woohoo!!  We just built a cold frame yesterday in anticipation of spring (of course, its to early to even use the cold frame  :-\)

Don't let my feedback scare you, there is a message in to the mods to fix it :)

One question though... if we include seeds, should those be counted as the smalls, in lieu of a small, or in addition to the 2 mediums and 2 smalls?

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!
Post by: rira on February 17, 2008 09:25:52 AM
Thanks for the info rubytue! I would say to talk it over with your partner. If you're both cool with a few groupings of seeds counting as a small, then Im peachy!

ALSO: If you have already submitted your questionaire, please send me the answers to the STARED questions above. It's my first time organizing and I keep thinking of important questions.

Do we have a list of swappers?  I like checking out who all has joined up.

I have decided for sure that I'm gonna sign up, I'm just waiting because I wanna join something else that ends before this one.

Post by: lindsoriah on February 19, 2008 08:30:45 PM
I want to do this so bad.  can't decide, can't decide. WHAT TO DO?!?!?

I seriously am in a conundrum.  Must be realistic must not let crafting/gardening interest over ride common senseMUSTJOINSWAP MUSTJOINNOW

I'm having a really hard time with this...

K so I'm not joining because I've got a swap going around the same time that I'm organizing for the first time, AND because I'll be travelling for a good part of the crafting period, AND because I'll be moving soon and am not sure about starting a garden in the meantime.  But I just wanted to voice how distressed I was/am and that I will be stalking you all.

I may do a craftalong with your swap and pretend I'm involved, looking in like the little matchstick girl.

Good byyyye swap!  You'll always be in my heart!

Those reasons not to join are all far too logical.  Sometimes, you need to override logic  ;D

And there is still a week to round up more people! :)

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!
Post by: lindsoriah on February 20, 2008 07:59:43 AM
Hmmmm... "Do it"  and   "don't listen to logic" are both surprisingly convincing.  Maybe I could join and just explain the situation to my partner...

I'm definitely thinking about it.  Either way I think everyone on craftster should join in so I can see what cool stuff comes about.

Post by: rira on February 25, 2008 06:44:50 PM
yay chatter! i love my little pots. I bought some awesome plants last year, but they didnt survive the cold winter. :( Le sigh.  I'm hoping to go for herbs or maybe resilient veggies.

partners *should* be assigned late friday nites. I'm going out of town from then till Monday night (woo Spring Break)

April 13th?!  No fair!  I've been told my last frost day is early/mid May *grump*

I've got my seeds all ready to go :)  There may be some listed below, and there may be some surprises in there ;)  For crafts, I'm getting inspired, but waiting to see my partner's tastes.

Quote
what kinds of gardens are y'all planning?
We have a cold frame built.  I'm hoping I could start something like lettuce in it withing a week or two.  I'm going to give it a shot :)

Mr Ruby has been busy making newspaper pots so we can start seedlings.  Which means I need to get around to ordering our seeds.  Our veggie garden this year will be tomatoes, peppers, peppers, peppers, popcorn, cucumbers, and some more peppers.  We need a bean, too.  I'm pushing for limas but Mr Ruby wants pole beans.  We also have garlic and shallots we planted last fall.

For our flower garden, we have herbs (basil, lime basil, cat nip, thyme, and lavender), plus marigolds, cleomies, and I don't know what else.  Mr Ruby is a big seed saver.  I want cilantro, but I don't think we have any seeds.

When we moved in last May, our front yard was a blank slate (due to a new septic system).  We have added a hydranga, some ornamental grasses, bulbs, and hostas.  Only it seems the deer and rabbits like the hostas more than me :(  Our pup keeps them out of the back yard, but the front yard is fair game.

Aren't you sorry you asked LOL

I've got herbs and a couple of houseplants in my kitchen window.  I just put up a glass shelf today, so now I can put twice as many there!  I've got lemonbalm, orange mint, and an arabica coffee plant.  That window gets awesome light!

As for the outdoors, I've got a big backyard, but it is really shaded.  I have a 2 1/2 story tall house, and I've got 23 trees taller than my house in my yard.  It is wonderful in the summer, we don't need air conditioning, because no sun gets to the house...but it also doesn't get to very much of the yard.  We have to re-seed the grass this summer, and I'm digging flower beds all along the fencelines.  We've got lilac trees planted along the fences, and I'll be planting hostas and a whole bunch of flowers down below the lilacs.  I'm hoping for some hydrangeas, because I love them!

Veggie wise, I plant tomatoes, green peppers, jalepenos, cubanelles, and some squashes.  I'm also planting sunflowers in the back of the house...the one spot with direct sun!

I really want to make somebody a gardening apron or tote.  I love crafty gardens!

so here's a question just for thought process.. and helping pair people up..
would you rather craft/seed pick for someone who has a garden (or wants a garden) like yours, completely opposite of yours, or do you really not have a preference?

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!
Post by: superhooker on February 25, 2008 07:36:19 PM
I'd take anybody!  I'd love to craft garden themed stuff for inside too... like if somebody's just got a little container garden in an apartment.

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!
Post by: lindsoriah on February 25, 2008 07:42:51 PM
that's what i'm going to have, an inside tiny garden!  but i wouldn't mind making stuff for any kind of garden. i'm not the most knowledgable person but I do good research so hopefully I don't send anything too out there...

what i'd like to try and grow are herbs, maybe some small container vegetables (i have a book on this and it seems doable) and other useful things like aloe or lavender or something. i cook a LOT.
i went to the botanical gardens this weekend and they had a whole section on medicinal plants and a section on spices/herbs, so that was pretty neat and inspiring.  i have a houseplant right now called harry, and one living with my long-distance boyfriend that he named Franklin or Ferdinand or something.

Rubytue, I saw your post in the eco craft along about "Mr Ruby, who does our grocery shopping" and I TOTALLY thought Mr Ruby was just your houseservant or something!  Now I get it that he's just your mister. Man I feel silly.

Well, I think he feels that way sometimes LOL  He is a house husband right now, due to it being a really bad time to look for trades work (he is a residential service electrician).  Everyone he talks to loves him, but doesn't have work for him.  So, instead I getting all my grocery shopping, cooking, and laundry done for me.  He is far more domestic than me.  Plus I got a full bathroom remodel out of the deal  ;D

In terms of partners, I'm open to anything! I have a ton of seeds this year, a number of which were collected from my own plants, so I'd love to share those, but I've also got some fun craft ideas for indoors or outdoors!
I've got a small outdoor veggie bed, flower beds (in process), and a ton of containers for the deck.
I've already Jiffy-ed up some seedlings this year (I know, too early, but I couldn't wait!). This year for veggies I'll be vying with the woodchucks for tomatoes (my favorite veggie to grow), lettuce (second favorite), beans, sugar snap peas, spinach, peppers (bell and sweet banana), squash (acorn and summer), garlic, and cucumber.
Herbs: Basil (thai and sweet italian), chives, dill, sage, pineapple sage, spearmint, thyme, cilantro.
Flowers: More than I can name...but I've got a ton of cleome and morning glory seeds from last year!
I can't wait for the weather to warm up here either...I can almost taste the bruschetta now...

We have a pint jar full of morning glory seeds!  We were mostly collecting them to prevent them from replanting in our small townhouse garden (then we moved to 3/4 acre).  I think I am going to sprinkle them all along our fence line :)

And I love cleomies!  I remember my mother growing them when I was little, but never knew the name.  Then last summer I saw them in my step-mom's garden and was so excited to see them again!

whooooah, synne your garden sounds so awesome.

at the end of this swap, can everyone post pictures of their garden if they are comfortable doing so?  I think it would be really neat and inspiring.

Mine will probably be a picture of like one pot next to a window, but whatev.

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!
Post by: rubytue on February 26, 2008 06:05:34 PM
I'm up for picture sharing :)  Everything is better with pictures!  And a pot by a window is still nifty.   ;D

I know you said after, but I'm going to anyway.  This is from last August, when my houseservant (;) ) was prepping our veggie garden.  No, my house isn't as nice as those you see.  I live in the 40-year-old neighborhood behind the expensive McMansions.

I have a sneaking suspicion we are biting off more than we can chew.  This garden is larger than the whole backyard we use to work with.

My "garden" too will probably be a lonely pot on my windowsill. It's sad to go from the big veggie garden at home and the farm I worked on all summer in the city to my little college dorm room all plant-less. :( I have such garden envy reading everyone's replies!

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!
Post by: lindsoriah on February 26, 2008 06:42:41 PM
meeeee tooooo!  i mean i never had a garden, but i thought moving here (i live in a townhouse) that i could do something with the yard, but they were very strict about not messing with the ivy that covers eeeeverything.

i frequently joke about stripping the yard right before I move out and leaving a note that says "i planted bamboo. sorry."

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!
Post by: lovefindslove on February 26, 2008 06:45:44 PM
lol you should plant some huge pumpkins or some other ridiculously huge vegetable and pay some kid to water them and when they pop up be like "I don't know what happened?"  ;D

But yeah, I don't have a yard to plant in either right now. I'm moving a couple hours away from home in July, and I'm going to wait to do anything to huge until then!

So for now I just have little herbs growing :)

What about container gardening?  Just put the pots right on top of the evil ivy.  Oops, I don't know what could have left those brown circles!  Or, you know, I've always been intrigued by upside-down tomato planting.  Maybe ivy is strong enough to hold a hanging basket of tomatoes :)  Back in college, I grew peppers in 5 gallon pickle buckets I rescued from my fast-food job.

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!
Post by: lindsoriah on February 26, 2008 07:26:14 PM
that's awesome!  i'm about to move to an apartment so i probably won't get reaaally started until then, but container gardening is a possibility depending on how much light i get.  i have a whole book on growing everything from melons to mushrooms inside, but i'll probably start smaller than that.

a pumpkin would be hilarious.  "oh that? that's my pumpkin"

For those with limited space- I was at a conference last year and I saw someone growing lettuce in hanging baskets.  She used like a mix of leaf lettuce ( as opposed to head lettuce) and just sprinkled them into potting soil in the hanging basket. About 3-4 weeks later she had beautiful lettuce. I think I might try that this year.

ooo. thats nifty.

i think my townhouse needs a pumpkin..though I threatened planting kudzoo after I left because my townhouse is anti ANYTHING.

My husband got me this really cool book called "Food not Lawns" for Christmas. It basically advocates everyone planting vegetables in their front yard! It got me thinking that really you can plant seeds anywhere. If you live in a townhouse what's to stop you from secretly planting something on the side of the road near your house? of course, you'd be the only one who might know that you could actually eat what grows there- hehe! I have heard about certain subdivisions that forbid gardens, clothes lines, etc. I feel badly for the people who live in them because even when the economy gets worse they are basically forbidden from taking steps that could save energy and money.
I think I am going to secretly plant some squash in the park down the road from my house, so it doesn't take over my entire yard  :)

I just checked this book out from my library. I haven't started reading it yet, but it makes so much sense to me. In fact, I've often thought that the person who invented lawns was an idiot- what a waste of time, money and resources. I love it when my neighbors complain about having to mow their lawn right after they have watered it and put a ton of fertilizer on it. My goal is to turn my entire lawn into a native prairie/vegetable garden/rain garden.

.... Ok, I will get off of my soap box now ;D

I can't wait for this swap to start!!!

I have a lot of space, but I like containers because if a plant isn't doing well in one spot, you can move it! I like the idea of planting veggies instead of caring for a lawn. I love not having to go to the store when I'm hungry and just going out into the yard to get salad fixin's!

We have a pint jar full of morning glory seeds!  We were mostly collecting them to prevent them from replanting in our small townhouse garden (then we moved to 3/4 acre).  I think I am going to sprinkle them all along our fence line :)
rubytue, this is mostly the reason I have so many MG seeds too--even though I love them and they have their own "area" in the back, I'm still afraid they're going to take over my veggie patch somehow!
lindsoriah, I have big eyes and big plans...we'll see how things ACTUALLY turn out--last year was my first with a garden of my own, so I learned a lot (and failed a lot too!)
I love the idea of "guerilla gardening" in unused public spaces. I don't care either for the the idea of putting so much time/energy/resources into a lawn when those same resources could go towards fresh, delicious veggies.
So excited for this swap!

Wow, I'd love a veggie yard. That would be so cool!

It would be a really cool "Feed the Hungry" type project.

Plant a huge garden in a park and let people who need the food have it, you know?
Maybe that's not even possible, but it would be a huge, fun, rewarding project.

My hubby and I were thinking of asking the city if we can use our side yard for flowers and veggies...There is a huge area between the sidewalk and the road...and its technically our land- we have to mow it and everything...I thought it would be way cooler to plant veggies...or at least wildflowers or something.

I am pretty sure you are allowed to do it, but you just couldn't complain if the city ever came and dug it up or mowed it down since I assume it is an easement of sorts. Lots of people do that in Indy and it makes everything beautiful!

I'm going to Ikea this weekend.  I'm totally gonna scope out their gardening section!

So is today partner day?  (pleasepleasepleaseplease)

I'm going to Ikea this weekend.  I'm totally gonna scope out their gardening section!

Just in case you become my partner, you should know that I love ikea to death. i have a 3 hour drive to get there, but it is so worth it. anything in their garden department would make me smile, so whoever your partner is is going to be lucky! Last time they had these cactus sets, three enclosed in a plastic case- easily ship-able! Oh ikea!

I wish I could buy out joann's today. I certainly have in the past, but I have a budget I MUST follow so I have $$ when I take vacation in two weeks. Oh joanns!

I just discovered the joys of Ikea. I didn't know they had a gardening section- I might have to make a special trip  ;D (closest one is 1.5 hours away in the Twin Cities).

I used to be right smack in the middle between the Chicago one and the Toronto one, but then they built one in Canton, MI...and that's only about 20 minutes from me!!!  I almost cried.

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!
Post by: sundayafternoonhousewife on February 29, 2008 08:01:03 AM
I would love if there was one only 20 minutes away, but that would totally bust my bu dget! Chicago is about a 3 hour drive, but an Ikea is supposed to open in Cincy this spring, so that's about 2 1/2 hours. I've got my fingers crossed for Louisville (2 hours) or anywhere in Central Indiana.

yes today is partner day.

nope, not by 1. I dont get out of class till 1:30, and I'll be home by 2. Unfortunately, I just pop in on craftster from time to time on campus workstations to check messages, etc. I dont think they'd be particularly thrilled if I stood here and paired people up... ;)

:( sorry

and i've never been to Ikea....

The nearest Ikea to me is two hours away too, which is around Dallas :(
Good news, I'm transfering to a school down there next semester!

The first time my boyfriend and I went into Ikea we had our day planned out and expected to go look around for about thirty minutes. . . . Yeah. . . . lol
Four hours later we walked out of there. I seriously could NOT leave. I love it so much!

Oooh... so much Ikea love, and so few people near Ikea.  This is good to know ;)

When I lived around DC, I was 20 minutes from the Woodbridge, VA Ikea.  Then I moved to Maryland, and I'm about 20 minutes from the Baltimore Ikea.  Funny thing, in Virginia, I was 6 miles from Ikea and now I'm 20 miles.  LOL

I could have probably written my partner's form - except for the part about having kitties since I am allergic to them - but know when I get stuff from kitty homes to be a little on guard, manned with a roll of 2" tape to pick up any strays that might have decided to come and taunt me!

I already have ideas - but far too many than I can do for one swap - so now I need to wait for an answer to my lengthy pm and then figure out exactly what I am going to make for her!

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!

I will do my very best to keep your items kitty hair free. It's not easy, but I can do it if I really need to. Plus, since I won't be sending anything with yarn, it's not like the hair will be all in that. It doesn't stick much to flower pots  ;) I am really happy about having you as a partner craftydeb, even if you are allergic to my furry best friends!

My husband tilled the old garden yesterday - I bought my broccoli and my cauliflower and it is going to go in the end of the week... along with the peas and maybe some lettuces....

not to rub it in ;D
yeah, there are a few advantages to living in the south!

And today I started some plants for my partner... the house (and my car) smell like rosemary.  yum!
A friend of mine has a huuuuge rosemary plant and her husband cuts it back massively every year.  I am going to ask him to wait to clip it until I have more room to make more starts from it... and to also dry some for the upcoming year.  My rosemary bush is not big enough to harvest yet.. but it's growing!!

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!
Post by: Yarn or Fabric on March 03, 2008 05:12:55 PM
Yeah, I am really happy to be able to plant so early here.  It is great - granted I am moving my garden this year - at least that is what I told myhusband.. the reality is... well, I am having a fall/early spring garden and a regular larger garden.

I didn't get my peas in the ground - we are expecting bad weather tonight and it being all sorts of nasty this week so I figured just do it this weekend.  Give dem peas a chance!  The boys were so angry with me for not planting peas or broccoli last year - well, I got my 9 packs of broccoli and cauliflower sitting in a tub in the kitchen just waiting for this weekend when they will hit the dirt - unless I get to feeling industrious before then :D

We have a store here called Old Time Pottery that gets in some of the coolest stuff for gardens.  I can't wait to get over there in the next few weeks - I am trying to hold off for as long as I can so that they get more of their garden stuff in... patience, I know!  I just have a hard time being patient when it starts getting so nice outside - okay, I say that now.. today was in the mid 70's.. it was 73 at 5pm!  tomorrow's high though?  let's not go there!!!

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!

I've been growing mustard - it overwinters well here and tastes supermustardy after the cold - i have to mix it with spinach to downplay the bite.  I can't wait for tomato time.

I have never been so raring to go (is that how you spell "raring??") about full-blown gardening season in my life.  I donno if this swap is gonna make it better or worse, but at least it'll give me something to do besides wait for 65 degree soil temps  :D

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!
Post by: Yarn or Fabric on March 05, 2008 06:11:57 AM
I went shopping yesterday - bought two of everything  ;D
I also went through a garden catalog that came in and am going to try and make a prototype of something I saw in it... which I think is such an awesome idea but think it's nuts how much they want to charge for it when it could take so little time to create - once I figure out the pattern that is... then I will be in production mode.  yeah, I want this item for myself as well - it is like the veggie picker dream item - okay, at least for me!

There are just too many things that I would like to create for my partner I am having a hard time deciding where to begin!  OKay, besides starting the plants in the bathroom - that has been done.. I have several jars going with stuff now.  It's looking good!!

I have made a long list of possible things - and have a box started with goodies inside it.
Good news?
My husband has agreed to make these for me!
tomato a-frames (http://www.marthastewart.com/portal/site/mslo/menuitem.3a0656639de62ad593598e10d373a0a0/?vgnextoid=e89b608f8532f010VgnVCM1000003d370a0aRCRD&autonomy_kw=a-frame&rsc=header_1)

how cool is that going to be?!  I am so stoked!
Sadly I don't think Old Time Pottery is going to have their garden stuff in time to make the deadline for this swap.  I called on Sunday and they said it is starting to trickle in but the one item I wanted to score has not arrived yet.. I will keep waiting and see what happens - then I need to figure out how to ship the bugger if I get it ;D

Title: Re: ATTN Greenthumbs! GARDENING SUPPLY Swap!
Post by: sundayafternoonhousewife on March 05, 2008 06:55:08 AM
Wow Deb, those a-frames are pretty cool! I might have to make some of those! I am so excited about all your ideas. I have started one thing, which is actually a set of 4, so it is half done at this point. I need to do more, but I have been battling a head cold and doing a lot of subbing this week, so my normal craft time has dwindled. Anyway, I'm off to clay class later tonight where hopefully I can create something for this swap.

edit- I just remembered that i woke up at like three this morning and had a great idea for the swap, failed to write it down, fell back to sleep, and now have again forgotten. I hate that. now I am sitting here thinking for the last hour what on earth I thought of that I can't remember. Does that happen to anyone else?

it's completely understandable, on the drive back from Jersey I was  making the SO help me brainstorm and we had a really good list. I think the ideas however, made a wrong turn of US-64, because I can't find them.

Deb, love the A frame idea--might have to rope the boy into building some for us!
I've been bad and haven't gotten any of my beds totally done yet--I want to raise my beds but every single freakin' place we went to the other weekend was all sold out of by-the-trailerload topsoil. Thus the only things I have growing right now are my indoor seedlings and container stuff (I've got some flowers and lettuce going). Oh, and the garlic I started last fall in a side bed.
We got a good amount of rain last night with the storms, so I'm hopeful that our drought situation is looking up!

I've got everything planned.. but we've suddenly got a rare streak of sunny weather so I'm having a hard time staying indoors to get the crafting done  ;D

I was ecstatic to discover that most of my outdoors carnivorous plants survived the harsh winter.. soon I should have blooms! And I noticed some crocus and daffodils in bloom.. it's so amazing to me how early it warms up here!

I envy all of you who have actual vegetable gardens..  ;D

I always wanted to try one of those topsy turvy things when I lived in my townhouse.  I thought it would be perfect.  I never did get one :(  You will have to tell us how they turn out.  For anyone curious, here is a way to make one yourself our of a 5 gallon bucket: http://www.minifarmhomestead.com/gardening/tomato.htm

We had a beautiful day yesterday, almost 70.  But its supposed to spit snow on Friday.  I hate March because of this.  Spring-winter-spring-winter  Make up your mind mother nature!

A snow day would be super - but right now I am hoping for nice weather because what I want to make really should be done outside...

I am feeling very behind. This is going to be a much  bigger swap than I had originally thought it would be - and that is because I am just finding it too hard to stop thinking of things I could make!
I have however started shopping and got the items bought for my big item so that is half of the battle I believe!
I still have 2 more weeks - I can work some serious magic next week!

I know! It's so easy to think of stuff and then I remember, "wait, it's only 4 items". Gardening has too many craft possibilities I guess....:)

All right, a little weekend update: I've got 2 smalls and 2 mediums done, and I am about to go start another medium for my partner. Hopefully it will turn out well, and maybe I can make two of them for her. I hope she will like what I have made so far. It's all more garden themed. It's all useful items though, so that I hope she will appreciate as well. Ok, off to break out the solder and saw!

Its beautiful!  My husband and I went for our honeymoon to Toronto, and they had a machine in the big needle thing (I think its called CN tower...could be wrong), where they would take your picture and then superimpose it into a picture of the tower at sunset, or at night.  My husband is a cheeseball, so we got the picture.

That sounds really nice.
My husband took a picture of the CN tower from spring break trip we took to Toronto and superimosed a picture of a giant canadian goose next to it so it looks like it is attacking it. It is now hanging in our bathroom.  :P

haha, we TOTALLY planned it. We showed up early to see NYC during the day, made SURE we were there when the photographers came out at sunset, and then waited to see it at night.

and I would LOVE to see a goose attacking anything..they're so crazy

I'm so happy!  My work travel for next week was canceled!  So I have more time to work :)  Yay!!!

I'm now half done with a medium.  So now, all done with a small (or what should be a small except I kept messing up and having to rip out seams!), half done with a medium, half done with a small, and have my seeds packed up :)  Still have another medium to go.  I have a million ideas for the last one, I just can't decide which to go with LOL

I'm so excited! I just needed somewhere to post and vent :D
I'm getting a garden this summer! Whoo hoo! The other renters moved out and the landlord said I can have their garden plot. It needs work.. but it already has some nice raised beds and such. Plus it's fully fenced to keep the sheep out. -

Now to start planning  ;D

Looks like it will have to wait til Sunday at least before I can dig... good thing last frost is still a few weeks away..

Congrats on the new plot!

I got some serious crafting done this weekend - and am definitely going to be able to send on time - however my plants that I had started are not even close to being ready to post out - the rosemary does not have much roots at all and the pothos is getting roots but not strong enough to transport yet I don't think - part of me says to hold off and send a week late just to get the roots going the other part of me says just to wrap them good in wet paper towels and send them and let them finish up after they arrive - I do plan on shipping out priority mail so they shouldn't take long at all to post out - but then if they get stuck arriving on a Sunday that would add on a day to their transport... arg. I guess that's why the plant shipping folk on ebay ship out on Mondays or Tuesdays only.
decisions decisions.  I hate being late but I don't want my little pothos to not make their trip well enough.  The rosemary sadly is completely out of the running for this swap - I don't see their roots growing in the next few days - although they could be harvested.

arg. I don't want to think this evening. My brain just hurts  :(
time to grab an advil.

I wouldn't worry too much about the weekend thing. I've been selling and shipping carnivorous plants for roughly 8 years now and have yet to loose one because it sat over the weekend. One got lost once and sat in a mail truck for 2 weeks though.. it barely made it :-p

As long as you package it well it should make it :)

I am almost done with my crafting! I just need to add a few more finishing touches and then I can send out. I am so ready for spring, although I don't think it is coming any time soon. It is currently snowing outside :'( They said it shouldn't stick around too long though. My fingers are itching to play in the soil.

I planted lettuce in my cold frame over the weekend.  I've never used a cold frame, so it was kind of an expierement.  We have had the cold frame set up for a couple weeks, and even on the 50 degree day when I planted, I could feel a little more warmth inside the box  :)   I have it opened today to get some rain.  But I have no idea what I am doing LOL

On top of that, we have 3 trays of seeds started.  Peppers, tomatos, and herbs mostly.  I had to get on Mr Ruby - he is so excited for spring he wants to start every seed we have.  Even the stuff that doesn't need to go into the ground until June LOL

Hi Deb! Don't fret about the pothos. Put it in a baggy with some paper towel and water and we will see what happens. Too bad about the rosemary, but thanks for trying! So I have a couple of things to finish up. One I started before I left on vacation, but I have never done it before and it takes FOREVER. I don't see myself finishing it unfortunately. The other is a quick one, so anayway, I've got all day tomorrow off and assuming I feel better than I do today, I should be able to get all finished.

im glad everyone seems to be coming right along. im struggling on one little bit, but other than that it should be good to go tomorrow! WOOHOOOOOOS.

I'm jealous of everyones gardening however, it dipped down to 30something one night and killed off the clover i had by the window..so I dont want to venture outside.

I planted 6 lettuce plants that I had picked up from a co-op two weeks ago.

4 have survived the slugs so far.   The slugs got past my plastic bottle barriers, but left the plants inside eggshell barriers alone!

Okay.... I am moving along very nicely!  I finished up the 3rd part of my package - which is actually the biggest of my projects and I started on the last bit which I will finish up on Thursday if it rains tomorrow.. Can't do it inside and we are expecting rain... it was suppose to be here already but it is just all windy outside and whatnot... not a drop to be found!  Go figure!  I am sure it will come down a torrential downpour when I pull up to my sewing class tonight - timing is everything, isn't it?

I am so excited - this has been such a fun package to put together!!!
I am really glad I joined this swap!

Yay! My package is all done and ready to ship out today as soon as I get the go-ahead on my partner's addy!
In gardening news, I am at an utter standstill right now as I still have not been able to find any place selling good (or even mediocre) topsoil by the cubic yard. Frustrating, because I don't want to have to buy the soil (I'm going to need at least a ton) for my raised bed by the bag at Lowe's!

I am really excited to see what everyone's making. My projects are going ok and I've got a good chance of getting the apartment I want in May and you better believe I scoped out the windows for indoor planting! I also found some small plants at  my local grocer that would work aaaaaand a source for good organic heirloom seeds.  I feel so much more on top of it all!

I can't wait for the gallery.
