Details of swap:
Enjoy movies? Than this is the swap for you! We'll be crafting three tiny movie things for our partners, based on a list they will supply of their 5 favorite/most artistically inspiring films! Easy as pie.

It is required that you watch the 5 films so that you have a thorough understanding of the plot and will be able to craft something for your partner that is truly reminiscent of their favorite flicks.

There's a fairly long crafting time - over a month! I figure people might need that time to find the movies, or, if you're like me and rely on the library to get your movies for free, sometimes there are holds.  If it is impossible for you to rent/borrow the movies on your partner's list, you can request substitute titles (though, if you're like me, it's unlikely the list is actually only 5 movies long, because you couldn't narrow it down).

A tiny thing is anything that fits into the dimension 4" by 4" by 4". It is a small space to work with, but please let your mind wander and feel free to go as crazy as you like!

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap:
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address including the country:
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country?
Confirm that are at least 16 years old or, if not, that you have moderator approval:

Do you have any allergies?

Do you have any allergens in your home (cats, smoke, etc)?

What sort of crafts do you dabble in?

Any specific crafts you'd like to receive?

Are there any themes that you really don’t like?

Colors you’d like to receive?

Colors you’d prefer not to receive?

Please list you 5 Favorite/Artistically Inspiring/Guilty Pleasure Films here:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

Do you have specific ideas or inspirations that would help your partner personalize your piece (Wists, Etsy Favorites, Flickr, etc)?

Anything else you’d like your partner to know?

You guys know you wanna!  It's not only an awesome swap, but an excuse to kick back and watch movies...  "no, really, I would rather be cleaning out the garage and attic, but this is, like, homework.  As much as I, um, really don't want to do it, I must sit here in this comfy chair, munching popcorn, and concentrate on this movie.  Have fun with the cleaning..." ;)

I think I already have my movies picked out although they're kinda main stream  :-\ But I'd love crafts from any one of them ^^

So many swaps that I want to sign up for.  I'm supposed to take a swap break, but last round was so fun.  I think I'll wait until a little closer to the end of sign ups before I make a decision.

I am currently experiencing CRAFTICIPATION.

I just made a tiny Castiel (from Supernatural) just because I wanted to craft something tiny and movie (television show, whatever, Castiel deserves a whole movie IMO).

crafticipation [kraft-iss-oh-pay-shun]: (n) the period of time prior to crafting where a craftier is eager to begin a project, but must wait for various reasons. one might use this time to hoard gather materials and googlefu for ideas.

Unfortunately I'm all swapped out... already signed up for 5 and while 1 will be a very quick turn-around, partners don't get assigned till 11th :( I'll join in the next.

I am so tempted to do this because I love OTT swaps!  I am scared that my choice in films will be torturously boring for my partner though :(  Do you match people randomly?

Title: Re: Three Tiny Movie Things Round 3 (SU 1/29-2/12 SO 3/30)
Post by: Smeddley on February 10, 2012 09:19:55 AM
Well, I first match people based on allergies and whatnot, them I'll probably look and see if anyone has serious objections to a particular type of movie (it's usually horror), and then see if there are people who seem to have slightly similar tastes (like, I would try not to match someone who had all Disney movies up with someone who had... more racy films).

I wouldn't worry about your film choices!  Even if your partner doesn't love the movie itself, it can still be inspiring!  I admitted to my partner last round that I'd seen the movies on her list and really didn't like them, but I still found it easy enough to re-watch them with an eye to finding inspiration.

If you're that nervous, toss out a few movie titles and I'm sure you'll find that someone would like it!  Most of us seem to have pretty eclectic taste in movies...

I love watching new movies---even "boring" ones.  All except horror or gore (I get nightmares.  lol).  I love seeing what people like and looking for new ideas in it.

SO not a prude.  I love it when a movie says "Rated R for language, sexual dialogue, and excessive nudity."  lol

Now, fart jokes and bathroom jokes I don't really like---so, I guess I don't go entirely all out.  lol

Lol.  I'm not against R movies and nudity, I loved "28 Days Later," but I do have a fear of having to watch films like "Eyes Wide Shut," "A Clockwork Orange" or "Exotica!"

I don't think that not liking A Clockwork Orange makes you a prude!  That's unfairly labeling yourself - that movie was just disturbing.  It is, in fact, the poster child for disturbing.  (I haven't seen the other two, so I can't speak for them)

I'm waffling about having "Mega Piranha" as one of my movies - I'm not saying it's a great movie (in fact, it's awful, but so awful it is hilarious), but the craft potential is ENORMOUS.  I mean, GIANT MAN-EATING FISH.  How awesome is that?

Oh, and 28 Days Later was far better than I expected, but Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland are still my top zombie movies.  And Plan 9 From Outer Space, though it's only kind of a zombie movie... I mean, it is zombie, but Vampira looks like a possessed vampire through the whole thing and it's really more about the aliens.

I can definitely see the crafting potential of a movie about a giant piranha!  I think I'm going to use this as an opportunity to get crafts from movies that would never get a swap of their own.  I love HP and Star Wars, but those swaps are going on all the time.  This is definitely the chance for our more obscure/ridiculous favs.

I am having a really hard time narrowing down my movies!  Can we include more than five?

You can include extras, it'll give your partner more wiggle room (I've been guilty of tossing in a few "but how can I leave out...?).  :D

ITA! I almost put wall-e on there, which i adore, but then i would have had two animated "kid" movies. i thought it would be good to give a broader sampling  ;)

Lol.  I'm not against R movies and nudity, I loved "28 Days Later," but I do have a fear of having to watch films like "Eyes Wide Shut," "A Clockwork Orange" or "Exotica!"

everyone should be afraid of watching "eyes wide shut" it might be the worst movie ever. it would have taken more than sex to save that one  :D

28 Days Later was far better than I expected, but Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland are still my top zombie movies.

Shaun of the Dead is my fav in zombie movie! i love simon pegg's stuff

i just sent in my questionaire. it was way to hard to pic just 5, i have more favorites than that!!!!

We currently have an uneven number of swappers, is there anyone who does not want to be in a three-way swap?  As in:

Swapper A sends to Swapper B
Swapper B sends to Swapper C
Swapper C sends to Swapper A

We might have a last minute signup (though I kinda doubt it, and even if we did, we could have two!) but I'm trying to get some ducks in a row now.

(It would be really really nice if we could get another Canadian swapper...)

I read that part on my phone and for some reason, it cut off the word swap and I read it about three times before I realized what was going on.

Holy inadvertently inappropriate! I laughed so hard.

Do you know how many ways I tried to re-word it before I gave up?  Because, yeah, my mind went there as well (probably doesn't help I was just reading a community on LJ that sporks bad 'adult' fiction... my childhood is so ruined).

....do you mean....fanfiction

Because, in the interest of keeping to the topic here (Sense and Sensibility was one of my movie choices) I would totally read some Colonel Brandon and Willoughby.

Partner info sent out!  Check your info, and your partner's info, and if there are any allergy or shipping problems, let me know.  If you really don't think you can stand your partner's movies, maybe ask for alternatives.  Otherwise, let me know and I'll see what I can do to move things around - but remember, even movies you don't particularly like can be great craft inspiration!

That last Castle was awesome - now I'm in withdrawal (I watched the last three all in a row, I was really behind).

Also, everyone, one of our swappers, Ryn, is trying to see if there's interest in a Three Tiny Television Show Things swap, so if you like tiny things and watching TV, and think you might sign up, go put in your two cents!

https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=403616.0 (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=403616.0)

Though, you thought choosing five movies was hard - try narrowing it down to five TV shows!

Thanks for mentioning that Smeddley! I think this three tiny things formula works really well, so if there's any interest to do a TV version let me know at the link Smeddley posted.

I owned two out of five of the movies my partner sent me, so that was good. And hey, I already have one craft half finished, and scored a super awesome...uh...thing...to make the next. No spoilers!

kind of blanking on the third craft though because I haven't found any of the other movies. We have no movie rental places in our town, Rexbox has brutally killed them.

I just finished rewatching the Great Mouse Detective--it's the only movie on my to-do list that I own. But now I'm brimming over with crafty ideas... I should probably try to restrain myself until I watch the other 4 movies on my list. :)

So what kind of movies did people end up picking, anyway? I'm curious. Mine was list of Disney movies. ^^;

Haha, I can't remember at all what I sent.  Except Jaws, and that one was like, a half assed mention in the end of a PM.  I do love sharks though. All them teeth. Nom.

Incidently, I've already watched three of the movies from the lists, and have completed one craft. I ended up liking it so much, I made two more for myself and a friend. I always love crafts that turn out that happily.

ScyFy makes the best horrible movies. You might notice I am a fan by my penname. lol.  They're horrible movies are always horribly awesome, but every once in a while they hit on a truly spectacular movie, like their Alice.

Alice was exceptional! I also really enjoyed Tin Man and I'm SUPER excited to watch Neverland. I missed it when it aired, so I have to wait, but Peter Pan is one of my favourite stories, so Neverland will hopefully be amazing.

Heh, WideEyedLife, it's funny that we both watched our #5 listed movies first! (For those interested, her #5 was Thoroughly Modern Millie (with Julie Andrews) - first time viewing for me, and it was fantastic!).

I started watching Dangerous Beauty over the weekend, but about 15 minutes in, I got called in to work, and never made it back to it *sigh*.

Toothless, how cute!  My kids love that movie!

Apparently there's been a problem with multiple people not having the swap show up on their profile, despite the entries showing up in my feedback submission history (and I have checked a bazillion times to make sure it wasn't a name typo!).  Let me know if it's not showing up on your profile, and PLEASE let me know if it turns around and shows up more than once!

Watched another one of my partners movies. "he loves me, he loves me not" - a very intriguing French film. I liked it, and it's full of great imagery for crafting. That got me thinking about movies that I love the imagery in, like "the cell". It's not the best movie, but it's lush in images, and even as disturbing as it is, it's beautiful to watch.

Yes, billions and billions of tiny things!  The Epic Craft Swap of DOOM!  ;)

Some of my absolute favorite movies wouldn't be great for crafting, I know what you mean about imagery and craft ideas not always equating the the best movies - and some great movies I have NO idea what I could craft based on them!

I don't have any solid ideas yet, but Sunday is going to be my first free day in about 3 weeks, and I am going to get the crafts going!

Haha. I remember the 2nd time I saw that movie, in grade 9 English class, during our Romeo and Juliet unit. Our poor ridiculous teacher fast-forwarded over the sex scene with the movie still playing, and the class was in an uproar over the "bubbies." LMAO.

I just watched Hanna! It was good--and the bows and arrows just got me even more excited for the Hunger Games~! There's a movie I'm excited to see. ;)

I can't believe you're sending already!  I'm only halfway done through my first tiny thing, although I have pretty positive plans for the second, and the third is still up in the air completely.  I'll probably wait to finish the other two movies in case I have another idea.

There was a bit of an incident, and my third craft met an untimely demise.  But that's okay! I picked another movie off her list that I had already watched (because I have no rental store, some of them I just couldn't watch, luckily she gave me lots to choose from), and I actually like the new craft I made waaaaay better. It's not finished. About half way. I'll be shipping on thursday.

Send-outs are this Friday! I hope everyone is doing okay, please let me know asap if you're going to have to send late.  If you're worried about your partner because you haven't heard from them, please let me know.

I should send on time, if my last project finishes smoothly.  It's my fourth attempt at project #3, the first two ideas and projects went like clockwork, but the third was just frustrating. None of the ideas I had worked out...  but this one will! It has to!

What was your favorite movie out of the ones you watched?

Thoroughly Modern Millie is one of those hidden classics! lol--And the hoopla you made is MAGNIFICENT!

One of my favorite lines is, "I never read Tom Sawyer.  Was he ...sexy?"

The ones I watched for this swap were "The Goonies", "Labrynth", "My Fair Lady", "Dazed and Confused", and "Office Space."

I absolutely loved My Fair Lady.  Had totally forgotten how much I loved it.

That said, my hubby and I have been running around for weeks saying, "I ... I lost... my red stapler....and....I...need...it..." and other such idiotic phrases.  Office space is a dorky movie, but absolutely classic and unforgettable!

SO much fun, bobbinalong, thanks for the excuse to watch such excellent movies!  :)
