So I received today, from Fleur_delicious! :D

When I was reading the letter, she told me that "...it turned out a bit bigger than i'd expected! - even if it is a bit crazy/big for everyday wear." I was honestly a little terrified!

But then I open the package and it's SOOO not what I expected, and I LOVEEEE it! Plus, she sent me a delicious chocolate bar along with it...and the entire necklace smells like chocolate!

I immediately got my sister to take some pics, not caring about the lack of make-up or sweaty work appearance. This thing was WAY too good to wait! Sadly, the camera died, and until I get some new batteries, these were the only pics I got.

beautiful, chocolate smelling cutouts (vinyl??) There are little bats too! I freakin LOVE bats!!

And with the flash...

So needless to say, even though I didn't get the best pics... that this is BY FAR, the most intricate/interesting necklace I own, and I LOVE loVE LOVVVEEE it! I'm wearing it out tonight! With a realllyy simple dress or top  :D

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH Fleur! You are amazinggggg! I need to ship yours still, but I hope you like it just as I love mine! ;D

Wow.
Wow. :o
I love all the little details, all the beads and things. You'd have thought just the cutouts would be enough and it'd be too busy, but all the little sparkles work just perfectly.

What's it made of? Is it soft or has it been shaped to fit the neck somehow?

Title: Re: The Gorgeous Choker Swap Gallery
Post by: fleur_delicious on July 25, 2008 10:58:28 AM
ok, WHEW I'm so glad you like it! I was worried that it would be too weird or out there or...you know, whatever. anxiety =) (and thanks, everyone!)

It's actually made of leather. I cut all the pieces and then painted them with a couple coats of resin, because I wanted to stiffen the leather. I realized later that I'd basically "made" vinyl and kinda kicked myself for that. =)

so yes, it's flexible/shapes/bends a little, but it's also stiffer than just plain leather. I really did make vinyl. Still feeling silly about that ...

can't WAIT to see what you made, maehem! =) Oh, and I have some other pics of the necklace - at least one is on my blog, if you want to see:

yaaaaay! I'm so glad you like it!

So this is what the very talented Vedrana came up with, it is beaded loveliness and I am pleased...

The action shot of the cuff! which fits just as snugly:

And last but not least, THE action shot (I too am not wearing make-up!):

It feels dramatic to wear yet it's tasteful and classic, just what I wanted, thank you partner!

I'm right there with you talyra .
I ended up making two as the first one had a few issues with.
I really like what I made but yeah, no where near as intricate as those!

I'm so happy you like it. I tried to make one for myself but it didn't turn out as pretty as the original Clarity choker (yes, that's the name and I'm sticking to it).

And, Clarity, you have lovely hair. So glossy it outshines the necklace  :D

I adore it, the next morning I just keep looking at it and she named it - thank you!

Lol no it doesn't, it's camera flash (in normal light it's a haystack).

I adore this choker, as we have similar tastes; the Clarity Choker (!) is like the hifi version of what I wanted to do and I'm afraid mine for Cayca is the lofi version - yes girls, swap anxiety lives  :-\

The 'Clarity Choker' Rocks! It's what I wanted to do...what I tried to do...however this kind of beading is not my forte! ;)

Stunning!

So I got home from Florida yesterday evening and tore into my swap package from Nutella...and just about died from the gorgeousness of it all.

A knit, lacework, beaded choker in purple.  I am going to be the envy of every other girl in my class when fall semester starts.  "Ooh, lookit me!  My neck is all warm and stylish, and yours is just cold.  *evil cackle and running*"

Ahem.

Sorry.  Sometimes I get a little carried away.  Here it is, in all its loveliness!

Close-up. Lookit the pretty beads...

Action shot!  It fits perfectly, and it's soooo beautiful.

Thank you so much, Nutella, I adore it!  ;D

Wow. I like this purple one. Nutella, how on earth did you put the beads in it? And the colour... Just fantastic.

Thanks! I used Regia Stretch and overdyed the yarn with purple - the variegation was already there, but the yarn was tan and blue, definitely not the colors Altair liked (nor me, the purple is exactly right!)

I put the beads on individually - adding them to each stitch - rather than stringing them on the yarn and pulling up the bead as I needed it. I liked the way they laid on the fabric much better that way.

If I had it to make over again (especially for someone who isn't into super-wide chokers) I'd have only done one center "ribbon" and I would have done it in a yarn that allowed more aggressive blocking, so the zig-zag pattern could show up even more.

I got an awesome package yesterday!

First the choker and earrings
(http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/2723409946/)

And a cute little patchwork-y bag!
(http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/2723395924/)

Another thing I would like to say is that this all came in a very nice package, wrapping and everything. While I do consider myself a good crafter one thing I am not good at is presentation. So I hope my partner will forgive me for just sending my choker without the nice presentation.

Clarity you scored!  That is so intricate and well done!  Good job vedrana!  That took some serious percision (not my strongest trait, I'll work on it!).

And the knitted choker that Altair got from Nutella will brong compliments I'm sure.  Can I have one in brown ;) ?

Hoxierice, who swaped with you?  I love the red and black choker, I would so wear that!

I can't wait to rave over mine from nasty_wench!  She's gonna do the picture posting.

Thank you, Grannystylee.
Hoxierice, that choker you got from Frosty772 is very similar to the two choker's I've made and it looks very elegant yet punkish (and I  l o v e  punkish stuff). I've made mines on nylon but this one seems to me to bi made on wire. Am I right? I suppose it'll keep shape better that way. Frosty, very, very nice work. And the bag... I have a friend who'd love to have it.

Im so glad that you liked the choker!!  Its the second project ive ever completed to I was very very worried about it turning out right.  I swear I spent a week or more trying to find a beaded project I felt comfortable doing (my limited skills that is) with beading.  Im quite pleased with it!!  As far as presentation.  Dont worry about it.  Sometimes I wrap.....Sometimes not like I should.  No biggie!!!  I will try to get a pic of your lovely choker ASAP.

Cayca I have seen some of your necklaces/choker on here!!  Very lovely!!  Its (the one above)is made with Silver Tiger Tail (at least thats what the bead gal told me.... name is not on the roll).  I was a bit worried it was too stiff for the necklace but maybe its meant that way and just my inexperience still LOL.  The bag was made from scraps that I had (and desperately needed to clear out :D)

Thank you everyone!! Im glad you liked it

The choker nasty_wench made looks even better in person if you can believe that!  The tear drop beads are faceted.  I love all the shades of green!  It fits perfeclty, funny thing my first attempt at a project used the excat same ribbon but black!   When my hair is down you only see the beaded part.  This is very well made and so cute!  I'm wearing it to work tomorrow.
The clothes pin doll is adorable!  All packed up pretty and everything, I am very pleased!!

Nutella, I'm so glad you like it!  I hope it fits okay...I was worried about making it too tight.

The beadwork is a type of netting, so I made all the little circles and then sewed them together (I hope they stay together...).  The strap is loomed.

Again, so glad you like it.  *dances*

ok, so i received yesterday, and was so excited, i actually waited until after i showered to open my package so i could put it on and be all clean! i actually got 2 gorgeous chokers from Anya Kase: first a goth inspired one:

it's beaded, and then chained together

i LOVE the button ("Buttons" was what a very dear friend/mentor used to call me) and the clasp is simply an elastic loop that hooks around the button. GENIUS! and so simple to put on...

next is a gold and red beaded one that will match my pirate outfit (for pirate faire :)) PERFECTLY. and gold and red are probably my tow best colors. my boyfriend complemented me on it, said it brought out my eyes (*swoons*) lol.

detail of the clasp

detail of brilliant beadwork

ACTION SHOT. please ignore drugged out look. :)

thank you so so SO much. i am working on yours. thank you for being patient!

I awoke from my cold to see all these beautiful chokers and am awestruck by how talented you all are. I just hope my partner receives hers in Serbia soon. But how can I even begin to match the following:

Frosty772, the red and black is a very pretty combination, Cayca and I both adore those colours and I think it works very well in this choker. The bag is gorgeous too and looks fit to be sold in a world class boutique.

Nasty-w's choker is one I've seen before (secret preview, thanks!) and it is still breathtakingly pretty and feminine. I adore the greens.

Altair, gorgeous beading and colours, very original structure too, I will try and repost the link so that it can have it's place in the gallery with a full pic. Nutella, you lucky girl :)

Anya kase, I am astounded, not 1 but 2 chokers that are so different and chic in their own way. Very, very pretty chain beading on the first one too.

Everyone has been original and inspirational. I am loving this gallery.

The chokers are all absolutely amazing.  I intentionally did not join this swap because I knew anything I could do would way pale in comparison to other people skills.  I am so right, but I am having so much fun seeing what everyone has done.

Title: Re: The Gorgeous Choker Swap Gallery
Post by: Cayca on August 04, 2008 06:55:06 AM
Wow, guys. First I wanted to say how lovely that green choker is. Lovely work, Nasty_wench. How does it close? I can't see what kind of clasp you put.
The necklace Altair made is very interesting. It does look like crochet or knit but the colours are what attracted my attention since I love red and ther are so many shades of red in it.
I didn't want to have a favourite here but one necklace made me jealous. Jealous of Anya Kase who made it and of coldbrains4 who owns it. That beaded chain is so beautiful. I hope I won't be misunderstood - the gold one is very pretty and I know how much time and patience it takes to make one but when I saw the silvery-black one my tongue fell out of my mouth and thank goth I had the keyboard in front of me or it would end up on the floor (very dusty, yuck  ;D).

frosty772, I've never made beadwoven piece on Tiger tail or any similar beading wire. The choker you made seems to me firm but not stiff, but I don't know - hoxierice does  :)

When I saw all these beautiful projects I got so many ideas of what to do next I don't know where to start so I started with buying loads of beads :)

Wonderful works, ladies. We sure all have a lot to be proud of.

Clarity, I can't wait for the postman to come with the choker from you and.

Hey Cayca, the choker closes with a hoop and toggle.

Well I just picked up my package from grannystylee and it is BEAUTIFUL!!!

A sweet card made by her buddy & a cute felt clothespin made by grannystylee.

Yummy laminated vegan recipes from grannystylee's personal stash (we're both vegan), one of her handmade fabric bird broach and a neat felt cupcake pouch.

And the piece de resistance... the beaded crocheted choker! Made in colours that I love! This will match like 90% of my dress up clothes.

Thank you so much!!!!

Now MY mouth dropped open, that choker is so beautiful and so different to any I've seen before. I really like the natural and organic feel to it and the colour combinations are gorgeous. What adorable extras too, I think that the vegan gifts you both gave eachother are thoughtful and sweet as well.

my gooossshh! I was unexpectedly gone for a week, without a computer, and come back to see some of the most beautiful chokers! ...I personally have not sent mine yet because of some technical difficulties... (badddd alysssaa :-X) BUT dang! My swap anxiety is KILLER now  :-[

All this intricate weavings, and crocheting... wow, you ladies have really inspired me to learn some new techniques!

I adore the green choker, nasty_wench, it's beautiful! And altair, that necklace is truly one of a kind, it's SO intriguing, and I love the colors! Anya Kase, The second pink choker IS absolutely stunning! I wish I could see more detail, it looks so amazing! And hoxierice, wow. That's beautiful, and REALLLY makes me want to learn to crochet, or knit, or however you did that!  :P

GOOD JOB SO FAR LADIES! I'm super impressed at this supposedly simple swap! :D

Post by: hoxierice on August 06, 2008 11:47:02 AM
Thanks you guys! And it looks good on you frosty, it looks tight and not bubbly like I worried it would.

I modified the pattern from two patterns. The top part (the beads and open work) came from Knit and Crochet with Beads (http://www.amazon.com/Knit-Crochet-Beads-Lily-Chin/dp/1931499446/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1218048193&sr=8-1) the "Harry Winston..." necklace. The bottom diamond part came from this (http://knitting-and.com/wiki/Diamond_Edging) chart.

You also have to know a bit about working with beads, to add the drop beads you have to figure out how many single beads you need before you come to the "different" bead. That is what I did.

All these chokers are GORGOUS!!!  And they are all so different!

I'm so glad my partners (Coldbrains and Isewcute)  Loved theirs!  I always stress over that kind of thing.  Thanks for all the kudos!

I am sad to say on my recent trip to the land of Disney I have lost my camera. :'(  So I asked ISewCute to post pictures of what she sent me.  They are awesome and I have not taken the beaded one off since I got it.  Okay so that's not true.  I took it off long enough to wear the Wire one! ;D  She did a beautiful job, I love them. ;D

Ok...here are the pics of the pieces I made for Anya Kase. (hope your camera turns up in your luggage or something...)

After 3 days of trying to weave a black beaded gothy choker for Anya Kase, I determined that was not what I was meant to do...and so went with what I know.

Soldered glass pendant on funky strings of beads with matching earrings:

It is reversible...detail side 1...and it's not wonky...just the angle of photo:

detail side 2:

And then the extra piece...resin charms with brushed metal stars & resin soldered to wire frame with matchy match earrings:

What a relief to know that they do fit nicely! ;) They were wicked fun to make & are one of a kind!

ClaraOHara's are very cute too and modern, I think the bitten apple is fun and it's not surprising how much attention it's getting.

Anya Kase Rocks! Not only did she have 2 partners...but she also made each of us 2 chokers!!!  ;D Somebody give that girl an award or something!

You said it, Anya kase produced such variations and the pink swirled one is lush, it really suits you I sew cute.

Hoxierice, I adore and want that choker, so Victorian and pretty and beyond what I did, way beyond... the beading is gorgeous too.

I agree with Anya kase, everything is different, my cup runneth over....

^ We certainly do :D

I received from Not Quite Scooter Trash this morning! She nailed my tastes, my choker is perfect - beautiful and beady and shiny and soo comfy too! It's crocheted with chiffon ribbon and a beautiful pendant and sparkly shiny beads.

(No action shots cos I suck at taking them, but it looks even more gorgeous "on"!)

I got some extras too - a couple of fun knitting needle bangles and a roll of aluminium wire for chainmaille experiments. I was complaining about the lack of availability of anything other than galvy steel in most of the hardware stores round here, so Scooter was kind enough to send me some!

Aren't I lucky! Thanks Scooter, you're such a wicked swap partner!

Wow. I have missed a lot these past few days.

Grannystylee's choker for nasty_wench looks very natural and I love the beads she used.

Claraohara must be very lucky. The lacy choker that reminds me of garter looks so beautiful. The other two are pretty, but this one is my favourite. Part from the edible one  ;D
And the goodies she sent to coco-mac look very edible too. That felt (i guess it's made of felt) choker seems very warm.

What? Anya Kase made four chokers? Girl, you really deserve an award. Lovely work. Pink isn't my colour, but the second one looks so nice I would wear it.

Frosty, you sure are one lucky girl. Very lacy, very nice. And with beads too. I'm jealous of Hoxierice - I wish I knew how to crochet.

I Sew Cute, truly one of a kind chokers (not that others aren't). I love how the strands intersect each other. Or is it just in photo?

When I saw that lacy-beady choker I thought of an eclectic dandy. Modern Marlene Dietrich or something like that. And where is Not Quite Scooter Trash to see how we like her work?

Ladies, if you haven't started to sell your handmade stuff, you really should.

Chiming In!

sorry ive been so MIA ladies...i got back on the 25th and have worked every day since...i was supposed to only have 13 days in a row...but im going on 17...and i have tomorrow also...but then i have two days off, and my last day at this hellish job...thank stars.

im so glad you like it talyra! i started about three different chokers and half made them before i got it just right...and now im thinking ill have to make about 6 more for all of my friends who saw it and wanted yours!

im about to go take pictures...i was hoping to be able to do an action shot...but i look like pure hell and am to the point of not even letting my boyfriend see me until my day off--yes, its bad to the point of wearing makeup for the first time in six months.

i love my choker...its perfection talyra. there are no words to describe it.

CAYCA---i was trying to go for a vintage feel with a modern twist... talyra and i are both metal type girls, so it was just too perfect to not use metal tones.

((updates with pictures asap.))

OKAY! i have a picture...it does it no justice at all...but it does at least show its detail. i especially love the chainmaille and the teardrop...and am just amazed by the fact that the thing in the medal is a camera lense...how cool!?

PICTURE! modeled by my lovely patent leather bar stool.

camera lens?? what? thats so tiny! but how amazinnggg!!! my friend just graduated with her bachelors in photography... she would LOVE something like that! You hhhaavveee to get a close picture of that one! ...please!

scooter, the choker you made is beautiful! i agree with everyone on the whole eclectic feel, i love it!

and YAYYYYY, it says fleur got her choker! i know she lives on the other side of the country from me, so i'll have to be patient to see if she likes it! eeeeeeeeeeep!

The little camera lens was from a 35mm point and shoot I dismantled - there are masses of the things going cheap in the charity shops now cos everyone is going digital and the nicer ones have all sorts of interesting parts inside. I totally forgot to take a photo before I sent, so I can't help out, sorry guys!

Cayca - "Eclectic dandy" - I like that description. Kind of works for how I dress when I can be bothered to make an effort, LOL. Didn't I say Scooter nailed my taste? :D

Scooter - REALLY glad you like yours. I was a bit concerned it wasn't going to be industrial enough, that it was still too "girlie" with the drapey chains. I can't seem to make anything without drapes or dangles of some description ::) Also, I just left a not so fun job so I know how you're feeling, more or less. Least you can count off the days now. *hugs*

ive got the camera on the charger...so i'll be able to use it again tomorrow. ive got to run an errand after work, and then once im home i should be able to toy around with some closeup shots...plus its supposed to be a beautiful day tomorrow, and i can go outside and have natural light, which will help with the photos too.

the chains give it a more feminine without being actually girly feel in my opinion, which i love. im one of those that i go for a nice balance of non-masculine but still tough without being butch...if that makes any sense...i want people to know im a girl...just one who could kick your ass.

i guess the best way to describe it would be to take an example from the eighteen hundreds---history buff moment---during the american civil war, girls who wanted to fight posed as men and went to fight...however most of their commrades knew that they were really women posing as men. im a woman, and love being feminine and all that...i just like doing the "boy" stuff that i grew up with from my brothers--like mosh pits and extreame inline skating---more than the "girly" stuff my parents want of me now--like the prom and cooking.

I sew cute, what kind of clasp did you use for the top one?

Sorry I've been out of town & missed a lot here!

I used a toggle clasp...it's square!  ;)
I hope Anya Kase can find her camera...I'd love to see them in action!

Scooter, very original and individual choker, I like the combination of pendants you used as well.

Talyra, it would be great to get an action shot of that draping chain choker, what a cool idea to use a camera lens too. I'm glad that two girls who appreciate metalwork came up with such different approaches, congrats.

On another note I will be doing a marathon feedback tonight, God willing and I must say, everyone deserves a glowing positive so far, well done girls.

sorry for the huge photo, ladies - I keep resizing the thing and photobucket seems to think this gorgeous choker needs to be shown off in a BIG way.

Isn't it lovely? Okay, okay, it's the one necklace playing with the choker clique, but as I don't wear actual chokers that much, maehem kindly thought of that and made mine longer. I really love it, thank you! It's an antique key, with wood and glass beads strung on twine - so earthy and pretty, it's just perfect for fall! =)

I didn't get pics of all the sweet little extras that she sent, but the felt ornament (shaped like a pretty chandelier!) is hanging from a lantern in my bedroom. The bf hasn't noticed yet ;) I think we'll have to wait until spring to start the tomatoes, because fall frosts hit hard here (and in as little as another 4-6 weeks, we might have our first one), but I know just the little person that might enjoy doing this with me!

thanks, maehem - it was such a sweet package, and a lovely choker!

I adore it! I don't own any key-jewelry, but I have always loved them, so this is like a long-awaited necessary piece! I've never done a lot of wood-bead jewelry, but now I can't for the life of me think why NOT - it's wonderful, isn't it?

aww, maehem, I think you'd better brace for a bunch of orders ;) thanks, gal!

Yeeey. I've finally received my package from Clarity.

Unfortunately my camera didn't like me today and didn't want to make any sharp action shots even with macro mode on. But you can see what I've got and tomorrow I'm going to ask my best mate who is a photographer to take some nice photos of me wearing these lovelies.

And these lovelies are a beautiful lacy choker with hematite gray seeds and matte black faceted beads. It is very soft (I'm used to beads and nylon from the first choker I've made pinching my neck) and I've already sorted out several outfits I'm going to make this choker part of.
Then there is lovely black beaded wire cuff, and I love those dangly rows of beads.
Clarity is a darling for making me my own tiny bat earrings after I commented on the choker Fleur Delicious made for Maehem.

And she even added some pretty beads because she knows how hard it is for me to find beads in Belgrade, and a girl like me can never have too much of red and black beads.

So thank you, Clarity, very much.

I agree, you look cool with it on! I am a tad nitpicky that the central piece which I struggled with/cajoled is not perfect but wow, very nice action shot :)

UPDATE: Coldbrains4 is sending today so the swap is not completely over yet... as opposed to my previous pm.

My boyfriend likes it too. He says that it is sooo "me". So thank you, Clarity.

Hi all,

The talented and generous Anya Kase has a new partner / swap angel. She should hopefully send her choker by tomorrow or Saturday, which means keep your eyes peeled for the last addition next week. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Title: Re: The Gorgeous Choker Swap Gallery
Post by: Anya Kase on September 06, 2008 07:01:15 PM
I know this has been a long wait but here it is.

Clarity was kind enough to be my swap angel and she did a beautiful job!

Here's the first one:

She made a beautiful Victorian inspired pearl choker with just the yummiest dangles and a wonderful bracelet to match (which I haven't taken off) ;D

The second was a very cool, pyrate inspired choker.  It has a dangle that looks like a boat helm and the other dangles have stars at the ends. Its hard to see in the picture but there are gold sequins on the black band that kinda make a bow pattern. (I don't take very good pictures, sorry)

And then she sent a little extra that the DH and I were so excited about!  After much researching on Clarity's part she created me my very own letter of Marque!

Complete with a wax seal!

For those of you that don't know, in Ye olde pyrate days it was not unusual for a king/queen or someone of influence to give a pyrate a letter of Marque that allowed them to "pyrate".  So long as they gave a portion of their booty to the said contractor.
They were no longer pyrates but Privateers in "legitimate employ". One famous example is Sir Francis Drake, who was a privateer on behalf of England and solely attacked Spanish ships.

So now I am a privateer in the employ of Their Excellencies of the Captain's Council  free to attack and acquire all that I deem  Enemies of the Council and Her Grace, The Lady of the Open Water.  ;)

I can't wait to show my letter off at the next renfaire , and I shall frame it as soon as I find a frame worthy of such contents.

I thank you, your Grace, for bestowing upon me such lavish treasures and your permission to go a-pyratin'. (insert deep curtsey)  ;D

"May the wind be ever at your back"

Curtsey returned with a blown kiss.

And that dear ladies is the end of our swap, (except for an addendum from someone in future (Nasty_wench) I shall say no more ;) )

Thank you everyone for joining and I am going to work on that montage soon... it has been ... lovely.

Peace,
