Title: Orange and Teal Zig Zag
Post by: danni42683 on January 26, 2011 11:41:25 PM
I made this for my soon to be born nephew. He is the first child to either of my siblings and I can not wait to spoil him as much as my sister spoils my kids. I have been sewing for him non-stop for a couple weeks now. This is the quilt that I made for him.....
Its not really that wonky I am just not a good photographer.
The backing I fell in love with it is the ultra cuddle fabric from Joann's.

Thanks for looking.

It looks amazing! Was it very hard? The pattern looks complicated.

No actually I used the HST method and it wasn't hard at all. Chain piecing is my best friend so it went together pretty quick from start to finish took about 10 or 12 hours, I started on a Sunday and washed it for the second time Tuesday. There are other methods to making one that are even easier than using HST.

Thanks for the comments.

I LOVE this pattern and I am going to make a couple more of them. I say this is a baby quilt but acutally its more the size of a youth quilt/adult lap quilt size. Its about 48x60 but I wanted something that was going to last him a while instead of just being big enough to cover him while he really shouldn't have a blanket anyways (while in a crib).

There are several ways of making this quilt.

This is the strip pieced method http://beesquarefabrics.blogspot.com/2009/03/how-to-make-zig-zag-quilt-without.html
This is the HST method http://aquiltisnice.blogspot.com/2008/09/zig-zag-quilt-kit-tutorial.html
however if you wanted to you could cut and sew strips to make your HST like this http://myquilter.blogspot.com/2010/03/speedy-12-square-triangles-trick.html instead of cutting squares and then sewing two seams then cutting them apart.
