Ooh, I love the idea of this swap. Rainbow things make me so happy! I'm full right now, but if I can get feedback in a timely manner from a couple of other swaps I'm in, I'd love to be a part of it... I'll stay tuned (glad it's not limited to a certain number of people!). :)

Oh, this would be great for me! I just made a rainbow unicorn shirt for my daughter:

https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=256517.msg2866462#msg2866462

I'm also working on my first amigurumi toy--a rainbow octopus!

I declare that if I finish my dissertation chapter before sign-ups are over, I will do this swap. (If I don't, then I have bigger problems than missing out on a craft swap!)

Dude, I TOTALLY <3 rainbows!! I should have another slot free in a little bit, not sure if it will be before the deadline or not...as there is another swap I may want in on...we will see if I come up with enough supplies to Fill A Box...my own FOCR Round 1 should be closed out soon, waiting on ONE more person to receive so I can close myself out and that last person.

Thanks for the question :) No tracking numbers are required for overseas shipping. I just ask that you save your receipt from your post office when you mail the package (if it's international) so, in the case that your package gets lost in the mail, you have proof that you did mail it off. You would prove this by scanning/taking a pic of the receipt and sending it me and your partner.

I've been thinking about this since it appeared, and realized that half the things I craft are rainbow--it's my default color! I seriously love rainbows. And so does my kid. I just have to do this. I've never done a swap before, and I'm still unclear about the mediums and smalls.

So here are some examples of what I understand to be medium and small and you tell me if I'm right.
Medium: a scarf, a purse, an amigurumi toy
Small: a ribbon belt, a hand-embroidered patch, a pencil case, a crocheted flower pin

Am I on the right track?

Also, I was curious if any of the people interested in this swap are Rainbow Girls--as in the Masonic organization. I used to be one about a thousand years ago (well, more like fifteen years ago).

I'm considering this. I'm trying to think of what I could make with rainbows. I have a couple of ideas, but am not sure if I could come up with the necessary points. I'll have to do a little research before I would sign up. :-\

Wist = web list Basically, a wish list of ANYTHING you can keep track of on the web :)

Go to www.wists.com and sign up, download the toolbar, then start clicking and adding stuff from your fave sites, other's wists, and of COURSE Craftster :)

It's really fun, and also neat to see what other's like as well.

::Whips out the handy Craftster Handbook::

According to the mod goddesses, here are the general size guidelines:

By Time
-Big = 3 or more hours
-Medium = 2 or more hours
-Little = 2 or less hours

By Size
-Big = A shawl, a shirt, a skirt, a set of jewelry with four to five items, a purse
-Medium = one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf
-Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks

By Price
-Big = $30 or more
-Medium = $10-$30 dollars
-Small = $10 or less

So I would say you've got the right idea :)

Jacquard (http://www.jacquardproducts.com/products/kits/tie_dye_kit/) actually makes a wicked easy tie dye kit for under 20 bucks. Great instructions (even a DVD!) and plenty of dye for like 15 tshirts (I did two aprons, two tshirts, and like 14 bandanas with dye left over). There are definitely other kits out there; I've used a couple of them, though not nearly all, but I love the Jacquard kit and use it all the time, both for myself and at work (i work at a school).

(no, i don't work for jacquard! I just love this kit.)

Ok, I shipped my package for the Old School Nickelodeon swap yesterday, and hopefully my partner will receive it tomorrow or the next day, and then I can bug my organizer to give me feedback ;) so I can sign up for THIS swap. I have some awesome ideas already and it's something I would LOVE to be a part of. Great idea, Ma Rut! I am so excited; hoping I can have a slot. Luckily I have a week to get feedback.

Yay! I will TOTALLY be signing up, provided nothing bad happens.

It was storming like crazy this morning at around 4 and on my way to guard camp I saw the prettiest rainbow! I've always wanted to try to find the end of a rainbow, but I was already running late as it is this morning so I couldn't try. Whenever I get the time I think I'm gonna look through that page of rainbowness; I saw the first page and it was rainbowcrazy.

It just finished being stormy here too and YAY!, there's a rainbow. I used to think you could live on clouds and rainbows were bridges to other clouds. Sounds logical right?

Good luck looking for the end of the rainbow, you never know what you might find there.

I can't wait to start crafting for this.

Oh my gosh, Ma Rut, I was so sad when I saw that Estelle Getty died! How sweet of you to include her in your signature.

The Golden Girls were AWESOME! I used to watch the show when I was little. Rock out.

Aww, I know :'( I was doubly sad to find out that she had been suffering from dementia, that's just horrible.

I heard Lifetime held a mini marathon the day after, and last night Ugly Betty ran a rerun with Betty White in it (friggin' hilarious!).

(I'm rocking a Golden Girls shirt in my avatar BTW ;D)

I know what you guys mean; I'm pretty stoked for my first swap. : )

However, at the end of the month, I'll be going off to school. I'm not sure what my new address will be, but I believe I'll have to send out early, so whoever is my partner will get theirs nice and early. So we'll expect nice early pictures. : )

sorry to be a bother again. i just have another question about swaps. i see people metioning feedback. so is that like if you sent on time and took pix and all that good stuff so people know if you are a good swapper or not? thanks!

Title: Re: RAINBOW Swap Round 2 (SIGNUPS July 16-30; SENDOUTS August 30)
Post by: Jenicat on July 26, 2008 08:16:40 PM
Yup. If you send, you will get positive feedback - they can't really punish anyone for sending late but you really want to avoid it if possible (common courtesy). If you flake on the swap, you automatically get negative feedback and have to make good in order to get it changed to positive.

Basically you want to treat others how you'd like to be treated, and as long as you put effort into the swap, keep up good communication, and send on time you should have zero problem whatsoever getting great feedback. :)

The feedback is there basically so that future swap organizers know that you're trustworthy to join their swap and not flake on it.

RyuuDolly, I hope that whatever your will be in the hospital for, that everything will turn out ok.
It's possible I may even spend a night in the hospital soon. I've had several infections since my by-pass last September, and have been on several antibiotics. I had additional surgery in February to remove some of the sternal wires and debridement of the bone. It's very difficult to get rid of yeast infections. I have to see a plastic surgeon Monday and see what he says.
Good luck to you RyuuDolly.

I looked at your pic, that looks painful! :-[ Antibiotics for me never work until I've taken the complete dose, however long it takes, so maybe it will start working soon for you. I hope everyone feels better!

This reminds me of the last Once You Pop Swap I hosted...everyone had some kind of tragedy! Whether it was surgery, natural disasters, illness, getting laid off, or having babies.

So, turns out I'm really bad at changing colors when I crochet. I've made things with stripes before, but they were in pale baby colors so I guess I didn't notice. The bright colors do not forgive. I can also blame this on my trial-and-error method of learning to crochet in the first place. The result is that I can do some crazy elaborate patterns and make up my own patterns pretty well, but I lack some of the basic skills. But the pot of gold at the end of this rainbow (tee hee) is that I have practiced and learned and now I have improved. So thanks to the Rainbow Swap for making me learn how to change colors :)

I'm almost done with a medium and small woohoo! i've been crafting really fast lately. But things are gonna slow down big time next week. BAND CAMP! UGH! Marching 4-5 hours a day in 90+ degree weather and then dancing the rest of the day. Not looking foward to it. I foresee a massive sunburn in my future.

Oooh, rainbow cupcakes. One of my first Craftster posts was my attempt at those... I have food tolerance issues so I used stuff like berries, passionfruit etc to make the different coloured layers. They didn't turn out very rainbow (and I think cupcakes without icing looked a bit like poor relations over in the cakes section!) but they were deeply yummy.

I've made a small item... dusted off a technique I haven't used for ages. Woot! I've a medium about 70% along, plans for the other medium item, and about a dozen ideas for the other small and haven't decided yet.

The Wiccan/Witch/Pagan swap I just finished was a bit like that one where everyone had something go wrong - we had people ill, injured, affected by flooding, family dramas, you name it. I felt a bit guilty being just about the only one to not have something go wrong!

I hope this is the worst thing that happens in the next month, but apparently a few supplies I wanted are unavailable due to a truck drivers strike last week. I'm hoping I can make up for lost time on one item I haven't been able to start yet, and for another I've just used what I had to hand instead of buying new stuff, and I think the result looks better than what I originally planned.

I've never looked into making rainbow cupcakes, but how do they work? Do you pour the different layers on top of one another before baking?

Thanks for the status update, Nobodyhasthisoneyet!

So far I've gotten one medium 50% done. For me, using this technique is more of a large because I'm slow :P ;D Getting faster with it but still kind of slow. I have so many ideas drawn out in my sketchbook, just need to narrow them down!

Yep, I usually have 6 different bowls with the colors and spoon each layer into the cupcake paper thingy. If you make a lot it takes forever(2 1/2 hours for bout 50) but I have a lot of patience so it was fine.

I have started one medium and have another designed in my head. For the first, I am congratulating myself for my cleverness and am tempted to make another for me after this swap is over. I hope Jenicat likes it as much as I do.

sarahmakes, I am sure I will love whatever you send! I have nothing against items that are not completely functional - I do enjoy receiving decorative items as well! :) I just don't want to be in a ton of swaps where I ONLY receive decorative items, because then I wouldn't be able to fully appreciate them! :)

I have finished two small items thus far, and I've got plans underway for a number of items for sarahmakes' daughters. :) I went to the fabric/craft store today, so I was able to get some things that I needed for those. :)

And I saw the cutest ______ ever that I wanted to buy, but I needed to come home to see if something I have matches first.

Rainbows everywhere and yet no pot of gold....unless someone else found it first...if found, please return, I had dibs.

I am now recovered from my music/camping/hippie fest and have gone back to working on rainbows.

I am doing 1 large instead of 2 mediums (we discussed this) and I am almost done with that...was working on it until 2 am last night and only stopped when my eyes started to cross...then I surfed the web until 4 am. Don't know why I wasn't in bed sleeping.

I have my smalls done - though they are more mediums then smalls but what can you do - I made what I liked...

Anyway, I am sending my package "down under" so need extra delivery time so that it gets to my swap buddy within a decent time period. I have bought fabric from there and it takes a while to travel through the mail.

That's all I have for now....getting excited to see what everyone is making...

I'm at a standstill at the moment. The lame-o local craft store doesn't have anything I need. (They seem to have every color BUT purple!) I'm waiting to get a ride to town before I can finish everything.

Yikes, nearly forgot to check in. :)

I've made good time, and now have both smalls and one medium finished. Actually, the two smalls both took quite a long time, one was a technique I haven't used for yonks and the other just wouldn't behave, but the medium came together in no time because I had everything on hand and knew exactly what I was doing. So it all balances out.

I've changed my mind on the other medium about six times, as new ideas come to me - but the supplies still haven't arrived, limiting what I can actually do with any of them. I think I've got it sussed now, and glue willing can get it sorted out this week.

I was feeling a bit odd about being so far ahead so far out from sending day, because in my last swap I took forever to decide on items and was madly making right up til the last minute. But, like Imwoman I'm sending internationally, so that's probably a good thing.

And, I have now had my One Thing That Must Go Wrong: my hot water system died fairly spectacularly (boiling water. Everywhere.) so I've had to get it replaced immediately. I had nearly saved enough to get a new one, but not quite, so now I've got *just* not enough cash to go around.

Bummer, Nobodyhasthisoneyet. Perhaps the people who will install your new hot water system/heater can let you pay the cost in installments. You can't go without hot water for very long. I hope things work out.

Yikes, Nobodyhasthisoneyet! Hope your hot water system problem is ok now, that sucks :-[

Here's my progress update:
Medium: 60% done
Medium: supplies purchased, just got to get up the courage to try it :D
Small: 90% - just waiting on one more piece in the mail
Small: supplies purchased, more like a medium but I just have to make it :)

I'm sending internationally as well and thus trying to get it out quickly. Every time I've sent to the UK (or seen someone else send in one of my swaps), it's taken right at a month to get there.

I have 1 small left and all supplies are ready to go...just need to_____.

Should be mailing by or before midweek.

Is there such a thing as sending too soon? Should I wait to send? Advice here!

OH MY GOSH A sender already? Wow. I guess I'm a bit behind. ;)

For sarahmakes, I've got:

one small complete
another small complete

a small/medium for her youngest daughter (16 months)

a store-bought small for her older daugher (4 years)

I just finished up my dotee doll swap today, so I now have the time to focus on this swap! I have so many things I want to make... sheesh. I'm absolutely making the two mediums for sarahmakes, a medium for her older daughter, a medium for her younger daughter, and a small for her older daughter. I have almost everything I need for all of those things. In the meantime I will make the things that I have supplies for!

Man, I thought I was going at a good clip! My crafting time is cut down a little this week because I'm taking all day driver's ed, but I've got one medium finished and then one small in progress. The item I just finished took me a lot longer than expected, so hopefully I'll be able to finish up at a good pace.

yay! all done here. ill be sending out on monday. i really hope my swapee likes what i made. i think it all came out pretty well but she requested neon rainbow and my craft supply options are very limited here. i live 1.5 hours from the nearest walmart and 3 hours away from the closest real craft and fabric store. i managed to turn up enough neon rainbow fabric in my stash for one medium item though. yay. the rest is regular rainbow. this has been a lot of fun. im so glad you thought to start this swap Ma Rut! thanks.

Checking in at last - had a big weekend with friends in town and a seafood festival (AND we found a place on the way home that sold home made ice creams for 80c!) so it's been a busy one.

Both the small items and one medium are finished. The second medium only needs the final embellishments and then a good strong coat of lacquer. My poor partner, I've been bombarding her with questions to try to make sure this last one's suitable, because it turned out a bit more "artistic" than originally planned, yet at the same time trying not to give too much away. I've probably thoroughly confused her! :D

I should be right to go by midweek if I'm not lazy, end of the week if I drag my heels.

Then I'll come home and work on everything! I still have a number of things to make, but I hope to be sending by this coming weekend. I will absolutely send by the 30th, but there are so many things I want to make!

I am working on my last item....was a small but turning into a large with the amount of time it is taking me. I saw this on a website - said, "that is so cool and just so very rainbow" and "I could make one of those". Then I got the materials and started working - almost completed and did not like the quality of the work - so started over with new material - almost done again and quality is an issue again but different area - made it passed the last quality issue. Though it is super cute and my partner says that it looks great to him - he doesn't see what I see, as I made it. So, maybe it is good - and it is just me being me...

Anyway - I have box and packaging all ready and everything else done - photos taken of everything that is finished and will be sending at some point this week when last item completed.

Elizabeth, maybe you just need some distance. Very seldom do I like something I make right away. I am usually disappointed and feel like throwing it out because it's not good enough. After a couple of days I go back and really like it--the huge flaws seem to fade with time. I even felt like that while crafting for this swap. While I was making it I felt like I would be embarrassed to send it because it's not good enough, but when I put it together and packed it up, I thought I would really like to receive a package like this, and now I'm excited to send it. You should trust your partner--what you made is probably great!

Okay, here's my progress:

for sarahmakes:

M - about 10% complete
M - planning stages
S - complete!
S - complete!
S - complete!

for her 4 y/o daughter:

M - planning stages
S - 85-90% complete

for her 16 m/o daughter:

M - planning stages
S - complete!

I plan to have at least 1 of sarahmakes' mediums done tomorrow/Thursday (this is completely doable), as well as the medium and small for her oldest daughter.

The medium for her youngest is what I'm really excited about, and it should be done by Saturday at latest. The last medium for sarahmakes should be ready by Sunday night, meaning I should be able to ship on Monday. I have no reason to believe I won't be able to, so that's what I'm shooting for. If, for some reason, I can't, then it will definitely be by Wednesday.

Taking longer than expected, here. The embellishments for the second of my medium items is what's actually going to make it rainbow-like, and it's going slower than planned.

I'm not going to send *late*, I just won't be as early as some of the eager sorts on this swap.

(Am I the only one who still has a mental snigger whenever anyone mentions "smalls"? I am SUCH an eight year old. ::) )

LOL, yep, you're the only one. Must be an Aussie thing!

My package for Nobodyhasthisoneyet is on it's way to Australia!!! I'm full of excitement and anxiety. I hope it arrives safe and gets there quickly.

The material I used has made a complete mess of the whole house including the poor cat. My boyfriend should be glad it's all over and I can finally get the house cleaned up.

M - planning stages (begin working on this one tomorrow)
S - complete!
S - complete!
S - complete!

for her 4 y/o daughter:

M - planning stages (begin working on this tomorrow too)
S - complete!

for her 16 m/o daughter:

M - planning stages (should get it done maybe... Saturday?)
S - complete!

I have one medium left for sarahmakes, one medium for her older daughter, and one medium for her younger daughter. :)

And I'm gonna go start one of them in a minute. I'll post some teasers later, too, even though not everything is done.

EDIT: completed the medium for sarahmakes' older daughter! ;) ONLY TWO ITEMS TO GO... dun dun dunnnnnnn. When will I finish? Who knows? ooOooohh, excitement.

The items for my swap have been sent! Unfortunately I'm going on vacation tomorrow and packed my camera before I could take any pictures :( I completely forgot until after it was given to the post office. Hopefully my partner could provide the photos.

I'm all done and packed up, ready to be sent Monday. Woot!!

I'm late checking in because my home internet connection's died completely, so I've sneaked in to work on Sunday to rescue my partner's address out of my PM folder to I can address the parcel, and also to write a very cranky email to my ISP!

Jennicat, it's might be better if you put your gallery post link here, so that we don't have to scroll through the entire gallery to view it.

You'll have to forgive me Jenicat, I'm in so many swaps currently, that I'm getting confused. The topic for the email message below this one, was for the "favorite recipe mini swap", and that is why I asked you post the link. I thought I was on that swap. That gallery has tons of recipes with the swap pictures as well.
By the way your package was terrific.

Alright, so due to wanting to add something at the LAST SECOND, I am not going to be sending until tomorrow. But tomorrow it will absolutely be. And I will, of course, message Ma Rut and sarahmakes when I ship. :)

I got a LOT of work done last night, so I'm now like, aaah, one thing away. One thing and a little bit away from having all items finished.

I just checked the tracking number on the package I sent to Kitten Wrangler and.......

Status: Out of Foreign Customs

Your item cleared customs in AUSTRALIA at 1:33 PM on August 28, 2008. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

Kind of funny because it is 8:45 AM on August 28 where I am right now.....LOL The package somehow got ahead of me. So, maybe by the weekend the package will be in the hands of Kitten Wrangler.

Now, I did not leave a note/letter inside the package explaining my though process about the items...so will need to do so once the package is in her hands.

Elizabeth.... excited in boston

Oooooooooooooh..... It might get to me tomorrow - and if not I'll have to wait until Monday.

We have no weekend postal service. Sad face.

Also! Oooh! It will make all of about 12 hours difference, but I need more stuffing, which I have to pick up tomorrow after work. And so - I can't send out until Monday 1st September. Which is, like, 7pm Sunday for you guys or something. I'm sorry - please point the finger of blame at a larger-than-expected thing-that-needs-stuffing.

Hello all, I'm about to pop over to the gallery and check out all the wonderful things people have been giving and getting.

Sorry about how quiet I've been - my home phone and internet connection, which has been dodgy for months, died for good and the company was messing around something chronic instead of fixing it. So, I cancelled my account and went to another company - and after the new lot messing around for a week, it turns out they can't do it either, because the exchange is so old in my part of town only one company can use it! So, now I've had to swallow my pride and go back to the original company. I should have the phone on today, but the internet is still going to be at least another few days. I'm *very* cross. Sigh.

Onto happier things, here are some teasers for Oyhana!

And this one didn't lend itself to cropping, so instead I went nuts with Photoshop's swirly-thing tool:

Things just keep going from bad to worse around here. :( Both of our vehicle quit working within 1 day of another and we currently have no vehicles at my house. So honestly I don't know exactly when I will be able to send. Its just bugging the crap out of me that this package has been sitting here for almost 2 weeks and every time I got a chance to go to the post office it was closed or I don't have a ride to it. ITS SO FRUSTRATING!!! We should be getting our truck back tomorrow so I'm hoping to be able to send this week eventually.....

I received a wonderful package from Jeane yesterday. The package contained 2 polymer clay flower magnets and as well as an adorable rainbow magnet and a polymer clay Jewish Star. She also included a few logs of polymer clay. I guess I'm going to have to learn how to work with it. I received a beautiful, colorful Dotee Doll. It is so cute. And I also got a lovely beaded necklace with a dangly pendant/charm. And there's more, she also sent 2 balls of fuzzy rainbow-y yarn and a ball of glisten-y yarn. Hmmm.. I guess I will make me a new scarf. What a wonderful package. Thank you, Jeane.

Hi everyone :)

Just a heads-up, this is where we're at right now with this swap...

1 person left to send
1 person left to receive
1 person flaked! :P

So we need an angel for Strutter (formerly known as veganxwater). I would like to extend the invitation to you guys first before putting it on the Angels Board. PM me if you're interested!
