Title: "Sarah" (pattern) and a capelet
Post by: HelenaJane on March 30, 2005 12:05:16 PM
Well, I finally finished Sarah! And I knitted up a quick little capelet too with some of my new mohair!
here they are!

Patterns will be on my blog as well in the free patterns section, but here is the Sarah pattern.
Sarah Tank (named after my fave knitting buddy Sarah of STITCH! -http://stitch.typepad.com/ (http://stitch.typepad.com/))
Size M-L
Gauge: 5 st & 28 rows = 4"
Finished measurements:
Bust: 16 1/2" (for maximum boob action ;))
Waist: 17"
Hips: 18"
Length (not including straps) 16 1/4"

Materials:
4-5 skeins of Berroco Softwist (100 yards per hank, I used color 9437)
Us Size 9 (5.5mm) circulars
Size 8 or 9 DPN's
Markers
Stitch Holders
Needle
******NOTES********
I would add an inch or so on the bottom of stockinette, which would require 5 balls of the yarn. As it is (and I knit tight) I have about a 12" strand left over..
Also note that this yarn wants to split, really badly..

Directions:
Cast on 187 st, be careful not to twist and mark at join.
Rounds 1 and 2) Knit
3) *p2tog three times, yo, k1 five times, yo, p2tog three times*
4) knit
REPEAT ROUNDS 1-4 TWO more times.
13) decrease Round- Decrease 27 stitches evenly across round via k2tog. (160 st remain)
When at BOR, knit 85 st, mark, k remaining 85 (this is for dividing the front and the back, so it doesn't really matter when you put it in, just as long as you get it in before the lace pattern))
Now continue kniting (stockinette) untill piece measures 7 1/2" from cast-on edge. (You may want to add an inch here if you are taller)
Now you will be increasing by raised increase method every 16th st. (170 st)
Repeat rows 1-4 THREE TIMES piece should now measure 10" (or more if you added extra)
Now decrease 1 st before and after each marker, then knit for an inch.
Decrease again as above and knit another inch (piece is now 12" from cast-on or more if you added extra)
Work split as follows (BACK)
1)K1, SSK, K to last 3 st, k2tog, k1
2)Purl
Repeat rows 1 & 2 untill about 45 stitches remain (you can make it longer and skinnier by continuing if you like)
Now K1, ssk, k1 (these 3 will go onto a stich holder later) BO 39, k2tog, k1. Place these stitches on holders. (3 st to a holder)
Now work the front exactly the same..
When you get to your last 3 stitches, transfer them to a dpn and make an i-cord, when you get the length you want (I did 5 1/2"), put the 3 stitches on holder onto dpn and kitchener stitch together. (I may or may not have spelled that right)
Do same for the other side.
Weave in any loose threads, you could crochet edges if esired, but I don't see the need, and block it, being careful not to put too much pressure on the lace pattern.

I love it when someone names things after me!  (I know, it was for someone else...but I'm living vicariously)  Especially when they're as good looking as the stuff you make.

Very cute. I love the capelet color too!  Both are very very nice.  Yes, you must model it for your blog fans!  Also show the back too!

I absolutely love that tank top!  I do have two questions, though:  you said to add an inch or so of stockinette to the bottom--why?  Wouldn't that curl oddly and obscure the pretty laciness?  Plus what did your gauge end up being?

Anyway, awesome pattern.  I am trying to scrape up the $13 needed to buy enough Katia Pisco for this from elann. ;D

Thanks everyone!
I will NOT model it untill I lose 10 more pounds, however, because it's rides up on me! (Which is why I would have liked to have added another inch of stockinette, it's a bit too short for my tall frame) However, I am sending it to my cousin Mandy for her birthday, I'll put up pics of her modeling it.
Socomfyhere- The gauge is 5 st an inch, sorry about the typo there, so its 20 st and 28 rows per 4" square in stockinette...
And you would be adding the inch after the first lace pattern and before the second lace pattern under the boobs... so where it says to knit untill piece measures 7 1/2 inches, you would keep knitting untill 8 1/2" instead.

Amazing designs, Helena.  I also love the other small caplet featured on your blog.  You have great talent!

Thanks for sharing your patterns, btw.

I love the products on your blog.  You have lovely taste of colors.  Do you shop the yarns on line or local stores?

HelenaJane - your patterns are GORGEOUS!  I am so looking forward to being done with birthday knitting so I can get to work on the Lelah top!

I am also wondering where I can find the pattern for the yellow capelet in your original post.  That looks absolutely lovely!!

PS Sorry for resurrecting a really really really old thread.  :P
