While my package to Racky seems to be taking it's dear sweet time getting to her OR coming back to me, I've received a fabulous package from her! I'm excited to get this gallery started!

All the contents of the envelope splayed out along with the wee tag she included with a note on the back:

And some of my favorite bits (I love everything, but there are enough pictures as it is! :D)
Vintage photos:

Language papers:

A collection of creepy clowns which will absolutely make it into my sketchbook, as I have a serious clown phobia and my theme IS nightmare.

Creepy doll heads:

Fabulous stamped pages:

And finally, some of the tiny items in the bag that was in the first photo:

Thank you so much for all the lovely paper bits Racky, I just know I'll use it all for something. :D

I hope my package makes its way to you while I'm away on vacation, it would be great to return to good news. :) And, I think it's sort of funny that a few of our items are very similar. :D

Nice package! Those clowns freak me out..... :o

This makes me even more nervous about my envelope and if my partner will be happy with it.

I received from DanniQuee on Friday, and am just now getting around to posting. Here is a great shot of everything she sent:

Check out her sketches of a magpie and a packrat: perfect for my "I'm a Scavenger" theme! There are also lots of other great scavenged goodies: tickets, old stamps, bits of a map, vintage illustrations and photos from old books and magazines and yearbooks...all sorts of papery goodness!

DanniQuee and I had almost given up on this envelope making it: it took 9 days to get to me, and we live ONE STATE away from each other. I swear, she could have walked it down in less time! In any case, I'm glad it finally showed up because I feel like I'll be able to use lots of it in my book. Now I need to get busy.

Thanks for the great collection, DanniQuee!

Oh what a wonderful package !!! I would be tempted to just hang on to all of that. I am terrible about falling so in love with art supplies that I cant use them. LOL

Title: Re: Sketchbook Project Swap
Post by: rackycoo on September 19, 2010 08:50:05 AM
I used to have a real problem with hanging on to the "good stuff" until I realized that it wasn't doing anyone any good sitting in a drawer or bin. I've gotten better about just jumping in and using it.

YAY !!! I finally have it all packed up. LOL
My family is over joyed, you should have heard them. I have had every single flat surface in the house covered with paper, stamps, art supplies etc.

We have eaten dinner in the living room ever since this swap started. LOL Ahh to live with an artist. We have a dinning room table only for Holidays. LOL

Both of those packages are great! There is a ton of great stuff in both of them! I really like the pack-rat sketch!

Tero - my husband and I were having that conversation today (him: "I would really like to be able to use the table for things like, oh I don't know... eating?" me: "but that's where my crafts go...." (silence.) me: "oh, alright, I'll move them...")  ::)

Ffrogg - I am very easy to please AND I love anything that comes in the mail (if it isn't a bill), so I can guarantee that I will appreciate anything that you send!  ;D

Prepare for more awsomeness...I received from Amaryllisroze!

First of all some very beautifully stamped papers:

(are these handmade stamps?...they are beautiful!)

Letters, tickets, stamps and even some small coins. (Amaryllis, what kind of coins are they?)

The art saves is also perfect for my theme (revenge on consumer society, frugal living, back to nature-ish subject  ;)).

And more (also perfect for my theme!):

And lovely (background) papers:

Amaryllisroze, thank you so much for this fantastic package, the images and papers inspire me a lot, most of them I would never have found myself. I love everything!  :D

The little red "coins" are ration tokens from WWII. They were created so retailers could give change for ration tickets. They came in red & blue. The red ones were for purchasing fresh food products. The little blue & white stamps above the "Art Saves" sticker are also rations.

The stamped images are all just ones I have in my stash, not handmade though.

I'm still amazed it made it there already. I just mailed it on Wednesday. That must be a US to Netherlands 1st class mail record!

What fantastic goodies!

Tero - my husband and I were having that conversation today (him: "I would really like to be able to use the table for things like, oh I don't know... eating?" me: "but that's where my crafts go...." (silence.) me: "oh, alright, I'll move them...")  ::)

I seriously thought I was the only one with this problem! It wasn't as much of an issue when I lived by myself - but now that I live with my boyfriend, our dining room crafting table, has become the centerpiece of our small little apartment. Especially during this project. I'm not going to tell him the problem will go away, because clearly, it won't. We'll have to work around it - yesterday he asked me to "part the sea of crafts" so we could also use the table to eat.

All of them are covered....LOL....I know, I know. I should seek help. :D

Me too...And I did send it by air mail/priority. Maybe the envelope was too thick (ok, it was huge   ::)) and has been treated as a package in stead of regular mail. In that case it could take a bit longer, but should still be there...today-ish  :-\
I keep my fingers crossed...

I got so much awesome stuff! I really wish it wasn't the first week of school so I could just start working! Some of the pictures I had a hard time getting, but you have to understand that whole "first week of school" thing! I'm just too tired to try to take them again!

LOTS of cool street art!

Also, some REALLY awesome comic books.

And then some fun B&W pictures Lady Lovecraft took!

Sorry about the flash. These pictures just don't seem to give justice to her pictures! haha But I really am excited! I have a LOT of material for scary stories!! Thank you so much Lady Lovecraft!

Awesome gallery so far- i can't wait to see more!

And me too Racky- although my reckoning is that if you go ahead use the good stuff, you get to buy more good stuff to replace it! teehee!

I used to have a real problem with hanging on to the "good stuff" until I realized that it wasn't doing anyone any good sitting in a drawer or bin. I've gotten better about just jumping in and using it.

Last night I received a bright, cheerfully pink envelope from Sheriffkarli:

Lots of wonderful woodland animals and flowers to use in my sketchbook.
Thank you much, Sheriffkarli!
Everything is great - keep looking at it all spread out on my table and trying to chose a favorite.  I'm currently stalled on my sketchbook, but I know I will integrate some things already.

Great stuff everyone!  This gallery is so much fun to look through!

I received a colossal envelope from Smmarrt filled to the brim with papery goodness.  My only opportunity to take photos was tonight and unfortunately it is dark, but hopefully you are able to get a feel for everything!

First up, the big papers -- background papers, music sheets, marbled papers, you name it:

Next up are some really, really fun pages of images that I can't wait to start working with:

Then we have more fun papers -- a Japanese cooking magazine, Bingo cards, business envelopes, paper people, and more:

And another view of some more of the goodies -- including stamps, Scrabble tiles, polymer clay faces, etc.

And finally stamps!

Thank you so, so much Smmarrt!  This was a wonderful swap and I feel creatively rejuvenated.  ;D  I hope that you enjoy your package as much as I have enjoyed this one!

You're welcome Erika. I was worried that it was more a "destash" envelope than a fit-your-theme type of envelope. I hope you can use some or all of it in future projects and in your sketchbook.

I received from Tara/fabricfriend today. Four pics - and I still didn't capture it all. But I have class tomorrow night so this will have to do until I post more in the Craftalong thread...

First tie-dyed paper, coasters, library cards, brochures, a cookie package and magazine bits.

Next up:

More magazine pages, maps (I love maps!), and pages from an encyclopedia (?).

Third:

Vintage postcards, stickers, tags, milk lids and some other bits (haven't opened the envelope yet).

And finally:

Old stamps, milk grading stickers, vellum pieces, skeletonized leaves, more postcards/brochures/things, so much - a puzzle piece. I'm sure there's more - will try to be more descriptive and coherent on Friday. Thanks so much - I HOPE that some of these bits spur me on and I can finish some more pages this weekend. Whew! Fun.....

Nicoleburdsall is an awesome artist. I gave my little sister the eyeball picture though, she couldn't keep her eyes off of it. And now it is on her wall above her bed:)

Fabric pieces:

Brochures:

The smaller bits and pieces:

An AMAZING shrinky dink octopus (It's fuzzy!):

Metal cut outs:

Ribbons:

And last but not least an awesome role of film negatives:

My most favorite pieces together:

And my most favorite favorite of them all!:

The hands entrance me.

I received from SonjaBoo yesterday - lots of paper stuff (4 photos):

First, lots of good scrapbook paper, sheet music and some old/vintage magazine pages.

Next, wrapping paper, wall paper scraps and some vintage book pages. I can definitely use the red bird paper - I have a few quotes about birds and hope.

Third:

More paper - some textured, ticket stubs, travel stuff, what looks and feels like stabilizer printed with a newpaper - I'm looking forward to using that! And hand-stamped images on receipts (love that idea!), vellum, vintage ads and some scrapbook tags.

Last one -

Lots of book pages - some poetry, giant playing cards, some ads and travel brochures and much more that I didn't or couldn't photograph.

Thanks so much Erika. I do plan to use some of these bits in my books - and for everyone else - good luck and have fun. Thanks Tero for a great idea and hosting this.

I received from Ffrogg526 today!  Wow – what a great package (therefore this is fairly picture heavy!) I already have plans for quite a few of the pieces! My sketchbook topic is “A Day in the Life” so I wanted things that showcase daily life – I have so much to chose from now!

First up: a map, dictionary pages, book pages, photos, ad cards, band fliers, the top of two Hillshire Farms dinner packets and two perfume ads (I want to incorporate multiple senses into the book, so these smells are great!).
I adore “Can it text? Blog? Scroll? Wi-fi? Tweet? No. It’s a book.”

Postcards, business cards, brochure, zoo info and map, nice card from Ffrogg526
Love the old postcards!

Wood pieces, lottery tickets (sorry you didn’t win Ffrogg526!), cool wings, feathers

Hand drawn borders, great stickers, band and event postcards

The group shot - notice newspapers, interesting papers on left side (they weren't captured in any of the other photos and I didn’t realize it until just now...)

Thank you so much Ffrogg526! I am excited to use all of this!

:) You should have feedback now. So organize away my friend. I am sorry it took me too many days to get to you. I was trying to decide when I should give feedback.

Rather than wait till the end I will do it as folks finish their swap. That means that pictures must be posted. If your partner is dragging their feet posting pictures of the package that you sent ( for very valid reasons I am sure :) ) Then you are free to post pictures so you can get feedback earlier.

Everyone keep checking both your status and the first page of the swap to make sure I have not missed something. Rememer this is my very first time so no one assume I know what I am doing. LOL

Everyones packages are so so cool. I would love to have any of them that have been posted so far. Some of you be looking for personal swap request from me soon.  ;)

There are ridiculous amounts of awesome papercrafty goodness in here!

POOSEL and prettyinpaisley sent me some pretty awesome stuff! I can't wait to use it to craft with.

POOSEL sent some awesome scrapbook paper--I love the skeleton print--and these unbelievably cool stickers and clear photo border thingies.

prettyinpaisely sent me all these awesome things, it's really hard to say which I like best--but the ATCs and the puzzle pieces are winners. I can't believe she sent me the awesome dancer surrounded by the brass band though. She was going to use it for her own sketchbook!

Thanks ladies! You should have both of your packages soon.

I love the fern looking stamped paper in that last photo and the picture of the white wall decoration that IdlersDesign sent!

I also really like those clear photo borders that POOSEL sent. I have seen those borders in the store and loved the look of them, but I have no idea how to use them... can you glue them to paper?

DawnsTress sent me sooooooo much!  I swear to you...  I would still be taking pictures if I was photographing everything individually.  ;D  Without futher interruption... ;D

Huge pile of papers!  I hope you can see most of them.  Some of them are marbled with food coloring and barbasol  ;) and some of them are shiny metallic goodness that is actually a giant sticker!

Look at some of the awesome drawing goodness she sent me...  she drew these!  I'm so envious of her drawing talents!  And the two at the bottom are handmade paper.....  again...  me envious!

Some various awesome stamped pieces.

In the interest of saving a little space I'll use thumbnails from here.
MORE AWESOME STAMPED GOODNESS!

Papery and printed goodness.

Various bits of ribbon, paper and some awesome green foil leaves.

Tags, a treble clef (I'm a music teacher), more metallic stickery goodness (that's the purpleish-bluish piece) and other cut out pieces.

Some of my FAVORITE bits from the envelope!  I love these!  Stars and butterflies!  ooohhh  my stars could be the lights in the night sky...  lights in the distance...  yay!  I really do like these!

Finally!

This deserved a big picture!  I love these!  I believe she stamped the metal herself and aren't they just awesome!  And they have plaster on the back so if I put them in the book they won't get squished flat again.  I'm sure that everyone who presses metal already knows that but...  I didn't know.  So I'm amazing and its awesome.   ::)

THANKS SO MUCH DAWNSTREES!!  MY PACKAGE ROCKS!

I hope cindibee doesn't mind (did you get my message cindibee? :) )but I'm gonna go ahead post pics of what I sent to her since she rec'd a while ago...!
Her theme is Dirigibles and Submersibles- a fun challenge for sure!
First the art, I did an ATC size submarine with a fun quote:

Then I painted a watercolour sheet with handwritten words all over it that she can cut up and use for her sketchbook:

I sent a bunch of ephemera goodies for her to use, and we also included other extras in our packages to use for any other projects we wanted:

Submarines and blimps or airships are hard to come by as far as art materials but I found a whole bunch of cool old images and printed them out, and some old vintage pilots, etc. from an old 50's british magazine I had, so she can use them however she wants- I think I did about 15 sheets full!

Then more paper goodies!

Now I can't wait to see what I get! Heehee!

Great packages all :) Sorry ladies I have been out of touch for two days now. I have a kitty health issue that has come up. Looking like all is well but it was crazy for a few days. Please be paitent and give me until tomorrow to fix feedback and update the front page of the swap.
I have heard you all loud and clear about waiting on feedback until pictures are posted. I know understand that is not how it is done here. Sorry.

Happy Paper crafting to all :)

IdlersDesign - YES! Love sushi, especially when it comes with sake! ;)
Foufigirl - I really love the colors you worked with, what a cute sub!
DawnsTrees - yes, it was hard to find a fav but I'd have to say that was at least top 5.

Here's another one of my top 5 favs, a beautiful watercolor - this one may just go up on the wall:

Ah your sweet :) Thank you
I wish I could have come up with a suprise package for each person. My paper stash is large to say the least and every list I read over I found myself saying.."Oh I could share that, Oh and that"

LOL

Well I have received from both of my partners ! :) I have pictures to share of puamelia wonderful package and hopefully will add alteredmommy's pictures tomorrow. Both of you spoiled me and I loved the goodies, thank you so much.

Puamelia's stash of paper goodness

The camera and light were not working with me but that counter is about 6' by 3' and it was FILLED. There are scrapbook papers in there, stacks of foreign language books, newspapers and fliers. All kinds of found paper goodness from Hawaii, drawings, stamps the list goes on and on. :)

I am so sorry for the blur but these papers are amazing. For sure one of my favorite things in the swap. :)

Check out the seaweed that she got and pressed for me. I LOVE this so so much. I think it will be framed rather than put in a journal. :)

Sweet little drawings by her and her children.
Thank you so much for all of the thought and effort you put into my package. I really do love it. I am so sorry it took so long for pictures. :)

I've received from both of my partners!

From Tero I received an amazing box (yes box :) ) full of all kinds of goodies...

All kinds of gorgeous papers, stamped papers, old book pages, a cool comic book, German phone book pages (!!), some really pretty texture rubbings in the top left corner.

Some of my favourites..handwritten letters, some wonderful script that Tero did, a 1950's magazine, some little watch bits, stamps, an awesome package of Tim Holtz letters.  Tero also sent me a fantastic cicada shell with wings that I had great ideas for....when I woke up this morning I found that my cat apparently was most excited by it as well because all that was left were the wings.  which have been hidden away on a very high shelf.  Thank you so much for the wonderful package Tero!!

A few days later I received from my partner Starfish13 whose package took a little side jaunt to another city :)

some great pictures and text for collage, I adore the anatomical OPEN and CLOSED pictures, some paint chips and a lovely bird card

patterned tissue paper, some with random writing on them (Starfish13 has gorgeous handwriting!), handwritten/drawn quotes, a feather, groovy number tickets and a fortune heart!  Thanks for the excellent package Starfish13, I can't wait to use some of this in my book!

Wonderful packages all :) I still owe some picture of my super cool package that I received from Alteredmommy as well.

Boring organizers note. Please check your name on the front page of our swap to see if your status is correct. I am thinking we should have more color and less black by now. The post is being painfully slow or I am not catching PM's that might have came to me?

Hope everyone is having a wonderful time using their new treasures in their journal.

Finally, after post-holiday laundry, friends' weddings and a training course at the other end of the country, I've managed to upload my pictures of my fabulous swap package from alteredmommy.

Some foreign language papers, with Cyrillic, Arabic, Chinese and other (Urdu?) text, and some gorgeous Oriental papers.

More papers with pictures of plants and animals.  I especially love the tissue with the atlas print.

Tree-themed papers and pictures, including an ATC with a fantastic hand-drawn knotty twisted old tree.

And lots of excellent stamps, cigarette cards and other ephemera.

I can't wait to use it in my sketchbook, and was lucky to have such a great swap partner.  (And that the postal service of Whitehorse, Yukon, are good at mail redirections!!)

Foreign money and more really cool images
