Title: Jareth
Post by: loireag on May 27, 2009 09:21:20 PM
I was in a swap on another site that just finished and for it I got to make up a package based on the movie Labyrinth. Which I was deliriously happy about because it gave me a reason to make this.
The Goblin King in all his glory.
(http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3464793040/in/set-72157617064703397)

(http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3463977701/in/set-72157617064703397)

The other fun thing I made was some of the eye lichen.
(http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/3464786062/in/set-72157617064703397)
This specimen was pried from a decaying section of wall near the northern edge of the Bog of Eternal Stench. The particular wall lies downwind and is seldom visited, for obvious reasons, especially by the repair-crew goblins.

There has been a longstanding belief that the eye lichen only grows on the southern sides of walls and that at sundown all the lichen in the Labyrinth collectively looks towards the castle. Regional variations on the belief state the lichen looks towards the exit, and occasionally, lunchward. This is clearly false and has led many travelers farther astray. Of course it’s their own fault for believing such a stupid thing when clearly the lichen never looks collectively at anything.

Here's the rest of the Labyrinth photos on flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/sets/72157617064703397/ there's lots more of Jareth.  ;)

I had such a blast making this stuff. I had to share.

ETA There's no pattern at the moment. I took some notes as I worked but I left a lot out, I'm planning to make a Jareth for my very own eventually so hopefully I'll flesh out the notes then and try and put them into a format that other people could actually read (my brain works in weird ways). But it's not gonna happen soon. Too much other stuff to work on.

Awesome. Labyrinth must be in the air. The project I started today is labyrinth inspired. Great Job! Best Jareth crochet doll I have seen.

Ha! that's awesome aada! I really wanted him to have that particular feature, it seemed important. Seeing as how pretty much any time there is a conversation about Labyrinth it eventually turns to Bowies crotch. Not including it seemed like it would be wrong. It did seem a little weird at the time to be contemplating how to shape his junk. But it just paid off.  ;D

I immediately knew who he was when I saw the thumbnail on the main page!

He is so cute! And I love his crotch. I'm very thrilled that you included it, as it really IS vital. And it looks fantastic.

Now I want one.  ;D

Oh, do I ever heart this! So adorable! Of course it looks much less menacing than the movie, but it is awfully hard for a crochet doll to look menacing. Great job on the clothes and hair!

I saw the thumbnail on the front page, and I just KNEW.
I love both of them! They're both fantastic, although I must say, I like Jareth just a little more than the eye moss. ;)
I love way you shaped him, and the little details like the lace on the shirt (and the bulge...) make him perfect.
Is there any remote chance of you posting a pattern? I would fear you, love you, and do as you said if you did!

This is wonderful! You've done an amazing job on Jareth to make him so completely recognisable and yet so simple. I think it's his slimness and the lace that does it, not to mention the hair, and of course, the bulge!
The lichen is brilliant too, that's just going to look so cute wherever you put it (though I imagine it would be quite amusing to have it in the toilet - bog of eternal stench, get it?!)
I'm very jealous, both of the recipient, and your skills!

Awesome! This is playing on my tv right now! I bought the dvd recently (my vhs is slowly dying) and my son wants to watch it almost every night.

I'd also like to add my approval of the pants region. This is indeed a vital ... er ... portion of the character.

It's Patons Allure in the color Emerald. And it didn't take much to make them either, there was lots left over.

oldlady

It was really simple making his junk. I just switched from single crochet (sc) to half double cochet (hdc) right at the crotch and increased 2 hdc in the center 2 stitches (so you're working 4 hdc stitches as the "junk". Or possibly 5 stitches I might have tossed another hdc-inc in on the second round, I'd have to find my notes and it depends on the size of doll you make). I think I worked two rounds like that and then on the next round switched back to sc and decreased twice (or three times, sorry not sure right now) to come back to the original stitch count. The basic idea was to just toss a few extra stitches in there and use half double crochet to get the bulge. He was worked from the toes up, if you are working head down you could do something pretty much the same, but I thought I better mention it.

When you make your Jareth post him! I wanna see. :)
