Title: Coffee or Tea Sock Monkey Cup Cozy - with pattern.
Post by: ficklephonebug on August 05, 2010 09:48:50 PM
:D This was sooooo quick!  I want to get a jump on Christmas stuff so I need something that's cute and useful!

( The pattern was free on Ravelry, it's called "George - sock monkey cup cozy" by Alejandra Quiroz, but I can't link to it. :-(  The designers listed web site just takes you to spammy junk.)

But...
This is "loosely" how you do it.....

I would CO  *37 stitches using four size 4 dpn's
knit ST in the round for 10 rows
on the 11th row, I'd do four equal increases (k1, f/b, knit 9, repeat all the way round) something like that.

*The color changes are up to you...

Then do more ST stitches till you have a 3 in tall tube.
B O   Loosely.

*This is how I modified the ears.
Lay your cozy down flat, and pick up 7 stitches on each side...evenly at the point of the first color change....or where ever you think they look cute! (So you don't have to knit them and then sew them on)
K 7
P7
K7
P2tog, Purl 3, SSP (5)
k2tog, k, ssk (3)
BO

*For a bigger mouth:
CO 10 stitches
P all
knit one increase at each end of the row (12sts)
Purl one increase at each end of the row (14sts)
knit a row
Purl a row
Knit one decrease at each end of the row (12sts)
Purl one decrease at each end of the row (10sts)
bind off.

For a small mouth:
CO 6 stitiches
K one increase at each end of the row (8 sts)
P one increase at each end of the row (10 sts)
K one row
P one row
K one decrease at each end of the row (8 sts)
P one decrease at each end of the row (6 sts)
bind off.

Use duplicate stitches to add some red to the mouth, buttons for eyes......

* To add a tail, pick up 4 stitches in the back close to the bottom, or where ever you like, and make an I-cord, change colors for the last 3 rows, BO kinda tight.

I added a tail cause I saw one with a tail and thought it looked fantastic!

That's so cute!
It's cool because you could totally use an actual sock for this too- but it's super fantastic that you knit it instead! :D

I LOVE THIS! It's too cute for words! And my SIL collects monkey stuff, and drinks more coffee than anyone I know. You're right, a perfect Christmas present!
