Title: What old hands can make... a pipe ball game!
Post by: lexi_icedrink on May 17, 2012 02:51:22 AM

In a retirement home people love to play games, so I challenged some occupants to help me with making a pipe ball game! I wanted to give them something to be proud of (they made it themselves) and something durable (it's a structure that can be used outdoors). Supplies we needed: drainpipe, stick-on numbers (I used plastic tape), plastic ties, sand paper, spray paint, a saw, a jig and a drill.  An inspiration to make one yourself you can find here: http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/video/0,,20397698,00.html (http://www.thisoldhouse.com/toh/video/0,,20397698,00.html)

First I asked my grandpa to build the jig, in that way we could saw the pipes in a straight and 30 cut. Thanks grandpa!

Then we could cut the pieces...

We drilled the holes and sanded the borders...

Some spray-paint...

And after assembling the pieces...

Ready to try out! :-)

That's pretty awesome.  Its like skeeball or the game where you bounce the ball into the milk bucket.  I be there'll be some kids around that would have a blast with that as well as the folks at the retirement home!  :D

Love the progress action shots. I'd be proud to make this. I want to live in your retirement home when I get older. I hope my hands are never idle.

Great idea!  I think I might make one for my kids!
