Niiiiiiice!! The grey/bllack looks so soft and fluffy  ;D Gotta love a soft and fluffy shawl!  I like the satin ribbon closure, I was thinking of buying a HUGE button,I've seen some about 2" across in a local shop. I'm awake at an ungodly hour for Sunday (6am) so you might even get a finished pic of mine today.

Post by: craftydame on March 23, 2008 01:31:04 AM
you guys are totally making me want to crochet another one of these!

i made one (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=211618.0;all) for taloola back in november or so, though i used the one ball pattern (cause there are a couple half moon shawl patterns!).

i made hers as a "wish shawl" (my agnostic take on a prayer shawl) and it totally worked! it's a magic shawl!

FINISHED!!  ;D I cut it short and finished after row 28 as I think this is plenty big enough, no edging trim either....and I still have yarn left so this shawl has cost less than 2  for materials - that's about a US$  ;D comparison pics so you can see how much yarn I used.

if you don't have quite enough, you could always do the "one ball half moon shawl", it's gorgeous too! mine took about 456 yards.

I have no idea how many yards as I was using two unlabeled cones of mystery yarn but I jut weighed my shawl and it weighs just under 19oz.

Glittergirl94, I love the colour of yours  ;D

Post by: jezebel_1982 on March 28, 2008 03:55:19 PM
wow these are beautiful!
I think I'm gonna have to have a go at it; a friend donated about 15 balls of this stuff I've never seen (the label makes it look pretty old) and I've been looking for a project for it.
It's a pretty brown/periwinkle combo made of wool, mohair and acrylic :D

Title: Re: Half Moon Shawl
Post by: Tanzie on March 28, 2008 03:59:34 PM
brown and peri sounds like a great combo!

Title: Re: Half Moon Shawl
Post by: jezebel_1982 on March 28, 2008 04:34:31 PM
ACK!
So, instead of doing what I SHOULD be doing, I've started on this shawl. Kookaloo's right, quite the pleasant distraction (isn't crocheting just about always, though?)
And here's the problem...I'm on row 5 and already have encountered a problem.

Quote
Row 5: Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2), turn, (3 dc in next ch-2 sp, ch 2) across, end dc in top of beg ch-3 - 7 ch-2 sp.

WTF? The CH 5 is throwing me off...looks wonky to me...any suggestions?

NM, I figured it out...if I wasn't so dense, I would have seen the "3 dc in next CH-2 SP....grrrr...

This looks so great. I want to make one. I just started to crochet some weeks ago, but I want to do this and I think I can do (maybe with the help of my mom) but first I have to find some nice yarn and

the problem, maybe someone can help me. My problem is there is written use a N hook, but my problem what size would that be in German, what I found was that it is a 9, but I'm not sure if this can be and I know that I didn't get so big ones here. Sorry if this is a silly question ore someone ask this before, but maybe someone can and want to help me. Thanks.
Gloomy

Post by: Kookaloo_Starr on March 30, 2008 07:11:19 AM
Hi Gloomy, I'm in the UK and yep, its a 9mm hook for this pattern, BUT saying that, with things like shawls and scarves where the fit isn't precise I'd say just use the biggest hook you have and go for it  ;) It will make a difference to the size of the finished shawl though, but it should just mean doing some extra rows. I didn't do a gauge swatch and mine would've come out even bigger if I hadn't stopped 10 rows short  :)

Title: Re: Half Moon Shawl
Post by: Gloomy on March 30, 2008 08:12:57 AM
Thanks Kookaloo_Starr  :D
My biggest is an 3,5mm so well. But I get a 6 from my mom some minutes ago. Well I will just try it, I'm not that tall, so it shouldn't be a problem and if it is to small I can give it to my cousin.

Thank you very much Kookaloo_Starr

Title: Re: Half Moon Shawl
Post by: jezebel_1982 on March 30, 2008 09:36:29 AM
Gloomy - I'm using a 6.5mm, and almost finished the pattern. It's quite short. More child-sized than for an adult. I'm just adding extra rows to make up for it.

you'll laugh.... I started to make a halfmoon for Jezebel in a swap were in.... then she posted here and I unravelled it  ::) then she couldn't find the time with her beautiful new son to care for so I started it again....THEN I got a new kitten who won't leave me alone when I crochet so I'm only up to row 20 and I've had to mail  her parcel without a shawl after all  :(

I've managed a couple more rows. I think by the time my yarn has run out, this will be the right size...
I've said it on other boards, but babies really take up a lot more of your time than I thought. I was expecting to have at least an hour or so a day to myself (besides sleep time)

hahahah yeah right. He has other plans... I think I'm going to have to become a park crocheter, since whenever we go for walks to the park, he sleeps the whole time.
