I have never been much of a fan of Batman Beyond, but yeah, if you and your partner both like it, go ahead! It IS Batman, after all!  ;)

I wasn't keen on the idea of Batman Beyond at first but it really grew on me. Same with The Batman which I love now despite it's kiddie-ness.  :D

I remember watching the first Batman Beyond ep and being really angry, mostly to see Bruce Wayne so old and weak. But it definitely grew on me. I never really caught on to The Batman. I liked it much more once the show realized it wasn't as serious as it thought it was and they played with that. I really liked the Harley episode, with the song and dance number, it was just so perfect for those characterizations.  ;)

Wow, so many versions of so many characters. The crafting potential is endless!

Woohoo! Two sign-ups so far! Come on, Batman fans!

Yeah, I am a die-hard fan of the Animated Series (Mark Hamill!) but not so much of the other Batman cartoons. I utterly loath the new design for The Joker in the The Batman. He looks like a monkey.  :-[ But, it IS meant for kids, and it's a bit less serious than the other shows, so I guess whatever works. I also could never get into Batman Beyond, much, since to me, NO ONE can replace Bruce Wayne as Batsy! Bruce Wayne is just one of those things that should be constant. Death, Taxes, Bruce Wayne-disguised-as-a-Bat. Ya know?

Haha, RikaHeart, sadly, I haven't ever really been much of a Superman fan. I mean, I have a huge respect for the guy, but he is too bright for my tastes. One reason I love Batman is because it is easy to relate to his humanity and his struggle with good and evil. Perhaps I just haven't seen a Superman version I could truly relate to. Any suggestions?

OH! Speaking of Batman (and Superman), has anyone else here seen 'The Worlds Finest', also known as 'The Batman/Superman Movie'? One of my favorite animated movies! It was originally an three part episode of Superman: The Animated Series, but Batman, Joker, and Harley Quinn are main characters in it. I highly recommend it, if you haven't seen it yet. J'adore!  :-*

Oh! And for laughs: http://superdickery.com/  Probably the greatest site I have ever come across in my many years of internet. It makes fun of all the really old superhero comic covers and the like. Some of them, I can't even believe were ever published!! I really recommend it!

I love that movie! The dynamic between Bruce/Clark and Batsy/Superman is fantastic.  :D

Hahaha! Yeah, Supes and Bats were fantastic in that movie! Batman really shows his strength in it, I think. I mean, yes, Superman is a hundred times stronger than him, but Batman is far more intelligent insomuch as that he needs to figure out ways to make up for his lack of actual powers.

All this talk of Batman makes me want to go watch Batman Begins. While I think The Dark Knight is the best Batman movie there is, I absolutely adore BB simply for The Scarecrow. I am a HUGE Dr. Jonathan Crane fan, and Cillian Murphy did a wonderful portrayal. I can't stand how Scarecrow is seen as either a raving lunatic or a spineless coward in most of the comics. He was both a Professor and Doctor of Psychiatry, and one would think he would be extremely intelligent. If they made him out to be a sort of Hannibal Lector type figure, he would be truly terrifying. Instead of just making him rely on his fear toxin, make him use his vast knowledge of the mind and phobias to break  them. Personally, I would think that would be far more frightening than just his toxins. Alas, many comic book writers don't seem to share my view...

I too prefer my Scarecrow smart and scary.

Recently in the comics, the Scarecrow stopped using his toxins and used his knowledge/psych skills instead. There was this awesome two parter in which he escaped using hypnosis - making the guards stuff their suits with straw and then set fire to themselves-and proceeds to terrorize the city without fear gas. (I can't find which one right now, I'll post it when I find it :-\) I have no idea if this will keep going, what with all the "Final Crisis" stuff, but I really, really hope it does.
Also, you might want to check out the Scarecrow: Year One comic. While he does use his fear gas a bit, and is definitely on the insane side (family issues like whoa) he is oh so very smart and deadly.

I need to watch World's Finest Again. I do love how that despite everyone around him having superpowers, Batman is still the toughest one out of all the Justice League/Superherodom.

No Problem! I never seen the Worlds Finest, but I gotta see it.  I grew up with Superman since I as 2. So.. Superman will always be my Ulimate Favorite Super Hero.. lol! Can you blame a girl? I grew up watching Classic Cartoons with Superman PJ with a Cape lol!!!!!!

But I always liked the two together in the Cartoon. It's always see them compete against each other on how they did stuff where Batman threaten the crooks into what he wants and superman wouldn't do that yet,  Batman would peek to see Superman change to Clark and Clark used his X-Ray vision to see who was under the mask lol! In Truth, in the Justice League, those two are the bestest friends. He knows if something happens, he can count on Batman to stop him.

I have a friend who has All the Comics of Batmans.. Over I think 600 Comics o.o; damn.. That's alot lol! He even stays up with the newest addition where Batman is dead and Superman asks Alfred if He's okay and Alfred tells Superman that His son is dead and he isn't okay, but he continues to bring Batman back with Dick Grayson, Damion who is Bruce's son as Robin and etc.

That reminds me... I gotta go read bunch of comics now to catch up lmao.

Hahahah! I remember watching all the old cartoons as kid too. I was especially a fan of Batman: TAS and X-Men Evolution. Harley Quinn was my IDOL!

Yeah, I have been meaning to get Scarecrow: Year One, but I shall have to go online to do so. Which isn't bad, but I am tight for cash, lately, so it will take a while. I just recently bought Scarecrow Tales, which is pretty fun.

Here is The World's Finest! It's on youtube! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0KUiOvhY_mE  The rest of the parts can be found on there too. It is really a great watch!

Harley is almost as insane, in my opinion, as the Joker. How she can stick by him through thick and thin is mindboggling, especially when he beats her, insults her, threatens her, and tries to kill her over and over again. Her devotion is insane. She is amazingly pathetic, but she has a sort of innocently sweet charm to her. Adorable, happy, peppy, and innocently-not-so-innocent. A perfect villain, in my opinion, because you underestimate her as just some Joker groupie who can't exist without him. Wrong. She has proven herself many times before. It's like, you just don't think her a threat... until you wake up hanging over a piranha tank after sleeping off an injected sedative.

I love Harley! Hahah!

Probably my least favorite Batman Villain is The Penguin. He is fun, sure, but the least intimidating and really just kind of amusingly awful. Him and The Mad Hatter, who I like in some portrayals and some I don't. Honestly, if they went with him being some extremely vicious pedophile rather than his ridiculous Mind Control devices, He'd be a lot for creepy. I mean, I can see him kidnapping some poor little girl because she has long blond hair. In my opinion, that is hundreds of times worse than any mind control device.

Ahh, someday I am so going to have to write some comic books. I have so many wonderful ideas for some neglected characters...

Hahaha! Yes! Bud and Lou!  ::) I adore them. Harley and her 'Babies'. :D I agree, most of the time she can be a complete ditz, but she has a seriously evil streak in her! At one point in 'The Joker' (by Brian Azzarello), Harley and Joker are in a bar when they take a guy backstage of the stripping stage. Harley then skins the guy alive and they push him out onto the stage. Of course, Joker slaps a dollar bill on the man's skinless butt. ::) Those two!  ::)

Damn right I am! But strangely, it's not for Ledger!Joker. It's for the Comic book one (specifically The Killing Joke and and the one from Jeph Loeb's works.) And also the Animated Series one. Hahaha! Movie Joker was amazing and I love him too, don't get me wrong, but I really love it when The Joker is overly dramatic, hilarious, and witty. Such as in the Animated Series... or in The Killing Joke. His little 'Loo-oooo-oony' song makes me just about choke every time I read it.

He didn't scare me, but I was definitely intimidated. He was absolutely insane! Like some wild, rabies infested dog. I went to see the movie on opening night and everyone in the theater was a bit shocked by him. One moment stands out in my mind. It's when he is filming the fake Batman and is all: "Then why do you dress up like him! HooHOOO! Look at me, Brian."The whole audience was laughing... until he said the second "LOOK AT ME!" in that extremely frightening gruff voice. The theater went dead silent.

You know a movie is great when it can get that sort of reaction from the audience.

I'd have to say that overall, Animated/Mark Hamil Joker is my favorite - though Ledger!Joker is a close second. Part of this though has to do with the fact that I grew up on Hamil!Joker so all over Jokers are measured against him.

On a related note, did anyone else watch the Adam West Batman when they were young? With Ceaser Romano as the Joker and all the kitsch one could stomach?

Also, has anyone checked out the new series Batman: The Brave and the Bold? It's style is a throw back to the "Silver age" look but is quite funny. There is one episode that the Joker appears in (it's a two parter so you need both to get it, he's in the second half): Game Over Owlman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJJMp6HgQCg&feature=channel_page (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJJMp6HgQCg&feature=channel_page). The voicing could be better but I would that Joker ep to be hysterical. Kinda fifties slapstick but still, worth the 40 minutes it take to watch both eps.  :D

I think I'm the same. No other Joker has ever been quite as good (in my opinion) as Hamil. I do also like the newer, darker, comic!Joker though.

They were repeated not that long ago on the tv and I think they might be ever cheesier than I remembered, who knew it was possible!

Did anyone else (possibly UK only, I'm not sure) catch the episode of QI that discussed Burt Wards 'unique' way of giving out autographs?

I've seen Batman: The Brave and the Bold a few times. Man, I was extremely cheesy, and Joker definitely looks like his old comic book self. Put honestly, he looks so nonthreatening that it is almost too ridiculous to watch.

Not to mention I think of this every time I see that Joker design:::

My favorite characters have to be the Bat himself and then of course Joker and Harley. I love seeing them be interpreted and reinterpreted...though I don't always love the interpretations its an interesting process to watch over the years. I watched the original cartoons when I was a kid and then started reading the original comics...now it seems I always have Dark Knight on loop  :P You ladies are intimidating with your knowledge but I love reading your insights..I'm researching a lot of the films and comics you've mentioned  :)

I suggest you read Alan Moore's 'The Killing Joke', if you haven't read it yet. It is by far my most favorite Joker story ever. I also enjoy The Joker portrayal in 'The Long Halloween' and 'Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth'. In the latter, Joker sneaks up on Batman and gooses his behind. *swoon!*  ;)

I also enjoy The Joker portrayal in 'The Long Halloween' and 'Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth'. In the latter, Joker sneaks up on Batman and gooses his behind. *swoon!*  ;)

Looks like I've got some reading ahead of me  ;D Thanks so much!

No problem. Those are a few of my favorite ones. A Long Halloween is a fantastic read. It also details how Harvey Dent became Two-Face, which differs from the movie quite a bit. Arkham Asylum is a bit difficult to make out, since the writing is very odd (especially the font when the Joker is speaking), but it is pretty creepy. I also suggest 'The Joker', by Brian Azzarello. It's based of Ledger's Joker, from the point of view of one of his henchmen. It's pretty... intense. A lot of gore and blood, but a very interesting read.

I am currently working on getting Scarecrow: Year One, though I need money before I can do that...

Seems like you guys seems a bit more "expertic" about Batman than me. I I've been reading Batman comics since I was able to read but have never been a steady collector.

Well, you have seniority on me, when it comes to the comics. In the last year, I have only JUST gotten into them. I mean, I grew up on Batman: The Animated Series and the movies, but I had never read the comics. It's only this year that I picked up my first Batman comic...

I've only really read the comics as I came across them in friends bedrooms, so my knowledge tends to be quite scattery and random :D The animated series is definatley my first and biggest love of the whole Batman thing.

I read the comics on and off through the years. A bit heavier in later years, my roommate in college was also a huge batman fan and we had access to a comic store.  :P The only reason I know so much is that I worked for a comic artist so these things were required knowledge.

I too recommend The Long Halloween and Arkham Asylum. I would also recommend Arkham Asylum: Living Hell - even though it gets a bit silly towards the end (did we really need some occult event? Isn't the Asylum enough?) I like the portrayal of day to day Arkham life and how the doctors in the place definitely don't fit in to "normal" world. It also has a bit of commentary on the idea of the correctional system itself that one might enjoy. The "Justice" trilogy is a good one to check out too, all the villains band together to create a better world.

I'm certain that "The Killing Joke" was recommended and I definitely second that. Another interesting Joker comic was Batman: Of Lover and Madmen - it's another telling of Joker's origins, making a bit more personal for Batman. Jonathan Crane (pre-scarecrow!) appears and gives a profile on the Joker. The art is very stylized (very angular and sharp) but fits the story quite well.

Enjoy!

Yes, The Killing Joke is one of my all time favorite Batman comics, period. It was twisted, sad, freaky, and insane. And The Joker in it is so... wow. My favorite portrayal of him ever. How his philosophy is that it only takes one bad to to make good person like him. It's some deep stuff.

Not to mention the famous bit with Batgirl. It just proves that No One can hurt the Bat-family more than The Joker. Of course, in A Death In the Family, he takes that pipe and plays Robin Pinata. That was brutal. But I honestly really, really, really cannot stand Robin, in any form, so I can't say I was at all upset.

Welcome, Snazzyjazzy (I love the name!). Glad to have you.

I am having a fun time trying to figure out how to match everyone up. I am likely going first by if they will do international shippers (we have quite a few), then if they like the animated series, and then favorite character. Sounds nice in theory, but it is oh-so difficult!  ::)

Oh, but we have an uneven amount of partners at the moment, how should we go about matching them in that case? Should we do the Round Robin style or does anyone want to have two partners?

I think the Round Robin idea sounds fun...that would be crafting for person #2 who is crafting for person #3 who is crafting for you, yes? HAHA I hope that makes sense to someone other than myself  :P

I think you'll like it. I am completely in love with it and it will kill my soul to let it go. But I enjoyed making it so much (despite a few minor annoyances) that I may have to make one for myself. My mum loved it too.... not so much when I popped out from behind a door at her with it. In fact, I think she'll be glad to see it go, actually. She isn't enjoying my constant shout of 'BOO' every five seconds.

Hint, Hint!

Eeeeee! I can't wait! (I have a few guesses but I shall keep them to myself.  :P) Anything that can be used to scare other people is awesome in my book. (Is it any wonder why I love the Scarecrow so much?)

The only hint I can is that the large is the hardest and that while I only got a third (or 2/6, there's your hint ;)) done last night, it was the most complicated part. The second third will be slightly less difficult and the last bit will be a snap in comparison. What I have done looks awesome.

The back-up large (yes, I made one) looks really good. So it will be sent no matter what. (It's large in size only though. Those guide lines like to mess with me...)

The thought of receiving a package definitely cheers me up! I am currently crafting at the moment, so I am hoping to send Saturday! Of course, life gets in the way frequently ( >:( ) and who knows if that will work. I have one or two more crafts to finish up, and one that I need my mum to help me with (it's her area of specialty, though I think I know enough of it to do the project, I just don't want to screw it up...).

So, here's hoping it will work out and I'll send soon!

And Shdwstrm, I know exactly what you mean. I hope your feeling better. Sometimes, you just don't feel up to crafting. If you have to send late, that's fine, just keep me updated as to whats going on! Feel better!  :)

Sent today! All right, I'm never the first sender, woot!

However it'll be the last to appear in the gallery, post office is getting too expensive for quick shipping - though this is the first swap where priority and parcel have ever had such a huge difference in price. Arg, I so dislike the post office and their arbitrary prices. I vote we go back to carrier pigeons. (Though I'd have needed a carrier condor for my box.  ;))

No worries! It may take a while, but that will just build up the anticipation! And who knows, the post office may surprise us (I doubt it, but wouldn't that be nice?), and it'll arrive earlier than expected.

I'll be sending as soon as I am finished with some details on my swap. The details are the type that aren't at all fun and the ones that you get really sick of doing really quick. But... I finished the details on one of the objects today, and it turned out PERFECT. Like, so much so that I really, really don't  want to give it away. Oh man, it will be so hard to send this package... harder than any other package I have sent before...

Oh, and:
Hogwarts Owls > Carrier Pigeons

 ;)

Hee, I know what you mean, though I also suppose that means we were paired really well, if the items we're crafting are so hard to let go. I'll prolly be making variations of what I sent you for myself. (When I have time...)  ::)

Ah, I want that package to get there soon so I can hear (er, read) your reaction.

Hope everyone's crafting is going well.

How could I have forgotten about Hogwarts Owls? I was tired I guess. Though I would still need an extremely large/strong owl for the package. You'll know when it arrives.  ;)

Eee! I can't wait! Now I am getting all jittery with excitement. Most of my crafts are of the cloth variety, so the package will be relatively light weight. Oh, and I am including a little extra something. Not exactly Batman related, but something I simply could not resist making. ;)

I'll definitely be making myself some of what I have made you! Of course, I always say that, it seems, and I never do. However, I had bought myself the materials to make one of the items for myself long before this swap. I just ended up using it for this.

Not so much heavy as big, the large refused to fit into a decent sized box. And I didn't want to squish it too much. (Mine are usually of the cloth variety as well, though clay is also a thing I use a lot.

Eeeee, whatever you're sending sounds so super awesome.

I hear you on the "I'll make it later...", I made a cool vinyl tote for another swap (anime swap, if you're interested) that would be a good thing for me and I have plenty of vinyl. But yeah, I'm vinyl bagless still. Cause I'm lazy, lacking a sewing machine (at the moment), and easily distracted.

Perhaps I need to set crafting deadlines for myself, then I'll get stuff done.

Tahnk gosh that the send outs are Saturday.  In my own little brain, I though it was tomorrow....

I have a bit of a mess up on one of my items so I need to get more of a supply to fix it.  The problem is the place where I got the supplies from is now out of the thing I need! So I haveta treak accross town to another store and hope to heck they have what I need.

Other than that, I'm pretty much ready to send.

I've got everything packaged up and its ready to go tommorrow. It took 3 tries to get a box it fit in. I felt like Goldilocks - too big, too small....  ;D

Woop! Posted out this morning!
We're in the middle of a series of postal strikes here at the moment though, so they can't estimate delivery in case another stike starts.  >:(
Hopefully it'll miss any strike and get there soon though. *crosses fingers*

My Package was dropped off at the post office this afternoon.

The package won't be leaving there until Tuesday though.  There isn't a Saturday pickup with Canada Post and Monday is Thanksgiving for me, so everything is closed :o(

Boy, am I behind the 8 ball!
I'll LOVE your package no matter what! And I'm totally the worst swap partner EVER as I haven't even sent yet, meaning I'm 10 days late!! I am at least 75% done though, so a day or two and I'll be posting to sunny NZ!
