spread" different ways...mysterious ways. Oooooo.
The bleach pen gave me fits! I could really make it easy on myself next time by not trying to do such small letters that tend to bleed into each other.  :D :D :D
I loved the fiesta ware color scheme for your flag too. SO FUN!

Taloola, your flag was a sentimental one for me too. I choked up a bit in taking the pics. I loved how the colors went together and the cordoroy pants for the background I thought gave a neat texture. (Did you notice I tried to incorporate a mason jar? I loved that pin board of yours because, I too am a fan of them!  ;))

Both flags we so different but SO fun and challenging!

Now, off to Duluth for to see Thomas the Tank Engine...live...big train...get to ride....son will LOSE HIS MIND!!!!!

I'm loving all these flags. Once everyone has received, I would love to see all the flags photoshopped into one image, all flying together! That would probably be a huge image...I don't have Photoshop but I might start trying this out, if no one else is dying to take on the project.  :)

I love all the new flags. They all have so much meaning.

Funny but I was thinking about the image collaboration and then you posted about it.  ;D

Wulf perhaps we could break them into groups of say 9 for each image. Fine the 9 that go best together and string those into 1 image and work on the next 9. lol
 ;D

what a task it would be. I too have photoshop and gimp(which is free and pretty good too)

I received my first flag yesterday, and it didn't take too long coming from Britain. Of course Phizzychick sent super-early, which helped a lot.

Look at how great this is! It includes not only one of the words from my list   but several of my other favourite textile things - vintage lace, linen, random stitching, etc.

Here's a detail to show the layers and the stitching.

And almost as good as the flag itself is this piece of printed card that Phizzy attached the flag to so it would stay flat in the envelope. Not a forbidden extra, of course, just packing material! ;)

Thanks for this!

Wulf

The ascend flag is so cool!
I LOVE the different ribbons, lace, and dare I say I saw a bit of ric rac there! I can't get enough of that stuff. Super use of texture Phizzychick, that Wulf is one lucky guy!

We made it through our Thomas the Train vacation somewhat intact.
Will was all excited about driving the actual train, and here's a pic of him when he found out he was just going to be a passenger...

It pretty much sums up his attitude for the rest of the day. Poor little guy, his hopes and dreams were smushed.
Other than that we had a great time.  ;)

That is such a great shot, silentblair. Looks like he was making a train whistle. I guess a Thomas the tank coup was out of the question, it being vacation and other families can be so, well, you know when it comes to a sudden revolution.

Someday, he'll be at the helm and you'll post that picture here, too :)

I got a wonderful flag from Calluna.  It is absolutely perfect- and sparkly too!  Doesn't get any better than that, I love it. :D

It says "There is beauty inside outside throughout"

I only wish I was able to capture the colors in her felting...it's really a gorgeous purply/pinky color.  With sparkles (yay sparkles!).  I love the organic look of it.

I haven't hung it up properly yet, it's just on the wall with ribbon so I can gaze at it for the moment. :)  Thank you so much, Calluna!  You've been an awesome partner!

I love the color scheme and the bee on the leaf is BEEUTIFUL!

Such a clever idea to felt the fabric for the "beauty" flag!!!

Thank you! (sorry for the rather crappy picture, its a dark and stormy night here...)

I'm loving the bee on the thankful flag too and calluna's felted flag is spectacular!  I was hoping someone would do a felted flag....the shisha mirrors are a lovely touch :)

It's so hard to get a photo of that felted flag; I tried and didn't have much luck getting the color either! (and at the moment I can't upload photos...) It's a really shimmery, iridescent fiber batt that is lovely in person but simply does not photgraph well.  :) I'm pretty sure this (http://www.etsy.com/transaction/7295154) is the original fiber, from loop on Etsy.
Yes, the flap on the back is shisha embroidery, and that's about all I did with the back. I kept dithering between "less is more" and "embellish/finish more"!

Not in this swap but had to take a peek at the gallery.

Everything in here is gorgeous.

The flag that Taloola received and the story behind it brought a tear to my eye. How special is it that the maker used her own son's clothing to make that flag? I wish you all the best in growing your little one.

Lovely 'be still' flag. So many textures, and I love the bird!

The bells on the Thankful flag are a great touch....wait, I think I can hear them tinkling in the breeze!
I love the color scheme and the bee on the leaf is BEEUTIFUL!

Thanks, silentblair, but I think it would take an earthquake to make those bells tinkle...I sewed the whole thing onto heavy canvas, so it ain't flappin'!!

I'm glad you like the "Be Still" flag, alteredmommy!  I loved making it.  I find that I can be much more creative with fabric when I don't worry about finishing the edges!

Wow - Leslie's two flags are amazing, Phizzychick's flag is just gorgeous, and I love calluna's felted flag. Beautiful work guys.

Super cute pic of little man, silentblair - it's always a toss up whether I'll get jekyll or hyde with my little guy, and you never know what will set off one or the other!

One more amazing flag to add to the gallery!  Mine arrived from Shannon at the end of last week.

It represents harmony and tranquility...  Sticking your toes into peaceful water.  Believe me the sentiment couldn't be more appropriate!  I absolutely love it.  The applique is fabulous.  The background fabric is gorgeous.  I LOVE IT!

Thanks Shannon.

Received from ShannonMN a flag for my theme “Let Go.”  I’ve been trying to write a succinct but descriptive post about how perfect the flag she created is for what I’ve been working on releasing for some time now, but I can’t seem to condense it down to less than a full page of typing, so this will have to suffice: it’s about love and anger and siblings and the death of my beloved mother.  And it isn’t that I’ve been hanging onto all of this or not moving forward, but I HAVE let things some things slide and some things slip and just ignored other things altogether, feeling adrift without my emotional anchor, though still making headway with life.

The joyful silhouette on Shannon’s prayer flag is a wonderful reminder of my sweet mama, who loved to dance, and who I know would be sad to think that I was even the tiniest bit held back by her loss.  Even the colors in the fabric and hand-painted stars are ones Mom would have liked (and I love how Shannon placed the print, too), so it makes me smile that much more every time I see it.

In the jungle-y overgrowth outside one of my living room windows I found a twiggish branch of a juniper I could slip through the slim pocket of the flag, so it’s now positioned where I can easily see it and be re-energized by what it symbolizes to me.

In a couple of weeks I’ll bring it inside to stay.

Thanks so much Shannon; every time I spy your flag I truly feel like I’m making a little more progess than before.

I'm not in this swap but have been following it since signups.  These flags are absolutely beautiful. I love all of them.  I can't sew to save my life (which is why I didn't join)  but did just receive a used sewing machine for free so I'm hoping I can figure it out and try out one of these on my own.  I have a friend getting ready to redeploy to Afghanastan and I can see a camo patriotic prayer flag in my head for him.  Maybe if all goes well I can join in a future swap.  Thanks or sharing and inspiring.   :)

And plucky1_08 - You don't have to sew these on a machine - there's glue, hand-stitching, embroidery, stamping and lots of other stuff I haven't even thought of yet...Go fot it.

The flag theatreorchid sent me is rocking my socks off:

(the scanner shows the detail better than a photo for this particular flag)
I had a whole truckload of themes/prayers on my list, but I'm sure it became clear in our conversations how suffocated I feel while stuck living in a heavily-polluted area and how much I value being in nature (and how jealous I am that she lives in the Pacific Northwest  :D)...She gave me a forest as a result! The tree to the left says "breathe"; much easier to see in-person than to capture on the screen. The trees in the foreground are sewn onto the green surface, and all the details and background are painted/drawn.

And here is the beautiful back, with variegated embroidery...I didn't expect so many people to do nice things with the backs of the flags! (Lacking a sewing machine, the fabric ones that I'm making have so far been unfinished on the back, but maybe I should stick some backing fabric on with fusible web or something....)

It was all wrapped up in tissue paper with a lovely note and it feels like something sacred. It is exactly what I need, and I love it!

I'm so glad you like it!  I really wanted to create something meaningful for you.  It was a pleasure to make- it just felt "right" and everything on it just came together (I love it when crafts happen like that).  I have to admit though- you're giving me a little too much credit for the painting!  While I did paint the texture on the trees and the larger background trees, I was lucky enough to find this (http://www.joann.com/novelty-fabric-shenandoah-tree-texture/zprd_11161874a/) beautiful fabric at JoAnn and it did most of the work for me. ;)

The postman has been and I have mail from Tanza and Abbeeroad - how cool that I got them both on the same day  :D
I'm not allowing myself to open them until I have been to the PO and posted Abbies flag, when I come home I can then add to the gallery and also comment on all the flags that have been added since my self imposed gallery ban!
I didn't want to be influenced by any of the other flags or feel like mine weren't up to the mark (though I'll probably think that when I see them all anyway  ::))
Off to get dressed and go to the PO. Back soon  ;D

I surprised myself Leslie  :D I even stopped looking at the "recent with pics" tab  :o

OK, here we go....

I have to say I am sat here with tears unashamedly streaming down my face. Both of my partners sent not only a flag for me but also for my eldest son,Josh who has really been in need of some prayers recently.
Josh was going to make me a Grandma, his daughter very sadly died in uetero. July was a particularly hard month for us as that is when she was due to be born. One of the themes I specified on my list was a memorial for Maya Starr and both Tanza and Abbeeroad have done us proud. Thank you seems inadequate but it is a most sincere and heartfelt thank you to you both.

First I opened Tanzas packet so I will share those with you now.

for Josh.

and for me

and from Abbeeroad

for Josh.

for me

They are beautiful and I love them all and I know that Josh will too. I don't know if either of us will be able to bring ourselves to hang them outdoors though! For now mine are going on to my mantlepiece alongside my summer wreath.

Looking through the gallery was an absolute joy, every flag completely different and wonderful.

Particular favourites (at this moment it can & will change!) are
"let go" by ShannonMN
"ascend" by Phizzychick
"may you grow" bySilentBlair

Thank you for hosting this Leslie & Susan  :-*

The flag is just awesome wiht the greatest boot on it.  I love that both of my flags had the same theme but they are so different.

Close up of boot - isn't it perfect?

Thank you so much Mandys_momma, I love it.  Yours is on its way, I will send the DC # to you now!

The firefighter boot from mandys_momma is great, and how wonderful that it will hang in a fire station where it will mean so much to so many!  And, your owl flag is so cute!  Love the details on the owl.

Waggonswest, I love your sun-painted flag! It does indeed convey harmony.

Today I received this wonderful prayer flag from the talented Phizzychick!  I love the colors, and the stamped letters spelling out "peace".  The birds' nest is cut from a piece of fabric and appliqued in place, and the bird theme is continued in the ribbon at the bottom of the flag.  The whole piece is just lovely!

There's even a flower on the back!

Thanks so much, George, I love this beautiful flag; it really is perfectly peaceful!

Both of mine in the mail today. I think they may also be a bit hard to photograph, but perhaps Rosie and Phizzychick have better cameras than I do. Or better lighting.

Great "Peace" flags!
So many cool flags around, and Wulf is SO amazing for the photoshop-idness!

I, however received from the wonderful Smmarrt today and I am also at peace...
or should I say

SERENITY!

She hit the nail on the head for me. I love this flag so much!
Backstory:
I have 2 kids under the age of 5 (well 5 and 3 to be exact) and I stay at home with them. The one haven I have is my bedroom and I wanted the flags for there to keep me serene. (I already have a little sign in the boys room that says "SERENITY NOW!"

I asked for texture and neutral colors and I love how she used both.
Especially love the typed paper in the flower.
(I saw that on Smmarrts pinterest too and racked my brain how to incorporate it into her "experiment" flag, but was not clever enough to come up with a way.  KUDOS TO YOUR CLEVERNESS, SMMARRT!)

Thank you ever so much, this flag came at such a perfect time for me!!!

Smmarrt, I love your serenity flag too!  The simple flower and quiet colors will be great in Blair's bedroom retreat.

I think I need a sign saying "Serenity now!" (Or perhaps "Serenity now, dammit!")

The style of fabric collage that Smmarrt used - simple, uncluttered and clean-edged - is something that I literally cannot do. I've tried, and it always turns into something else or just goes messy. It's annoying, because I really like that look. Maybe I need to take a class.

RandiMaehym, I love the colors and the gold paint you used on your flag.  Nice!

This is the prayer flag I just received from miknessevie today.  We agreed to exchange them as part of our IYP swap, but this one didn't make it into the box she sent me...and I think it will be better appreciated by this group, so I'm posting it here!

It appears to be made from a recycled garment, in my favorite shade of blue.  In addition to the buttons and small stars scattered across the front, the word "listen" has been stamped into polymer clay and sewn to the flag.  Beautiful!  It makes me want to pause and listen!  Thanks so much, miknessevie!

i got my flag from taloola yesterday!

The phrase was "do more than just hear, listen"
I need to be reminded of that and to let my mind slow down enough to accomplish it.  :)

Here is the pic and I just love it to pieces!!!

Thank you Taloola!

I received in record time from alteredmommy - "Create"

It is hand-painted fabric with buttons, some fibers (or fibres as you Great White North people say), and netting in the center.

A detail shot of the bunting and zipper pull accents:

And yay for me, I received an alteredmommy card! I saw your post in this project so I am thrilled to own one!

Thanks so much all! Whoo hoo!

I have been horribly remiss in posting a picture of the gorgeous prayer flag I received from A2K last week!

Isn't it gorgeous? The verse is "You will call, and He will answer; you will cry out, and He will say, "I am here."

I love it so much! Thank you A2K! I hope you like the flag I made for you.  :)

Hanging in the window of my craft room:
Notice the windchime? Sounds wonderful!

ANd here's a closeup of the message: Tune into the heart of God

Thanks so much for great flag! I really like it.

Tanza, the "serenity" flag is beautiful!!

Today I received a fabulous flag from alteredmommy.  It is an amazing piece of art; no way am I hanging this outside!

The front lifts up to reveal a hidden pocket where I can write the things I am happy for!

The detail on these circles at the top is amazing.

and this little bird is the cutest thing!  It is printed on sheer fabric so the whole thing is very light and airy.

Thanks so much, Cheryl, this is really something special to me.  I love it!!

I've been looking at and loving this gallery since I got home from Santa Fe. Every one of these prayer flags is right to the heart. I'm sorry that I haven't seen them as they've been posted!

PS--Wulf, that's so cool that you've been able to photoshop our flags together.
 :D
I love the shape of the flag that you made, Calluna. Having just gotten back from the southwest, it really reminds me of a buffalo. I love all the textures and I love the sentiment!

I was lucky to get a sneak peek at Leslie’s “Be Still”. Just beautiful—so many different facets and parts to it, coming together for that thought. It’s a treasure.

ShannonMN—It blows my mind that anyone looking at your harmony flag-- it looks like their own feet are stepping into the waters. That is an amazing point of view. And your “Let go” flag is lovely. So light and airy and carefree.

theatreorchid—both sides of this flag are wonderful. You have brought nature to calluna. Love the details on the trees—that looks photographic! And the other side is a prayer of thanks for nature. Beautiful.

So much creativity and care in the four flags that you received, Kookaloo_Starr.
Tanza—so sweet, so thoughtful. That Maya-Starr heart is just beautifully crafted. So is your “Blessed Be”.  Wow.

Abbeeroad—I love the pieced background to your Maya Starr flag, That is exceptional! Your peace flag is also totally awesome.

Great flags, Mandys_Momma! I really like your interpretation of a prayer flag for MaryColleen’s brother and his co-workers. Beautifully done—the station folks will really like that! Great great owl. You did an awesome job sewing that and I love the words here, too!

Wagonswest—that is really really nice. Sun painted with leaves?! Even on screen, those greens are gorgeous. That really speaks harmony—and that you created it in tune with nature is just fantastic.

Wow, Phizzychick, I love the peace flag that you created for Leslie! That appliqué nest is gorgeous.  the whole piece—every part that you selected and crafted, beautiful.

Two really heartfelt peace flags that you received, zuliblu.
I love your embroidery, fabricfriend, and I really like the fish theme. It’s out of the box—not a typical image for the theme. Well done!
And a whole other interpretation from abbeyrd83! That is so fun. I especially love that the sunbather/beachgoer’s back is towards us—makes it eaiser for me to imagine that it’s ME! Nice nice craftin’!

That really is a great flag from, Smmarrt! Again, I love how so many different elements can come together—in a relatively small area—and form such beauty. Very very nice!

Waterbaby—awesome! That is a PRAYER! The colors and the light,, the shape of the hands and how they are positioned—awesome.

RandiMaehym—You are branching out and piecing together fabric! Im with you, waterbaby—it’s an idea I need to remember.

The more the merrier—very nice flag, miknessevie! And another word of wisdom that I can use—ever minute. Very sweet, yes, great color and I like that the focus is on Listen.

What is it about burlap that just sucks me in??
I love this prayer flag by taloola. Burlap seems so rustic and unadorned that the embellishments—especially the word Listen-- you put on it really stand out. Very nice.

I love the two flags that you made, alteredmommy. I love the colors of the Create flag-- the pennant shapes and the zipper pulls. The swirls and adornments. It’s a great invitation to get into the whirlpool of making art.  the Serentity flag is awesome—you are amazing with colors and I especially love the fibers. Beautiful pieces of art.

A2K—I have to read further to see if you rvealed how you did that awesome lettering. I love that verse to pieces and you have done a beautiful rendering of it!

MaryColleen—a WINDCHIME flag??  GO ON! That’ a brilliant idea. Love the prayer!

Tanza—that is crazy beautiful embroidery and I just love the colors that you selected. You have worked that piece to an amazing outcome. Great flag!

ah, finally able to post images of my flags. I absolutely loved this swap (even though I was late in sending one--due to unforeseen circumstances coming up) -- I would love to participate in the next one should it come to be.

These are the flags that I received from rosie1981(left) and theatreorchid (right). Both unique and perfect in their own ways.

rosie1981 hand-dyed the fabric used for the flag and had hand embroidered designs on it. Loved the weathered look that the hand-dying give the flag and the various ways she has chosen to accent the phrasing on it.

theatreorchid blew me away with her flag as the sand and thought behind her choices hit a personal note with me. ( I can only hope that she receives her flag with a similar sentiment as I have with mine)

Mandys_Momma - I'm glad you liked your flag, I still haven't sent the note I left out  :-[ but I wanted you to know that the heart is cut out of a paint sample card.  I was really trying to do something to match your request to do a traditional symbol in a different way.

I also wanted to post pictures of my 2 flags hanging at my Brothers Fire Station.  Thanks again Ladies - it really means a lot to me that you both picked a theme close to my heart.  They are a little hard to see because they were taken with a phone but they are there.

Thanks, susanab, for saying everything I would like to say!  ;D I don't even know where to begin with all the praise and well-wishes I would like to shower on everyone (so maybe I should make a flag on behalf of all of you!  ;)) I love this gallery; I hope it gets into the Best Of 2012. There's been something on every page, it seems, that completely touches my heart.

The instructions from Cloth Paper Scissors and the Prayer Flag Project website talked about how quickly these flags could be cranked out (half an hour's time, instant gratification, etc), and while that's possible with some techniques, it's clear that so much more time and thought and heart went into each flag in this swap. Everyone's created something so special and heart-felt...and you've all humbled me with your skills!

Rosie1981, I love the different lettering styles you used on your flag; they are the perfect compliment to the quote you chose to use.

theatreorchid, you flag looks like it was designed to flutter in the breeze!  I love the long "streamers".

Calluna, I agree that this swap is more special than most; it's the personal quality of each prayer flag that makes the whole thing so meaningful.

One more little thing I need to mention:
TODAY IS SUSANAB'S BIRTHDAY!!  Happy Birthday to you, Susan!!

I recieved from Kookaloo_star today but it was dark when I got home from TAFE so I will take photos tomorrow when the sun is shinning.

So many awesome flags and each one has such perfection and meaning to it.

All I can say is that I have pinned quiet a few ;)

I got my second flag today, from Rosie1981.

In addition to my list, I said "do whatever you like" and she did this beautifully minimal forest sketch in oil pastels, and embroidered the text on it. (Unfortunately the photo doesn't show how textural the embroidery is in real life.)

Thanks, Rose! I love Robert Frost, and I like how you only needed three words to suggest the entire poem.

First off Happy Belated Birthday Susan!!! I'm so sorry I wasn't on the boards to see yesterday! I hope you had a fantastic day!!!

Secondly, I received my play from Jen Sews!!! I actually got it yesterday but our internet was down for most of the day.... and I couldn't upload from my phone.... So here it is in all its glory! She made a flag for my daughter! She is just getting big soo fast! She's almost 2! It feels like yesterday we brought her home from the hospital!

She's our little bird! Thanks so much Jen for the amazing flag! The flag is drawn with crayons and I'm quite sure she said watercolors too? ... She was worried about rain.... but I have a special place in our sun room for it! So no worries!

All right, here I am finally with my wonderful flag from sparks!

She blended a few of my themes/prayers (including dragons, hope, courage, shiny things, and "depression lies"...it's a very powerful flag!) into one very meaningful and very timely flag. :)  It is a dragon's eye peering out from the darkness.

The texture on it is incredible.  The scales are painted, sewn and embellished with wire, and the beadwork around the edges of the eye really looks like beautiful shining scales.  The part around the shiny button (?) pupil is crocheted.

Thank you so much, sparks!

This has been such an awesome swap, I love this gallery.  I'm ready for round 2! :D

Thanks, Leslie!  The horse is based on a rubber stamp, which has both solid and "open" geometric areas.  It was lightly stamped with a permanent ink and heat set, the solid portions were colored over with a reddish brown Sharpie (and a little black on the rear quarters), and then I colored in the geometrics and along the back and rear, also with Sharpies.

You had also asked about the hands on the flag I made for ShannonMN, which were, indeed, appliqued.

And thanks to those who've left positive comments about both my flags -- I've been having connectivity issues or I'd have acknowledged your kind words before now!

My deepest apologies to Cinnamoon for taking so long to post pictures of the beautiful prayer flag she sent to me:

It is beautifully stitched onto a piece of cotton batting -- if I ever decide to put it outside, the birds will take it for nesting, which is a neat idea -- the light being sent into the world on the beaks of birds.  The words say, "In Him there is no darkness at all"

I need to share the wonder of the words Cinnamoon chose for this flag.  I am subbing as the church organist at the moment and one of the hymns we sang this last Sunday was "I want to walk as a child of the light."  I was on my way to rehearse when I picked up the mail.  Immediately, the refrain started in my mind, "In him there is no darkness at all. The night and the day are both alike.  The Lamb is the light of the city of God.  Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus!"  Is that not incredible?!!!

Thank you, Cinnamoon.  This is a lovely reminder that I am not alone!

anyway, thank you for the lovely flag, zuliblu. i hope you are feeling better, too!

I am sending healing vibes for your mom!  Thank you for the well wishes, I am feeling much better thank you.

Finally have a chance to look through the gallery since the first few postings.

I love the layers and textures in them

oh, CraftyMamaBee . . . my heart did a little happy dance there, the flag is fantastic.

Rosie1981 the flag you did for Wulf brings back memories of middle school when I had to memorize that poem -- makes me smile. (as far as the universe . . . one of my used television quotes if from Seinfeld's "serenity now" episodes)

Jen Sews got the flag I sent her, yay! I was worried it had gotten lost in the mail. Her camera is broken though, so I'll post a picture of what the flag looks like:

My last prayer flag from Smmarrt has arrived!  the fabrics she chose are gorgeous as is the  variegated thread she used to stitch around the edges.  I love all the nifty bits like the little doily on the back, the polka dot person, the button sunflower and most of all the sentiment of "Be Kind" ;D

Thank you!

This swap has been so inspiring with so many beautiful flags.  It makes me so happy ;D

Rosie1981 is swamped with work and hasn't had time to post a photo of the flag I sent her, so I'll do so.

This wasn't one of the words on Rose's list - I just had the idea of incorporating something round into the middle of it, and it evolved into a dreamcatcher, which led to the text. It's a vintage linen handkerchief, cut down in size and dyed. The writing is done in puff paint.

Wulf I love that flag it is so beautiful in it's simplicity.

I must apologise that I am only now posting a photo of the lovely flag that Rosie sent to me even though I have had it for a week..everything seemed to get hectic for a bit. :)

Faith was her chosen word and I love the quote.
"The way to see by Faith is to shut the eyes of reason." Benjamin Franklin

I have received a truly beautiful flag from Wulf. It's so perfect, thank you!

You can't see it too well, but the dragonfly wings are a lovely sparkly silver thread.

I love these last few flags--the text on the "dream" flag is amazing, especially considering it was done with puff paint!  That's some good control there, Wulf!  And the embroidery and coloration of the "namaste" flag are beautiful.

Rosie1981, I LOVE the "faith" quote from Benjamin Franklin.  I'm going to have to borrow that!

It looks like there is just one flag left to come, then the gallery will be complete!  Smmarrt is working hard on an angel flag for Cinnamoon.

ok. i'm am soooooooooooo sorry, zuliblu. things have been crazy. i've had this lovely little flag for about a week now, but spare moments have been far and few between lately. so without any further ado,

so pretty. it's a line from 'across the universe', which is one of my favorite beatles songs. zuliblu nailed the colors as well. love the blues.

thank you so much! i can't wait to see it flapping in the breeze!  ;D

Thank you Wulf for posting.  I love all my flags and am going to post a picture of all of them soon.  I work in a middle school and this year we had new administration - so it's been very crazy here.  I may need to bring my flags to work and hang them in my office.

Smmarrt--how did you do your lettering?  It is lovely!

It's just rubber stamps - a typewriter font. There's a tutorial in here by cackle? for stamping on fabric. But it's mostly just taking your time so you don't leave lots of 'edges' on/around your words.

And on another note - the flag above was pinned! By someone in Australia! The first time one of my projects has been pinned.

It's absolutely pin worthy...It's really fabulous.  I hope there is a round 2!!  I so badly wanted to join this one but I didn't have an open spot, so sadly I could only stalk the gallery.  I loved every flag made, this gallery just makes you feel good after looking at it.
