I got that book last year from the library.

yea, what we thought was just conjunctivitus (sp) turns out to be her 2nd eyelid not working meaning a cyst or worse  :-\ so hoping crafting will put mind off it. Shes ok though, doesnt appear to be in any pain and the vet still thinks shes fit and healthy and she wanted cuddles and pats from me and the vet  ::) silly kitty lol

I can't wait for partners! I've already been thinking of ideas of special ways to do this animal or that animal, and I'm so excited to see what my partner wants and start crafting.

I'm sure she'll be fine. :) Not to put anyone off, but we have an in/outdoor cat that gets in numorous fights and has recently been hit by a car.. and still hasn't passed. I think cats really do have 9(or more?) lives. Stupid cat.

I know I said sometime next week, but I'm already listing people to see who will fit best with who :) Everyone is so different from each other though, I think I might just have to draw names from a bowl or something.

I really did want to join this, but due too being completely and totally broke at the moment I can't even afford a packet of ami eyes, let alone the postage to the US or wherever!  I think I'm going to have to sit it out and hope there's another round.

Bubblegum, I once had a cat that had a lump on his back.  I had it removed and he did just fine.

Angel, maybe someone else from London might sign up and then postage would be nominal.  Check with Julie on this.  Also, you don't need to use store bought eyes, you can always embroider them, use buttons, glue on pieces of felt, etc..  I don't always use eyes, even if they are safety eyes, because sometimes the recipient gives it to a little child.

LOL! sorry i find it so funny when people speak about London like it's the whole country :D because the UK is only little compared to US it costs the same price to send a package from the top of the country to the bottom as it would to post 2 streets away :)

Angel, i'm in the UK if that helps you to join ;D

Fine, fine, I'll sign up ;D  I've sent in my questionnaire.  I do at least have lots of yarn stash to use and I bet I have some eyes lying around somewhere and if not I can always improvise.  And I do have lots of patterns (including Creepy Cute Crochet) that I keep meaning to try out.

So glad you can join us Angel. Now, we have an even number and this will make it easier to pair people up.   Like I said before, you needn't use regular eyes.  You can always use buttons, felt, embroidered eyes and even tiny crocheted eyes.
Now for partners.  Yea!

I am so tempted to join - but then getting amis is not my thing - designing and making them is mine.  I'm not sure what to do!  I have more safety eyes and cute black shank buttons for eye balls than I will use in the next year... although I don't have much fun yarn ...
Maybe I should wait and see if an angel is needed?  I hate to say that but I don't want to be the person that people cringe at the thought of crafting for...  :(

Kay I'm back! It's supposed to rain all weekend and that pretty much ruined going swimming for me. Bah. So signups are over and I moved the post. I got a couple more people, so I should go read those and add them :) Partners in a couple days! Yayyy!

Inserting quotes isn't working >:(

JanelleJ: this is very true. I think I like the idea of crafting for someone completely opposite of me. I might do eeny meeny miney mo. :)

mamarose22: and for eyes, theres always puffy paint. I think it's actually easier to do detailed faces that way, but thats probably because I make a mess embroidering. And actually, we don't have an even amount of people. :P But that's okay.

everyone: thank you for convincing Angel to join haha.

It was out of stock everywhere when I wanted to buy it, and I lost patience waiting for it and ordered it from the author's etsy shop.  She signed it for me too :)

I was so impatient to buy it and I've never even made any of the patterns!

I can't afford to buy books, and I only use patterns a few times anyway. ::)

I can't even use patterns. It's not that I don't know how to read them or anything, I just always want to tweak something or do something different. Most of the time I just read a pattern to see how something is done, then do something similar.

I bought the creepy cute crochet book before I realized my inability to follow a pattern, too. If I get partnered up with someone who wants the book, you can have it. :)

I don't buy patterns either.  Most likely I would use a pattern just once.  I manage to get lots of patterns on line. I might have some older patterns saved from magazines, that are amigurumi, although not labeled as such.

I can totally relate, lusty butterflies taught me how to read the book :D what a nice sista!

I'm going to Glasgow from Wednesday until Sunday and the coach journey is 6 hours there, 6 hours back, perfect crochet time ;)

ya i'm awesome  :P i improvised on a lot of the patterns, i believe it was the head.  i don't like how she had some of her patterns, wing it, as long as you have the same amount of stitches in each circle it shouldn't matter.  i don't finish off each row with a slitch stitch, i work continually in the round, but to each their own.

who ever gets autumnkisses as a swap partner, you're gonna luv it, she's amazing :)

Actually, in order for an item to be considered an amigurumi, you can't slip stitch at the end of each round.  They are worked in a continuous spiral, in the round.

well that's good to hear. I hope everyone else is happy with their randomly chosen partner. :)

Can everyone do me a favor and make sure they have their partner and make sure there's an In Progress on your profile? Thanks :)

I haven't started either. I have some OWS claims I'm trying to get out the door, then I will have some time to devote to this swap. I have an awesome idea though. It's all sketched out and ready for hooking.

i think i was too excited about this swap because i had one project almost complete before signup was done (this has made my partner nervous haha).  i have some excellent ideas for her and i am finding it hard to part with them. my dog has taking a liking to one of them (she was found sleeping with it) so i hope goldsheepbowl isn't allergic to dogs :(
i can't wait to see the finished projects from everyone

Hello everyone!

Just for fun, what was the first ami you ever made?

Mine was a gold bunny with pink-ish ears for my son (he loves pink and purple. he just recently requested a purple monster with pink circles [spots]). The ear were made from novelty yarn, which was not a good choice for a new crocheter such as myself.

The first ami I ever made was a pink pig.  I got the pattern right here on craftster!  Looking back at it, I can see how far I've come.  Wow.

my first amigurumi was an armless doll thing. I never finished it because it was so ugly, I didn't use a pattern.. I was just practicing after watching youtube videos on how to amigurumi. The first pattern I used was... umm.. a chick, that I can't find atm, but I never finished that either.
I can't remember what my first completed amigurumi was, but I'm pretty sure it was these.
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3123/2905983397_29a630f371.jpg?v=0 that I made for sushiluvzombie for the kawaii food lovers swap. :)

what about your favorite amigurumi you've ever made? mine was this narwhal I made for the last anything amigurumi swap, http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3204/2933081405_4c352c5f2c.jpg?v=0 I used a regular whale pattern and crocheted around a metal thing for the horn. ;D

When I get a new yarn I usually have an hour or so where I just sit with it on my lap and look at it, pet it, sometimes hug it, etc. My husband thinks I'm very strange.  :D

As for my favorite ami, I think it would either be one of my armless monkeys or the giant snake I did for my son's birthday.

NZ has a thing called Trade Me, which is I suppose alot like your EBAY. You sell your old stuff and people buy it?
Well someone sold it lol, and from the sounds of it (I googled it) its no longer printed and very hard to find, so Im guessing as its a CareBears product possibly highly sought(sp) after  :D so so so happy.
So I now have the pattern for 10 different teddys lol

Other than that, I still fail at actually doing anything productive  :P

I just found it on Amazon US!  It looks very cool ;D

I finally picked something to make (although there will be more than one) and started it this morning.  Crocheting while watching CSI, what could be better?

My partner likes cute things, so that's exactly what she'll be getting :D

Oh, speaking of things that are cute, while looking for the Care Bears thing on Amazon I came across a few needle felting books.  I'd love to have a go at that.  Has anyone ever done it?  Is it hard?

I decided on a pattern and started it.  The picture looked so cute, but it looked so skimpy and small so I decided to scrap it and I started a different one.  I think this will come out a little better.  I usually do my crocheting while watching TV at night.  During the daytime, I am still working on my embroidered tote bag swap.  I need more light for that.

Its a shite load darker though, kinda wierd, lol. Think Ryan (my SO) is very relieved Im not purple haired (poor man, has to put up with tats, piercing and hair dye lol)
Power went out just after finished rinsing (thank goodness it was AFTER not DURING or BEFORE!!)
Ill try and get pics tomorrow, when its been brshed and made to look normal  :D

Still got nothing done, turns out crochet by candlelight is not practical and with two very nosey kitties, very dangerous  :D Spunky (my cancer cat) attempted to sniff a candle  ::) because she is just THAT smart  ::)

both of the patterns i have made came out way bigger than imagined, and i even cut back on the size of my hook by 1.5 mm.  so a couple of my ami's are big.  i have gave back into my amazon addiction and ordered a couple ami books from there.  they came in last week.  so guess what i've been doing?  my BF keeps saying, are you sending all those to the UK? haha.  i'm just making a whole bunch and then we'll decided which guys to send to my partner.

but on a side note, i did finally get my craft area set up this weekend (after having moved almost 2 months ago  :-\

i had boxes of randomness everywhere and i was really sick of looking at them, so i decided i was going to be productive this weekend.  i know i am missing some craft stuff somewhere, but i think my BF may have put some boxes in the garage i haven't found yet.  i have discovered that buttons, and beads and such look marvelous in interesting glass jars.  and now i know how much yarn i have been accumulating over the years.  apparently i'm not allowed to buy anymore yarn because i have the rainbow covered haha.
my craft area is slowly consuming more and more of the "man-cove" which apparently is a no-no  :P

I'm intrigued! I, too, have the head to your ami crocheted and am working on embelishing it. I'll finish the embelishing, stuffing and close it up tonight, then perhaps start on one of the other parts. ;)

Yea!  I finished my ami for Kwality570.  Now I just have to check out my stash of boxes (yes I have a stash of assorted size boxes) to see which one will be suitable.
I started collecting boxes of all sizes and shapes and even then sometimes I don't even have one to fit the project I want to use it for.  However, I'm sure I'll find something.  Then I'll pack up my ami and off I'll go to the PO.  (Hey, that rhymes.)

This ami may be the death of me. It is really starting to drive me crazy. I haven't been writing anything down as I've been making parts (because I'm stupid, yes) and so I made one leg, and now I have to make it's identical partner....and did I write the pattern for the first leg as I made it? WHY NO. WHY WOULD I DO A SILLY THING LIKE THAT? LOL *rips our hair* Ah but that's okay, I'll figure it out.

Oh no! I'm sorry you're having a rough time!

I have the head and head decor of your ami all finished. My son likes to cuddle said ami head while he watches Handy Manny. The rest of the body is still a WIP, but the actual crocheting is right at half finished. One I finish crocheting, it will be time for embellishing on the body/ body parts, then putting it all together.

So far it is coming out exactly like the sketch, so I'm excited!!

I envy all you people who can design their own ami, especially from just a sketch.  What talent.

Ok Kwality...you can start stalking your mailman.  Your ami is on its way.  I can't believe I'm the first sender.
JulieBollie..you will have to put a link to the gallery on the 1st page.

It's okay, ficklepegasus. I did the same thing. You'll be happy to know that your ami is coming along very nicely. I'm trying some new techniques that I hope will look as good in yarn as they do in my head. I'm hoping to get him done this weekend. *crosses fingers*

As for what to make for a 26 YO, you can make a hat, scarf, shrug, neck warmer, fingerless gloves and even, yes, an Amigurumi.  I'm sure many of us (especially me) are over 26 and are making and receiving them.

I'm hoping to be able to send on time but if not it will definitely be Monday (I will pm if I"m going to be late).  Poor excuse but it's been impossible to crochet in my house - we're having a heatwave in London.  It's only about 32 degrees but there is no air in our house AT ALL and it's so sticky and horrible inside that you literally can't crochet or knit because your hands are so sticky that the yarn won't go through them!  (Outside is lovely though but too awkward to bring all the various bits outside and crochet there.)

I haven't much left to do though, just finishing off really, so I'm hoping to get it done today as it's cooling down a bit.

It's 8am here, and I'm FREEZING. 64 degrees! I haven't adjusted from the 86 degree weather from yesterday yet. Bahh to morning coldness.

Haha, 64 degrees back home (Ireland) would be seen as scorching!  My mum was complaining of the heat the other day.  "None of us can get any sleep, it's terrible..." it was actually about 17 degrees which is 64F.  Silly woman ;D

Funny enough I seem to have different blood to everyone else in the country, I can't cope with the cold at all.  Anything under about 22 degrees and I'm in a woolly jumper.

Yes.  I noticed some time ago.  I think it went up about $1.00 a bag.  Thank goodness for those 40% off coupons.  Michaels and ACMoore accept each others coupons as well as Joannes.  However Joann's doesn't accept Michaels' or ACMoore's coupons, even for a craft item.  (I can understand if they don't accept craft store competitor's coupons for fabric, but not for a craft item.)
I think the reason for the price increase is because the stuffing might be made from oil by-products.  Is that possible?

I find that when working with the furry yarn (especially with crocheting) you have to work it with a strand of another yarn.

Yeah, its definitely easier to knit with furry yarn than it is to crochet.

My package is on its way to Canada.  Hopefully it'll get there soon- sometimes stuff gets there in a decent amount of time, sometimes it takes forever.  We shall see.  I'm excited for autumnkisses to get her package!

$30?!?! Was that express mail? They tried doing that to me. Priority mail for $6 only takes about 2 days longer (at least here), and the tracking number itself can be purchased separately for 75 cents.

it cost me $30 to send my parcel to goldsheepbowl in the UK.  it was going to cost me an extra $30 to get tracking on it  :o  good to know the post office is making some sort of money haha

and the tracking number itself can be purchased separately for 75 cents.

I just mailed something yesterday and the Delivery Confirmation had gone up to 80 cents.  But $30.00?  That's highway robbery.

By the way, I received a very cute ami cat from Kwality570.  Unfortunately, my daughter (the one with the camera) will be on vacation until next week so I won't be able to post pictures right away.  Kwality, if you took pictures before you sent, pleas post them so everyone else can see it.
Thank you.  I love it.

last time i sent a package to Canada (from UK) it was just over 2k in weight which meant it would've cost me 38 for airmail so i took a few things out which made it 23 just for about 100g difference! :o and even so thats expensive, its 37USD and 43CAD :o

and i'm so thankful for the extension just because now i can make my partner another ami so i feel adequate :P (i am still fairly new to crochet but i'm good with counting and patterns so i've picked it up pretty quickly god bless youtube :P)
*is getting into gear for sending tomorrow* ;D

My boyfriend took a picture, but getting him to send it to me might be more difficult than waiting for your daughter to get back. :)

I started and finished a belated birthday amigurumi (http://cache.lionbrand.com/patterns/60480A.html) last night while watching zombie movies(I'll never get tired of 28 Days Later) instead of sewing on limbs to my swap ami's torso. ::)

phew! all that hand sewing killed my hands, but in 2hours I managed to get the last extra all finished and the whole lot sent - airmail so that in 4-10 days Julie can show everyone what I made  ;D
I ended out needing an A2 size postal bag cos the ami is 30cm tall (ok, so its over 30cm but yea  ;) ) and stuffed the whole lot in, customs is going to hate me lmao, food products, steel AND natural fibres!! heh heh heh
Now, wheres that cabana boy with my cup of tea  ???

oh yea, the item I needed that was pricey is a kusdrybvkuerntvhiuebtiuermuve (stupid cat walking on my keyboard)

Thats right Julieboolie, you package includes items that are crocheted from wool and acrylic yarn as well as crocheted embroidery floss, stitched (by hand) and glued felt, premade plastic, steel and molded polymer clay,  :D
how helpful was that?

is it there yet? lmao

Life happens. And I'm going to be gone for a week or so in foster care. I'll be back as soon as possible. I don't have time right now to contact a mod and ask them to finish here. If no one does, I'll be finishing here as soon as I get home.
I'm sorry guys.

You can still contact help desk, because this swap needs a new organiser so we can all get feedback too, and ofcourse you need an angel

Bubblegum, I'm sorry that you didn't get your package.  Something serious must have happened for Julie to have had to go to Foster Care.  (She's only 17).  I don't think it was intentional as she apparently had some problems in her life.  I guess she needs our support.

Hi everyone. Thanks, bubblegum_phoenix, for opening a help desk ticket. I'm going to go check the gallery and see if I can figure out who needs what feedback. I may be asking some people to pm me for clarification, but we'll get this straightened out asap.

OK, in checking julieboolie's records and going through the gallery, it looks like everyone received with the exception of julieboolie's partner, bubblegum_phoenix. Would anyone like to be an angel for bubblegum_phoenix? If so, please pm me.

If no one from the swap can do it, I'll post in the regular angel board in a couple of days.

I wasnt to stressed about not recieving, but Im glad I will be  :D I just wanted to let everyone know that I hadnt withheld pics!!
I contacted the help desk pretty much the same time as letting you know I hadnt recieved, cos we need feedback!
I cheat, I look up whoever the mod is for help desk and go the bit where you send a pm and theres usually a link there  ;) its the only way I know how lol, I did try looking for a link 1st though!
anywho, I hope noone thinks bad of me!  :-\ I didnt mean to word my message in a bad way about not recieving, sadly I lack that thing called "tact" lol  :D

Title: Re: Anything Amigurumi Swap II (sendouts extended! 7/12)
Post by: rackycoo on August 21, 2009 04:46:49 AM
I don't think you lacked "tact" at all. The help desk is there for exactly that purpose. It might be a while before julieboolie is able to return, and several people were without accurate feedback. The swap mods are here to help in situations like this!

For everyone's future reference, there is a link to the help desk in the Swap FAQ's (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=229624.0). Or you can always find it the tricky way, like bubblegum_phoenix did.  :D
