I reserve the right to deny any craftster's entrance into this swap for any reason including the following...
ANY "negative" feedback comments
poor communication in past swaps
consistently sending late in past swaps
Note: I will also leave feedback reflecting your actual participation in the swap (good/poor communication, early/late sending, etc)

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES

Details of swap:

The idea of this swap is to craft for your partner 12  items  based on their interests, going along with the idea of the 12 Days Of Christmas song. The items that you make DO NOT have to be the items IN the 12 days of Christmas song. The items sent/received can be BOTH everyday items and Christmas/Winter themed goodies. You will make 6 small items for days 12 to 7, for days 6, 5 , 4 & 3 you will make medium items and days , 2, & 1 will be large items. So that is 2 large, 4 medium and 6 smalls for a total of 12 days.

You will label the gift individually with the numbers 12-1, so that your partner knows which day is in which package(s). We will start opening the packages on December 14th with the #12 package. Inside would be one small thing until day 6 when they would be mediums. And on and on until on December 25th when you will open the #1 package which is one large item.

I would like to see that it is : 75% or more  handmade 25% store bought.

The RULES:
1. You must send ALL PM's to TAOJ and all PM's must have the subject line: 12 Days of Christmas MINI Swap 2008

2.You must post in the original thread at least once a week! This starts once partners are assigned. That is only about 10 posts.

3.PM's must be sent to TAOJ and your partner when you send and receive. If you are sending within the USA or Canada you must get a DC# / tracking # and send it to TAOJ and your partner. They cost an extra $.75 in addition to the postage price, in Canada they are free. If you are sending outside of your country, you must keep your receipt as proof of shipping, it will be requested if there are any problems!!! This is mandatory!

4.When you open each days package, you will then need to post in the gallery. I ask that you post pictures within a reasonable amount of time. I know that they Holiday season can be quite hectic, but please get them posted within 5 days of opening. Posting pictures is a requirement for this swap! No feedback will be give unless you have pictures of your 12 packages. If you don't have a digital camera and cannot get access to one, please ask your partner to take pictures before they send.

5. The following items are NOT allowed in swap packages:
- Anything that is illegal in the U.S. or wherever you are sending your package to or from.
- Any items that have a legal age requirement to consume in the U.S. such as tobacco, alcohol, pornography etc.
- Mixed CDs containing copyrighted music or similar, including copied software, CDs, DVDs, etc
If you are uncertain please check Craftsters guidelines as well as your local post office

craftsters guidelines for swaps are as follows:
By Time
-Big = 3 or more hours
-Medium = 2 or more hours
-Little = 2 or less hours

By Size
-Big = A shawl, a shirt, a skirt, a set of jewelry with four to five items, a purse
-Medium = one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf
-Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks

By Price
-Big = $30 or more
-Medium = $10-$30 dollars
-Small = $10 or less

2. If you are sending BAKED GOODS, please only send them if you and your partner live in the same country. I don't want anyone's package to go MIA with the lovely customs officials. Also, if you are sending baked goods, you may leave them out of your  package and send them individually so they arrive in a timely manner and don't spoil or go stale.

3. I highly recommend that you wrap your items in a plastic bag/trash bag/ or some other protective wrapping INSIDE the box you are sending. Because of the time of they year packages can get WET due to the post office/ups/etc leaving them on the doorstep AND some swappers have suggested that you also do this with anything you might send to a hot climate that might melt on your swap goodies.

4. Also, if you will be shipping TO a partner that is in a HOT climate during the swap send outs, please do not include any thing that might melt on their swap goodies. Think about wrapping them in a plastic baggie or something similar.

5. Here is some info from the USPS on the Flat Rate Boxes: these can be use for Domestic and International but the rates differ for International shipments. And if you purchase your postage online at usps.com or by paypal, com you get a small discount on the postage price. The Flat Rate boxes themselves are FREE (you still have to pay for postage ) from your local post office and also FREE if you get them online from the website usps.com, they will deliver them to you free of charge too!! Canada has some shipping envelopes that can be used within the country or region and prices will vary, but if you are sending something heavy they are a good choice.

6. I highly recommend that each of you put together a WIST. A WIST is a huge help for your swap partner. They get to look through all the things you have put into it to get a feel for what you like. Visit WISTS.com for more info.

Also remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find out how to ship your packages and other details about participating in a swap.

Verrrrry interesting. Much more reasonable then the other one with seventy-something items. *laughs* It's definitely piquing my interest.

Seriously thinking about this, always loved the idea of the normal one, but never wanted to make so many things! I'll probably be signing up (what an awesomely long questionnaire!)

How many posts do we need to participate? I've been lurking but haven't posted much because i'm still learning how to do some new crafts :) but this swap sounds terrific and I LOVE christmas. Please let me know :)

Title: Re: 12 days of Christmas MINI swap 2008

You need to have 15 posts and been a member for a month before joining a swap.

I know alot of people had mentioned they liked the idea of the 12 days swap, but were just unable to craft that much, that is why I thought this was a good idea.

My husband is doubting that I can so this swap and get our family Christmas presents done (I make 90% of them).  Therefore I am going to prove him wrong and get a lot done this week and then he will be proved wrong and say yes honey, I think you should do the swap.  In fact, you are right all the time, even when we disagree;)  Anyway, I will hopefully be signing up for this next week after I have executed my non-procrastination plan.  Christmas is something I plan as soon as Dec 26th rolls around and I love it, love it, love it!

I'm really tempted too since this is more reasonable than the other swap.

I just have to plan out my other swap I'm doing in this time frame to be sure I can do both.

I am making all my xmas presents this year and am almost done already (its sick I know, but so great hehe). I saw the 12 days of xmas swap but it was just too much to bear but I'm in love with the mini-version. I just completed my first swap and am waiting to get feedback for it but as soon as that clears I am so in for this. I just hope it doesn't fill up too fast  :o

A quick question:

We ship all in one package right? Or at least all on the same date?

I ask because I'll be going home for Christmas, but the beginning of opening/receiving will be while I'm still at school. I don't want to have to worry about them getting delivered to the wrong place.

Title: Re: 12 days of Christmas MINI swap 2008, closing in 5 days!
Post by: TAOJ on October 04, 2008 06:00:20 AM
Yes, they can all be shipped in the same package. The requirements for this swap are only slightly larger than  most swaps so I don't see any reason why you couldn't get everything into one box.

Oh! this sounds very promising! :D I'll have to think it over and fill out that monster questionnaire.  :P At least it looks like there is a good amount of time to get all the items done.

One question though, do all 12 items need to be handmade with some store bought side things or is it ok to mix it up a little bit. Mainly with some of the smaller items? Like have a couple of the small numbers/days/items be just a store bought thing. Just want to make sure I'm clear on the rules.

Yes, some things can be store bought, but I would prefer if "most" items were crafted. I had put down that roughly 75% handmade and maximum 25% store bought as a guideline.

I like to try to pair people up, but once I sit down and look at the questionnaires I'll decide. Its hard too since some people don't want to send out of their country so its not really fair for someone to have to send international, but receive something more local.

I've never swapped with anyone on the list either! I also have to say that I only recognize a few of the names from previous swaps. It'll be fun to be swapping/talking with a new bunch of faces!

Sorry, guys. Everyone should have their partners info now. I started sending from work yesterday and intended to send the rest from home, but our internet was down  :-\  I was not happy.

From the beginning I wasn't sure if I was going to participate due to time and other obligations so it was okay that we ended up with an odd #, plus I figured if for any reason we needed someone to fill in then I'd be able to do that  :)

Someone had sent me a PM about their partner doing the same/similar crafts as them. I did try to mix it up, but many of you do the same crafts so it was difficult to get everyone someone completely different from themselves. But, hopefully your partner may have something listed that they never seem to have time to make for themselves or you can find some differences  :)

That's why I never let my bf see everything! Or tell him how much I swap. He'll see something new I have from a swap and he'll ask where it came from and I just say, "Oh, the internet."

I just went through all my crafting stuff.  I am hoping to do a personal swap with someone else.  (I will not type who as they may be helping me something for here.).  So basically I found quite a few uncompleted projects... a lot of uncompleted projects.  Now I have to decide which ones to finish and which ones to dismantle and label excess stash.

On a more cheerful note, I went to Joanne's with two 40% off coupons and two 50% off coupons.  Sales and coupons...throw in a mocha and a chocolate eclair and you have heaven.

fusbdgt - I hope you had a book to read -or maybe something to craft while you waited.  I have learned to never go to my Joannes on a Saturday afternoon during one of their sales - cause some people can be so nuts who needs that aggravation?  Um... I might be one of the nuts cause I don't handle people who cut in line very well.  I am that person you will hear saying "Hey! This person just cut in line.  I want everyone to take a look at this person cause they seem to think they are too important to wait!"

lol that's too funny, i just kinda meandered about, luckily during the really busy times they call over the intercom too, most of the time, still had i realized that every one and their children (not that i don't like children) were going to be there, then i prolly would have just waited or gone way earlier but that's my fault b/c i'd left my car at work last night b/c i'd had a few drinks and wasn't able to go earlier b/c that when the bf took me.

AHHH!!! I'm so excited to start making stuff for this. It's been a manic week, as usual, but I can't wait to get to work on xmas goodies!

I'm curious, seeing as I love the holidays so much, how does everyone celebrate?

I come from a mix of many families - step-parents and such. So we have a little bit of Italian, a little bit of All-American, and a little bit of Cockney English! Not only does each house have a completely different decorating scheme, but we all celebrate in different ways. Usually, I end up stuffed with Italian food and English deserts, napping in my aunts "americana-christmas" living room. It's certainly a melting pot holiday =)

I missed out of the Joannes sale craziness since my sugar boogar is sick so didn't want to add to the craziness by mixing a cranky baby with cranky craftsters but on the bright side at least it gave me time to hone my list down from 60 to 42 possibilities  :D
My family is multicultural as well We do Christmas eve seranades spanish style: sing off key at friends house, go in. drink and stuff ourselves silly then troop off to next house: repeat until one passes out or sun comes up.
we also extend the holidays by celebrating Three Kings Jan 5 so we get to  put off the diet for almost a full week after New Years  ;)

I'm curious, seeing as I love the holidays so much, how does everyone celebrate?

In Sweden we do most of the celebrating on Christmas eve. The most important part of my celebration is spending time with my family. The older I grow the more important it gets. I usually take turns celebrating with my family and my fiancé's family. But the procedure is pretty much the same.  We have a large smörgåsbord buffé at noon with all the traditional foods, stuff that I unfortunately don't like, lots of meat there, and I'm vegetarian. Then for some reason people watch "From All of Us to All of You ", a bunch of short Disney films, that one of the tv-companies have been showing every year since 1960. My father and I usually solve crossword puzzles and have tea instead. Then we open presents. If there are small children in the house some grown up will usually dress up as santa and drop off the presents, but were all grown up now so we just put gifts under the tree. Anyway, after that we all just hang out, eat left over sandwiches and play with our presents (yes we still do that, my brothers usually get a bunch of fun board games). My mother was Canadian so we do have some North American influences in our celebration too, on Christmas day we get stockings in the morning. My father is very outdoorsy so we usually go for a long walk and then we have a big turkey dinner with friends and relatives.

My mothers birthday is Christmas Eve, that's the most important celebration. We  eat a feast, have birthday cake, open birthday presents...and exchange family gifts. Christmas morning we drive an hour to my in-laws (whos a preacher) head to their church and do family stuff with them.

but  really...Christmas eve is the big one for me

My family's traditions...

Dec 06: We first put or stocking the night before so that on St. Nicholas Day they will already be full.  We used to put out our shoes, but decided that our Christmas stockings were cleaner and looked nicer.  Dec06 is also the day we decorate the family Christmas tree.

Dec 24: We have a big family dinner, someone reads the Nativity Story out loud, and we open presents, some years we also go to Midnight Mass.  Most of us spend the night at my mom's house.   After everyone is ready for bed, my (now 11 years old) niece and I go for a walk around the neighborhood.  In an effort to at least get her to lay down, someone may have once told her that Santa's elves scoop out a neighborhood first to make sure that all the children are asleep.  So now we walk around and hide from approaching cars (cause you never know - there may be an elf inside) and I do my best to wear her out.  Later, when they are older, my nephews will probably be joining us.

Dec 25: We go through our Stockings. Everyone with in-laws that live nearby says goodbye and moves on to the next house.  The rest of us have a big breakfast, argue about who did dishes last year, and then spend the rest of the day playing with our stuff and watching old Christmas movies.

Jan 05: We go to  mass and (depending on everyones schedules) go out to dinner.

Jan 06: Christmas stuff gets put away.

I've gotten everything that I'm sending planned out! Now I need to figure out what I can stash-craft and what I need to go out and buy.

We celebrate the mass media Christmas at my house (parents are who-knows-what). We put up our Christmas tree and decorate the house in mid-December after I've gotten home from college. I love decorating, and will throw a fit if they don't wait for me.  :D I'll go to the Christmas Eve-eve service at my church either by myself or with some friends. Christmas Eve we open presents as a family (parents, me, little sister). Christmas morning we'll get our stockings, and then drive out to my aunt and uncle's house (~2 hours away) and spend the day there, which includes a big Christmas dinner with all the traditional food. We'll spend the night there, and come home the next day. That's pretty much the extent of our holiday, we pack it all into those two days (besides the decorating). Man, I want to decorate and wrap presents now!  :D

Well with everyone (well, my brother and I, plus my cousins are almost out of high school now) growing up a lot of the traditions are changing, but a mostly it's timing issues.

We always spend Christmas Eve at my grandma's (mom's mom). There's always a ton of food, but not a sit-down, hearty meal. We'll have deli trays and appetizer-y foods and sweets that you eat throughout the day. We usually play board games, and sometimes go outside to play around (it's Alabama, so it's not very cold, no snow though  :( ). All the kids used to get presents, but now that we're older we stopped that, but everyone has a stocking that my grandma puts a little something in, then we get something for hers.

On Christmas Day we get up and eat breakfast (little breakfast, like cereal or something). We're still in a limbo about if my parents and I should open our presents, or wait until my brother and his wife get there. We'll see this year. Then after presents we go to my other grandma's for Christmas dinner/lunch and visiting. It's a more traditional Christmas dinner with ham and lots of delicious food. After that there's always a lull where not much happens, except for last year, because my SIL went into labor on Christmas, so we spent the night of Christmas and into the next day at the hospital waiting on my niece to be born. She was born on the 26th, so we'll obviously have to have a birthday party this year (and in the future of course.)

I would be finished my Day 1 item if the yarn was 10cm/4 inches longer than it is. *Headdeask* I'll have to search out the other colourway I have in the same brand and see if I can do a contrasting piece so I don't have to frog the whole thing.

I've completely finished 3 smalls, and I'm in mid-progress on the remaining 3 smalls, as well as 1 medium.

:)

Curse having to work so much. I'm looking forward to my days off so I can hit the crafting hardcore (5 days and counting...)

Aww man, that sucks when that happens.

I've started one of the mediums. I looked through my stash, because I wanted to work on a different medium, but I found out that I won't have enough of the color that I need to use first. Shopping trip this weekend! I love excuses to go to the craft store.  :D

I got up to about 75% done on the one medium last night! Then I think I'll start the second large, it's something I've been wanting to make for awhile. Even though this one isn't for me, maybe it'll motivate me to make one for myself.  ;)

I've temporarily put aside my large. I'm getting bored with it and while I know it'll look awesome when it's done its just not holding my attention. I'm now working on a small. There's something very satisfying about being able to whip out a project in no time.

I am sure I will love it!  I whipped out two more smalls and about 1/2 a medium last night since I FINALLY got my supplies in the mail and I have ordered the stuff for my large (partner and I decided to trade one large and do a medium instead)  So far then I have completed 2 mediums and 1/2 of a third and 5 smalls are done.  I am planning on finishing all the mediums this weekend so I can concentrate on the large once the supplies come.

I'd go by what you think your partner would like. If how it's coming out isn't bad, and fits their taste, then go for it!

I've been crafting away this afternoon, and am about 60% done with the second large! It definitely fits the colors that Dolly Mixx said she likes, it's crazy bright!

I finished another small item and I LOVE how it came out.  It was a bit more labor intesive then I had expected but I think I am going to make another one or two of them.

The supplies for my large item were shipped on Friday so I hope to get them this week!  I only have two more mediums and the large to work on.

Wow! I think I know who's going to be sending first!

I spent some more time tonight working on the second large. I finished the second section of it, so there's one last part to finish up. I'd say I'm about 85% complete. Then I'll probably finish up the rest of the mediums, and save the smalls for last. I like to get the larger projects finished first so I know I won't run out of time.

I just can't find one of the supplies I need for one of my smalls. :( Maybe I need to rethink. Except for that the crafting is going smoothly, four smalls are finished, two and a half mediums are done and I've started on both larges.

ok so one of my larges definitely didn't work out like I wanted it to  :'(  but I've thought hard for a couple of days and sudden inspiration has struck me and I'm in love with my new idea...now I just have to order the supplies I need for this bigger better project.

I was hoping to send out a little early just to make extra sure my package got to my partner on time, but I think it's worth the sacrifice to get this large completed. I think she'll love it.

Getting through the rest of my mediums is starting to drag but I just need to grind it out. I can't wait to put everything together.

At least I'm done with all my smalls  ;D

I'm still working on my 2 remaining mediums and have a little more to do on one large and a whole other large to get started on (waiting on ordered supplies).

Now I'm trying to think of creative ways to wrap all this up. Ideas? Links?

My large isn't done yet. I underestimated how long it was going to take and I had exams to study for. I am definitely making progress though.

I was a tad overwhelmed by my large at first but it is coming along nicely and I plan to have it finished this weekend.  I actually love it so much I am planning on making 4 more as gifts for some family.

I finished another small! I have 3 smalls left to make, 2 mediums to finish, and a couple of things to buy, and then I'm done! I can't make two of the smalls or completely finish the one medium until I go supply shopping again though, I thought I had something in my stash but I don't. But, I should be getting what I need this weekend!

I'm having problems with a small and a medium. I can't seem to get the instructions for the small one right. ??? For the medium one I was planning to buy a half finished item and embellish, but I can't find what I need anywhere. So now I need to make it from scratch, which all of a sudden turns it into a large...
But on the bright side, sheepBlue will have 6 smalls 3 mediums and 3 larges to look forward to!  ;D

woot! aren't I the lucky girl?  ;D

I am sooooooo close to being done. I only have one medium to finish up and then my last large to do (though I don't know how close to being done that'll be --- this is gonna be the hardest item to do for me).

I'm heading out of town this week on top of that - I'm visiting my family and friends in Seattle for the rest of the week. I'll be back on Sunday though, and then it's back to crafting full force!

(I'm excited too - I'm gonna raid my craft supply that I left behind when I moved out - I know there's some good stuff there that I'm totally going to use).

Is there any greater agony than realizing that one has to frog the last two hours of work?  (Big sigh.)

I'm having problems with matching thread though. A lady from my quilting group is coming to my aid. I had hoped to finish a large yesterday though and I got almost nothing done instead.

Wow! There's still almost half a month of crafting time left! I made some more progress on one of the mediums yesterday. Because I'm creating my own pattern as I go along for it, I'm pretty sure it should be qualified as a large by now.  ::) Oh well, it can be the last medium opened!

So how's the gallery for this going to work? Is it going to be like the big 12 days, where we each have our own post that we put everything in, or will it be like a normal gallery where we just add on to the end of the thread?

wow a sender?! i feel like such a slacker.

me too, so I finished up the medium that decided it wanted to be a large! Now I have one medium and four smalls left, as well as a few non-crafted things to buy and I'll be set!

With a little hand sewing today, I'll be half done. One large, two mediums and three smalls. I think I'm going to have to start three more mediums though and see which one wants to become a large. Starting the final cull of ideas.

As to the gallery, I like both actually. A big post at the front is good but its nice to see the posts go up in order to. Too much work?

Wow, we really are closing in on the sendout deadline! But I'm not really stressed, I think the crafting time span for this swap has been perfect. I'll spend this evening fixing details on my two almost finished mediums. Then I only have a large to go! And one small, but I plan on buying that one.

On Saturday I have plans to go to a Christmas market/fair that usually has lots of interesting, and some quite crazy, handmade things. Last year there was a lady who made jewelry, tiny earrings and pendants, shaped like animals or holiday motifs from a paste based on chewed bread mixed with glue! Can't wait to see what they have this year. ;D
Maybe I'll find something suitable for this swap...

I'm almost done! I restarted one of the mediums, because I just didn't like the way it was working out. I got together a small tonight (it's supplies rather than a crafted item). Tomorrow I'm planning on making the last small, and then sometime over Thanksgiving break I'll go shopping for the last bits and shall hopefully send on Monday! Hopefully it doesn't cost an arm and a leg, and gets there as fast as Dolly Mixx's got to me!

Because I can't resist the lure of putting up a picture...

Here's what I found when I opened the box today! Dolly Mixx, can I open the card now, or should I wait until I open the first/fifth/last present? I don't want to ruin any of the surprises!

I went shopping on the way home from school today, and got the rest of what I need to send! A little more crafting (which I'm going to do after I finish typing this), some wrapping, some card-writing, some packing, and I'll be good to send!

Okay, I'm bored now. Is there a gallery? Is anyone going to be naughty and open their pressies early so we can all look? Will my pressies arrive soon so I can shake and poke them a bit? They're not breakable are they? If so, which days in particular should I be gentle with???

Okay, I''ll just go hang out near the mailbox now before I get rapped over the knuckles with a big stick by TAOJ.

Sansa, behave  ;)

I will put the gallery up closer to the 14th, probably next week.

Astareal, if you look on the website of the company you mailed with it should have an area where you can type it in, you'll then know when its delivered.

I will be around tomorrow, but away again on Friday and Saturday. My lasik did not go as smoothly as planned and I have to go for surgery again on Friday. So I would really appreciate it if you have not yet sent to do so ASAP! and let me know.

Good luck with surgery!  For some reason my tracking number is saying it doesn't exist!  I scanned the receipt though and sent it to my partner so she can rest assured I really did send!

If you used the automated postage thing it won't register prolly until it's leaving the building.

ditto on the good luck for the second time around, i'm so sorry it didn't work out the first time.

Yeah, that's why I'm glad that my package is at my house and I'm up at school. I may be tempted, but I don't have access to it! I won't have access to it again until it's almost time to start opening it, and I think I'll be able to control myself for those couple days.   :P

I recieved! My fiancé suggested he'd bring everything to work so that I wasn't tempted to open them early. Bah, like I have no self control! I think he's just trying to get his hands on the presents! ;)
Although I must admit I have been shaking them carefully and squeezing a little here and there... But most of them are neatly wrapped in square boxes so I haven't really been able to make any guesses...

I'm still waiting for my "big" box with days 11 - 1 to come. I'm getting a little anxious - I wish my tracking number showed me more than "exported from Sweden"  :-\

But at least it takes the temptation away from peeking. I just hope when it arrives someone at the house takes it inside right away. The snow has decided to finally descend upon Ann Arbor, and it's very cold and wet outside.

I've never gotten a tracking number when I've sent abroad previously so I was really excited that I'd be able to track the package this time. But apparently it's not possible to track the package after it has left the country. What kind of a tracking number is that?  ???
Your package should be fairly safe even if it's wet outside, there's A LOT of tape on that box! As long as it isn't left in a big puddle that is.

I hate that tracking numbers never work for overseas. It's one reason I don't like to send out of the country. The price doesn't help.

I am so HAPPY! My package Finally arrived!

Seriously, I was starting to get paranoid that it was lost in the mail or something.

So as I was opening the box to make sure all the presents weren't damaged or leaking or something, one of the boxes kind of popped open (the pink one). I swear I instantly shut my eyes, and closed the box lid without peeking.

...though I really wanted to  ;D

I can't wait for Sunday to get here so we can all start opening some presents!

(P.S. I LOVE the wrapping paper so much. I'm totally saving it all for future projects. Also, varandra - clues are just mean...now I'm pondering what each and every one of those presents could be..I hope I can sleep tonight)
