CLOSING IN 12 hrs from now - that's about 5am Thursday, California time.

Swap name: Roller Derby Style Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: Kitten Wrangler
Sign-up date range: August 6 - August 20
Date to send item by: September 17

Limited to a certain number of people?: NO

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? NO

Age Requirement: Over 13.

Swap Organizer herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES
- Participant has agreed that he/she is at least 13 years old: YES

Details of swap:
Are you a roller derby girl? Or do you just admire their quad-rocking, booty-blocking style?? Well... Auntie Samantha wants you to come and join in on this swap! Make some badges, or long socks, or armwarmers, or something trendy to put your mouthguard in. T-shirts, kit-bags, first-aid pouches! Warming/cooling packs for those rink-induced injuries!! Whatever your derby-fevered mind can concoct for the greater glory of the sport.

You will be making a total of 3 roller-derby themed items for your partner:
1 Large item
1 Medium item
1 Small item

You are welcome to adjust how much and what you send, but ONLY with the agreement of your partner. It's emphasised everywhere, and I'll emphasise it again: Communication is key! Communication is important!!

Also note:
This is how I roll as organiser
You will PM me a minimum of 4 times. There are not words enough to describe how much I detest having to look through pages of posts to find information.

** PM me when you've made first contact with your partner.
** PM me between Sept 10 and Sept 15 to let me know if you'll send out on time.
** PM me when you've sent, and include the DC# if you're posting within the US. If you're not posting within the US, hold onto your receipt! I cannot stress that enough.
** PM me when you've received.

Asides from that - PM me if you've got a worry or concern about anything. And it goes without saying that you should communicate with your partner as well.

If it all goes wrong - you must let your partner and me know if you're going to miss the sendout deadline. Failure to let me know WTF is going on before Sept 20 will put you straight into my sin-bin. It smells like an unopened kit bag. Trust me - you don't want to be there.

If you want to participate; cut, paste, and fill in the questionnaire, then send it to me!! (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=47228)

I sent in my questionnaire!

If anyone out there is interested in knitting something for this swap or in general, I thought I'd mention that one of my favorite team's Naptown Roller Girls, Joan of Dark, wrote a knitting book inspired by Roller Derby, called Knockdown Knits.

I'm not a roller derby gal - but am a skater - and am turning my boys in to skaters too.... quad style.  I am soooo not in to in line... I just hate the feel of them!
Can us lowly non derby folk join in the roller fun?
I'd salivate over a pattern for skate spats - and would sew them up in a heartbeat - I have been looking for a free pattern online for them with no luck :'(
I hate white skates.

Holy @#$% that is awesome! I wish I could see some of the projects though, none of the big book sites show any of the inside pages.

Seems like one of the Stitch 'n' Bitch books has a pattern for knit kneepad covers :D

Don't know if this would work for you, but there is a tutorial here on craftster for button-up spat type legwarmers. They're really easy. Maybe you could use them as a starting point for making your own style.

Oh, and I'm not on a team, either.

I'd have to really learn pattern drafting quickly to adapt that pattern - I am so not there yet... some day I will come upon it - and then I will make them for every skater I know..!

I suddenly want to own this book very very badly. And I've always loved on the spats that someone else mentioned above.

i am dancing around this swap! i'm in the middle of about 7 swaps on an ATC swap site right now, so hopefully i can get those all knocked out first. i'll come back here and sign up for this one and it'll be my first  ;).

i love the question about clockwise crossovers! when i first started skating and was working on mine, i had the clockwises down and toiled over the counters. i guess i'm just special in a short bus skater kind of way.  ;D

I spent an hour this evening, weaving drunkenly from side to side across the rink, trying to crossover with my left leg in order to move to the right. Eeeesh. I think I was getting there.... if you ignore the falls I took. On my new kneepads, by the way, which made falling such a pleasurable experience that by the end of the night I was doing show-off falls.

Finish up your ATCs soon!!!

Embrace the falls! :D

I had to learn to do that when I played volleyball and it made it a lot easier to play. Different sport but ya know :)

So - while we're waiting for time to pass, let's shoot the breeze...

Anyone actually brave enough to wear hotpants on the rink? Almost everyone in my league does, but I can't bring myself to wear them. At the moment, I'm sticking with my cut-off army pants - though I wouldn't be averse to a little skirt.

And I wonder if it would be possible to wear spats on the rink, over my skates....

haha I'm not brave enough for the hotpants yet either...I'm waiting until my thighs tone up a bit from all the skating I've been doing! So far I have been borrowing my husband's baggy running shorts, which are soooo flattering!

punkrockpaperscissors - you can ask your organiser to update your feedback - I just had a gawk in the gallery, and it's obvious that your partner has received and posted pics and everything.

And while your organiser is updating, you can fill out the questionnaire and send it to me!

I've settled on a compromise at the moment. I bought 2 pairs of baggy running shorts. The expanse of white cellulite-ridden thigh that these things display disturbs me a little, but I'll get over it - or just buy some leggings.

ha! that's what i did. i've been the only one skating around in baggy cotton pants and they've been *killing* me. it's wicked hot where we train, so i finally gave in and bought a pile of leggings and a couple pairs of shorts. it's mildly embarrassing, but it's a lot more comfortable. once my legs get nice and toned though, i'll be more than happy to wander about in see-through fishnets and teeny-tiny nothingness hot pants.  :o)  any day now...

*sniffles* *I'm the only person talking*

Where're my ladies at?? We are all so quiet, we MUST be busy crafting. Or watching the girls on the rink go round and round and round.

:D Our league's first bout is October 4. I can't wait - I've never seen a bout before!! (I signed up after a boring day at work; I read about the VRDL in the paper and thought "Well - that's much more fun than being a keyboard jockey.")

Aaaaannnd.... last night when I opened up my kit bag I got hit with a great idea for an item for my partner!! By my standards, I am FLYING with the crafting for this swap. I'm normally a last-minute sort of girl.

Quickie Organiser Request:

ficklevillain, Trish82288, stitchintheditch & ThatsWhatSheSaid - can you guys please give me a holler - lemme know that you're in contact with your partner and happily crafting away?

GYAH! How frustrating!!

I now keep my own measurements in a PM that I wrote and sent to myself. Now I have the numbers handy to give out whenever someone needs them.

I hope your partner gets back to you soon, Feast Your Eyes - I'd give it until the weekend and then make what you think will fit, or try something else.... g'luck - PM me if you've got any concerns.

Feast Your Eyes' partner here -- back from the sad land of crashing, then crashed computer.

However, with the computer being issued, I've had time to be creative -- and it's extending past crafting and into getting ready for practices to start back up.  The past week has been ridiculously hot and I have had no urge to skate in the heat, but I have new skates and needed to break them in (and work on balance so I don't fall on my rear), so I had the brilliant (or incredibly stupid) idea to do dance dance revolution in my skates.  The skates are now more comfortable, I'm more confident in my balance and everyone I've told my brilliant idea to is quite amused by me.

Dance Dance revolution??? Huh?

I had plans of practicing my stepping to the music of Zorba the Greek/Never on a Sunday. Youtube it - you'll see what I mean.

And I hate computer crashes. I hate them so much that I have two spare computers at home in case something goes wrong with my big baby..

I've heard from about half of you.... and I'm getting nervous because I've heard nary a peep from the other four.

So. PLEASE either comment here or PM me to tell me how you're going.

Everyone else please remember that you need to PM me with a progress update sometime shortly after the 10th. It's mentioned in the swap guidelines, and it's the sort of thing that will help determine your communication level in the swap feedback.

I'm loving the ideas that are coming up. I was working on one on the way home from training last week, and one of the other derby girls said that she'd like one as well.

Ossum!

There was a brief doco about the Brisbane rollergirls on TV tonight, and after watching it, I went straight to youtube to start watching more derby vids! I can't wait till they let me actually scrimmage....

Okay ladies - it's the time of the send outs.

You have a choice: Show me your DC#, or come up with a creative excuse as to why you need a few more days. You have, oooh, let's say 72hrs from the time I post this comment.

pd8151 I'm sure you realise this, but I'll just reiterate - you don't need to get delivery confirmation. Sending internationally you just need to keep your receipt. If something goes wrong, scan or photograph the receipt clearly and voila! there's your proof of sending.

Here's my creative excuse. Yes. In interest of just and fair full disclosure apparently it turns out that it takes WAY longer than I had assumed it would to craft up my ideas.

The fact that it took me (and I'm not joking here) almost 3 HOURS to turn a tube of fabric inside out, sorta shows off how badly I planned my time. Or how inept I am at fabric manipulation.

I am a bad woman, and I'm mortified that pd8151 has to wait a little longer.

I will, however, start up a gallery now.
Here it is (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=269493)
And here's hoping for some derby goodness very shortly. :D

Well, I will be sending today (hopefully) or tomorrow at the latest. We have had friends from Galveston (flooded out) staying with us. To go from a house of 2 people 2 dogs and 1 cat to now 4 adults, 2 children, 4 dogs and a cat has somehow taking away my quiet crafting time. I really just need a few finishing touches, now if I could just get a couple hours to myself..........

Hi Everyone!

I'm wondering if anyone is intrested in doing another round of a roller derby swap.  I have a post going on the new swap ideas board to see if anyone would be interested.  Feel free to have a look and let me know!
