Title: my 'green' coffee sleeve!
Post by: DaringToBeGreat on December 20, 2008 10:45:11 PM
I decided to try my hand at the coffee cup sleeves that I've seen on here recently. I actually wanted to make one for a gift but this was my practice sleeve. The stitching is a little wonky since this is the first thing I've made since 6th grade home ec. so be kind!! I hope you like.

The front

the back

Laid out flat

I got the tutorial for the blanket stitch from the FutureGirl (http://http://www.futuregirl.com/craft_blog/2007/09/tutorial-hand-sew-felt.aspx) blog.

cute! I love it. I also want to make some felt ones, though the only ones I've made so far (also for gifts) were knit with sock yarn (coffee cuff on ravelry).
I love it! So very green...  :)

Me, too.  I think you did a great job, for being out of practice.

Thank you for all the awesome comments! I'm very proud of my first creation  ;D

I don't drink coffee either, I'm a hot chocolate girl, but 'hot chocolate sleeve' didn't sound right  ;)

I didn't even think of that! What a great idea!

I was thinking of making these too!  Yours looks great!

I was puzzling over closures - is there a reason for the button low on the cuff and not in the middle or the top?  Or for just one button and not two?

I love this! I've seen a few versions of these (including silicon ones in stores, which I'm against!) and I love it. I'm currently planning an "eco purse" and it's going to be equipped with great little 'gadgets' like this! Nice job, it looks great!

ooh what a great idea! folded up reusable shopping bag, cup cuffs, maybe a hankerchief, one of those die hard water bottles - not flimsy wasteful plastic ones from the grocery store.....mmm

as for the cup-cuff, it's adorable! i'd never had guessed it;s been so long since you had crafted. does the felt insulate well? i always wondered what's the warmest craftable material would for those. and non-coffee drinkers like myself, you cant beat some peppermint hot cocoa in the snow, hot cider, or a soothing decaf tea!

Thanks again for all the great comments!!

The cardboard cuff i traced for the pattern was slanted at the corners, so the button had to be set lower down so that there would be enough felt to close it, I know it looks a little weird, but velcro has never been my friend, so I'm stuck with buttons!

I haven't had a chance to test it out yet, it's been too cold to leave the house to get a hot cocoa!! I'll let you know after I get a chance to do a trial run!

After carrying this around in my purse for a couple weeks I finally, yes finally, had a chance to test out my sleeve and I'm proud to say that it works wonderfully! It has just enough cushion to keep my fingers from burning and my hot chocolate warm. ;D

I've waned to make some for my green coffee fanatic friends for a while but just haven't. The most coffee obsessed greenest friend's bday is next month, so maybe I'll do it soon. I love the design of yours and the stitching! Nice!
