Post by: Meb on February 24, 2004 02:59:34 PM
I made this a while ago, its fun to drink but way more fun to make! I made the handles out of this white stuff in the belting section of hancocks.

I can't believe it!! I just made the exact same bag. My friend brought an orange juice bag back from Italy and I duplicated it with watermelon tang. My kid's really hated drinking it though.

This is awesome-- thanks Meb!  I've been seeing these around and wanted one.  Now I wonder-- where do you get those drink pouches?  Do we have them here in the States, in grocery stores?  Perhaps I've been living under a grocery store rock...

Yep, susank, they have them in the states! I want to make one so bad. I will have to talk my mom into buying me some Tang. I don't like it that much though!. I seen a girl at a grocery store and she had a Capri Sun purse. I might try that :-\

::)I am making one with the new capri sun juice pouches, but I can't get the sticky part off where the straw was attached. Would Goof off melt the pouch?

Hey! This is my first ever post! and i love the site! After checking it out and stuff i fell in love and had to start trying out some of the projects and join  :)
the tang purse is so great! i wish we could get it in England, if we can, does any one know where from!? hate the stuff but the packs are cool. but i ended up making myself a capri-sun purse, or i'd call it a bag but thats probably just because I'm English :S and it was fine. I just covered the whole thing in sticky back plastic so the little bits of sticky stuff that held the straw wasn't a problem. the handles i used were fropm a free bag i got with a magasine today but hated. it was really quick to make and no-one else i know has one at all like it thanks for the idea!!
the hardest part was trying to persuade my 12 year old brother that he wanted to drink all 10 pouches of capri- sun... Milly xx
oh, and i used our sewing machine which is pretty good and the needle was fine  ;)

I just finished my capri sun purse, but I don't have my sewing machine at school so I just made it with clear tape and duct tape.

You can get the sticky stuff off by rubbing it a little. I kind of rubbed it into one area and then scraped it off with my fingernail. Goof off or goo-gone might dull the finish of the bags.

Berina actually offers a pattern for the juice bag. I use a leather needle and jeans thread on zigzag. I don't have a berina ,sigh. But if I did I'd use that double needle attachment yet still with jean thread. You can also buy a teflon no stick pressure foot . it like made out of your no stick cookware.

Yes, I live in in Keller - just the opposite side of town from you. My son is a sophomore at Central High this year. Central cost only slightly more to build than the new Mansfield High School. It's beautiful! I am from the west side of fort worth, but moved away to Paris, Wisconsin, and Georgia before returning to FW two years ago. I'd love to go to a crafter's party! I have an online art/collage biz, but I am adding tutorials to it soon as well. Did you go to Main St Arts Festival? I couldn't  :'( due to pneumonia I've had for 9 weeks! It really is tiresome. Write back! Lexi :D

Hello, everyone. I am new to the site and may be way behind the times, but I just wanted to say 'Thanks' for the Tang purse pattern. My daughter has juice boxes everyday and has been planning to have a purse made by a friend. The only problem is that she had to supply all materials and give the girl $12 to boot. I decided to give it a go on my own and i have to say that it turned out nice.
( I am waiting for her to get home and find her prize!)
Thank you so much.

I'm a little late here, but I wanted to post my first attempt at a Capri Sun bag.  It came out ok, but I need to work on dealing with the bottom better.  Everyone at work wants one, one girl even wants to bring one to her prom!!  I discovered I really don't like Capri Sun, but luckily my daughter does!

After visiting this thread about a million times, I finally made my own!  I found it to be past my power to make the purse having tang pouches for the bottom as well, so I just used some cloth for that part.  I love the way it turned out, it is sooo funky and I have yet to see anybody else where I live with one like mine!

Hi All,

Awesome purses...can't wait to make my first one.  Can anyone who has made these give us some hints on sewing in the side panels.  Do you ever trim the packages.  Do you zig-zag the sides as well or do you sew them on the inside.

Thanks

Rose, Zig zag them on the outside, with wrong sides together.  Don't forget to leave 1/4 inch at the bottom when sewing the sides together.  This makes your bottom corners fit together nicely.  Good luck.  I have made about 75 of these and sold every one.  Now that school is out and the cafeteria is closed my capri sun pouch supply has dried up. Update: I was going to wait until this weekend to make my juice pouch purse but I decided on putting it together last night. It turned out great! When I get a chance, I will take a pic and post for everyone to see. Thanks again for the inspiration.

I am new here just found this board searching on how to make the juice pouch purse.  When  ( librarylil said >>>> Zig zag them on the outside, with wrong sides together.  Don't forget to leave 1/4 inch at the bottom when sewing the sides together.  This makes your bottom corners fit together nicely.)<<<I know I must be really dump here but I tryed to make a purse leaveing 1/4 inch at the bottom. I started sewing at the top and went to the bottom ok here I get confused. Do I turn the bag and continue to sew across the bottom and turn again back up the side to the top.  I did that but for some reason my corners look really bad. Not sure just what I did wrong.  Can anyone explain to me just what I am doing wrong. Sorry for such a long post my 1st time and asking a really dumb question that it seems everyone understood but me.  Thank you for any help you can give me.

hey there great Purse!  If you want to get the sticky sutff off of the bags simply use adhesive remover.  It really stinks but does the job.  I also heard you can use the nail polish remover but you have to  rub harder!  My husband removed the sticky off about 100 purses for me, while I made them for a crafts fair, make sure you are in a well vented area!! :)

I use rubbing alcohol to get the sticky off the tang pouch. If you put some on a rag and let it sit a couple minutes it's not hard to get off.

duck tape (good brand, a cheep brand  leaves it sticky on the pouch) works the best to get the sticky off     just wrap some around your finger and press on it 2 or 3 times and it is gone

I just made my first Capri sun last night.  I've looked at some of the tutorials posted here but I needed a little more help so I bought some instructions on line.

I got loads of pictures (not drawings) showing every step of the process.  These were the easiest instructions to follow by far.  If anyone else needs more help or could use the photos to help explain the tutorial I would suggest checking this out:

www.wackysack.com

I have tried to make these purses before and always ended up throwing the whole thing away.  With these instructions I had my first purse sewn together in just over an hour!

This is my first ever post, and I just wanted to know if anyone has ever embroidered on one of these bags? I thought about making these for my bridesmaids' gift bags. Also, has anyone ever made these out of regular Kool-aid pouches? I thought about lamenating them and them making a bag out of them. I thought if I could cut the bottoms, and get rid of the powder that it would work...

Any ideas? Thanks!!

I'm Filipino and yeppers, these bags can be found at Trade fairs and stuff. It's not that popular here, though. Sadly, some people just see it as "trash". Although I have friends who are super proud to sport them! :)

I'd love to make those bags! I'd like to try iron-on vinyl, but so far I haven't been able to find any over here in the Philippines...

BTW, Zest-O juice rocks. :)

Hope this helps those still looking for instructions.

I wanted to let you all know a local shop is selling my purses so I couldn't leave those instructions up there for free.

Would anyone be interested in trading or swaping different juice pouch / juice packs for making these purses? I cannot get Tang juice packs in my area at all.

I lined my koolaid bag purse with a tropical vinyl tablecloth that has flannel on one side. I like it because you can get those table cloths for about a buck at Big Lots in tropical styles for the summer.

You can see other bags at this Filipino website called:

I'm Filipino and yeppers, these bags can be found at Trade fairs and stuff. It's not that popular here, though. Sadly, some people just see it as "trash". Although I have friends who are super proud to sport them! :)

I'd love to make those bags! I'd like to try iron-on vinyl, but so far I haven't been able to find any over here in the Philippines...

BTW, Zest-O juice rocks. :)

You know when I saw them...I had to buy at least one bag to support the pinays back home that are putting these together.  I love the motto of The Body Shop, "Trade not Aid"  help people help themselves.  I can't wait to take my hubby and our son to P.I.!!!  It will be our first time there...I was born in Guam and never been there.
