Oh another vintage themed swap. I'm so in. I need some vintage Christmas items. I have invited my family and my husband's family for Christmas this year and of course it has to be vintage inspired. Will send my Questionnaire shortly!! ;D

Of course it does!  :D  I would love to have enough vintage stuff to just decorate entirely with that -- someday... that's my Christmas dream.  LOL!  So glad to have you in the swap!

Yay!  :D

I just realized that I am a dope (well, I didn't just realize that, but I was reminded of it) -- I forgot to put down additional swap questions such as what you would like to receive, make, favorite eras, etc.  I just added that to the swap info, so if you ladies want to send that info along, feel free.   Sorry about that!

There's a store across the street from our apartment that has a year round sign declaring how many shopping days you have left until Christmas -- today it was 77.  2 1/2 months! Yikes!

That being said... I caved and sent in my questionnaire!  (I still refuse to start buying anything Christmas until Halloween is over! I'm sorry, but that's where I draw my line, lol!)

For some reason, I failed to bookmark this thread!  I have been researching vintage Christmas stuff, and I have to say, some of it brings back memories!  I found a box of cards my mom had saved over the years -- they are AWESOME!  Most of them are from the late 50's and early 60's (yes, I'm old) and I just loved going through them.  Most of them are birthday (which is Christmas eve, btw -- anyone else a December birthday?  SonjaBoo, aren't you a Christmas baby?) and valentines, but a couple are Christmas.  So much fun!

Me too! :D   I want to give people the rest of the day today to sign up -- just in case some are still mulling it over in their minds.  I'll be working on partners this evening!  I am so excited for this swap! Thank you all for being a part of things.   ;D

No, I'm not a Christmas baby -- I'm actually an August baby.  My grandmother was though -- she always loved having a Christmas birthday!

Just so I get this straight, because I've not had to deal with a round robin type swap before, and I want to be sure I'm sending to the correct person...

ntrebleagain (ha - I get it now...duh...more coffee please!) sends to me, I send to Irish_chicky, and Irish_chicky sends to ntrebleagain, right?

Hmm.  I'm not sure what rules are with this -- does anyone know?  I would be willing to make the exception if the folks in the round robin would rather not be in a round robin.  (With no offense to anyone given or taken -- I realize people tend to prefer one partner!) But if you are happy round robin-ing, then we will keep things as is!  PM me with your thoughts.

Hello everyone -- just a quick announcement.  I am going to extend the signup period for this swap until Sunday as I made a bad matchup for our round robin group (we have cat owners and cat allergies together, and I'd rather have everyone comfortable and happy!)  Also, that will probably alleviate the need for a round robin, and everyone can have a single partner again.

The only partners that this will affect will be the round robin group, and any new sign ups.  (i.e. everyone else remains with the partners you have already been assigned, so no worries there at all.)  I have promised our very patient round robiners that I will have things all settled for them by Sunday night, and apologize for any confusion here.

In light of this, if you know anyone who was dying to get in on this swap, let them know they still have an opportunity and should send me their info!  Thank you all!

I might also need the help of a patient soul in this swap who can point me in the right direction for inspiration. :)

I didn't notice a question in the questionnaire about allergens within your home that could affect your recipient's items.  Did I miss that part?

I have a cat and a dog in my house for those who are allergic.

I think there was only a question about things you're allergic to, so she knows who to better partner you up with...and again, irish_chicky, YOU'RE NOT BEING DIFFICULT!!! *threatens to smack you on the head, then runs away, giggling hysterically*

I'm tired...it's been a long day...I'm a little loopy  ::)

Just wanted to say hi to everyone. Seems I just snuck in under the wire in joining this swap. :)

Good crafting to all...and I can't wait to see the gallery.

I have my first project almost done and I'm really happy how it's turned out. I'm not sure yet whether it would be considered a small or medium...but I'll figure that out.

The only bad part about crafting for swaps is I really want to post a picture of what I've done. Though I don't want my swap partners suprised ruined. :)

Hello! I made it in! Can't wait to see the gallery. I had a dream that my partner had already sent me my package, I was so shocked. I have to wait to really get into this till I'm done moving this weekend (hello packing) and get through my first craft show next weekend. EEP! After that it should be smooth sailing.

I've been brain storming, but haven't started anything as that nasty H1N1 got me! I'm waiting until I have time to de-bug the house, so to speak, before doing any crafting so my partner doesn't have to worry about any germs!

I have been brain storming though...oh have I ever been brain storming! *muah-hahahahahahaaaaaa*

You have the option to do 2 meds and 2 smalls or 1 large and 2 smalls.

I'm so glad everyone is in the Christmas spirit!  Though frankly, I can't believe Halloween is already over. This year has flown by.

I was just invited to attend the weekly crafting group at work, so I think this will help me keep on track with getting things done in a timely manner. Not that I'm a slacker, but you know how it is with the holidays!

I am excited though - I think I know what I'm going to make, but I'm still going through some books and websites I have saved for inspiration :)

Happy November, every body!  ;D

I know there are a lot of very creative people that work here, but most of my co-workers don't really like to socialize with each other if they don't have to. So when I was invited to join their group, I was a little surprised! It started as a knitting and crochet group, but has branched to other crafts...which is good, they've offered to teach me how to crochet :) I might get kicked out after that task, but we'll see what happens.

I have ideas a-brewing for my items...*insert evil grin here* I can't wait to get started on them, but I have to go supply shopping first...oh darn  ;)

I'm on the other side of that equation...I'm a returning student! Part of me thinks I'm completely insane for joining any swap right now since I have a research paper due in three weeks, plus work, plus being a mom. Though actually it is kind of nice to spend some time crafting at the end of my day. I use it as a reward to stay on task and get my homework done....if I finish my assignments I get crafting time at the end of the night. :)

Yaaaayyyy! It's about time. ;) (just kidding)

Oh I've been meaning to ask you....is it ok if I work outside of your christmas color scheme for a project? I have an idea for your large but it will only look "christmas-y" if it's done in trad christmas colors (white, green, red). If you would prefer I stick to your color scheme that's OK too since I have another idea I could do as well.

I'm already halfway through one project! It's red and green and totally kitschy and that's all I'll say for now. *g*

I usually prefer softer colors to the traditional red and green, but if you've got a really good idea, go ahead. I don't mind at all. :)

Its given me LOOOTS of time to think about the large I'm getting started on soon. Down to the little tiny details. I'm still here though I need to get crackin' on the crafting. I finished 1 medium so far though. I was hoping to be further ahead but me and my daughter got sick...bleh. So first I have to catch up on school work and then crafting (wish that could be the other way around...but that would be a bad idea...hehe).

Though I think I have all my ideas worked out so all I have to do is execute them...shouldn't be too bad. :)

That's a great idea :)  I stuck just "vintage christmas" into google images, but was coming up with mostly blah stuff. I'm sure etsy would have much more inspirational things.

I'm digging into my large this weekend!  Got a bunch done over the week after the plague left, so hopefully I'll make another big step towards doneness.  Happy crafting this weekend, everybody :)

I am not allowing myself to listen to any Christmas music before Thanksgiving...unless it's playing in a location I have no control over...like the store, or my co-worker's radio at work. Though, I might have to put the Christmas lights up outside since it's so nice out today...beat the cold and rain, you know.

Our family has a tradition that we do not decorate (put the tree up, etc) until either Thanksgiving night or the day after Thanksgiving. Since we have a hockey game Thanksgiving night and I have to work the day after, it will have to wait until the night after Thanksgiving. But when I do, you better believe I'll be breaking out the Andrews Sisters and Bing Crosby! :)

We don't put our tree up until Christmas week.  I don't decorate all that much, either.  I think with all the hype, I just can't take too much of the secular stuff in my house for a long period of time.  Christmas week through New Year's is just long enough!  I have one item nearly finished and thinking on others!

We pick out our tree the Saturday after Thanksgiving. For some reason, we have adopted the tradition of going to eat Mexican food at a nearby restaurant after we've tied the tree to the car. LOL!

We have agreed to not bring anything Christmas related into the house until December. It's everywhere already and I think by the time Christams comes you're bored with it already. Tree doesn't go up until a few days before Christmas but I decorate the house before. I love fairy lights and candles. And Christmas cookies and mince pies of course. It's hard to resist buying it when I go shopping but it'll taste even better in a few weeks.
I have made an exception though and started buying presents already and crafting for Christmas. I must admit I am not as far as I'd like to be on the swap though but I am getting there.
As for Christmas tunes I like them vintage as well. I have a few Christmas CDs that everyone is always making fun of but it adds to the atmosphere. Favourite is Frank Sinatra.

my christmas playlist includes Croon and Swoon: The Classic Christmas, Billboard Greatest Christmas Hits: 1935-1954,  tons of Bing(!) and for your perfect party atmosphere or peppy craft session i STRONGLY suggest all of the Ultra Lounge: Christmas Cocktails collection. SO SO GOOD! and don't forget to be thrifty, go to the library to find them.

I'm a Christmas Eve baby, so yeah, it's kind of in the blood! When I was younger I started listening to holiday songs in October. Now I'm a little more restrained! "Oh Holy Night" is one of my very favorite songs :) I was trying to wait until at least Thanksgiving to start getting hyped up for the holidays, but this swap, plus the new Better Homes and Gardens issue I just got in the mail, are making me get a little excited early!

I havnt been listening to christmas music but last night was out christmas parade and after watching it from out our kitchen window I really felt like watching some old fashioned christmas cartoons. So I did :P Was great, I need to get some more. I use to have more but I wore the taped out and I dunno where to get them now..... The one about the orphanage and the man that comes in and makes them all toys because the ones they got were all cheap.... Oh what was that called Christmas comes but once a year (1936).... it was my favorite... but I dont have it anymore :(

I am not feeling the Christmas music just yet,  I've been crafting to The Libertines and Soundgarden. LOL My favorite Christmas song is The First Noel though. :)

I wish Christmas these days would be like it was back in the day...you know, with the Christmas parades, and the towns all decorated. I am sure there are some cities that do this - I just love the scenes from "A Christmas Story" when the kids are staring at the store display window and when they go to pick out their Christmas tree...oh! of course, the Christmas parade and waiting in the department store to see Santa. I don't know if it's because of the nostalgic feeling the movie evokes or what, but it just seems like that would be the best ever Christmas.

They do have a big tree lighting ceremony in the city I work; I think it's usually Thankgsiving night or the day after, they serve every one hot chocolate, sing carols, light the tree, the huge Santa and Reindeer & wreath display from the 30's or 40's - they used to be on the old Wolk & Dessauer building downtown. http://christmaslights.wikispaces.com/Wolf+&+Dessauer+-+History+of+the+Christmas+Lights

My mom remembers taking trips into town around Christmas just to see the window displays and the lights. Now, they have some of the older displays decorating the Embassy windows, but we no longer have the large department stores like they used to. I'd love to be able to go back in time just to experience a Christmas like that!!!

I've been pounding on the piano and trying to sing some "contemporary" music to see if there is anything I might be tempted to sing in church during advent.  I LOVE all of the old sacred holiday music, though -- just belted out O Holy Night.  My dog was not impressed!  I found one in this contemporary book that is a little on the smaltzy side, but is all about the "birthday!"  I might sing this one Christmas eve, because, like Banga, I'm a Christmas eve baby!

I am happy to say that I've actually completed a couple projects!! I don't know how to classify them - one is definitely a small, but the others, even though they don't seem like much, took me a lot longer than I expected them to...but they're small as well. So...yeah. LOL! But I'm happy I at least have something to show for my efforts this weekend...you know, as opposed to just staring blankly at a pile of supplies, not knowing what to do with it. :D

I just need to think of what to make for the large item...hmm...I know what I'd like to make, but I don't know if I have the time to make it. I always have such grand dreams and scheme! LOL!

i have progress on one small. did some creative experimenting. failed. got tired and packed up my supplies. back to the drawing board.

KimmyLynne82 - I love Christmas Story!  Bing Crosby's White Christmas is another - that whole end scene where they're singing with the big tree & Christmasey dresseses totally invokes vintage Christmas for me.  :)  And memories of my grandparents...

Ok, I plan on doing some shopping for this swap this week.  I've been working on my other two swaps, but not gonna put this one off anymore.   ;D

I LOVE Bing Crosby's White Christmas!  I DVR'ed it last year and watched it one day when my husband wasn't home.  (He doesn't really get the appeal. To me, that is the perfect Christmas!)

And on a business related note ladies -- we now have a gallery!  Post 'em when you get 'em.

This thread has been quiet!  I am nearly finished with my crafting and will begin looking for some vintage goodies to send to Sonjaboo!  Every time I've headed to the thrift store, it's either been closed or there's no place to park!  I'm thinking I will be sending early next week!

At first I was really bummed out because I had NO CLUE what to make...and all the cute vintage stuff I found was purchased; I figured that would defeat the purpose :) (I do plan to stop at the antique store on Monday or over the weekend...I have to at least look!)

BUT - after looking at Miss Melyssa_Marie's wists, I had an epiphany...ha! Get it!? Epiphany...Christmas swap...*tap, tap* Is this thing on??

So, now I'm up to my elbows in a craft project that has spiralled out of control and I'm loving every minute of it! :D I just hope she likes it as much as I do!  :o

Ooh, a Christmas market - that sounds like fun!

Hope you are feeling better!

I am probably going to finish up my last set of projects this weekend/Monday (hooray for a three-day weekend!) and maybe send by the end of the week...don't know about that though. I'm starting to get that festive, Christmassy feeling...just a little bit though!

Is any one else in complete disbelief that Thanksgiving is next week???!!!

Yes and no. The teacher in me is ecstatic because I have all of this week off. Wheeeeeeee!

The crafter in me is freaking out. I have a craft fair on the 5th. My brain is trying to go into Make More Stuff mode, but I'm trying not to overdo it.

The Mom in me is thinking Decorate! We put our Christmas tree up next Saturday. Must dig out decorations! Must make cookies! Must have spiced cider!

So roll all of that up into one big blob and you have Me. I'm happy, frantic and domestic all at the same time. The World is not safe. LOL!

I was totally stunned that Halloween came so fast, let alone Thanksgiving!  I'm totally freaking out about Christmas shopping.  I want to get it over with early this year so I can actually enjoy the holiday!

I am thinking that I won't be sending until next week.  My favorite local crafty store is having a mega sale on Friday, and I know they are going to have some good stuff I will have wished I had added to this package if I send too early.  It's the only Black Friday sale I will go to, and I can't wait! *Looks for sneakers and elbow pads*  ::)

Checking in!  I put together 80% of my one medium.  I have another swap to get out this week, though, so I plan on finishing off this one with the long weekend, after Thanksgiving.   :)

My mini-vent for today - why do Joann's & Hancocks carry such limited supplies of Christmas fabrics?  And then even if you find a few you like, few of them coordinate.  Same goes for Halloween fabrics.  Limited supply & they seem to carry the most random things.  Makes it hard to do patchwork.  Just sayin'...  >:(

I'm still crafting... probably won't get much done this weekend, but I should have plenty of free time after Thanksgiving to finish up.

I'm a little bummed I won't be able to hit the craft stores for Black Friday. Then again, that might be a good thing, I have hard time passing up a good sale (even if it's not something I really need)!

I had the same problem. To most, it probably doesn't seem like enough, but it took me quite a while to put together! A few days, actually...in fact, in between the time it took for things to dry/set/what have you I was able to make a few smaller items...which made me feel a little better :) I am going to sneak out a few minutes early tonight to zip to the post office...definitely will send out tomorrow if I can't make it tonight!

I'm including a couple small extras too, including one authentically vintage (and kitschy) ornament. That's the only teaser I'll give away though.  ;)

I will post out tonight after work if I make it to Mr Postman in time. If not it'll go on it's way to holistic knitter on Wednesday.
And you Lynda get better first. All the best

*** IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ***

I have gotten at least half a dozen emails this week (and it's only Tuesday!) from people who are concerned about sending today due to illness, family issues, holiday recovery, etc.  If it was just one or two people having a delay, that would be one thing -- but it appears to be about half of our group!  So in an effort to help you ladies out, I'm going to extend the mail deadline until Saturday, December 5.  I know it's the pits getting the flu and having a million other things going on, so hopefully this will make things a bit easier.  However, since the deadline is extended, I am hoping that will mean that everyone will be ready and on the ball!   :-*  (And should lightning strike, I am still a reasonable swap leader -- but Saturday is heavily encouraged. ;))

If you have already sent or are sending today, you are awesome and will get a gold star in your feedback!  I appreciate everyone's enthusiasm and hard work!

*** Steps off of soap box ***

You may return to your regularly scheduled swapping!  ;D

*lets out a breath she was holding in* THANK YOU!!!

I work third shift and just got my lazy butt up, lol! This gives me a day to wrap things all purtiful before sending them off. Otherwise it was just going to just shoved in the box and sent! (Not at all festive, but I guess that does tend to happen in this rushed holiday season, lol!)

That warms my little heart!

I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I thought this was a really tricky swap! Not only the theme, but the timing, you know?! I did have fun putting my crafts together and I hope the same is true for the rest of the group...even though I did struggle a bit trying to think of things to make and send.

Happy First of December!  :D

I sent today too. But it was all wrapped and ready to go, so it doesn't matter. Probably a good thing too, as I think I'm coming down with a cold.

thank you for the extension. last night was dedicated to all the messy wet stuff that needed time to cure (thank goodness for a very efficiently blowing in-ground heat vent, saved so much time!) then i had a breakdown over the craft mess that has literally overcome my apartment. so i picked up scraps and junk and vacuumed the pounds of glitter, hot glue strings, general fuzz and various other annoyances out of the carpet and off the couch. it was cute: i managed to get myself, the carpet, couch, and my boyfriend covered in a fine dusting of translucent glitter. how... the world may never know.

I know exactly what you mean! I have two spots where I craft usually and both have trails leading to and from these areas...drives my hubby crazy :)

I managed to coat my cats in glitter, this project.  One cat loved how he sparkled until he got washed.  Then he hated the experience ha.

Yay, I just can't wait to see this gallery fill up! I'm so psyched for Christmas! My hubby just accepted a job that will finally move us back to the east coast (just 3 hours from home!) after 2 years in the midwest, so that's the best gift ever! It does mean I will be so busy finding us a new house and then moving, that I'm not even getting a Christmas tree this year! :( It's ok though, I will enjoy everyone else's.

Hi all!  Just a quick personal update -- we had a death in our family yesterday, so I apologize if I have not responded to your emails in a timely manner.  I will try to pop on and off as much as I can the next couple of days (and hopefully tomorrow morning can post pics of the GORGEOUS package that I received from A2K!!!)  I just want you to know that I am around, but things are a bit distracted here.

I hope you are all enjoying your sending/receiving of Christmas goodies! :D

This is why you're supposed to take pictures of your stuff before you send, which I did not do!  I wish I had now, because that would relieve the pressure!  DO NOT FRET about uploading pictures, Sonjaboo!  My thoughts and prayers are winging their way out to you!

Thank you ladies for your good wishes -- I really appreciate them.  My husband's grampa passed away after a very long illness -- it was an emotional weekend to say the least.

Back to the business at hand however!  Thank you all for holding down the fort in my absence! I see lots of gorgeous items have been sent and received!  We may, however, have a flaker on our hands.  I am trying to sort through those details and will provide more info later, but if this is the case, would anyone be interested in being an angel?  Let me know what you think.

Also, could you all take a quick peek at the sent/received chart on page 1 to see if I appear to be caught up with things?  I am going through emails right now checking out the gallery.  If you have received/sent and I don't have that marked properly, send me a PM please! Muchas gracias. And Feliz Navidad. :D

This word "flake" is such an ugly word!! And mostly because YOU ARE NOT A FLAKE!!!! :)

My husband took yesterday off and when he picked me up from work he casually mentions that I got a package in the mail today...excited, I kind of glance around the car, which he notices, and promptly tells me that he didn't bring it. *pout*

No worries though! As soon as I got home, I raced for the package, then raced for a piece of pizza (hey, a girl's got to eat to keep her strength up for these swaps!) and was on my way to tearing through the package! I believe I actually gasped when I saw the cute tin peeking out at me!

I brought it to work with me today so I could get pictures, which will be posted in the gallery as soon as I'm done with this post :)

I've had a pretty rough go with swaps lately, so I'm kinda quick to take the blame now. Currently I have two international swaps that are MIA.  :'( :'( :'( I'm just so glad KimmyLynne82 got her package. I already have doubts about my post office as it is, lol!!!

I made the elf plushie from felt... I'd never heard of Elf on a Shelf before I sent it though. I based it off a vintage elf pajama bag I found on the interwebs.
