Haha, yes, I had to stop listing my favorite characters because there were like 10...but think of it this way, it gives your partner more options to choose from  ;)

I'm doing it for my kids and was given one character as a favourite by both of them. They do like a lot of the other characters too, so whoever gets me I can give you more characters that they like, don't worry about being stuck with one.

I think this is one of the beauties of the game itself: there are just so many great characters, both recurring and new!

Dizzer doesn't usually respond to it, she'll just post your name in the first post of the thread.  If you don't see your name there by the end of today, send Dizzer a PM to ask if she received it, if she didn't you can just resend it, no problem! :)

I'm so excited.  I WANT MY PARTNER!

Hopefully someone who's into Majora's mask ;D  <- ideas are already spinning through my head.  I didn't list that game as my favorite 'cause I couldn't finish it D:  But I loooove it and I want to craft for someone who loves it too!

Trying to decide whether to sign up or not... I've been excited for another Zelda swap, but we close on a house on the 28th (a friday) and will spend that weekend moving. If I could get everything done quickly and send early I'd be okay, but how often does that happen??

I have to make sure I let my partner know that the favourite character for my daughter is wrong. I asked my son and he told me Navi, that's his, but she likes Princess Ruto and Saria.

Oooooh who doesn't love Ruto?!  I had to exclude Saria from my favorites, though I loooove her!  It's adorable that your son loves Navi.  My little one isn't old enough to understand her love for Legend of Zelda yet.

Just a note to everyone: since signups end tomorrrow, I'm guessing we'll get our partners on saturday or sunday.
If I don't respond right away, don't worry or think I'm a jerk! I'm going to be in chicago for new years hanging with old college buddies this weekend, so I may not get to any computers before sunday night.

man, I'm so excited. I've already got ideas, ideas, ideas! Want to start knitting, but... must... wait...!

Man, okay so... I finally decided to knit something for myself... and if my partner tells me they're a huge Wind Waker fan and would LOVE the crawfish sweater I'm making, I would totally give it because it would make an awesome large, but...

Sigh. I think I'm finally starting to realize that crafters can never craft anything for themselves.  :D

Also, I very conveniently happened to have 2 whole skeins of yarn in my stash in my partner's favorite color. How awesome is that. :D

I have a few brainstorms for the medium and large done, just a matter of seeing if I can finagle something to do the large  ;)

This (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=328097.msg4259246;topicseen#msg4259246) is awesome!

WOW! That's a lot of squares to make. Seriously impressive!

At first I thought it would be hard to come up with enough stuff for a 5-point package, but now I'm thinking mine might be more than 5 points . . . I have so many great ideas!

(I've also been listening to OoT soundtrack music on YouTube . . . it's seriously inspiring. Go do it. :P)

Thank goodness my mom is a crafty person, too. I had to go steal some glue sticks for my hot glue gun from her. :P (And no, this does not give anything away, glue guns can be used for all sorts of crazy things!)

I also have the incredible urge to play Zelda now. Must focus! Craft first, play later.

i'm at work right now listening to the windwaker soundtrack on my computer that's full of windwaker icons. I figured I should share some links for all you zelda-philes:

A big set of Windwaker Mac icons:
http://pixelgirlpresents.com/node/6831
(it's super easy to change mac icons: highlight the icon you want to use, File: get info, click on the little picture of the icon in the top left of the Info window, Copy, then click on the item whose icon you'd like to change, File:get info, click on the little picture of the icon in the top left of the Info window, Paste. Ta-da! Now your hard drive can be Medli!)

Download the whole WindWaker soundtrack:
http://www.zeldadungeon.net/Soundtracks-The%20Wind%20Waker%20Original%20Soundtrack.php

Download the whole Ocarina soundtrack:

Ya! I'm so stoked about this. Already finished something tiny for you. ;)

Yay, I'm so excited!!! I'll definitely try to start tomorrow or saturday, just have to tweak my ideas a bit, and then it's go time!

I've already learned two new crafts in working on this swap. This is what I love about swapping. It gets me inspired to craft again, and gets me to try new things.

...wish I were far enough along to post some teaser pics  :)

I'm not sure if there is, but I've only done a couple swaps myself :) In the past, I've seen them done before someone sends them out to their partner.  They are loads of fun to look at and guess though  ;D

Found out my partner live in the same city as me! We are soooo gonna skip the shipping and just meet up instead!!! Saves money and I don't have to think about the size of what I make if I want to do something large!

The same thing happened with my partner (how awesome is that?!)  AND she has something I made on her wist (makes one of my items easy to decide on, haha!)  Dizzer has some amazing partnering skills, I swear!

I'm not entirely sure about etiquette per se, but people usually post them in the thread as a blurred image or super close up where you can't really make out what's going on ;) I'd say that if you finish something, and your partner is cool with it, go ahead and post a teaser pic of it :D

I had some nice progress this weekend crafting for the swap.  Finished designing and started the small item, and purchased most of the supplies for the large.  The medium is almost done: just needs a few finishing touches :)

We're also supposed to be getting (another) snowstorm this week, which means I get the day off, which means more time to craft!  :D

Hey Zelda crafters!

Just wanted to officially announce that I'm taking over as organizer while Dizzer sorts out another swap that's giving her trouble.

Also, a reminder to make sure you've PM'ed your partner and also posted here to this thread some time in the last week.

Hope your crafts are coming along well, I know I sure am enjoying this swap so far. I have two items (both large-ish) half way finished at this point.

Thanks so much for stepping up to the plate to take over organizing!  :)

I won't have much time to craft this weekend (my husband and I are going to visit friends on the other side of the state), but as of today the medium is officially finished, and I have about 60% of the small done.  Still in the designing stage for the large item, not sure which way I want to take it at this point.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hmm . . . my large came out a bit larger than I originally intended it to be . . . must reconsider shipping. >.<

Anybody used the USPS flat-rate boxes before? Are they worth it? I'm just curious, wanted to double-check before I went out and bought one.

I've used them before, but only when I've had small, heavy things to ship. I've never seen the largest box they have for that, but the small is SUPER  tiny and the medium's not too big either. In the last Anime/Manga swap, I made a GIIIAAANT dog pillow that cost about the same as a middle-sized flat rate, but was like... 3 times bigger.  :)

a bunch of extras dug out from my stash, a few "must get"s from the store to do up

medium finally done...after remaking! i love the remake, i really do!
2small items broken beyond fixing...i tried! still glad i tested their durability!
1...1/4 of a small i would like to say...done!

12 million ideas, 3 out the window, and 3 not started projects...

3 items finished (1 is almost, almost finished so I'm counting it as finished)
2 in progress: for one, I have to ask a question to my partner before I decide if I redo part of it or if it is not necessary and the second one I still have to decide what I want to do to finish it...
1 idea that I'll try probably today
1 other vague idea that I may try if I can make it more precise in my head...

I tried two new crafts with this swap, yay!   :D

Dusty: if you do decide to use the flat rate boxes from USPS, make sure that the box can close all the way, otherwise they will not ship it (this happened to a friend of mine).

As for an update, I'm officially done with the medium and the small just needs a few finishing touches then I can start on the large. :)

I'll keep my eyes open, but I think I need a new tiny idea... or somewhere to store 34 spairs.

We got a ton of snow today, so that plus the reduced bus schedule due to MLK day made it an easy decision to stay home and write lesson plans and grants. Plus lots of crafting, of course.

Large = finally done! I am so very excited about this item, I think I'm more proud of this than any other item I've ever crafted for a swap.

Medium = 3/4 done

Small = don't even know what to craft yet. have so many ideas, and the large and medium have taken sooooo much time and effort, I'm trying to be a little less ambitious, but that probably won't work. With the ideas I have so far, this "small" is likely to be just as "big" as the medium and larges!

Man, this swap is so fun. And from the sounds of all your posts, it's same for you guys too--so much productivity!

Small done! Made it once... didn't work quite right though my fiancÚ and his friend said it was fine. Made it again and now I'm satisfied with it. Much better! But I'll probably send both anyway and my partner can judge whether the first one is okay.
The medium is organized out and just needs to be put together (just :p).
Large... still not yet. I feel like I'm not doing enough with the things my partner has said she likes from LoZ, so I'm going to have to ponder over that a bit while figuring out the large.
I did find a box and put together some extras, though! Here's to hoping whatever large I come up with still fits in the chosen box. Not that there's any lack of boxes around here with packing going on :)

Who here has played Link the the Past?

Since I've read many times that it's as good as ocarina of time, I just downloaded it on the virtual console. And man! It's really hard! Or maybe I just suck. But I have died so many times from stupid snakes and rats in the sewers, and I'm only half hour into the game.

Those of you that have played it, what did you think of it? And any pointers for a hopelessly terrible noob?

I love LttP!! It's one of my favorites and I definitely have it downloaded on my Wii.  As far as tips, I always wait to pick up pots until I need them (for rupees or hearts), so try and remember where they are, so you can find them again.  Also, never forget the power of the sword as a lawnmower, lol. Another thing is I try to attach things on a diagonal, so the body is away from them, and they are on the sword side...does that make sense?

It seems easy to me, but I've also played it many times, it can definitely be tricky to get used to 2D after played the 3D Zelda games.

That sure is true. I've played the SNES rpg Secret of Mana many times, so I thought I'd be fine starting ALttP. But this game doesn't feel anything like Secret of Mana.
I think I just have to be more patient.  :-\

Just out of curiousity, are you playing with a classic control/GameCube controller or the Wiimote and Nunchuk? It might be easier with a regular controller...I totally suck at 2D games (Smash Bros, MarioKart, etc) using the wiimote and have to use the Gamecube controllers.

Checking in!  I lost track of Craftster when the school semester started, oops!

Medium is almost done, along with a couple of smalls.  I've stalled out on the Large until I get more materials (I made an oopsie! ;))  I'm also tossing around a few ideas for extras, since I'll be meeting up with my partner and avoiding shipping costs! :D

LttP is one of my favorite Zelda games!  It was the first one I could (sort-of) play on my own. (Though I still had to hand off the controller to my grandma for the hard parts!)  It's got a great storyline if you go around and talk to everyone, too!

I agree on the whole change-your-angle until your sword is between you and whomever you're attacking.  For the sewers, it's a little easier if you turn up your brightness so you can see things coming and to just kind of swing your sword as you go, so anything attacking you dies.  The game gets easier once you get the Pegasus Boots (chaaaarge!) so try to stick with it!  Also remember that Zelda has always been just as much about puzzles and strategy as fighting, so a lot of times you can just avoid monsters instead of trying to deal with them.

I would not say LttP is my favorite Zelda game, but I would most definitely say it is the BEST Zelda game. It is the very definition of "Zelda", and thus must be played through by any true fan at least once.  :) Kudos to you for your efforts!

In reality, old Zelda and new Zelda games are exactly the same... just the balance is different. In the original Zelda, there was no such thing as a 1/4 heart. You had wholes, halves, and for a long time only three of them. You, if not careful, could easily die at the hands of a simple Octorock. In Twilight Princess... there's this room in the desert dungeon that really sticks out to me... it's got this GIANT SPIKED BAR spinning around, with skulls and bones all over the floor, and when you undoubtedly screw the timing up and this TERRIFYING thing hits you and you panic... you shouldn't. Because you've lost 1/4th of a heart. And look! There are six jars right here with hearts which will re-appear if you exit/re-enter the room! (Seriously; this bar does as much damage as the BEES do. I actually got more hurt by the bees, because I had nowhere to run to... :P) In fact, I haven't been afraid of Ganondorf/an end boss since Ocarina of Time; they may look epic, but goodness knows they take all of one fairy or potion bottle to beat.

So! My advice is thus: if it doesn't need to be killed, don't go out of your way to kill it. A lot of enemies in LttP (and the original LoZ) change directions surprisingly fast, and all those little hits add up quickly. You can also walk with you sword held out, so if you keep walking facing the majority of enemies on screen, none of them can attack you head-on. Good luck! May the way of the hero lead to the Triforce.  :D

AAAANYHOO. I've had the small done since before this swap even started (I'm making a ton for a convention), I have all the supplies for my medium which should be easy, I have an extra I found lying around my house that is awesome, aaand... well... I haven't started my large at all, because I've been making this instead: Wind Waker crawfish sweater!!  :D

I know, I lucked out on the color! It's Simply Soft in "Berry Blue", a new color I think.

...and yes. I used a ridiculously old version of Paint Shop to make a crawfish sprite.  :D

You did a great job! And no worries: I use Excel for my charting needs ;) If it's old and still works, why not?

On a crafting note, I got 3/4's of the large done yesterday and it is looking good  8)

I also just finished everything. Will probably be sending out in a day or two. Need to take lots of pics, scavenge my stashes for some extras, and then get it packaged up.

eeee, so excited!

Yes! Very epic. I'm amazed at the cross-stitch ability of some people.  Something like this would take me years to finish!

Still crafting away! Finished a quick extra thing and slogging away at a large (I think?) and medium. Sometimes I'm much too impatient for my crafting-speed (soo sloowww with some things)!

sorry to hear that  :-\

I think that sewing projects definitely make me swear and cry more than any other craft. in fact, I think that sewing is the only craft that makes me swear and cry.

That is why I don't sew, except for super-basic seams and whatnot. I have neither the time nor the patience for it. >.<

I do, however, admire that my swap partner does. :D

I finished up the small last night and am hoping to have the large finished by the weekend so I can send  ;D

Same here! Also, I don't want to buy a sewing machine, and I don't have room for more stash (fabric)...my yarn is taking up enough as it is!

You should look up tutorials for mattress stitch, it is the method I use for most knitted items (otherwise I do grafting).  It is pretty easy to get and it makes for very nice and professional looking seams :)

As the weekend approaches, this is just another friendly reminder that send-outs are in 3 days!

Can't wait to see all the zelda goodies, and my partner's package finally arrived, so I'm especially anxious  ;D

And to help you pass the time, here's a new IGN article: "Top 20 weirdest Zelda Characters" (I think we all know who #1 is going to be)  http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/114/1145703p1.html (http://uk.wii.ign.com/articles/114/1145703p1.html)

I'm guessing it's Tingle...but he strikes me as more annoying than weird.

I'll probably be opening the package tonight as a reward for getting my reading done :) I'm all done with yours, so I'll be ready to send tomorrow!

Ooooh lordie...  :-\

For once, I was going to mail a swap on time... but my large needs just a liiittle more work. And plus, you know, while deciding to do a color change or not on said large, decided that this color change would be best as a separate item, and lo and behold! A new medium was born and made on the same day.

ANYHOO~!

I should hopefully be mailing on Tuesday, but uh... there's a BLIZZARD WARNING most of Tuesday and Wednesday... so... if we really do get buried in TWO FEET OF SNOW... I might not make it to the post office.

Fellow Zelda swappers,

I received the most amazing package from Lotuspixie! I opened it last night, but was too tired and grungy to take pics, so I will be doing that tonight.

Anyway, it is amazing so look forward to awesomeness craftiness later today.

Sincerely,

Striker923

P.S. Bunniebard, I hear ya. I don't know where they're going to put all this new snow with 3.5 feet already on the ground!!
