Sign-up date range: July 15th to August 5th

If so, which country?

Additional Age requirement? No.
Details of swap:

Do you find yourself using receipts, gum wrappers and other bits of trash to mark your place in a book? Let's fix that! There are waaaaay too many crafty type bookmarks for us to be borrowing trash. Or maybe you could use your trash to make a bookmark......hmmmm mmmm.

You have the option, as a swapper, to either:
--be in a group of 5 (where you craft 4 bookmarks for the other people in your group)
OR
--be matched up with a partner (where you craft only one bookmark).

I received two of my bookmarks already and love them both, they were from tonistagg(the blue one) and kckoala1(the orange one.)  I tried to get a close up on them the orange one twice bc both ends are different, both ends of the blue one ae the same.  These will occupy my books at the start of the fall semester in two weeks (I'm a college student)

Thank you both for some great bookmarks, I have some doubts on mine now... :-[

From kckoala1, this one is marking the week in my planner

From Tonistagg, this one currently holds my place in the novel I'm reading ("And Another Thing" by Eoin Colfer).

Thanks so much kckoala and tonistagg! They're both fantastic. : )

Beautiful :) I love the butterfly one and I really like the idea of using a small chain. :)

I am surprised so far, by the bookmarks showing up. I was intimidated at first thinking that I would not be able to keep up with all of the paper crafters on here.

Cant wait to see what everyone else is coming up with. :)

I love the key one!

I just bought a few vintage keys at an antique shop.

Sooo here's a question: unofficial bookmark swappers...where are we posting the spoils of our venture? I rec'd from PureOath (and love it). I didn't know if it was okay if we shared a picture.

Here's my thought (since it isn't part of the OFFICIAL swap). We can POST photos of our unofficial markers but let's keep them all in one post. As you receive more bookmarks, go BACK to your first "unofficial" post and add more photos to that entry, rather than adding more and more entries to the thread. Any objections?

So, for example, if I show my marker from PureOath here and then receive from squire_inaria, I'll come back to this entry, hit edit/modify and add another photo into this same entry.

I was also thinking about it, I bet we'll easily rack up 100 pages in our gallery. Anyone care to make a wager?

Title: Re: Bookmark Swap Round 3 Gallery of Bibliophilic Love
Post by: squire_inaria on August 16, 2010 07:53:48 PM
I was actually about to ask the same question! I also received a lovely bookmark from PureOath (to PureOath: yes the gorilla is still there. I don't know how he does it in this heat!) and was trying to decide where I needed to post the picture. I also think adding to the original picture post is a good idea, but I just hope I don't miss any that get added later on!

Okay here is my lovely bookmark from the unofficial swap:

Thank you so much PureOath!

This one is from our fearless leader, Cassiecate 57. You can't see the quote very well but it says 'My soul is in the sky' from Shakespeare.

Thank you Cassie!

Here is my unofficial bookmark from HippieKender. The moon image was a freezer paper stencil. I aodre anything with moons on it.

Thanks Hippie!

I just received my lovely (replacement) bookmark from Pollyprissypants. She was wonderful enough to resend when the first one went AWOL during shipping at the post office. It is a paper base with fabric moon, stars and cloud and says 'Star light, Star bright.'

Thank you Polly!!

From Tero: A gorgeous goddess-themed bookmark. The base is a mermaid and there is a small spiral goddess charm on the end of the beaded part. There is also a small tag that says 'find peace within.' She really hit me head on with this one.

Thank you Tero!!

From habitat-lady: a beautiful red bookmark with a gorgeous shooting star cutout. The quote on it is pretty awesome too- 'Witchery is merely a word for what we are all capable of- Charles de Lint'

Thank you habitat-lady!

Got my first bookmark *squee*

This one is from Jessysihk.  Beauty in simplicity and I love lotus flowers. Thanks  ;D

Bookmark #2  from 1watermonkey.  It's my first fabric bookmark and i'm in love.

Bookmark #3 from Amber565.  (Sorry for the shotty pic but I have to use my webcam until my camera is fixed.)  The braided one is a pretty lavender with black stitching and the wire one has white pearly beads. Both are beautiful.  Thanks again Amber.

Bookmark #4 from Bewara (again sorry for the horrid pic)  This pic does not do it justice! Love it!

This is the last of the bookmarks.  These are from YumJello01.  I love the scrap marker, it's a receipt from "99 xpress" The other lovely one is very nightmareish.

Can't wait to see what else I get.

Had fun crafting and swaping with my group.  Hope to swap with you all again.  ;D

Aaaaaand, this'll be my unofficial entry.
Here's the one I received from PureOath (again, go go gadget The Phantom Tollbooth):

It's adorable! Thanks, PureOath!

Here's the one I received from HippieKender..... I love Halloween, so I got an awesomely colorful, seasonally appropriate bookmark!

Thanks, HK!

This one's from Cassiecate57. I LOVE THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS.

It says, "My, what a brilliant nose you have!"
Thanks, Cassie! It's too cute!

This is from squire_inaria. It's on Halloween cardboard. The front view has Jack Skellington pondering on his hill, and the back has my fave quote from Willy Wonka, "We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams."

Thanks, squire_inaria! It's so cute and I can't wait to use it!

ACK! I received the kewlest Edward Scissorhands from habitat_lady today!

She drew it herself! I. HEART. EDWARD. SCISSORHANDS. For reals, yo. Thanks, habitat_lady! I adore it!

And this little cutie I received from Tero. It's got a owl! My husband remarked about how appropriate that was for me. Thanks, Tero! I love it!

HippieKender's Unofficial Gallery Spot

From PureOath - The clipped corners remind me of Battlestar Galactica. They are magnetic.  Thank you, PureOath!

From PollyPrissyPants - Pac-Man and ghosts (Blinky, Inky and Clyde perhaps?) made of felt.  Thank you PollyPrissyPants! :D

From Tero - a "hookmark" with flowers and butterflies on the metal part and butterfly beads and charm on the dangle.  I love it (and so does my kitten; he tried to steal it :D )  Thank you Tero!

From cassiecate57 - I got not 1 but TWO adorable robot bookmarks inspired by my wists!  PLUS, I got a lovely flower sitcker (and it's 3D).  Thanks so much cassiecate, I love them! (Oh, and I think you are a "draw-er" ;) )

From Squire_Inaria - a wonderful pirate themed bookmark!  It's a lovely map with a pirate boat :) I think this is absolutely wonderful, thanks so much!

It says "That's what a ship is, you know. It's not just a keel and a hull and a deck and sails, that's what a ship needs but what a ship is... is freedom."  Yay POTC, love it!

I am loving all the bookmarks. It's so interesting to see all the different ways people have made them. :D :D

As a side note, those pictures really made me want to read the Phantom Tollbooth again. It was one of my favorite childhood books and it has been too many years since I last reread it. :)

Teehee, mission accomplished! I reread it every few years or so. I appreciate the figurative language now that I just didn't understand as a sixth grader (which was a LONG time ago and the first time I'd read it.).

The Phantom Tollbooth is one of my all-time favorite books.  I had a copy as a kid that I read so many times, the binding came apart.  There's a charity here that collects books for foster kids for holiday presents and every year I donate a copy of that.

:)

I received my 1st swap bookmark last night from JessySihk! It is so cute! The bookmark is reinforced fabric that has a hand embroidered octopus on it. What might be hard to see from the photo is that the bookmark was then quilted with machine stitching.  There's a lot of work that went into it! Even the adorable blue bubble fabric that matches perfectly was chosen with care. You may now be jealous  ;D

these bookmarks have all been really really awesome! I can't wait until my partner gets hers, just to know if she likes it ..... nervous! Although, when i sent it, I found that sending soft, light, squishy things within the same country cost twice as much as sending about the same size to the U.S. Canada Post is on my Hate List.

That octopus bookmark is the cutest!

I had lunch with Tero this afternoon at a local health food and sandwich/smoothie shop. It was absolutely delicious.
I totally forgot to bring my camera to take pictures of the meet-up, but took pictures of the bookmarks as soon as I got home.

She got my tastes totally perfect! (And even brought me some of the best ephemera for the Sketchbook Project!)

The hand-stamped card is one of the best I've ever seen. So many mushrooms! The bookmark with the little owl bead is my favorite. Owl Jolson, as he will now be lovingly referred to, is going in my copy of When You Catch an Adjective, Kill It. I also love the ichthus bookmark. It's going in my copy of What Not to Say: Philosophy for Life's Tricky Moments.

Thanks Tero! It was so fun finally getting to meet up with you. Next time I promise I won't leave my purse in your car and make you drive all the way back to where I live to get it to me.  :-X ::) :-*

1. I have a feeling Tero would do it whether you're partnered or not...I hear a personal swap calling :)

2. I am loving this gallery so far. :)

3. I'm finally gonna start my bookmarks tonight! I have about 15 to make...between the unofficial and official. I'm jazzed. I'm waiting for magnets to come but I'll start with cutting out paper and whatnot.

I crocheted around bone rings and stitched them together.  I got the idea from a necklace on your wists hippiekender.  I'm thinking of making a statement necklace for myself now.

Here's the link to the description of how Lavender Field on Etsy makes her necklaces from hippie's wist.

I just love this method.

A friend of mine once pointed out that the PO handles a ridiculous amount of mail each day - the amazing thing isn't that things get damaged or lost, but that MORE things don't get damaged or lost.

Doesn't help when something goes missing or damaged.  :(  That sucks about the bookmark.

(this is my unofficial post)
OH, NO!

I'm sure it was lovely, Andrea.

I received today from Andrea (pollyprissypants) and I love it.

The quote says, "Outside of a dog, a book is man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read. -Groucho Marx"

And here's my action shot :)

(I'm reading The Heart is a Lonely Hunter)

And here's a pic of my mark from PureOath (it looks lovely and is magnetic).

I received from HippieKender and it's friggin' awesome. It's the Portland city skyline (I haven't lived here long enough to pick anything out...maybe next year ;) ) with a nice little silver beaded dangle. It's in copy of e.e. cummings' complete works.

I received a few days ago from squire_inaria. It's a lovely geisha with one of my favorite quotes on it. "Be patient and tough, someday this pain will be useful to you."

(It's in Only Revolutions, I am so excited to start it!) Thank you, Sara. I love it. It's sturdy and simple. Just my taste :)

Oooh I just received from Tero (and yours finally(!) went out today in the mail). It's a kawaii fawn with a purple tassle. I am choosing to tell myself it's a My Little Pony and I wrap it's luscious mane around the fawn. Obviously, I love all of it. You are awesome, Tero.

Received from habitat-lady. She drew me some dynamic waffles. It's awesome! I just started a list of "facts" about Freemasons so it's guarding those facts. The pictures are kind of crappy but the waffles are laminated with a gold tassel. They are very cool!

I saw the new challenge (Craft Challenge #54 - Pencil and Crayon Hoopla) and followed the ideas and this link was listed.
 http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/site/mslo/menuitem.0e0eb51a2e6b5ad593598e10d373a0a0/?vgnextoid=34b12e912b11f010VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&autonomy_kw=crayon%20hearts&rsc=ns2006_m1

When it says to use the shavings sparingly, use them very sparingly.  I didn't realize how much it melted. Oh and use a few layers of copy paper, it bleads through but it does make pretty paper.  ;D

Wow, I did that as a kid. Waaaay back in the day. Like, early 80's I used to make "kaleidoscope" pictures with my crayon shavings all the time. Neat to see it again.

Guess who received from Stellou? Me! (or rather, my hubby!) I let him open the envelope and everything! :) I will get pics up as soon as I find my adapter (things are a bit jumbled from going on vacay last week)...but he was so excited, I had to post. One was an embroidered fabric one and one was a tatted one. They are perfect, and he loves them!

We originally signed up for this swap becuase my hubby is always saying: I want someone to send ME crafts! So after he opened them up and we took pics, etc, I asked if it was as exciting as he thought it would be and he replied all matter-of-factly: "...oh yeah."

So I'll get pics up as soon as possible. Stellou, if you have pics feel free to post if you want to! Thanks!

I received from Homerof2 and Blupaisan on the same day late last week and just got the pics uploaded this morning.  I love them.  From Homerof2, I received an adorable crossstitched apple bookmark , and from Blupaisan, a beautiful fruits/veggies inspired watercolour bookmark - both are so pretty!

Thank you both so much, they will both be well loved!

I received these two lovelies from Stellou today! I love coming home to mail. :D

The first is a tatted flower, along with my previous bookmark (ticket stub from Toy Story 3!) in "A Million Little Pieces" by James Frey.

The second is an awesome pieced fabric bookmark, tucked into my favourite book - "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" by Jonathan Safran Foer... I just started reading it to my boyfriend this weekend. Actually, I think it was one of the first things we did after we officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. After I read him some Dr. Seuss, hehehe. How cute is that? ;)

Thanks stellou, they're awesome! I can't wait to start using real bookmarks again! (I also can't wait to finish up and send!)

So many beautiful and unique bookmarks! I received from Fontiua and will post pics this evening after work. Very Starry Nightish and I love the textures she created. Thanks again Fontiua! You're my first! LOL

Wow those copper bookmarks are amazing.. and built to last! They'll be a family heirloom for many readers to come. I just might have to request a private swap  ;)

Stellou - you did a beautiful job with the bookmarks, they ones you sent to Beckashell match the book beautifully!

I received a package from Amber565 yesterday and it contained a pretty card she made, a really cool woven ribbon bookmark that I think is fascinating and last but not least, my most favorite piratey bookmark I've ever had! (and I've had quite a few!) Not only is it pirate themed, but it's also brown which is a big WIN. I love it! Thank you Amber!

and now for the eyecandy!

Thanks - It was easy matching Enid Blyton as she is one of DH's favourites and I am discovering them with my two boys this very moment (though I must confess I haven't read the wishing chairs as yet)

So many beautiful bookmarks so far...I love the copper bookmarks in particular..thisis such a great swap - YAY for the ace organisers ;D

I have received 3 packages of awesomely perfect bookmarks!

First bookmark from rosie1981:

So perfect and ME, I love the fabric bookmark! (In The Gunslinger, rereading b/c I'm about to organize a Dark Tower swap!)

From 1watermonkey I received:

This great long thong bookmark, with beadies and shrinky dink charms:

I love that it's long, it's perfect for hardbacks (seen here in Under the Dome)

From amber565, not one, not two, but THREE bookmarks!

The one on the left was her first attempt, and she wound up not liking it, but sent it because it's still totally usable!  And a great braided ribbon one, it's stretchy!

Here in Bel-Ami is a sweet bookmark, the background is shiny silver, so it's a little hard to take a pic of, but it's great blue stars with sparkly pink insides!

I love all my bookmarks, and I still have books I'm reading that are in need of bookmarks!  Can't wait to receive from JessySihk and Bewara!

I got three bookmarks i nthe mail this week! I feel a wee bit spoiled :)

Onyxnox made me TWO bookmarks! the ribbons with flower and teh woodburned cullen crest (one of her first woodburned images! pretty spiffy, eh?). Homerof2 maybe the very sweet and sparkly crochet butterfly which is currently living in my copy of the Time Traveller's wife as I read it for the 4th time and blupaisan made the very sweet kitchen themes bookmark which i am going to laminate so i can keep it in my cookbooks without fear of spatters :)

Ok, let's try this again. :-[

I received two bookmarks today!

First from pixiefirefly a neat two-sided, Japanese themed one. It's really cool and I love the details and the crystals on the tassel.

And from lelila a cool metal one with green accents. I love the green because I'm a May baby and emerald is May's birthstone. It's a favorite color of mine!

Thank you so much to both of you! ;D

One of the great things about the bookmark swap galleries is the fact that, while everyone's making the same thing, there's an amazing variety of styles.  Very fun and inspirational!

That being said, I would like to share the first bookmark I've received, a multilevel, multilingual mouse marker, made by cassiecate57:

Here's a closeup of the beady bits:

I love how the blue bead is a little mouse with white felt ears and long plastic tail.  Thanks much, cassiecate57 -- I love it!  :D

Well, I cleaned off my desk today and found my camera cord! LOL! So here are the pics of the bookmarks that Stellou sent!

This one is done in Sashiko style:

This is the tatted one, she said she did it in white because I told her it was my husband's favorite color...and it was perfect! He loves it and is totally fascinated by the tiny detail!:

And  closeup:

Thanks Stellou again! They are beautiful! He loved them both!

Love the copper ones and mousey.

I love the zombie! Is he embossed?

The zombie is a papercut. You can't see the details really well in that photo because of the glare. I flooded the top of him with super shiny glossy lacquer and left the background paper lightly sprayed with matte acrylic to protect it. So he's pretty un-photogenic lol.

Wow!! thanks you all for the great compliments on my bookmarks!  ;D

What is "flock"ing? I could google but I'm here more than there... :)

Flocking is a powdery fiber that's similar in feel to lint. If you've ever seen paper that is velvety or gotten little plastic animals that feel furry - they have been flocked. You lay down glue (I use either plain old white glue or Mod Podge, but pretty much anything works) then apply the flocking powder like you would glitter. I press it down a bit, then when dry tap off the excess.

I love the zomebie bookmark.  Is that duct tape?

He's just made with colored card stock & decorative paper. The base green paper I used has a nice linen texture that really popped with the glossy accents coating. It was a happy fluke :)

So far I have posted these in the wrong place...twice! Here, one more time, are the bookmarks I received from Dawn0684 and Pollyprissypants. Also, I now realize that the pictures are too big. I am, as my son would say, a newb. However, as I have said before (in two other posts) they are both lovely. I am amazed at how different everyone's entries are--so creative. Thank you both.

I received from Michela this morning, a lovely bookmark using green jasper because my love of foresty/natural colours, and I made a request for anything with a sense of snarky humour, with an evil twist - which she interpretted as monkeys, so it has a monkey charm.  That made me laugh, so well done!

Here it is in active rotation with my copy of Jayne Slayre, which is my current read, especially now that I am 99% done my current swaps.

I received my fabulous awesome package from MiLady. She is a fantastic partner and I'm so lucky to have gotten her. She sent me SO much stuff and has really spoilt me rotten.
Okay on to the goodies
She sent me 2 lovely cards, a fabric bookmark with a cute little robot (I agree, the robot is awesome and unique, much better than a flower) and a crochet bookmark with 2 hearts (MiLady is so talented, I just started learning how to crochet yesterday). This was all wrapped up in gorgeous fabric with an even more gorgeous ribbon. Then for souvenirs, she sent me a large stick lolly (I don't know it's name) but it did get broken, but it still looks alright and I'm sure will taste lovely. I also scored a postcard depicting the public transport system (if I ever get to England, I'll at least be able to travel some of it on train hehe), a large sticker, visitors map, a guide to her town, a magnet, a tourists bookmark and a badge. Phew now I've typed all that out lol, onto the pictures of the fabulous stuff.

This was such a fantastic parcel to receive and I thank MiLady so so so so so so so much for spoiling me so well.

I'm so glad you like them, I received yours this morning, I'll grab my camera from my bag when I find it (went out last night teehee). The lolly is known as a stick of rock, traditionally they're sold at the seaside in the UK and brought back as gifts when people have been on holiday. I hope your crocheting goes well, I actually made another one of these that was ready to post and it got bought off me at work! So yours is the second improved one! The postcard depicts the grid system in Milton Keynes, I think those are the bus routes, but the post card is made to look like the london underground map, it's a relatively new town/city and was entirely based on americas grid system except with a whole tonne of roundabouts. We're not allowed to be known as a city because we don't have a cathedral, we've applied for city status several times and failed and yet it's unofficially known as "the city of trees". :D just a little bit of trivia there for you.

The ladies in the tourism shop were really helpful and kept giving me more stuff to send you, so much so that they even gave me a bigger envelope in order to fit it all in  :D

I hope you liked yours. I looked at the map of your town and immediately thought of Melbourne - it's got almost the exact same layout. I thought the postcard was something to do with public transport because trains are done like that here.
I've got a piece of trivia in my phone that mentions cities are only cities with a cathedral, and there's something about villages being villages if they have a church, and if they don't they're a hamlet I think.
I was shocked you sent me so much - felt bad I didn't send as much but our visitors' centre just doesnt stock that kind of stuff and if they do, it's exorbitantly priced.
I was surprised you made two bookmarks - I felt uber spoilt hehe.

Here is side one of the marker Michela made for me. I let thistles grow wild in my yard, much to the annoyance of my neighbors, where the seeds blow over!
Side two is thusly -

It is the Queen's summer residence, and she is in it when the shot was taken by Michela herself. I got very wistful upon seeing these Scottish photos, as I went to school over there and still miss all the fabulous scenery.  Thank you so much, Michela.  I love it!

But this week has been a whirlwind and this has been the only opportunity I've had to upload my photo, I'm sat on the sofa, bowl of cereal on my left, hair dryer in my right hand and on here typing LOL. This is the lovliness that was my parcel from mod35tbabe. How classy is that bookmark? I adore those tiny scissors and she sent me some pamphlets and a keyring from her tourism office too. I am obsessed with snowflakes and LOVE the keychain.

I thought the tiny scissors were just awesome - I bought a pair for myself hehe. I'm so glad you liked it. I nearly bought a snowman keyring instead but decided I liked the snowflake better - rather glad that's the one I chose now.

I have received two sets of bookmarks so far.

The first ones are from blupaisan (one for me and one for my hubby.)  The flower one is sssoooooo gorgeous!

And the second ones are from onyxnox (again, one for me and one for my hubby.)  My favorite of these two is the snowman one she cross stitched for me.  I know it will get lots of use!

I have just spent the last hour catching up with the gallery - I have not managed to take a look since page 2!! I have had a fantastic, but crazy, few weeks and whilst I have been working on my bookmark, I have not managed to get on the computer much. Life has now calmed a little and my bookmark is winging its way to Germany as I type!

The gallery is just amazing - it never fails to surprise me the variety that appears within a theme! They are all amazing, but the copper ones really stood out - and the beaded ones are all beautiful. But my favourite so far has to be the Mario one - I love it! So cute.

Recieved today from squire_inaria and Pogo!

From squire_inaria, the lovely belly dancer bookmark!  She used a delicious, velvety paper and a beautiful belly dancer:

From Pogo, a delightful Luna Lovegood quote mark, and a gorgeous beaded mark with my three favorite colors (purple, black, and silver) and keys!

And here it sits, in my current read:

Thank you so much, ladies!  You are very talented crafters, and awesome swap partners - I love them all!  :)

Just received some more wonderful bookmark-y goodness! Andromeda007's came with the regular mail and then just when I thought I was done for the day I received Pogo's! They are absolutely gorgeous!

First is Andromeda007's bookmark. It was inspired by one on my wist. I am in complete awe of the picture transfers she did on the muslin squares.

And closeups of the pictures.

Pogo sent two bookmarks. The first is purple (my favorite color) with moons and stars (I follow the goddess Arianrhod) with some of my favorite quotes on it.

The second is beautifully beaded with a faery sitting on a moon.

They are all beautiful! Thank you both!!!

2 Things.

1. AWESOME bookmarks. I love the paperclips (but I'm too Type A about my books to crease them with clippies)

2. Here's an official announcement: SENDOUTS HAVE BEEN EXTENDED (SORT OF).
Monday the 6th (Labor Day in the US) is a post office holiday. Sunday is the 5th (also no mail). If you send by the 7th with good communication, you're golden.

Received from the first time swapper Andromeda007, who made a FANTASTIC bookmark!
She made this gorgeous cloth bookmark decorated with images printed on muslin.
The images are vultures (love them) and a favorite Poe quote: "All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream".

Thanks for matching the bookmark so perfectly to my likes Andromeda007!

I'm so glad you like your bookmarks, Pogo and squire_inaria!  I was dreadfully nervous, with this being my first swap and all, but now that the both of you have received and are happy it feels great!  I hope the others receive soon, too :)

Since you both were interested in the image printing I did on the muslin, the link to the tutorial I used is posted in my blog (which I just started, thanks to this swap, actually - lol!).  Still working on a better title for it, but it works for now, I guess.  The link for my blog is in my signature.

I'm so glad you both like them - I can't wait to make more!  :)

I received THREE super awesome bookmarks this week! One's unofficial, and will be going on my unofficial post. The two official ones are here:

I received this one from nllchihuahua. I love Halloween (the holiday, not the movie!) so I got a really cute spooky bookmark! It's perfect for the season!

And I got this one from craftsunderground! I had a quote from Willy Wonka on my questionnaire, so she went with chocolate! This is made from mini Mr. Goodbar and Hershey bar wrappers, gum wrapper chain style!

They are both awesome! Thanks, guys!

I received an amazing package from Myrdda! I can honestly say that its one of my favorite swap packages of all time, because I just love everything in it so much!

First, the bookmarks she made:

And on top of that, the FIVE bookmarks she bought:

We also agreed to swap books. I was expecting a nice paperback novel or something. Instead, I get this:

Which opens up to this:

Yup, she made me my own herbal grimoire, including finding and printing all the information in it! I absolutely love it to death! I've been wanting a book like this for awhile, but this is far better than anything I could have bought!

A close up of the title page:

And of the back, which has blank pages for sketching the plants or adding my own notes:

I received an adorable Sneetch bookmark from beckashell - here it is inside my first edition copy of The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins! ;)

She also included some goodies for future bookmark making, I can't wait to turn the Moomin tag into a bookmark for my Moomin books! :)

Apologies for the poor quality photos; my camera is... somewhere, so these were taken in Photo Booth on my comp!

Second:  A couple people mentioned The Phantom Tollbooth earlier in the gallery.  You may be interested to know that the author and illustrator have collaborated again:

Myrdda! That's an awesome package! I don't know exactly what a grimoire is but that book is awesome for collecting plants and stuff. It seems like something Ayla would use (Clan of the Cave Bear nerds, holllllllaaaa!).

Wonderful package!

I have finished my unofficial markers, made a few screwups and kept them for myself (because I'm less picky), made a bookmark for my boyfriend. It's been a bookmarky day. Everything'll be out in the mail Tuesday, it's all stamped and stuff.

I received an AWESOME Portland skyline fabric marker from HippieKender. I hope she likes the one(s) I'm sending as much as I liked hers that she sent! Unofficial post will be updated. . .somewhere back in the depths of the gallery.

The only person I would like to hear from right now is IronyandParadox. Everyone else seems to be ticking along. In the next few days, if you've sent to all and received from all, lemme know (I'm trying to keep up!) and I'll update feedback as we go.

From the Official Swap, I received from blupaisan, homerof2, and michela.  Thanks to all of you.

blupaisan sent a lovely bookmark in honor of the trees.  Very fitting for my big book of Organic Gardening.

Homerof2 crosstitched Tulips. One of my favorite flowers.  Did you order this thin plastic?  I looked at Michaels and Hobbly Lobby for some of this.

Michela made this awesome bookmark.  The beads and charms are perfect. Love the colors.

Unofficial Bookmark Swap

Pollyprissypants a felt bookmark with trees and flowers.

From Pureoath a nifty magnet bookmark.  Very creative thinking!

Two from Hippiekender.  One in use with moon and stars, and an awesome origami corner marker.

Very cool and many thanks!

Here is a lovely bookmark from Squire_inaria with celestial bookmark love.  The quote is "There they stand, the innumerable stars. Shining in order like a living hymn, written in light."
It's beautiful and thank you so much.

And from Cassiecate57, a polkadot delight corner bookmark, rocking a wonderful Vonnegut phrase,
 "So it goes."

I do love that paper!  Thank you, Cassiecate!

And Correlating - I missed your envelope this morning when I grabbed the stack to mail.  It will go out tomorrow. MAILED!

Received from a beautiful bookmark from Tero today with beads and an awesome moon charm.  This swap is like never-ending Christmas!  Tero, thank you; I love it.

I also received from HippyKender.

Thank you ladies for some beautiful bookmarks!  I hope my marks find their way to their destinations soon, I'm worried they're lost in the mail.  I'll start working on some replacements soon.  Too bad I didn't photograph before I sent.  :-(

Just poppin' in to say hey and admire the lovely completed bookmarks. That tree one with the construction paper is really neat! I love it. And I want to learn to use those metal grommet-thingys to make my bookmark holes more sturdy.

As I was addressing my unofficial envelopes today, I noticed PureOath and Tero both live in LA. So I googlemapped the locations. Thirty minutes apart! That's really neat!

Anyway, I'll get the rest of mine out in the mail tomorrow. Except there might be one person I forgot about. I'll check my records tonight. If I have forgotten someone, I'm on vacation for the next week (after I make it through tomorrow) so I'll have plenty o' time to update Craftster and make bookmarks :)

This is one with my favorite quote by Neil Gaimon

And this is a religious one. The front is Lugh (my patron God) with a background of musical notation that is very fitting any Druid bookmark:

And the back is a prayer to Lugh. The whole thing is really beautiful...thank you so much :)

Without any further ado, here are the bookmarks I've received so far. I love them all! We have such creative people here at Craftster! Thanks!

From phoenixfiredesigns:

A wooden bookmark painted shiny red and embellished with red roses and the word "bloom." Roses are my favorite flower.

From lelila:

A metal bookmark with some lovely red and black beads and a beautiful rose charm. Love this style of bookmark!

From Pixiefirefly:

A decoupage bookmark with lots of red and black and white and tons of ribbons. One side shows photos of some of my favorite authors and books. There's also another red rose. The opposite side has a picture of and quote by Eleanor Roosevelt.

You all really spoiled me on the red roses! THANKS to everyone for my lovely bookmarks. They are all headed to various paperback and hardcover "homes!"

I just got home from vacation in Toronto, Canada and waiting in my mailbox were these 2 great bookmarks from YumJello01! I love the look on the octo's face and the colors are wonderful! The bonus bookmark makes me hungry.. I can almost smell the chocolate. I also like that it's recycled art! Both are laminated with heavy-duty laminate and will be used for many years to come!

Thank you YumJello01!

Hooray!  We love the look on the octo's face too!  He was hard to send off.  And it's hard to tell in pics but I had the most fun with the M&M bag because the little cutting board that came with my laminator (thank you, bookmark swap, for an excuse to buy one FINALLY!) had a straight blade AND a wavy blade, and I just had to use the wavy blade to do the "torn" corner of the bag, haha.

I'm glad you like it. It was hard to put it in the mail :)

it's fantastic!!

is the image a real soda wrapper?

I think so. I got it in a fill-a-mailer swap. I had a ton of vintage stuff. Old canned fruit labels and the like. So I'm guessing it's legit. :)

I finally am getting around to posting the bookmark I got from fontiua a few weeks ago. Im sorry it took so long to post. My whole house is totally turned upside down from a basement remodeling/finishing project that has been going on since early July. I have been so tired that in my off time from working on the basement, I either go to work or sleep lol. Then I couldnt find the little cable thingy to plug my camera into my computer (been looking for that for a week  ::))

Anyway... on to the pic

I love it! Thanks fontiua!! I cant wait to see the rest of mine and to hear my partners reactions to theirs :)

I am awed, inspired and humbled by the talent I see here - i think I need to go to bookmark school for training!

I received 2 cute, adorable, and wonderful bookmarks from 6craftycats! I love them!

I now have from fontiua and 6craftycats! Thank you ladies!
Oh - all of mine are out - don't mind the pouches - the post office had me reinforce the bubble bags - bendy test? She says they do it and can ruin fragile paper crafts inside - I hope they all get where they are going in one piece!!!

I received! From 2 partners, on the same day! Without further ado:

This is the card fluffypants sent with her bookmark. I thought it was so hilarious:

It says   and now...an illustrated Palindrome. Then the cartoon says Won ton? Not now! Hahahaha. Love it.  Oh yeah. She sent a pretty sweet bookmark too! Here it is:

Batman! So many skills that I don't have went into this: Resin, Sewing, Grommet thingy....so cool. And the back view:

With this colorful backing, the whole thing gives off a "Saturday Morning Cartoons" vibe, which hellooooo, is awesome! Thanks fluffypants!

And here are the 2 (yes, two!) clip-on bookmarks from darkangelwingz:

The one says "Be Yourself" and the other says "Laugh". And both have stars on them!  Thanks a ton! I love this clip on style...they'll definitely stay in place!

Ok, I could say I saved the best for last.....I really LOVED all my bookmarks!!!  Finally getting the stars in alignment, and phone working for photos (I just wanted to get them up, so sorry for the poor quality!)  The pix do not do them justice...

SO:
#1 I received 2 beautiful marks from Onyxnox.  One is a long length of ribbon with a cute flower at the top, and beads in the center- great for larger books!  The other is GORGEOUS- beautiful fabric with flowers and ribbon  with the smallest little dragonfly button I've ever seen....LOVE IT!  Thank you - they are precious.

#2 From blupaisan.  A red and white mark with hand drawn, art nouveau designs all around and my initial on the bottom.  What fantastic drawing!  And red is my fave color- right on the money, blu!  Thank you.

#3 From homerof2- the most wonderful little crocheted butterfly, in (of course) RED!!  fabulous!!  so dainty and whimsical.  Thank you so much

#4 from habitit-lady- a corner mark with a hand cut butterfly (notice a theme? I am so happy!!) It is so nice, but unfortunately the Post Office got to it before I did, and there was a little dangle of some sort that was crushed in the process...I think I can find a worthy replacement, though :)  Many thanks, habitat!

#5 from Michela - a hook mark with red square beads (look like shell, maybe?) and small elegant crystal spacers in between.  At the end is a 'LOVE' charm.  Too cute!!  Lovely work, Michela!  Thanks

I love all my marks, and to my happiness and surprize, they are all different!  Now to get on my books- currently reading 'The Help' by Kathryn Stockett....off to read, and thanks again to all my partners....so sorry about the late posting.  :)

The back: Henry David Thoreau~ "It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."

Lelila, Pink and hearts two of my most favorite things in the world.

I received 3 bookmarks today, 2 simple-but-elegant thong/tassel markers from DarthSqurl and one fun paper collage from Rainbowsaurus.

Here's an "action shot" of the gold tassel bookmark from DarthSqurl:

Here's a closeup, the better to appreciate the cute little orange button:

Here's a closeup of the bauble atop the purple thong marker from DarthSqurl:

And here you can see the bottom bits as well:

I love the little silver eye bead and, of course, the wee little key.  (One of my theme suggestions was "skeleton keys.")  Thanks, DarthSqurl!!!

"Circus sideshows" was another of my theme suggestions, so I got a double-sided collage of vintage freak-show images from Rainbowsaurus.  Here's the front:

And here's the back:

(FYI, it's inside The Bibliophile's Devotional.)  Thanks, Rainbowsaurus -- this is right up my midway alley!!!

Here is the bookmark that I received all the way from Austrailia, courtesy of KnittingJo, who also included a Freddo Frog chocolate (which didn't last long).

On the back it has a rhyme:
Four stiff standers
Four dilly danders
Two lookers
Two crookers
And a wig wag.

Thanks Jo!

Received another gorgeous tree from jungianwanderer!
The lovely tree is double-sided, done with watercolor then laminated.

It's been put into immediate use in my very fascinating "Games Mother Never Taught You: Corporate Games-Manship for Women" (published in 1977).

Thanks jungianwanderer!

I love all these different bookmarks. The watercolored one is just beautiful! I never realized how many styles bookmarks could come in!

:-\ I'm hoping my bookmarks make it soon - we had some flooding downtown during the Hurricane/Tropical Storm/Depression that lit down on TX and flooded some of our library and post office, so I'm hoping my bookmarks made it out before the floodwaters made it in.

I had two lovely bookmarks waiting for me in my mailbox today!  The first one is a lovely belly dancer from jungianwanderer:

the front

and the back

Pretty incredible, yes?

I also received this very clever riddle bookmark from Knittingjo!  The riddle side first:

the riddle says:

Old Mother Twitchett has but one eye,
And a long tail which she can let fly,
Every time she goes over a gap,
She leaves a bit of her tail in a trap.

The answer:

My husband got a good kick out of this one :)  She also sent a tasty, adorable little Koala which I named Sammy... sadly, all that is left of Sammy is this photo and a memory.  A very tasty memory...

Thank you, ladies, for the awesome bookmarks and for being such amazing partners!

I <3 Jack!!

The only thing that happened to it is the clear lamination sheet on top came off. The back is still on it, but the edges are a little sticky. (you can see a little of the top clear sheet in the pic) But, the edges aren't sticky enough to reattach the top (and I don't think they are wide enough). Any ideas on reattaching?

I received the last two bookmarks from my group today and yesterday, from habitat_lady and onecrazymom.

Here is the one that I received from onecrazymom, very pretty with Asian patterned paper and a lovely stamp detail.

And the one from habitat-lady, done in a dog theme in a very pretty blue colour.  I especially love the scrabble tile done with the bone design on the back.

Thank you to everyone in my group - Homerof2, blupaisan, Michela, habitat-lady, and onecrazymom, all the bookmarks will be well used and appreciated, and thank you cassiecate57 for organizing.  It has been really inspiring seeing all the different craft styles incorporated into such a simple thing.

I came home from school in such a foul mood, coming in and directly complaining to the DH how people were stupid, and if I were as callow and immature as the kids just fresh at college as I saw today, I'd poke myself in the eye with a hot french fry .... and he pulls out the highly anticipated package from Willowe! I was so happy! My three year old started singing the 'we just got a letter' song from Blue's Clues, so I even had theme music. She wrote such a sweet letter, and I feel so completely spoiled! Sorry for the crappy pics, but I'll try to explain them and express how happy I am!  ;D

I do NOT own this book - but between my husband and I, we have all the rest. I love complete sets!

another sideways photo, but it is what it is today. This shows the very pretty fairy bookmark she purchased for me in the most amazingly cool book diary where I can write down the books I've read, my thoughts and impressions, and just to keep track of them - ALPHABETICALLY, even!

how cool are bookplates?!?! SO COOL! I'm having a big decision as to which books deserve the bookplates!

this is one of the very lovely bookmarks Willowe made for me - and I really like it! Purple is one of my favorite colors, and amethyst is one of my favorite stones. This really is so sweet and elegant, and I love the way it sits in the book!

and what, by the Seven Little Gods, is this?! a steampunk bookmark, which I Ell-Oh-Vee-EE so very very much!

and here it is hard at work holding my spot in Mansfeild Park, of which I am reading for the ninety-eighth time.

Willowe, you SPOILED me! Thank you so very very very much! I am truly so pleased, and so happy! You are the rockingest of all swappers!

More and more pretties every time I look in the gallery.  (I'm loving that voodoo doll bookmark!)

I have received my final bookmarks, which is awesome!...but sad.  Until next round, though, I'll be enjoying the gallery.  And here are the final additions to my collection.

Crystallized_art sent me a corner bookmark (my first ever, actually), with interchangeable images.  Here's the bookmark in use:

(It's inside The Unwritten, Vol. I:  Tommy Taylor and the Bogus Identity.  I thought it appropriate to pair a sideshow-themed bookmark with an image of a winged cat!)

In this picture, you can see the back of the bookmark, as well as the other three image options:

The little image cards attach to the bookmark with little Velcro circles.  Thanks, crystallized_art!  This was a really creative bookmark style!  (And a girl can never have too many sideshow performers...)

Finally, kittenmittens sent a fanciful twisted-wire clip-style bookmark, shown in a journal (received in another swap, I believe):

Here's a view of the bookmark (very floral and organic, isn't it?) as well as a couple extras (a decorative paper band with perfect bookmark proportions :D and a fragrant glycerin soap):

Thanks, kittenmittens -- it's great!

I already received and posted about my bookmark from Cassie, and I'm here to post up my other four! Sorry it took my lazybones self so long to post these!

I've officially received from everyone in my group, and just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone. This was a great experience, and I've learned at least two very valuable, future swap lessons from it. (One of them my group already knows *cough*, and the other: if you have the stuff done, send it early in case something goes...wrong.)

Here's my most recent haul from the rest of my group:

Individually:
From crystallized_art, some lovely corner bookmarks...

From gossamer_gull, a trio of pretty collage and stamp bookmarks...(I can't help it, this is going to make me sound dumb but...I LOVE the shininess)...

From DarthSqurl, a beaded thread book thong...

and From Rainbowsaurus, a great WOODEN bookmark! Awesome!

Thanks again guys; my first swap experience was great. Now I'm eager to participate in more! <3

First off - there are some amazing bookmarks in this gallery - such variety! I love it.

I received a couple of days ago from the lovely averagefan - and I love everything. We came to an agreement over the books we swapped - easy for me, her english is perfect, not so easy for her - I speak no german!! However, we agreed that I would send her an english book and she would find me a book to use in my crafting - and I am going to have to find something special to do with these!

Onto photos - everything together - the books are a Dr Seuss (I don't think I ever mentioned how much I love Dr Seuss) and a Christmas Elves book, which just has the cutest images.

The bookmarks on their own

And finally one of my new lovelies in my current book - Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert - a total change to all the dark fantasy I have been reading of late!

Thank you averagefan for a fantastic swap - I will think of you every time I use one of my new bookmarks.

Updated my unofficial post (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=356300.msg4183391#msg4183391)

Here's what else I've been hoarding over the last few days while I furiously scan PMs, spreadsheets and threads to see who has received from whom. :)

A lovely package from kittenmittens. I really like the idea of this little metal clip. I'm interested to see how it holds up. I wouldn't dream of using it on my pristine books. But the bulk of my books are from the library so ... ::raspberry:: :D

Because of her shipping nightmare, she enclosed a few little extras for us lucky F-sters. I got some pretty marbled paper (E! Gads! It's a bookmark!) and some soap. I'm anxious to try the soap. I never use bar soap but I will now! What scent is the soap? It smells somewhat familiar.

(placed for aesthetic value in Only Revolutions)

I've gone and mixed everything up into my bookmark collection so I'm not positive but I'm pretty darn sure these marks came from Crystal/crystallized_art. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I'm looking at envelopes and trying to remember what came in each envelope. They're all the same!! They are both from my burlesque theme, both showcasing lovely corsets. One is a corner marker (in another "so you think you wanna be a lawyer"-type book) and the other is a decorated ribbon. It reminds me of a garter, I like that. :) Craftsters, you never cease to amaze me at being able to nail someone's taste, dead-on. On another note, I got a compliment on my little corner corset marker today from a complete stranger. I was like, "Oh, well you should know it's handmade! From Craftster.org, allow me to explain to you!" I am a total missionary for Craftster in my spare time :) And you do B-e-a-utiful work, Crystal! A total stranger loved it :)

The cutie little clippie ones are polkadotts and the Yoda one is angelofmusic  :D

And here's the back of Yoda:

Love love love, already hard at work in American Gods  :D

And this is the one that I sent to ironyandparadox (I hope it's ok for me to post it?)

I'm late in posting receives, and my apologies to my swap partners for my tardiness.  Here is a beautiful bookmark from Onecrazymom.

She nailed me on the greens; I didn't mention it in the Q&A. And I love the quote on it.  Thank you so much!

My last two beautiful bookmarks have arrived! A beaded book thong and quote bookmark from Pogo. The quote "I am not a merry man" is from a Star Trek Nexgen episode where Warf is turned into one of Robin Hood's Merry Men on the holodeck.
From Jungianwanderer I received a hand drawn UFO, complete with little green men inside!

I have received from Darkangelwingz a few days ago (apologies for late pics...It looks like I'm training hard for the Most Desorganised Person of the Month contest :P)
And from Lady Pistola this morning.

Without further ado here are the beauties:

Book clips from Darkangelwings...featured in my Calligraphy book...I really love them

And a magnetic bookmark from Lady Pistola...I noticed that it makes a stupendous music holder to keep my sheets from falling off the stand...

:-* to you both I just adore them!

Okay, I spent a few hours this morning going through the gallery and matching up who's sent to who and received. I have a bunch of holes. Check the first post with the partner info and please look over it. If you've sent/received from someone that I don't have, let's get everything settled. I also sent out a zillion PMs this morning with specific questions so look in your inboxes for stuff from me.

We're just about 2 weeks after sendouts so I'm going to start dealing out negative feedback if you're not answering my PMs. Let me (or squire_inaria or Tero) know your plan for resending, reshipping, receiving, etc. Please and thank you!!

Tero: how did you make that tassle (on my marker)?

Yep, they were from me! I loved the corset ones so much...the only thing I was afraid of was that the ribbon one would be too delicate because the I sewed the paper on. I hope it holds up! I love that strangers are complimenting them! So glad you like them!  :)

It actually came on a very expensive bead that I bought for jewelry making. I knew it was too good to just chunk so I have been holding on to it for a year, waiting for you. :)

Knittingjo, I love the Worf quote on your bookmark. LOL I can so see him saying that in the Robin Hood scene. LOL

Everyones bookmarks are so cool and everyone put such work into them! What a great swap this is/was.

I take NO credit or even praise for any work done in the organizing of this swap. Really, this thing is a monster and took on a life of its own. I took one good look and froze solid. This is all Cassie, I have only answered a few questions here and there. LOL

Hi! I got my bookmark from our swap angel Habitat - Lady! It's really cool! It's the string one with the neat beads on the end. I also included the one I got from Angelof music because I think I forgot to post it. It's the traditional one with the Alice in wonderland saying on it.

Here is also the pictures of the other ones I made. Posting so you can see the one I did for out vanished partner Ironyandparadox (sp?) I was really stoked how that one came out. The pictures don't do the colors justice. It's the one with the ballerina.

Here's the bookmark that I sent to ironyandparadox. Since she went MIA, I thought I'd also show it off to the group. It was a beaded one in the colors she said were her favorites and I included a small bird's nest pendant on one end because she mentioned she liked nature.

The pics aren't the best but at least I can show it off.

ooohhhh I LOVE that fork bookmark !! OK Ladies, I am so sorry that it took so long to post photos. Since I waited so long I will mix them all up here and give you a bookmark visual feast. :)

First my beautiful bookmarks from Pure Oath :)

I love the card almost as much as the bookmarks. :)

Then my bookmark from Rymeswithorange OMG !! I actually squealed when I opened this one...

A crocheted mushroom !! It is so perfect in size and shape. I would have gone blind trying to crochet that small. :)

Next we have amazing goodness from Emeraldcutie, Habitat Lady, SquireInaria

All three of them are PERFECT :)

Then Ms. Pollyprissypants sent me a beautiful moon and stars bookmark. Love it :)

Next HippieKinder blew me away with mushrooms and polymer clay :) Note the tiny bee on the mushroom bookmark. :)

Last but certainly not least out fearless leader spoiled me with a glorious PILE of bookmarks. :)

This swap was so much fun. I love every single bookmark that was made for me. Cassie, you are my hero for organizing such a monster swap !! Thank you so much for all that you have done.

It didn't photograph, but there's this white 'mesh'  in all the 'open' spaces in the bookmark.  I can't figure out how she did the embroidery on mesh, but it's really cool looking (and very sturdy) :P

I came home from holidays to find my last 2 bookmarks waiting for me.

The first was from onecrazymom and she really personalized the bookmark - she used my initials in the beading:

and then she found my city in an old atlas and put a section of the map on the back of the read circle:

The other bookmark was from habitat-lady and she made a manly hand for my husband and also included some handmade paper (not pictured) so that I can make myself a bookmark:

THANKS to both of you for these bookmarks!
