Title: The shiny joys of a Pop Tab Prom Dress.
Post by: Delighted on May 05, 2009 02:09:54 PM
This dress is my pride and joy. It took two and a half years of both planning and construction. I can't believe it's actually completed!

I owe majormajor credit to jad2004, who posted the first ever Pop Top dress I ever saw back in 2006. Her dress was my inspiration and I even used the same type/color of stuff to weave the tabs together. [Ticker Tape. If you ever want to make a dress out of pop tabs too, I'd recommend using something else. It works good, but I'm pretty sure there's better for this.] The pictures of her dress aren't online anymore [sadface], but my dress looks similar to it.

Another person I would like to give credit for inspiration is Dark Seraphim. The bust portion of my dress came out of staring intensely at her's. [Her dress', not her real bust. xD]

There are so many beautiful pop tab dresses out there and I think every girl should make one! It's such a wonderful experience, making it and wearing it and I'm so happy I got to accomplish this! It takes a lot of patience and a ton of work but I know it was worth it all in the end.  :)

So, without further ado, PICTURES!

A full-scale shot of it:

Myself and my amazing boyfriend, Josh, who made Prom Night by far the greatest night of my life. <3

I'm a sucker for anything made out of tabs and your dress is amazing!! I wish I had the patience... I get bored too quickly and end up making only smaller projects. From far away it doesn't even look like tabs. You look great in it too!
I'd also like to know, how do you get in and out of it??

thats just about fantastic and a half. I'm pretty sure i would have gotten about 1/2 of a 1/2 of a 1/2 of the way through the halter top and destroyed it in an impatient rage.

Thank you everyone for your amazing responses! It's such a joy to know that people really love it. Thank youuu.  :D

To the question a couple of you asked, to get the dress on and off, you have to pull it over your head. [Lots of deep breathing, fun stuff.]
I was going for simplicity and making it without some form of a zipper may have been easy to make, but putting it on however... Haha! It wasn't really that hard to do. It's not good on the dress, because it stretches it out a little, but it becomes easier to put on and take off the more you do it.

Also, I got interviewed today from someone from a local news station that just may want to do a story on the dress! It's so exciting! I'm just so happy it's done and I know I actually accomplished something wonderful.

WOW.  That is ridiculous how awesome your dress is!  I'm not sure I've ever seen a dress so classy and elegant AND re-use before.  Bravo.

You are amazing, and my hero! I've been saving tabs for this, but my progress has been halted... and now, by posting your beautiful dress, I'm inspired to take up mine again! You look absolutely incredible. And your shoes! I love your shoes! Can I ask where you got them?

:o So amazing!!!!! :o And I LOVE the pink! Two thumbs way, way up! Is there any possible way you could give a small tutorial on how you interlinked the tabs together? I'm gonna try to make something out of pop tabs as well, but even staring at the close up I just can't figure it out!

I love your dress! I wrote a blog on pop tab fashion at http://iminlovestyleblog.blogspot.com/ (http://iminlovestyleblog.blogspot.com/) and featured your dress with a link back to the original topic post.
