Details of swap:

5 point swap. Samhain (often pronounced Sow-wen) is the pagan holiday that is celebrated October 31st. Often called the Witch's New Year, it is a celebration of magic and the connection between the world we know and the world beyond. It is considered the best Sabbat for divination. Samhain is also the holiday to celebrate the memories of loved ones who have passed beyond the veil before us. It is the time for celebration of the dark aspects and the Crone.

Symbolism of Samhain:
Third Harvest, the Dark Mysteries, Rebirth through Death.
Symbols of Samhain:
Gourds, Apples, Black Cats, Jack-O-Lanterns, Besoms.
Herbs of Samhain:
Mugwort, Allspice, Broom, Catnip, Deadly Nightshade, Mandrake, Oak leaves, Sage and Straw.
Foods of Samhain:
Turnips, Apples, Gourds, Nuts, Mulled Wines, Beef, Pork, Poultry.
Incense of Samhain:
Heliotrope, Mint, Nutmeg.
Colors of Samhain:
Black, Orange, White, Silver, Gold.
Stones of Samhain:
All Black Stones, preferably jet or obsidian.

Make crafted items that are pagan, wiccan, or witchcraft related or something halloween related or just plain great that your partner can appreciate and enjoy. Suggestions would include altar or spell-casting items such as candles, bowls, oil blends, etc. - as well as altar cloths, statues, jewelry, decorations, stationary, or more - look at previous galleries of similar swaps for ideas if you need them!  Be creative!

Please consider your partner's interests and requests when crafting, and feel free to contact your organizer with questions or worries! If you have any doubts about your partner’s interests, please ask them to clarify to make sure they will be receiving something they can use and enjoy.

This round we will be crafting a Samhain package for our partner that has a 5 point total. You can increase that if both partners are willing to do more (or if you just want to spoil your partner!) AND if you are able to send on time. Please make all effort to send on time!

Point values per size are:
Small-1 point
Medium-2 points
Large-3 points
Please abide by the general guidelines for size/time invested for deciding point makeup.

Communication is vital to a positive swap experience!

Please post at least once a week in the thread so everyone knows that we are all still working steadily towards completion of our project. Feedback will reflect communications with organizers and on the thread so remember this as an important aspect of this swap!
Lack of communication without cause can result in your removal from this swap and/or negative feedback.

If you want to participate, send this questionnaire to hawkeyes_girl. On this and all subsequent communication with organizers, please put WWP Samhain Swap 31 in the subject line:

Brightest of Blessings to all. I know I have been gone for a very long time, but life is back in a steady routine now. I finished college, oldest kid has finished high school, and has since graduated from Parris Island; he is now a Marine. He has three roads he is choosing ti travel and either way the Corps will get him there. I'm so very proud of him and all he has accomplished for his life journey thus far.

Still have 2 more kids to go, one grads this year from high school and then heads to college to become a teacher. My youngest will also be going the same route as her older brother but she has a few years left. ;) I hope everyone is well!

As for me, life has been nutty. College + packing to move + getting lost in Milwaukie + a lot of trips to the post office + being exhausted + trying to be a part time vegeterian.

hiyas, i am Radmom's best friend and while i am not pagan/wiccan technically, i still think this will be a fun swap. i am leaning toward universalist/hindu in beliefs basically no harm to others (unless its your duty) and cosmic cycles of rebirth and death. but can't wait to read up on samhain and make some cool stuff. i mostly paint, draw and make jewelry. but i can do other things. i even started growing my own herbs this year :P. but i ate them all....*chomp* ...except the mint.

I'm curious, though, why you didn't eat the mint?

._. I dont know where the post office is here in Milwaukie (Oregon, not Wisconsin LOL) But there's a mailer place in the promenade, and my grandma is pretty sure I'll be able to track it from there... It might be from UPS though instead of USPS... Is it bad if I mail via UPS? If all else fails I can try to track down the post office and see what bus(es) and or train(s) I have to take to get to it, but yeaaahhhh... It sounds like the UPS place might be easier.
Hehehe.... Sign ups end on my birthday. <3

Okay, I know it's OT, but here's how you make it (and if you're a vegetarian, the "stuffing" works great on top of cannellini beans!):

Take 6 or so pork loin "chops" (I got mine from Whole Paycheck, but they have humane certified meat.  These are about 0.5" slices from the lean part of the loin.)
Take a handful of olives, pit & chop them. Take a double-handful of sun dried tomatoes & chop them.  Mix them all together with 3-4 tablespoons of feta cheese.

I didn't need to flatten them much; I just used my fingers and then placed aspoonful of the stuffing mixture on the chop and folded it over.  I sautéed them in a nonstick skillet with a little olive oil and garlic.  About 5 min a side, I think, and be careful to make sure the inside with the stuffing is cooked.

On the side I made up some quinoa and zucchini ribbons (zukes through a wide grater, sautéed with garlic ((<3 garlic!)) and then fluffed into the cooked quinoa, dressed with a little olive oil and salt & pepper.

Hope no one minds if I start asking questions again? Because I just thought of a very interesting one:

What is your favorite divination art, and why? :D

Tarot hands down.  I love the art used in the cards and how each deck is different and beautiful. I also feel that certain decks/cards call out to whom they belong with making them more alive for me than some of the others.

I sent in my questionnaire! I missed the last couple rounds :(. I love the fall and all that it brings...(except winter lol).

As to answer MamanTattoo's question, I prefer the tarot. I have several decks (including one by Monnie from a personal swap!)! I also used to study palmistry and still keep an eye on my own hands lol. I haven't had much practice with a pendulum. I can't make sense of tea leaves, I have too much trouble quieting my mind to use a scrying mirror or other like things....

I am also a tarot reader, though for yes and no questions or to find lost things I will fall to a pendulum. I am also learning to do rune casting, but I don't feel very proficient in that yet. I own a ridiculous number of Tarot decks. I love my cards.

I am getting super excited for partners. :) Can it be the 25th please?

mandykaye good thing you received the pendulum in the Goddess swap, now you can practice. LOL
I've played with pendulums and tarot, but I seem to always go back to my runes. There's just something about my set that relates to me. I'm not good using them for other, just myself.

Fullmoon, I just got another tattoo myself. I haven't had one since I was a kid. It's on my wrist and represents my Goddess Epona. I love it! You will have to post pictures if yours is in a place where you can show it off.

When it comes to divination, I usually turn to the pendulum.  I'm trying to get better at tarot and the runes .. and ogham is on my list too!  Umm .. I dabble.

I don't know if this counts per se but interpreting/listening to dreams is my best counsel at times. I also have a tarot deck but I haven't yet used it....need to study it a bit more to get the hang of things. I have 2 wonderful pendulums I got in swaps and I do like that a lot too....

On an organizer note: I will be updating the heretoforth unadded entries tomorrow evening so don't panic if you are not on the list tonight. I have to sleep and go to work before I have enough time to really do justice to org duties.

I feel like trying palm reading, anyone tried?

I'm the same.  I love watching tarot, I'm just not disciplined to study it enough.  I meditate.  It's probably not a normal divination technique, but I find what I'm looking for after a little retreat to the garden in my mind.

I hafta show it off XD

This is the 1st session. I have to get a second session done in about two weeks to get it touched up and filled in. It hurt worse than I thought, especially on the side closer to my hip, and I jerked hard, so my friend who was doing the tattoo had to pull it quick, and tried to touch it up a bit, but it was getting late, we were both getting tired, everyone else wanted to drink, I needed to get home, and one of our other friends just wanted all of this to end for the night because I hurt his hand. Poor guy. I grabbed and yanked and clawed and bit his freaking hand like mad when it hurt XD;;; His hand was so covered in bruises and things today, and I hurt him pretty bad when I bit hard and grinded when a spot on my tattoo hurt badly (I cried in the beginning LOL) so when I was on my break during a class, I went to Safeway and bought him a pack of smokes. He was really happy haha. I love it, but it's probably the only one I'll end up getting done.

----

I'm looking into getting a new tarot deck. I still love my deck dearly, but I have a lot of trouble working with it... It's.... Stubborn... My old deck and I worked really well together, but I passed it on to a friend of mine, and the deck prefers her to me. (Ironically, it got passed onto me from an old friend of mine when the deck worked better for me than it did for her) If I don't keep my current deck, I might pass it onto Boyfriend. The cards may get along better with him, but I'm not sure. I might let him play with them next time I see him, and just observe. If not, I'm gonna buy him the Necronomicon deck eventually. We'll see.

Any suggestions on what might be a good deck to try next? I've had the manga tarot, and now I'm on the Mystic tarot I think?

Random lurker sneaks in:
Fullmoon, I want to get my Fiance the Necronomicon deck too,
I would highly recommend any of Ciro Marchetti's decks (there are 3, Guilded Tarot, Legacy Tarot and Tarot of Dreams)
I found it VERY tough to find a deck that worked well for me, and I found these to be very smooth and easy to work with. I find it helps because he shares a story with each tarot deck, and goes very deep into different parts of the symbolism.
(here is his website if you are interested: http://www.ciromarchetti.com/ciromarchetti/Home.html)

Another deck I've found incredibly interesting is the Wizards Tarot. It walks you through many divination techniques and related things but I've had a tough time with using them so far, its taking me a lot more practice to get used to this deck then it took me for other decks, but I feel a real connection to it still, so I'm working with it.

To answer the question about divination...I would have to say I'm kind of with HG about dream analysis, but I do use my tarot deck as well. I really want to learn more about scrying though.

@Fullmoon- Sorry the tattoo hurt that much. It looks like it is a small one on the hip, but if that was your first and on the hip not to bad. Especially, since you apparently abused the poor guy in the process. LOL I have 8 tattoo's all of them mean something important to me. Even my crosses that I own. The cross on my right bicep is a RIP dedication to my step brothers who committed suicide 2 years apart. So that will always remain. The second cross I have is a small by my wrist and is for my son, he picked it out. It represents St. Michael's wings surrounding a heart with Thorns. Even though I practice differently, my Catholic roots still remain. My son is now a Marine, and I take great comfort in the fact I have always seen St. Michael protecting him. I also have a Celtic triskele that Markie also picked out. A Raven on my left forearm with a pentacle, one I want covered on my right shoulder, and the last two are a unicorn on my left thigh(it started it all. LOL) and my son and hubby both share the name Mark, so I had that put in Kanji on my right shoulder, and is currently waiting for a background image.  Okay so much for that tattoo talking. LOL

My dad had these silly tat's that were done when he was a bit "lit" over in Vietnam.  On one arm it read "Rob" short for his last name, which is what all Marines do when they call each other. LOL Anyway, my son just recently graduated from Parris Island, and Pops decided it was about time to get a new tattoo. So he went and finally got himself the Eagle Globe and Anchor. As much as he loves to motto the Marine sign, I honestly think it had to do with his grandson making it. I have to admit though, I actually like getting the tattoos done. I honestly will fall asleep if the tattoo is large enough. LOL

Radmom, Its 1 1/2", so yeah, pretty tiny. I tried to keep it a decent distance from my hip bone to minimize pain but the very middle of the triquetra is apparently on a nerve, so I screwed myself over a little worse cuz the left side is quite painful and the middle is a sharp pain haha. I don't wanna show it to my family cuz I don't wanna explain it, especially since it isn't done yet, but I'm hoping it won't be noticed 'til March when we leave the country, or at least after I've hung out with friends and been out and about more so I can be like "ohyeaaaah, I got that forever ago xP I just haven't felt comfortable advertising it" (which is true I don't really feel comfortable advertising it with my family. I'm nervous to even tell most of my biological family. My aunt, older sister, and younger sister know, but idk about my bio mom or anyone else)

Happy first day of Autumn!

Very cool Fullmoon! I have two tattoos both on my back.  I love them and am always intrigued with other people's tats.  I was the first person in my family to get one, but now they all have them.  My parents are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary this year and they decided to tattoo their wedding bands on earlier this year.

Hubby has to drill this weekend so I am going to try to dig out some of my crafty bits and fall decorations to start getting festive around here :D

No way! :D Photos are a MUST, Saturn!

Mandykaye, I imagine the difficulty of drying coneflowers would be that the heavy centre would take much longer to dry than the thin petals. Maybe microwave drying would work, but I suspect your best bet is silica gel dessicant. It has the added advantage of keeping the petals properly aligned while drying. There's a good article here (http://extension.missouri.edu/p/G6540) comparing different methods.

mandy i would poke a hole in a paper plate and feed the stem through that.  it would keep the petals flat and let lots of air circulate around the center.  when i was a kid we dried queen ann's lace like that.  we put them in the oven (off but it had a pilot light so stayed warm) for a few days.

as for divination, i used to play with tarot but i always felt like i got sarcastic answers so i quit.  i have been doing fire scrying/meditation and i that works some for me but it works best in a big bonfire which i unfortunately cannot do often.  i have a nice sized copper bowl with epsom salts and add alcohol but it makes a blue flame and i miss my red orange and the coals flickering.

and on an intensely personal note,  if anyone has any baby dust send it my way.

FWIW, I use a Celtic Ogham Tarot (and I am the new owner of a set of ogham stones, thanks to a swap!  :)  I am still letting them absorb the energy of my place & life, though), and I have enjoyed it immensely.  However, it has different cards and spreads from the "usual" tarot.

Wulf

I concur with Wulf, here, as I tried to dry some this summer and didn't have good results.  The centers are so heavy as compared to the petals that the moisture lingers too long, which runs the risk of turning your petals brown.

I did have good success with drying climbing roses, lavender, orange butterflyweed, and cherry-red autumn sage (such a good and easy plant to work with, if you have a chance).  I did a dried flower arrangement for a side table in my house, so I can have some flowers in the winter.

Strictly speaking, all the herb drying guides I've read have told me to dry herbs in the dark, but I have my lovely herb rack from Ladyblades hanging in my kitchen, which has windows.  So, I've just left the lights off, and have had no problems.  But that's for my culinary herbs.  For the flowers, I used the closet, because I wanted to preserve the colors.

Fullmoon- Your tattoo is super cool. Don't let one tattoo make your decisions for you. :) I have eleven now and will have many more. It depends on placement and needles used as well as personal pain tolerance. It looks almost as though he used a single needle liner, but I could be wrong as it is new. If he did, ask him to use a triple needle if possible with touch up and if you are having shading or color you should go with a five needle shader. This cuts down on concentrated pain and makes the spots where you wiggle easier to fix. I am not a tattoo artist by any means, but spent most of my adolescence in shops and apprenticed for several years. tattoos are a glorious thing if they carry a meaning as well as art. :) congratulations on your first ink!!!

I used to do tattoos more often a few years ago. Never worked in a shop but I had a bustling trade on the side for a while. I was studying ritual tattoo and then life overwhelmed me. I'm thinking of getting back into it, just private practice again. I even did my pagan teacher's armband of his 1st degree cord, which makes me rather proud.

Anyhoozle, just popped by to brag that I got to meet Wulf today at my sadly small art show. He was so sweet.  :D All you's out there wanting to join the Wulf Art Crush Fan Club should be properly jealous. I plan to make membership cards sometime soon. lol

Wulf, Chelsey (Phrixy on here) was giggling that she almost didn't recognize you without the armour.

hey ya'll! while waiting to be assigned a partner i made a Samhain pinterest of the themes i listed so that people can understand where i am coming from. i am not a wiccan or a pagan. i dunno if that is odd to a swap like this, probably not, but i am someone who really digs the harvest/halloween season. i am someone who lives beneath god's thumb and has been led to a religion outside of the norm for someone living in the suburban midwest. anyways i can't wait to swap with ya'll, make some pretty things and learn about the rituals and traditions of Samhain. Here's a link to my pinterest to help get ya'll in the swapping mood:

To late celebrate for Mabon and just to share: behold my wonderful garden in the beginnings of the end of the harvest season!

Where the dried sage I swap grows:

My latest harvest: tomatoes, beets, black beans and dill seed heads

It was rainy the day I took these shots. But I just wanted to share-that's the only thing I regret going into the colder seasons of the year! I got lots of produce this year-28 ears of corn, tons of dill seeds, lots of broccoli and green beans and about a pound of dried black beans on top of the tomatoes and tons of pears that turned into pear butter.

Happy belated Mabon and welcome Samhain.

Yay Selkie! You'll soon be addicted.

Hope no one minds if I start asking questions again? Because I just thought of a very interesting one:

What is your favorite divination art, and why? :D

Oracle Cards, because hte art is pretty and the earth elements make me feel one with Mother Nature

I enjoyed turning 18 because it meant my boyfriend could be around with no issues and I could be in the state of Oregon with him without risking anything cuz the age of majority is 16 in Washigton and at 16 you can legally date 3yrs up from you, but in Oregon it's 18, and we're both Oregonians (although I was living in Washington at the time) for the record, when I was 17, he was 20. Were still together haha. Hooray it's after midnight which means legally it's no longer my stupid birthday! I win!

I want partners nowwwwww lol

Pm's were sent; partners listed on page 1.

Please let me know if I missed anyone or anything!

Also note I divided us into "teams" for organizing. Those with me report to me at least every 2 weeks on how things are progressing; problems, etc.

Those who have Monnie as team captain report to her likewise.

Thanks! Have fun!

Thanks!
I hope to eventually do my kitchen up like an old apothecary and my living room with witch hats and boots!

That sounds like it would be so much fun! I collect old glass bottles of all shapes, sizes, and colors, so I would love to see pictures of what you were thinking of!

Thanks for the pinterest mintdawn, defiantly makes the stalking easier! And I already have two fabulous ideas!!!

Just FWIW, I didn't get a PM saying that my questionnaire had been received or a PM about partners, but I've been lurking on the board, so I was able to see it!  I just wanted you to know in case there were some folks not lurking and/or a technical issue!

Yay, Partners!

ok guys, I apologize in advance, but i am gonna have a quick vent. I am in need of some positive something in my direction. My  week in a nutshell: last Tuesday - air went out, 98 degrees in the house, Thursday late - air fixed yay, Friday - low beam  on truck went out no big deal, weekend - good, Monday - rainstorm which isnt a big deal unless the AC guy doesn't seal something and you now have a waterfall through the ceiling in your living room, today - DD takes truck in town barely gets back on the island and the f-ing fuel pump goes kaput. had to have friends tow it home and then we had to push it up into the driveway. its a ford expidition so it is not light. fuel pump is $97. All in all, it could be worse. was planning on going bday shopping for our youngest tomorrow, but we will be parts shopping instead. GGGRRRRRRR.

Will someone please explain to me what 5 points means? So if I want to craft a couple things and add a couple small things that aren't crafted, how would I add that up in points? Do non-crafted things count in the points system? EDIT: Nevermind, I found the answer on another swap thread. :) It'd be helpful if I'd actually LOOK for the answer before asking.  ::)

Well, now that I'm not so sick (I was up all night hugging the toilet from one end or another, and inbetween all that, bad menstrual cramps) after I shower I'm gonna make a small or two and get a bit of research and stalking going while I do my homework for tomorrow's drawing class and computer class

sugarsandwitch~sending good vibes your way

Fullmoon Eww :( i hate that particular combination.  We are just getting over a round of colds here myself!

Spidersweb glad to know I'm not the only one who is plotting some baking this round! ;)

And lastly I was digging around the garage full of boxes for my wicca books and I finally found one (out of 4 :( )  I opened it up and the the very top book smiling at me was my book of Indian Astrology!!!! Man, HG you have truely got some clairvoyance skills when it comes to picking partners! So now I have at least 4 projects I am gathering supplies for.  Luck is  defiantly on my side this round while choosing boxes to open for my supplies, I have found the exact yarn I was looking for, that book (which i totally forgot i had...), and my _____ which will come in handy for the _____ I am making.  Now to hunt up those other 3 book boxes so I can find my recipes! So excited to be crafting for you Mintdawn!

Oooh, sounds fun! I was going to but some blue streaks in my now lighter bonde hair but I didn't want to buy a whole box of coloring to waste on a few small streaks lol....Tesla would be awesome!

On a craft note, I have some ideas coming together and hopefully get started on them tomorrow!

On another side note, my husband and I will have been married for 5 years tomorrow!!! Seems so short a time and yet like a lifetime! (That's a good thing btw!)

Happy anniversary! Also, you can always get a jar of Manic Panic or a bottle of N Rage / Raw Color (depending on where you go) , put blue streaks in your hair, and then save the rest of the jar/bottle for future touch ups.

So much win, bad luck finally broke slightly. I haven't won the war, but I've at least won the battle, and Boyfriend apologized for being a prick and admitted that if anyone needs to be the one to prove themselves it's him, not me, because he does owe me because he still owes his end of the deal and he's put it off for a year, and that end of the deal is seriously the cause of 90-95% of our fights, drama, angst, stress, etc. >_> Both he and my mother are hopefully staying over tomorrow. This may be a bit weird haha...

Already got a couple little things done for Wulf. Well one took longer than its size would imply since I call it a little thing. But they both wanted to be made for him and so who am I to question? I'm sure I'll be berated for calling a certain someone a 'little thing' in any context. lol All shall be revealed...

Omigosh, it is just too much fun to craft with Phrixy on different projects. I'm truly blessed to have such inspiration at my side!

Question: What is your favorite symbol?

mine is the triple moon goddess. It feels so magic to me! I don't know why, I've always been drawn to it.

My favorite symbol is the pentacle. I have loved it since I was just reading about Wicca when I was a teen and I love it just as much as a Witchy adult. On a daily basis I wear 4 pentacles...most very understated, but I know they are there.

I am stalking and plotting. I already have some solid plans, so crafting is not far behind. :)

I also like the pentacle and the tree of life. Both of which are part of me now (tattoos). I don't go about wearing a big pentagram or anything because it still attracts negative images from people around here in this ultra conservative area. I don't really care about what they think of me I just don't want the negative vibes hanging around so I tend to keep things low-key. I certainly don't go out of my way to hide who I am, I just don't broadcast it either. I do notice when I occasionally see someone wearing an understated necklace or something that only another pagan would recognize. Its kind of like a secret society around here lol. Although, I would love to just walk around in a black cape and big pointy hat with pointy shoes sometimes!! This time of year no one would find me too out of place lol!~ ;)

I have some supplies and I scored some cool autumn fabric in the remnants!!!! Just trying to figure out exactly what I am going to make with it all........

I'm working on an idea or 2....

it's taking longer than I hoped on one item due to life getting in the way. But all is well!

Hmm...I love the triquetra and tree of life too. I have similar reasons for not wearing a pentacle, but I am more tied to the triquetra.

I wear my pentacle loud and proud :3 When I don't wear it, I usually wear a chainmaille necklace with a triquetra on it. Im an open person though, and if people try to give me hell over my pentacle, I generally stand my ground.

Stalking...... Check
Brainstorm... Check
Supplies...... almost check
Will brobably start crafting tonight. I am one ingredient short of ___ to make a _____. hehe

I am tied on my favorite symbol. I love the Pentacle, 2 tatoos, but I also love the triskele or anything spiraled. To me the spiral not only represents life, but it is also infinite and mysterious.

Mine is the 7 circuit labyrinth. (Charte makes me hyperactive and spastic.) The car in my avatar has a labyrinth on the hood! Spirals are also important. I have a spider ring and a snake bracelet. I guess I'm kinda all over the place. Stalking and thinking...

A symbol I feel affinity for is the cross within a circle, usually seen as a "Celtic cross", but also the astronomical symbol for Earth. I think my connection with it dates back to a novel I read as a child, one of those books about plucky British children caught up in a battle between ancient forces of Light and Darkness. In the story, the circled cross represents the agents of Good, and one of the characters accidentally has it branded on his hand. I wish I could remember what the book was; I'd like to re-read it. (Like a lot of those sort of magical books I read when I was young.)

Drawing a cross within a circle divides it into four quarters, which could be the four elements, the four seasons, or the quarter-points of the year. It can also represent a cross-road or the four points of the compass. The circled cross, which is undoubtedly very ancient, has been absorbed into Christianity in several forms, including the Catholic host and hot cross buns baked at Easter.

Really the only symbol I ever wear, though, is a hammer of Thor, and that not very often. Just not a jewelry guy, I guess.

Wulf - The Dark is Rising Series perhaps - Susan Cooper I believe? Shades of Merlin and a boy wakes on his 13th birthday to collect circles with crosses...

Selkie, I think you're probably right. I only have a couple of the Dark is Rising books now, but I should get the rest and re-read them. For those who don't know Susan Cooper's work, she wrote a series of young adult novels in the 1970s (1960s?) on a theme that was as common in that period as apprentice witches and wizards is today, namely seemingly ordinary children and young teens getting caught up in ancient mythological battles that somehow break through into the modern world. Cooper's five (?) The Dark is Rising novels are still in print and well worth reading. Another author in the same vein is Alan Garner. His book The Owl Service is an absolute favourite of mine, and still gives me shivers in exactly the same way it did when I was fourteen!

Another favourite symbol of mine is the Vesica Piscis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesica_piscis) that decorates the cover of the Chalice Well (http://www.chalicewell.org.uk/) at Glastonbury, England. I bought a silver ring with that design on it when I visited there many years ago, and I sometimes wear it for rituals, sabbats and such.

And to keep it from seeming too weird and specialized, I should add that I'm very fond of the pentacle as a symbol, too.

Finally got a whole day at home today, so I've made a trip to the storage locker to gather some supplies and I'm starting to work.

Wulf

Its amazing how much one can accomplish when two outta three kids are in school all day! I am 75% finished with one item and Have cut out all the bits for another!  Would have probably finished both projects today if I wasn't missing pieces for both.   Need to wait for hubby to get home to help me tackle the wall of boxes in the garage that are stacked higher than I can reach.

I have about a half hour before the girls get off the bus so back to it.  Hope everyone else is having a beautiful Autumn day, the weather is perfect here today :) Blessings

Susan Cooper won one of the literary book awards for one of the series. She has some other books that are amazing as well.
I have teenagers so I have a good excuse to spend time in the young adult section at the bookstore!

Okay convencrafters! I need your help!!! I recently had a tattoo put on that was done partially because I needed to cover an old tattoo that doesn't represent me at all anymore. HOWEVER! The new tattoo has a very lifelong story to it, and it is one of the main reasons I changed my name legally. During a meditation a few years back, I kept visioning a Raven, and it always brought me to beautiful areas.
In my very long ago days of of BBS boards, I used to go by Draven, no NOT because of the CROW movie. It happened because someone had "somehow," taken that identity more like the Sysop changed it for a would be chic he liked. LOL Anyway, I made a new one called it Draven, which stood for dark raven, redundant at best I know. I found it very funny, that my spirit guide would later become a Raven.

Anyway, all through my teens and early to middle 20s I had dabbled with the occult and learning what I could. I temporarily lost some sanity and went back to Catholicism for a while, probably due to some deep seeded guilt by my 'rent. that I should raise the kids in "The Faith."

That same 'Rent now understands that we both have a path and each must follow it. He even accepted and adores the new name. Albeit, he still mainly calls me MONSTER. LOL
Here is my tattoo
I need a background for it. I love colors way to much and just the silhouette is driving my bonkers. Dad is going for his second large tattoo on Wednesday and said, pick a design and come with me, will get it done at same time.
I know I want it to represent me.. ThE WITCH that I am. LOL I want Gemstone colors, or as dad calls it Halloweeny colors:P Gotta love the 'rent/s.
I would like some suggestions, fire away and any images you might think of two. I was wondering if a BOS/Broom/Dripping Candle would be to much or able to be done just right? Just so you know in advance, my artist is AMAZING. He is also a very reputable portrait artist too, so talent is definitely there.

Thanks everyone.

i see a red/orange yellow sunset and a moon behind the raven.  because of the thick feeling of the raven i would hesitate to do any fine work and i feel that because the pent is already there the broom and spellbook would push it a bit in to the too much category.  but YMMV.

Lovely Tattoo!...You've hit my departement! too bad the appointement is tomorrow, I don't have time today to actually draw something :(

I personnaly would see rainbow colors! red from your wrists to purple, swirls and stars made in the negative, something very simple since the main thing is so bold.

On a crafty note, someone place the box I put my first item in, and I don't know where it is!

It makes me happy that others have desks just as stained up as mine.  I am going to be repainting my craft desk since now its going to be in view of the whole house instead of tucked away.  I will have to take a before shot to post so you can how loved it is.  I finished one item earlier today while watching tv :) Hubby came home for lunch and we tried to find my _______ in the boxes in the garage but no such luck.  The movers labeled the boxes with things such as halloween decorations but there was childrens toys in them  ??? >:( but hubby said we would continue digging around when he got home this evening.  My goal for this round was to beat Monnie sending  :D but if I have to open every single box in the garage to find my things I think she will beat me.

Thanks again! I just am so in love with it! I mean really a lifetime, thus far anyway, of wanting at least one of these tattoo's on my body to represent ME. I have one for the passing of both of my step brothers. So that was designed with THEM in mine. Another is just plain Kanji in electric blue has that is Both my husband Mark and my son Mark(ie)'s name and favorite color.  My St. Michael Winged Cross and Heart is also for my son, and my son picked the Celtic trinity symbol because I have three kids. A unicorn on my thigh was what started it all and that was my best friends at the time desire so we both got one with reversed colors. Meaning my mane and flowers are same color just oppositely done. :P Then there is a dreaded MISTAKE no complete F' up on my right shoulder that I should have never gotten done in the first place. I'm sure I am not done in life either. LOLOL

Just checking in!  I feel overwhelmed by the rest of y'all.  I bought supplies, but I havent started yet.  I probably shouldn't have spent my last Saturday watching the baseball game, because this week was a bit intense!  (Work was good but hectic and I made a financial snafu and nearly had a flat tire.)  :'( I had to sleep with my goddess pendant on last night to get my tension down a notch.

I'm house/dog sitting this weekend, but I will be home Sunday, and I already know 3 of the things I'm making!

Here's wishing everyone a happy, healthy, stress free weekend!  :)

I'm officially done, yet I have one special thing I want to haverst on the full moon.
well I just did, so I'm done! now I need to wrap the box, because I don't want anybody to know it was an old fondu kit's... oups! ahah!

I've just re-post something on the Craftster Coven blog from my blog :
http://craftstercoven.blogspot.com/2011/10/were-doing-it-this-year-too-last-year-i.html

I think it would be fun trying to make it work. I had a new born last year that kept me from putting time into it, but now I'm ready to try :)

Maman Tattoo, I adore your blog.  The pictures and potions are wonderful!

On the crafting front, I'm done with another small, and am on my third try of a medium-large.  I took a break from swap crafting to do some personal crafting.  Me & ms. mandymo13 were shopping at Le Target the other day and I really liked this guy:

It was like $15,or $20.  Not outragoeus, but gee, I'm crafty.  So I found an iron candle holder at Goodwill for $2.99 and made this:

Sorry about the exposure, camera phone pics always suck. Anywho, I hot glued some yarn to make the straight lines of the web and used the hot glue to make the in between ones.  I painted the web gold and added some gold glitter.  I really like how it turned out.

Anyone have any idea on how I can make those antique looking orange votive holders?

Love the ink addition Radmom! It defiantly looks like that is what you had intended all along

Great blog post Maman, I would never have thought of using a fondu pot! Now I will have to check the thrift stores when I go to hunt for treasures  :)

Lilak, as far as for the votitves, I can't tell exactly how they look, but I think you can achieve the desired affect with alcohol inks on the outside of the votive holders.  I know Ranger makes them in a ton of colors and they layer well so you should get the perfect tint.  I adore what you did with some hot glue and glitter to that candle holder!

On a crafty note, my parents were visiting for a long weekend so I really didn't get much crafting done.  I still only have two items finished but plan on baking tomorrow while my older girls are in school.

SO - I've been on a crafting binge/bender for almost a week now. Just try to drag me away from hulu and my craft spot... I even emptied and reorganized my craft cabinets while looking for stuff.
Things were going well until the glitter spilled everywhere this morning. That was not what I wanted in any way shape or form.
Now - instead of a bit of orange glitter for accent, it's on just about every square inch of my projects.
Yeah and it's not the big stuff that's easy to clean up - it's the ultra-fine body glitter.
Spaz - I hope you're okay with the glitter thing.
Drowning in glitter (and I don't even wear it to the Faerie Festival...

A blessing to Wulf's mom and to Radmom!

I'm surrounded by supplies, but I started painting things this afternoon.  Everything is planned out at this point!

It's been a time of very strange energy lately, hasn't it?  My colleague slipped on a gum ball and strained her back badly enough that she had to go on a course of prednisone, and I have yet to be paid for some contract work I did for my employer for the fourth pay period in a row.

On the upside, I'm starting my fall break weekend tonight, so I get an extra day and a half to be re-centering everything.  After I get some sleep in me, I'm really looking forward to it!

Glad to hear your surgery went well Radmom :) I think your body's reaction is just a reminder to let it heal.  I know I have always tending to over do it after a surgery because there is always so much going on in life.  Rest up and I hope your recovery continues to be an easy one.

Wulf my thoughts are with you and your family

I have reached the point where I just need to finish a little something on a few things and then box it all up.  The plan is to go to the PO on Monday, I want to make sure to send early because I have no idea how long it takes for something to get to where its going from the on base postal office.

I cant say I ever was the receiver of one of them but I know some of our friends that were.

I love a new game I found from a friend for Ostara time! I have to share it. Basically you take eggs and carefully put two wholes in them. One on each end and blow out the eggs, make breakfast! Yum! Then dye the eggs, of course using your own methods. After all that get some colored tissue paper and glue one side to seal now here comes the fun part. Fill randomly the eggs with cheap fruity people's, and other soft creature friendly foods, because we don't want our furry friends and faeries to get sick, now. One egg must be filled with glitter. Only one. Naturally now sealing those other ends as well. The host or mother of the party has to hide all the eggs. Then coven/group/or kids goes out to hunt for eggs once all eggs are found by final count...let them loose on each other slamming each other with the eggs....you see how fun ensues here. The winner is the one  with egg glitter ON HER/HIS HEAD. Host chooses different prize for whatever game celebration. I can't wait because we are doing that for Ostara. Okay now back to Samhain lol

Makes me think.. Anyone has this sort of game for Samhain?
Yesterday I went to a ...well... Searching english term here.... A corn party maybe??
We put all the corn is one pile and started unravelling them, and one of them was previously marked red.
The one finding it was declared the King\Queen of corn.

I am drawn to fire. I guess because of the power and all the colors. We have property and we have fires quite a bit. Watching the fire helps me relax and clears my head.

I would have to say even though I am born a water sign, I am more drawn to the Earth elemental, with a mix of fire elements. When my thoughts are deep and need some serious attention, I go to my 'dungeon', where it is very dark and cave like and light my candles and contemplation commences. I will also listen to very soft meditation music.

I also have a tendency to have little gnomes that follow me to mess around.

Earth and water. I love gardening and rain the most and find that they calm me the most.

I'm an Aquarius - air sign - and I definitely have that 'my feet occasionally visit the planet' feel. Then again, I've been a swimmer, synchronized swimmer, lifeguard, water fitness instructor, lifeguard instructor for large chunks of my life. I did a polar bear swim two years ago and I'm planning on a polar bear swim in Scotland in March for my 40th birthday trip. So yeah - I think I'm quite drawn to water - that and my favorite critters are seals.

On a crafty note - I ended up with two larges and no ideas for a small, and then I had an idea pop into my head - thank goddess.

Thinking of those who need healing.

i am very drawn to fire now.  i used to be drawn to water but lately i almost have an aversion to it.  it is still the quickest and easiest way for me to ground tough.  water running over my feet or wrists immediately pulls off the extra energy.  one time i was at a friends's house for her house warming/cleansing and i had a bad reaction (hyperventilating and panicking) when smudged and i went and put my feet in her pool and felt better and completely normal within 2 min.  i have avoided sage since then so i am not sure if it was a one time thing.

I am a water baby, but I have strong pulls to almost all of the elements. I feel very balanced recently, which I can only feel is a good thing. But mu pisces soul will always crave the water to some degree.

On a crafting note I am working away. This weekend has been a bit crazy, so I didn't get a lot done, but I know I will be sending on time. :)

I'm Aquarius with Leo rising, and coincidentally or not, my head is usually in the clouds but I have a great affinity for fire. I never considered fire until I did an elemental exercise and suddenly BAM! Fire latched on and just hasn't let me go since.

Then treat it as a medium!  A) I don't feel particular, B) it should be time/effort, not size that determines it, and C) I can't be sure, but my kitten might have licked one of your items while it was drying.  (Don't worry-- after it cures completely, I'm hitting it with some spray varnish.).   :P

I am an earth child! I have so much earth in my astrology chart its hard not to be pulled to earth lol! My hands are even "earth" shaped according to the palmistry books I've read!  Sometimes its hard to come up with inspiration for crafts without looking at other projects lol.

On a swap note, I am nearly done! Having lack of inspiration for this last project but I think I finally have it! I just have to finish this one last piece and find some little goodies from my stash to add to it and I'm done!

This made me laugh x) I needed to laugh. It's been a bad day. I'm still having problems with a college class and my teacher emailed me back about my grade and he seriously talks like the textbook for the class. Neither of them I understand LOL. But I'm considering dropping it and taking some other classes in it's place. x)

Craft wise, I'm gonna try and get finished up with this swap tonight or tomorrow and then mail out either Tuesday or Wednesday while I'm at school.

Weird question... Has anyone ever mistaken your alter for something weird?  Mine is still a work in progress, I've never had a real area that I could have an actual alter before, and so I picked a spot in my room, but it's still a bit bare at the moment. I was having a bit of trouble trying to figure out where I should put some stuff cuz I'm still organizing and reorganizing, and my grandma was like "Why don't you put stuff under the bookshelf? All you've got is a couple odd things and a scarf there" I was like "What?" and when we were going to the basement, she walked over to my alter and was like "Yeah, this is what I was talking about, you've barely got anything here, just some scarf (It's not a scarf!!!!) and some random stuff, you should just clean it off and use this for more storage." Total facepalm moment.

I'm glad it perked you up.  This is why I haven't been checking for pet interference in the craft room:
. The boys came from fifth place to go to the Series!  ;D

It's craft-related, too.  It was part of the baseball swap that we did last summer.  Tricky McVomit was my partner (I made her a baseball tote).

Please send me some luck or something ^^;; I'm having to drop my art and design in contemporary society class to avoid failing it (long story) and so to make up the credits for it, I'm gonna need to take some other classes in it's place. My bio mom and I agreed I should take psycology, anthropology, and philosophy (To which my grandma said "Don't take advice from her!" and my mother said when I mentioned talking to my bio mom "Oh God..." and then when I explained our weird theory that might be legit, my mom was iffy on it too and then I was like "But she has the same mind set and thought process as me" "I know... That's scary >_>;;" "And we were talking about common sense... Now I know where I get my lack of common sense from! She lacks it too :D" "-_-;;; I noticed with the both of you..." LOL... It turns out I'm actually insanely like my biological mother and it's kinda scary lol) but it's still a little up in the air. I'm up to needing 7 or 8 community college classes in order to keep up with the rest of my year.

Also, I'm so excited. Last night, Boyfriend sent me a picture of himself in a ninja costume and told me he asked for Halloween off from work so we could be together. I'm really happy :) I haven't seen him since the day I got the Mabon swap package from monnie31, and that was purely coincidental because he had to be in the same area as me because of a family emergency.

I'm gonna pack everything up tonight to send out, and tomorrow either on my lunch break, or after school on my way to Union Station, I'll go to the post office and mail out :D

Crud! So Spidersweb, I'm gonna have to send you that gum separately cuz it turns out I left it in my room somewhere instead of in the envelope. Meanwhile, I made sure everything was put in all nice and wrote on the padded envelope to not bend, but it got hit into something or someone at some point in one of my bags and now I potentially bent it :'/

If the things inside are beat up or bent, I'd be fine with remaking and resending them if you want me to. I feel so stupid :'/

and I'm having a bad day cuz Murphy's law is hitting hard.

I have a stack of DC# stickers at home. At the machine I chose that option and it charges me for it. I stick on the DC#, drop the package in the dropbox and they will scan it when they process those packages  :) I was worried about it the first time it did it, but it works just fine  ;)

A quick question for the Canadians... When using a recipe are you guys going by metric measurements?

here in québec we often use both, depending on where the recipe comes from!

I'm a bad one to ask about recipes because I don't bake, so pretty much everything else is either from a package, in which case the measurements are the standard Canadian version, or else I'm winging it and using a recipe as a 'suggested method.'

Another quick question for the Canadians... Why does going into Quebec feel like entering a completely different country from the rest of Canada? Same for Scottish Canada! (Halifax? I don't remember... I haven't been to Canada in probably 3 or 4 years)

Other than the bilingual signs in Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, not much is that different in Canada, were farther East so wer are much slower paced that Toronto or Montreal, but not that different

<<<not Canadian, but an avid baker.   The recipe I used for my Samhain goodies was a European recipe so I had to use a converter to help.  Even then I couldn't use those exact measurements since the decimals didn't convert into an equal fraction.  I still think they are yummy, but like Icekibby said, you kinda just have to use them as a guideline.

Is your husband also WWP? My son is having a hard time keeping his inside. He found one Wiccan male, but he is a reservist and will be coming home from MOS school soon, and my son is active four years. He actually had another guy tell him to his face that the devil is wicca and all that mumbo jumbo. He said it took everything I  had to not punch him because  he felt it an attack on himself but more on me. I told him to just keep calm and for his own sake keep it private if it comes up. I didn't even know he was interested in being a Wiccan until this past weekend when he skyped me and said I've finally crossed over mom. Lol and flashed a lovely pentacle then panned his laptop over to his buddy, and he busted with MM and BB while flashing his! LOL

On a different note - my DH is 18 1/2 years US Coast Guard! One of the grooms in tomorrow's service is retired Navy Chief and my DH is wearing his uniform to the 'wedding'. AND it was his idea!!! I'm so proud of him.

I sent Friday am (I packed it up flat rate thursday night and put it out for pickup Friday, which they did)!

I'm a bit envious of folks who either are working in an environment that is supportive or who are in one that's protected for that.  I teach high school, and it's not a place where it should ever come up, but of course people talk about church and synagogue and so forth.  I feel snobby when people ask where I go to church and I say, "I think that's private business."

LOL

My hubby isn't really anything, he is however very supportive of me and he was the first person I ever told outside of my coven 10 years ago.  It still surprises me how people can still be closed minded about things.

This project was more complicated than I expected. I'm crafting like a madwoman, going to drop the package tonight, luckily I have a post office that has a self-serve counter.

Since the gallery is open, I will not be updating the status on this thread anymore of who sent. I am however forwarding my "team" info to Monnie who opened our gallery.

I sometiimes wish I had a more open workplace but I am just known as the New Age/Earth mama/hippie girl at the office. And ya know what? I'm ok with that for now. Because I think my beliefs are seen and acknowledged despite not knowing my religious views. (aka, healer, earth lover, etc vs. the Wiccan).

I have to keep remembering: speak ye little, listen much.

Hi, I'm just checking in. I'm having a bit of and emotional and physical breakdown regarding school right now and although I'm done with everything but one item, that item is becoming a pain because i don't have all the tools so i am going to try to go to Michael's either later tonight or tomorrow.

Who is planning Yule?   When should we open the swap?  Sign ups?  What kind of theme?  Stocking again? Something else?

How many would be "enough" but not too many?   We could co-cordinate?  Have you ever organized a swap before?

yeah i am all for doing more since there is a long crafting time.  but maybe require 3 smalls and a medium for sure, and then up to partners for spoilage? beware, whoever has me will be spoiled :) Me and my girls do tons of crafting this time of year.

This sounds great. If it's going to be three smalls, how about three specific themes, such as Food, Celebration, and the Wheel of the Year?

I will co-org if need be.

What about a small swap due to holiday craziness? I am really liking point swaps since they allow more flexibility....like a 3 point swap?

What about a Yule warmth theme?

Just ideas.... please keep it going!

I'd be up for a small one like this. I have one question, I might have missed if t
Stated. What would the send out date be? I'm having surgery on Nov 30th.

Oooh, Yule Warmth! I like that idea! And I have to admit I'm more inclined to a smaller swap too, not because I do a huge amount of Christmas crafting, but because I seem to have a zillion other projects already piled up for the winter.

Send-outs somewhere around December 12, perhaps?

Oh the Yule swap sounds great, but we're moving both home and office between now and the end of the year and I'm on a swap diet until late December.  I'll keep and eye out for Imbloc!

I too, like the idea of a smaller swap around the holidays! I liked the stocking idea from last year but I am up for anything! I think the US post office has stated Dec. 15th for holiday packages to arrive on time. So if sending internationally we may need to send sooner? Idk...just a thought.

Good point about USPS Christmas shipping dates, Mandykaye. Since we need packages to arrive four days earlier than they're calculating for, really December 10 should be the latest send-out date, shouldn't it?
