Welcome to the Tiny Winter House Swap!  Grab your mittens and scarves, it's cold out!

Details of swap:
You will be crafting one Tiny Winter House for your partner.  This swap will have the same parameters as the OTT or One Tiny Thing swap.  Your house must be smaller than 4 X 4", and can be made in any media with any materials you choose.  The goal is to craft something tiny that you can create with a high level of skill.  Careful work, beautiful details, embellishment and interesting finishes/stitches/clay work, etc. are encouraged.
You will have one partner.  You can only send your partner one Tiny House, so extras are not allowed in this swap.  We want a relatively low-impact swap that won't break the piggy bank on materials or shipping.

This is on the same time line as the Haunted House Swap - let's be efficient now, house-builders!

Swap name: Tiny Winter House Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap:  Camelama

Sign-up date range: 13th 20th November 2010
Date to send item by:  18th December 2010

Limited to a certain number of people? : 20

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? No

Age requirement? 16+

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES
- Is at least 18 years old: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month
- Has posted at least 15 times
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps
- Does not have any negative feedback
- Participant has agreed that he/she is at least 16 years old
- If within the US, understands that Delivery Confirmation number is required for this swap
- If outside the US, understands that a mailing receipt copy is required for this swap

Due to the tight time frame, anyone with a significant history of sending late will be refused a place on the swap.

Additional requirements:

1.  Keep in regular contact with me (the organizer) or by posting in the thread.  When PMing me about the swap always put Tiny Winter House Swap in the subject so that I don't miss your PM.  If you foresee that you will have a problem sending out on time or have another issue please let me know as soon as it comes up.

2.  Keep in regular contact with your partner.

3. YOU MUST PM ME AND YOUR PARTNER WHEN YOU SEND AND WHEN YOU RECEIVE.  If you are sending within your own country, you must have a DC# (delivery confirmation number).  When  you pm to say you have sent, be sure to include your DC number.  If you are sending outside of your country and cannot get a tracking number, you must keep your receipt as proof of shipping and preferably send me a scan/photo of it.

4.  When you receive, you must post pictures in the gallery. If you don't have a digital camera, make sure you let your partner know so that s/he can photograph their work before shipping, and post their own pictures once you've received.  This is a good thing to do anyhow, just in case (God forbid) your package gets lost in the mail or something...

If you want to participate, complete the following questionnaire and PM it to me, camelama (do not post your response in the thread).

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
-Craftster username:
-Email address:
-Your real name:
-Mailing address including the country:
-Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country?
-Confirm that are at least 16 years old or, if not, that you have moderator approval(YES/NO)
-Are you able to take pictures of your item to post in the gallery?:
-What craft skills could you use to make your Tiny Winter House (e.g. embroidering, papier mache, regular or polymer clay sculpting, wood carving, knitting, crochet, etc.) :
-Do you have a Wist, photos page, website, Etsy faves, etc? Post links (or make sure they're posted in your profile and say "see profile"):
-Describe your perfect Tiny Winter House.  This can include links to houses you love, favorite colors, favorite materials, etc... or you can leave it open and let your partner stalk and surprise you.
-Any themes to avoid?
-Any crafts to avoid?
-Do you have allergens (cats, dogs, smoke, etc) and/or allergies?
-Is there anything you would really hate to receive (for example animal products)?
-Anything else you would like your partner to know?:

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your item and other details about participating in a swap.

Oh I so want to do a swap but I suck at sending things. I can get them made and packaged and then i stall at postage and sending.

Ill be glad when we can just push a button and beam them to each other.

Hurry up technology!

Oh man!  I SOOOOOO wish  I could participate in this!  Sigh.  Winter House would be one of my favorites, I just know it.  Not only am I crafting away for the holiday season (personal and professional), but we got a puppy.  Hoo boy!  I am going to follow this though and live vicariously through my fellow craftsters.

Camelama: I love that photo!  I think I have it in my wists, even.  It reminds me of when they use those giant trucks to move a house on the roads... but this using a mug to move a tiny house from room to room.   :P

You can ship directly from your house using Click n' Ship from the US Postal Service (usps.com)!  If you use their FREE Priority Mail boxes or envelopes you don't even have to weigh it!  AND you can order the boxes/envelopes online, too, once you set up an account.  It sometimes takes a couple weeks to get them, but you can get several and have them on hand.  It's how I ship most of my etsy orders.  In fact, it's several cents cheaper to do it from home than if you do it at the PO.  You can get insurance, DC#s, everything.

Hmm.  I'm torn.  I said no more swaps til next year, but of course I cant stay off the swap board.  Now I'm telling myself that this swap could kick off a whole new line of crafts I've been meaning to delve into....

Can I join as my first swap?

Yes, if you meet the criteria of # of posts, length of time on craftster etc. :)

(don't get your requirements confused with those of the organizer, which has more requirements)

I keep telling myself no more swaps...so tempting to sign up. I think I may just craft along with you all and see what amazingness everyone creates.  :)

I'd love to join in this swap. Have an idea for a paper house that collapses flat for shipping.
Will head over to read the Craftsters rules now. . .

For a bit more inspiration, I just found these two houses tonight, if you're a Christmas kind of tiny house person!

Don't forget, those of you who are thinking about it - it's just one item, no extras, and if you make it flat-packable, the shipping is pretty cheap!  :)

I can't decide if I want to request an igloo, a log cabin, a Victorian Christmas, or a tree house!   :D :D

I would totally love this swap but am afraid my skills may be sub-par! I have never made a mini house or a bigger house lol! I'm better with 2 dimensions! Maybe I'll make a practice one and see how it turns out  ;)

I`m probably gonna wait before signing up for new swaps- with one swap unfinished since june (i have an angel angeling for a missing angel :S) and another personal swapper gone missing, i`m really feeling unmotivated and confused :(

even tho i loved the haunted tiny house i got a lot, i`m having a hard time starting my fairy house, so no time for a second cutie for now.

have fun, people! :)

Just for fun, I took the One Tiny House that Barbalot made for me, and turned it into a One Tiny Winter House to celebrate almost partner time!

Brrr! Snowy winter evening, snowy landscape, Christmas tree, and both kitties [one made by Barbalot, one made by a partner in another tiny swap!] out playing in the snowdrifts! Aren't they *cold*?!  BRR!  :o

I mean, look - the snowdrifts are as tall as they are!

After lots of fun in the snow, they got cold and decided to go in and curl up in the cat bed and look out at the Winter landscape.

 :D :D

Hee.  Such a versatile house!

Hi all! STorm knocked out our neighborhood's power last night (winds off the water were gusting to 60mph!) and am still without. I'm at a coffee shop where they have power, will send out partners etc later today after our power comes back on or I find faster wifi.   ::)  This is like being back on a 300 baud modem! AUGH!  I'm so spoiled.  ;D

But guess what?  IT IS SNOWING IN SEATTLE! WOOOOOOOOO!   :D

So, to recap, woo snow, partners later today, good thing I hadn't bought my frozen turkey yet! HA!

Sorry again for the delay, all - but each character I type takes about 5 seconds to appear. Just think how long this sentence here took!  ::)

Yay! Power back on at home, heat on full blast, cat hidden under about 10 blankets on the bed, Internet connection going strong!  Give me an hour or so foe me to make sure I didn't give the same partner to three people ::) and then I'll send out the info!

In the meantime, a little treat for you!  While my power was out, I soon heard that the museum nearby had power, and they had Yulefest going on - a weekend of Nordic crafts, food, music, dancing, art, books, etc. So I ran over and got some cookies (spritz, brysselkex, rosettes) and lefsa and stollen, bought a few crafted items (love the wheat weaving!), and then across the crowded hall I saw ...........

A WHOLE COLLECTION OF TINY WINTER HOUSES!  So of course I bought one! I had to!

I have her card somewhere around here, will post a link to her blog/site when I find it.

YAY!

Now excuse me while I go review partner info with one hand and eat pfeffernusse with the other hand.  ;D

Hope your house is warming up and you don't get too much snow out there, camelama.  I know how Seattle is not all that used to large amounts of snow.  One of my best friends lives out there (I met her on Craftser as a swap partner) and she complains about impassible streets when they get more than a couple inches.  Here, we are used to getting 24 inches in a night and still going to work and school in the morning.  But, I loved Seattle on my visit out there this summer.  The kids and I drove out so we could finally meet my Craftster swap partner/friend in person ... such an amazing place you live out there.

I have actually already started some basic tiny house stuff that might translate into a tiny winter house.

Shade:)

Ok, partner info has been sent!  Please let me know if you're missing anything, or what I sent doesn't match the partner list in the first post, etc etc. (Can you tell I just KNOW I made a mistake somewhere?!)

I ended up assigning all UK folks with UK folks!  We had a lot of folks who couldn't mail to other countries due to the cost, and so we ended up with all 4 of you together. I hope that's ok! (Ack! partnering anxiety! ack!)

And now, to stalking and house building we go!!!!!

Oh my gosh, I just realized that the partner I assigned to myself in the 3-person partnering ... is in the same city as me!   :o    HA!  Purely by accident, I swear.  That is making me giggle now.

Yeah, it's just flakes, it's not sticking or anything. And having grown up in the North Country, I just get excited to see ANY snow, I love it so much. But yeah, Seattle cannot handle snow *at all*.  I never drive in the snow here due to the hills and idiots in 4WheelDrive trucks/SUVs thinking "I can do anything! I have 4WD!". Ugh.  ;D

Now off to snack on some Sandbakelser  and stalk stalk stalk!    :D

I am having a tad bit of anxiety though over shipping, as in how to secure everything so the PO doesnt destroy it! Anyone have any ideas? I was thinking about cushioning around it with wadded up plastic sacks. Hmm...

It might depend on what type of materials you're going to use.  ????  My last 2 houses were made of cardboard, so I just had to keep it from getting crushed.  (I don't remember what I used in the first round, but...)  Last time, I used a sturdy box, just slightly larger than the house, and some packing peanuts that kept it from bumping around.  Those air-filled bags would work really well for that, too.  The house I received was packed in foam cubes and polyfil.... worked great and was light-weight!

(And PearliePie -- ooohhh, an A-frame ski valet!?  How cute would that be?!)

Hello all, from a true One Tiny Winter House!  I'm snowed in!  Drifts and everything.  Seattle is a sheet of ice and staying so for the next few days.  Here's hoping Melli is warm and safe - it took some people TEN FREAKING HOURS to get home from downtown Seattle last night, on bus trips that normally take 55 minutes.  For once I'm thankful to be unemployed and not having to go anywhere!!!  In fact I may even go back to bed, inexpensive way to stay warm!  ;D  The cat has not left the bed yet, she knows where it's warm.

And yes I think I also will be making a few and judging them (I always get a little carried away)  :D
I have so many ideas I dont want to over load my tiny house, Which is quite tiny... Tiny things are so CUTE!! haha but delicate!

Enjoy being snowed in Floofy!! in bed, warm and cozy!! (actually as I write this im in bed with tea... not wanting to face the world today!! ha)

I think it's because they look so cosy. I actually work with soneone who lives in a real one, and when it snows the snowdrifts make this amazing glowing blue tunnel all around the house right under the eves (are they still eves in an A-frame? hmm..) I think four inches is to tiny to recreate that look though!

I've been hearing from UK friends about the arctic freeze you've been having in places there! BRR!

We just had a night of above-freezing rain that wiped out all the snow and ice that had kept me "trapped" for the last 5 days. (As in, I can't drive anywhere, but easy to walk to what I needed. No way am I taking my precious baby car out on the icy roads to be smushed by some stupid SUV spinning out!)

I have been researching some techniques for the house I'm building.  I get to use new and different tools! WOO! This is gonna be fun. I hope my mental vision can translate into reality.  ;D

Thanks for your concern Camelama! I did have to wait an hour in the freezing cold wind for my bus to come monday night, but I had sort of a communal experience with the rest of the stranded people at the bus stop, and I felt like the crazy weather really brought the city together, in a way. And when I hear about other people's commutes... mine wasn't so bad.
Hope everyone had a great thanksgiving! My mom has been staying with us for a week, which has interrupted my crafting schedule, but she just left for Michigan, so now it's full speed ahead!

Progress hasn't started for me on the making yet, two designs are done though
It has snowed like crazy over here in the UK too! I thought "oh it's a shame we wont get much snow" when you guys were all on about crazy Seattle snow, and now it doesn't matter how many times they grit the roads, a huge snowfall keeps following them and covering the roads with thick snow again.
It's mad, we haven't had decent snow like this since i was about 10, and now two years in a row :P

Oh and Annacharlotte, hi long time no see! :P it's a shame you missed sign-ups ;D

On the bus (way too early) this morning I had a brain flash and got a great idea for part of the house.  Now if only I can find the right tools to make it happen! FUN! I get to go to the hardware store! LOL

Slaving away!  ;D

I had forgotten how it is to work in this particular media, especially when I can't get to my tools (they're on the bottom of a stack of boxes I can't lift) so it's not as... pretty... as what was in mind, but it's getting done.

I've hit that point where I think "OMG this is going to be awful, I should just ditch it now".  But I've learned not to, because it usually ends up how I wanted, or better  :D

I hate those intermediate stages where it looks NOTHING like the final product  :P

I'm right there with the brick wall, and the darling other half is fed up with clay, paper, wood, paint, cutting utensils of various shapes and sizes, wire, glue, etc. all over the end table at my end of the couch. Friday afternoon and possibly Saturday will be the big push of get-it-done (since my schedule is COMPLETELY booked until then) so we'll see how it turns out then. Right now? Rather disappointing to me.

just sent out my fairy house today, so now i`m ready to work on the winter one. I`ve noticed, that usually it takes me one night (little kids around til 10pm :P) to make 95% of the work and then i`m like: yup, done "i`ll mail it tomorrow". tomorrow is usually very busy, so i can`t mail it and a week later, when about to box it, i need to add more stuff, that actually gives the personality :D

On the bright side, I have more wood and Tuesday off, so can start it again. What's that they say? Third time's a charm?

I need a solid hour or two to do the last bit of major work on my house, then some fiddly bits.  I'll probably mail out on the deadline itself.  ;)

Ooooo, intriguing!!! :D
I am now ill :( i would have preferred to get my winter cold (that seems more like flu because i get really run down from working through it) at the beginning of the swap!
I'm hoping tomorrow is the day i wake up feeling a bit more human, i've already had to call off visiting my best friend who moved house recently, and may not be able to have a driving lesson either :P
I've managed to keep myself awake enough to feed myself and drink some tea with honey.

I dont think it is actually too fragile, but i think there is something i can do to make it more durable, and ease my worries when i send :)

Just checking in! I'm not done, but making significant progress. However, I think I'm done for tonight as I can only do a little at a time before my hand tires out. Expecting a timely shipment to michigan before I ship myself out to michigan. I hear there's plenty of snow...and cold...where my little house is going.
If everyone is as crazy as I feel right now with holiday preparations, good luck to you all! My list of people to craft for only seems to get longer...

Well, this is embarrassing, but your organizer? Is going to have to send late.  OOPS.

I did something to my neck last week and I've been "frozen" in one position ever since.  Finally got some muscle relaxing drugs from the doc, and ZOWEE they work, but they also put me to sleep almost instantly! LOL   So, i'm either "stuck" and in pain but awake, or loosened and no pain but asleep. Difficult to craft through that!  It's better every time i'm off the drugs, tho, so hope that this weekend will see me with some actual crafting time to finish off the poor little halfway house.  ;D

OW -- I'm so sorry to hear that, camelama!  The same thing happened to me last summer -- pinched nerve in my neck.  It was terrible!  I hope you feel better soon!

And speaking of terrible... I'm on day 3 of some horrendous food poisoning, so I'll be sending late myself.  (Many thanks to the Christmas party that shared more than holiday cheer! :P )  But that's what I get for waiting 'til the last minute to finish up.  I'm hoping to send by tomorrow or Tuesday, at the latest.

Hey folks -

We have so many seriously ill people (5 at last count!) or injured (your organizer) or people caught in travel situations, that I've extended the deadline to Dec 30th.  (Sorry for those who were on the spot and actually got theirs sent on time! You rock! You get a gold star!)   ;D

So, send-out date is now 12/30/2010.

Wonderful!  I was actually getting ready to pack up my package and send ... but was wishing I had a couple more days.  I did have it done before we needed the replacement partner, but well ... I started tweaking and adding and such and just never got it to *that* point.  You know the one ... where you stand back and nod in satisfaction.  Something just seems to be missing for my wonderful new partner.  I actually know what it is, but didn't have enough time.  This will give me an extra couple days and I will not feel so guilty.  What a HUGE weight off my chest!

I hope you are okay with that Phizzychick!

Brightest Blessing and wonderful holidays, no matter how you spend it.  I hope all of you get better and can enjoy the holidays pain and illness free.

Shade :)

Of course! ;D

I had a completely free weekend last weekend and finished my little house! Once I started I just couldn't put it down and I got pretty excited at how it all came together. Since I was coming to England for a few days I brought it with me to post so it is on it's merry way! The post office lady said that it probably wouldn't leave England until after Christmas now though. :D

I hope everyone is having a wonderful time and isn't too snowed in where they are! We're keeping our fingers crossed that there's no more snow and we can fly back to Spain tomorrow!

YUCK!  I'm sorry to see so many injuries and illnesses... I hope you are all feeling better - or at least recover very, very soon.  :(
I was among the ill:  food poisoning.  Like no other.  I prayed for death!  But it's Christmas Eve, and I'm finally recovered.  Still a little weak, but 4 pounds lighter.  ;)

And THANK YOU, camelama, for extending the deadline.  What a relief!  The second design I tried was an absolute failure, so I'm on my 3rd attempt.  Wish me luck!

Yes, thank you for extending the sendout date! And good wishes to all the sick and injured. I haven't made any progress at all, but it's because my coworker is touring with his band, and I had to fill in his hours as well as mine. 11 hour days four days this past week, and one day last week, and that leaves no crafting time. BUT it's the weekend, and it will get done!

Well, and I just realized, I made the Subject say Dec 31st, but said Dec 30th in my post.

So, we'll go with Dec 31st.  ::)  Lord love little green apples, but I'm all mixed up this month!!!   The house is filled with people for Christmas, I've been relegated to the fold-out couch in the basement instead of my bed  ;), so no crafting time at all - mid-week they're gone and I will put the finishing touches on the house and mail it out!  I just love this, I don't want to send it off!   ;D

Man!  We can't catch a break with this sendout date! LOL

So, lots of post offices and mailing spots are CLOSED today!  DOH.  Your organizer was NOT thinking.

Due to the holidays, then, the send-out date has been moved to Jan 4, 2011.

I tell ya.  :)  At least I'm learning a lot, next time I organize I'll be so much more .... organized!  ::)  ;D

AHHH! I left my package on the kitchen table when I left for work this morning. Boo.
I should have time to post it this evening, but it's going to be tight.

Hey gang! Just wanted to let you know I'll be updating sent/rec'd tonight when I have real network access again (jonesing for my cute cat video fix, har har har) and also feedback updates for the folks who have sent and had it received.

We have houses arriving in just a couple days, wooo!

Ok!  We're down to just a few houses left to arrive, and I know at least 2 of them are victims of snow, postal strikes, and inept postal offices. (Don't EVEN get me started on how many of my correctly metered/stamped christmas cards and bills got returned!!!!! Augh!!!! AND the box w/ the tiny house. GRRRR. I'm just very lucky that the rent check was not one of the returned letters!!!!)

So Mell should have her box in a day or two (after the MLK holiday here in the US), and I know Bethives & Niina_M have had postal strikes and snow issues. So those two may take a while to get delivered.  I still haven't received a box from the UK that was mailed on Dec 8th.

So basically, we're in waiting mode now!   ;D

Huzzah! I love the chimes on the house, and of course it should have a chimney.    ;D

Great job, Phizzy! For those that didn't catch it, she hopped in at the very last moment as a sort of angel, and I'm very appreciative and THANK YOU for that!

And with the arrival of Phizzy's house, the swap is complete! Everyone sent, everyone received, and there were no flakers! WOOO!   ;D ;D ;D
