Items in the package:
Little doll apron
Basket with witch legs dangling.
Apron for me from special Oz flannel fabric that is SUPER cute
resin magnet with rainbow inside, I love rainbows
Teeny Tiny bottle with GITD glitter with "I Spy" diploma, heart, cross, blue gingham, I'm still looking for Toto.

I agree. It was very clever. And she didn't just pimp the basket she filled it. And all the pockets. Its a mountain of stuff. I had trouble trying to get it all in one shot. Even trying to get reasonable size groupings.

haha my bad, but I will say what made the poppet amazing was the apron it was wearing. I just got confused and didn't read the list of items. haha

Thanks, guys, I know things were sort of dorky, but that's me, a big dork! That poppet really does look adorable with the apron on and the basket on her lap, maybe you've started a trend, Sasha!

And...*slapping forehead*...I don't know why in the world I didn't decorate the other side of that tote bag, argh!

Title: Re: The All Things Oz Swap Gallery
Post by: sactownsue on October 03, 2008 04:37:20 PM
If you're saying dorky as in not good.... Based on the swap package I have to disagree with you. It's a great swap package. It felt like christmas and birthday and I had great fun opening all the packages. I love the way you had a doll in each of the pockets that matched the image on the pocket. I love the little bunnies that are pretending to be the characters in the story. I'm still trying to decide what I'm going to use the precious stickers on. The lollipop lip gloss didn't photo well in my photos but is tooooo cute.

Shall I go on?

I feel really, really bad that I have not shipped yours yet, but I'm hoping when you see the package you will forget and forgive. I think the large I'm sending you  is pretty spectacular and hope you will too. And it's still not done yet...

You can be a dork if you want to be but if you are a dork it's not a bad thing!

Can you tell I'm feeling a bit better and have a case of typing diarrhea? Back * *ing the large for Dawt. Some things can't be rushed.

I thought about using the OG doll but she is big and I was trying to get everything in as few pics as possible to make it easier on the ppl that don't have high speed. Or are weird and don't like pics... Chantilly Poppet loves having her pic taken and loved the new stuff. The apron fits her perfectly and the fabric is really special. Dawt obviously fussy cut the fab so that Dorothy is in the middle. Sat or Sun I'll take a pic on the OG doll I need to change her clothes so she doesn't clash. Poppets like posing nekkid!!! She's nekkid under the apron.   :D

Tell Chantilly Poppet that my girl Agnes Poppet would like to barrow her Apron..She is Pink and would love to sport her apron nekkid too....ROTFL

She is sporting her black Marilyn dress now but would love to barrow Chantilly's OZ Apron

My girl Nezbut made her for me...She is my first poppet adn the heart and soul of my craft room...I mean her area she allowes me to craft in LOL

nezbutt is very skilled. She makes awesome poppets and your is quite lovely. I love Agnes' hair. I think Chantilly and Chelsea (myOur Generation doll) would kill me if that apron left the house. I might be able to borrow it long enough to trace it tho... Maybe when they go to sleep... You're on your own with the fabric. I bet Agnes loves her new room.

Haha...SHe does indeed love her room and let me in to play with her....My sister is sad she does not have a poppet...I told her get some skillz and she can have one ROTFL...I got a Nezbut and she made me my beautiful Agnes  She is named after her Nezbut

P.S. Thanks for making me feel so good about our swap! Mmmmwaaaaaah!

Dawt, I finally got a chance to look at the pics of my swap package on your flickr. Your pics are far better than any I could take. Dorks-R-us, yeah.

For anyone who hasn't looked at them yet Dawt has about a dozen pics of the items she crafted and bought for me. The link is posted.

Due to technical difficulties I will be posting the goodies I sent to KraftKT

A Shrinky Dink poppy necklace and Earring Set. I did not think this was going to turn out as well as it did it was really hard to give up:

Magnets with images from the Wizard of Oz and a Wicked:

And my favorite. The story of this is that I made the ruby slipper out of polymer clay and then had no clue what to do with it. So when I went to Michael's to buy red glitter I saw this box that looks like a book and I just knew what to do:

And the front and back:

My package is finally on its way to babalina58! Thank you, partner, for being so patient. Because I've never posted pictures, I'm trying a couple of teaser pics for you. I'm still working on resizing my pics of the things you sent me.

Let's see if this works  :)  Sorry if the second one is big. I'm still trying to figure this out.

Title: Re: The All Things Oz Swap Gallery

woooow those teasers are awesome!! I would have to make some teasers too!! (evil laugh)

Title: Re: The All Things Oz Swap Gallery
Post by: jemmy on October 07, 2008 01:36:18 PM
I think I have this figured out enough to finally post pictures of the goodies babalina58 sent.

First is a tin Wizard of Oz sign. I've always wanted one of these but was too frugal (cheap) to buy one.

Next, a Dorothy tote bag. I love tote bags and use them all the time. This will be a great addition.

A little tote with Wizard of Oz note cards. They're too cute to send to anyone. I want to frame them instead. Front and back of the tote:

The cards:

And I didn't see the jewelry at first because they were in a little bag tucked in with the cards. I love them.

And I can't believe I forgot to take pictures of one of my favorite things. Babalina58 sent me pre-cut quilt squares for a lap quilt. The fabrics are Glinda on a light background and her wand on a pink background. I took the fabric out to see if it matched a third fabric and forgot to take pictures. I'll post pics later.

Thanks, babalina58, for being a great partner. This is my first swap and I was nervous but now I see why you love swapping so much. I just hope you like the things I sent you. Thanks again for everything. I love it all!

Received from KraftyKT

a little tin with the yellow brick road on it, a ruby slipper key chain, a black and white bracelet, and technicolor if I only had a heart earrings (which I can't wear since I don't have pierced ears but my friend's sister will absolutely love them so I'll give them to her to enjoy):

And then inside the tin two sparkley magnets

It's all great thanks!

I just received from elmpixie!!  I got some great stuff!  Elmpixie, you are an artist.  I wish I could draw as well as you do (and on fabric, no less!).  Anyway, on with the pictures!

First is a cute little notebook with a "Wicked" side and a "Tin Man" side.  Elmpixie says it's for both sides of my thoughts... muahhahahaha!

Next is a bracelet with slots for pictures of my family.  It says "There's no place like home..."
True that!

And last but certainly not least is a thread catcher!  Ok, I've never heard of these, but it is a really great idea and something that will definitely help me keep all my sewing machine area neater!  The top part is like a bean bag and the bottom is a little baggie.  I love it!  And it's my favorite color  :)

Thanks, elmpixie!  This was a great swap!

WOOOOOOW!! is that an official flying monkey uniform!?? it is awesome!!!

Title: Re: The All Things Oz Swap Gallery
Post by: piratelibrarian on October 13, 2008 07:58:14 AM
Yeah...the hoody is at least loosely inspired by the flying monkey costume from the movie - were I any good at direct translations of anything I'd be working for the UN ;)

Here's a pic of the full front with my son in it.  He wants one now too.

It was a spur of the moment flash of inspiration that came to me at the fabric store to make it so when I was buying I was going by my memory image of the costume and not the real deal.  I completely forgot about the white bits which would have made it more obviously flying monkey-esque.  I'd never really worked with polar fleece before this project.  It was very forgiving in ways I hadn't imagined and unforgiving in ways I thought I had covered.  I think next time I choose to applique fleece to fleece I'll use quilter's spray adhesive or something to stabilize it.  If you lot have any suggestions in that capacity, I would appreciate them!

Post by: piratelibrarian on October 13, 2008 10:08:52 AM
Yeah...if you look at Myrna's shots of it you'll see there are little red wings on the back  :D

I actually bought grey for the wings but I wasn't happy with the hue and thought the red went better with the stylized look of the rest of it.

Thanks for posting the pictures so quickly! I'm glad you like it! I wish I could have send it in the Dorothy basket I had, but the post office wouldn't take it unless I put it in a huge box that cost a lot. Also, in case you couldn't tell, I didn't make the dog.  ;)

I was also going to send the picnic set with full silverware, but then I got worried about sending sharp implements (even plastic ones) in the mail. So I just left it at a spoon.

I'm excited to get Mirchita's--we had a post office glitch that was my fault. I'm sorry!  :-[ I know I'll get it and I'll post pics as soon as I do.

OK, here are the pics. If I end up with a weird looking post, it's only because I am still new at posting pics.

Here are the ruby red slippers Mirchita crocheted for my daughter--on my daughter's feet. She loves them!

And here are the three wonderful jewelry items--ruby slipper earrings, a tin man cell phone charm, and a charm bracelet with emerald gems, a Toto dog, a slipper and other cute charms:

The next four pics are the adorable purse Mirchita made. It's reversable and it has a black side for the wicked witch and her catchphrase and a blue checkered side for Dorothy and her catchphrase. I LOVE it. I can choose which side I want to show, depending on if I'm in an evil mood or a nice mood. Heh!

I love all of it--you are so talented, Mirchita! Thank you!!

So here's what I sent:

crocheted Scrabble tile pillows that spell Oz

eco-shopping bag in the colors of Dorothy's dress with a polyclay ruby slipper charm (the yarn is cotton and stretches to hold a lot of groceries)

polyclay Tik-tok and Patchwork-Girl-inspired magnets

I had fun doing this swap!  :D

Very, very cool, and how original, fantastic job!

Hmm...for some reason I quit getting message from this thread and had no idea all of this was going on. I just went back to work (part-time) after being out of the swing of things for a few  years, so my schedule's been wonky and I haven't had the luxury of browsing Craftsters like I used to. :(

Anyway, I finally realized I should answer the posts in one message instead of posting a bunch, sorry about that.

Merchita & elliemom: I love the picnic set, how ingenious! I think the plastic utensils was a great idea because who wants to have to worry about keeping track of real ones when you're out and about like that. Plus, it made the package that much more lighter, so out of practicality came genius. And the bag, that rainbow fabric is perfect. The ruby slippers are ADORABLE, I want a pair! The jewelry is perfect, and the purse...fantastic! I love that it's reversible, how clever! What wonderful packages, you two!

GrannysAnnie: Again, genius on the Scrabble pillows, I just might have to make a pair! And yet another great bag, I bet it gets a ton of use, love the little ruby-red. Your poly art is OZsome, what a lucky partner!

Everyone is putting great packages together. Quilt! Scrabble tile pillows!

Just to let everyone know... I have not fallen off the edge of the planet into the abyss. Although I feel a bit that way. Sinus infection is finally clearing. It's been a rough year for me and Craftster is my, one of my, grounding force. Hate to think of where I'd be without ya'll. I feel like I have about 10 brain cells left and they aren't firing in sync. It's not easy to type with tears in ones eyes.

Dawt, whyme, I'm embarrassed at how long it is taking me to get this package together. If you don't have it by Christmas feel free to send the flying monkeys after me.

Soooo I got to go to a special preview opening of the National Museum of American History yesterday and I saw THE ruby slippers! I'd seen them before since I've been going to the museum since I was a little kid but this was apparently my first time taking a picture of them since apparently I don't have pictures of them from before, and obviously this is my first time seeing them in their newly renovated home. Thought you would appreciate so here's me sharing:

Oh and I may totally be up for a round two

It looks incredible. I don't know if you remember it before but the NMAH was so cramped and hard to navigate. They've opened it up completely and they've finally done the Star Spangled Banner complete justice. I was completely taken away when I saw the exhibit. I interned there this summer so I'd gone on hard hat tours of the museum under construction so I had an idea of what to expect even with the SSB but when all the artifact are in place it's incredible, especially with the flag

So...Grand Rapids, Minnesota, my hometown, is "the birthplace of Judy Garland."  Its a town of about 8,000 and she only lived there for two years after she was born, but we milk it for all it's worth.  There are at least two Judy Garland museums and a few murals on the sides of buildings and a Judy Garland festival every year where you can see "The Wizard of Oz" for free at the movie theater.  Some of the munchkins that are still alive and can fit into their costumes come.  There are other events, too, but since I lived there I never really went to any.  One of the museums is in the house where she lived and one of my classmates lived in that house until they decided to turn it into a museum.  Oh, and there's a yellow brick road in the middle of town, too.

So a couple of summers ago, a private collector loaned one of the Judy Garland museums a pair of Ruby Slippers.  (There were more than one pair used in the filming of the movie.)  And they were stolen!  It was totally a lack of security and they were never recovered.  Not something a small town wants to be known for.

LOL...They did use several pair of Ruby Red HOWEVER it was as they were not comfy and the "ONES" that fit and were most comfy and were used in the majority of the movie are in the American history museum on loan. I have to say YOU SHOULD POST PICS we would love to see your sweet little town...I want to see it...please please...

I don't really have any pics, myself, but some Google searching has turned up a couple of good ones.

The house where she lived, where the museum is now

Old Central School (You can see a little of the Yellow Brick Road in the Corner)

Signs

Better pic of the Yellow Brick Road

One of the murals

This might be the best photo.  The sign that is now outside the Judy Garland Museum.  It used to say the dates the slippers would be there, but now it says...

They aren't on loan the NMAH owns them that's just me being anal  ::), and the ones in the collection have felt on the soles which makes the curators think they were used for the dancing scenes. I think i heard something also about the slippers not necessarily being a pair. As in (and lets see if I can explain this without sounding confusing) since the're were so many pairs of the ruby slippers that they're one shoe from two different pairs....i think that's what i meant to say...lol. Anyways I don't know that for sure I'll have to research that.

That is not a TV Heat would distroy my big TV that is really a painting...LOL...

Me being me just wanting to know WHY IT IS THAT PEOPLE can be in a swap, Get great stuff, and NOT POST PIC of it?? I think it is on the list of 10 things in life that makes me angry...

I will no longer issue feedback for any of my swaps in the future that the person does not have the curtsy to provide pics....SO people will be FORCE to take pics BEFORE they ship so if partner does not post in a reasonable time I would think for the most part 72 hours and post your pic if you would like feedback...

too many are getting away with this in all the swaps I have seen lately...

FINALLY posting photos from SacTownSue's Ozzy goodness she sent me. I'm sorry for taking so derned long, extra apologies go to my fantastic swap partner. Warning: you will be oh-so jealous (but in a good way!) ;)

The first thing I saw was this huge yellow satiny zippered bag, the details of which are astounding. SacTownSue is professional all the way, just look at the luscious red lining! Notice the type-written tags that accompanied each item, so creative (and yes, I happen to have a couple of pairs of ruby reds I can use this for).

Inside the 'yellow brick' was yet another bag, this one with an adorable blue-gingham lining and just the right size for makeup.

Inside of the red zippered pouch was my very own personal rainbow!

Also inside the red pouch was my most favorite of all gifts, a glass pendant with soldered edging. Not only did it have Dorothy on one side and Toto on the other, but it also says, "Dawt," my user name! As if that wasn't enough to make me pee myself from the excitement of that, the cord is adjustable, man, she thought of EVERYTHING!

My partner is also a comedian, look what she wrote about Dr. Oz, so funny! I loves me some sparkle, too!

All the loot together:

Thank you again, SacTownSue, for all the hard work and love you put into our swap. I will cherish my gifts, always!

Dorothy
