Title: Muno from Yo Gabba Gabba! (with tutorial)
Post by: Soulmom on February 10, 2008 08:00:30 PM
Hi all! I was inspired to finally join Craftster and post by Alliecat30. I made this little guy a week ago for my son's 2nd birthday. He and my other 2 kids are obsessed with the show Yo Gabba Gabba! and I couldn't help myself. I'm relatively new to amigurumi and this is the first one I ever attempted without a pattern. He loves it so much he takes it to bed every night now. I'm working on getting my notes typed up to I can post the pattern. I'm a little unhappy with the eye, as I embroidered it on, I think if I make another I'd use white felt and an eyeball button.

Muno from Yo Gabba Gabba! Crochet pattern

yarn: any Red worsted acrylic should do fine. I used Caron One Pound
hook: G (I originally used an "I" but had many comments about the stuffing showing through. I was very new to amigurumi when i first made Muno. a smaller hook or bulky yarn should solve that issue. gauge isn't really important, just use what works best for you)

I worked up this pattern as a spiral and used stitch markers to keep track of the rounds.

BODY
rnd 1: 6 sc in ring (6)
rnd 2: 2sc in each (12)
rnd 3: *1 sc in next, 2 sc in next, rep from * around (18)
rnd 4: *1 sc in next 2, 2 sc in next, rep from * around (24)
now is a good time to weave in your tail
rnd 5-25: sc in each around (24)

CROTCH + LEG
Here is where I split the crotch and make one leg. Hopefully it makes sense, if not then just wing it. As long as the leg is 14sts around it should look proportional.

rnd 26: ch 2, sl st to the 13th sc of the last rnd, sc in next 11 and mark the rnd
rnd 27: sc in one side of the first sc, sc in one side of each of the ch 2 sts, sc in the next 11 (14)
rnd 28-40: sc in each around (14)

BOTTOM OF FOOT
To reduce sts in the round instead of skipping a st I would draw a loop through as if to sc and then sc in the next st and draw the hook through all three loops. I hope that makes sense.

rnd 41: slst into next sc, in the back loop- sc in next, reduce around until you get to the center. Leave a long tail
finish: with a yarn needle, work the tail around in the last rnd and pull to the center to close it up tight. Weave in end.

STUFF BODY + LEG
Use some polyester fiber fill to stuff the body and leg until nice and firm, but not hard.

OTHER LEG
It was a little tricky here to work around the other leg, but it wasn’t too much in the way.

Attach yarn with slst in center st of crotch
rnd 1: sc in next 12, sc in the other side of each of the ch 2 spaces, mark rnd (14)
rnd 2-14: sc in each around (14)
Make sure legs look even and adjust number of rnds if needed. Looking even is more important than the actual number of rnds.
STOP-STUFF LEG
rnd 15: rep rnd 41 to close foot.

ARMS - make 2
rnd 1: 6 sc in ring (6)
rnd 2-3: sc in each (6) weave in tail
rnd 4: ch3, sc in each (6)
rnd 5: skip ch3, sc in each (6)
rnd 6-10: sc in each (6)
rnd 11: 2 sc in next, sc in next 5 (7)
rnd 12: sc in each (7)
rnd 13: 2 sc in next, sc in next 6 (8 )
rnd 14: sc in next 3, slst in next 3, sc in next 2 (8 )
rnd 15: sc in next 3, slst in next and finish off
Leave a long tail for sewing onto body.

STUFF ARMS and SEW TO BODY
I used small bits of batting and used the back of my hook to push it down into the arms.
Sew arms to side of body about 1/2 way between the top of the head and the crotch.

FACE
Decide which side of the toy you like better and make that the front. I embroidered the face on but feel free to use any means to create the simple eyeball and a mouth with 2 teeth.

Great work,Eve

I think it looks great!  :D If you want a different type of eye though you could crochet one using the magic ring. Use DMC pearl and join the rounds and it should come out as a perfect circle and you can pop an eye right in the middle.

That is an awesome idea! thanks, i'll have to remember that for the future! i'm totally having a "duh, why didn't i think of that?" moment...

I know that it was a ton of work but I LOVE the embroidered eye. It has a deeper 3D effect that I don't think you could get from felt. But that is just my opinion thought and I am an embroidery freak.
The toy is awesome !! doesn't it make every min worth it to see them sleeping with a toy that you made. :) Love That !!

Much Peace,
Tero

EEee cute!!!!  I love it and you did a great job!  I'm so slow posting that pattern, but then I'm worried someone won't understand my abbreviations so I'll go back and write stuff out.  Think I'll post it with my shortened stuff and just say I'll help if anyone's like, "huh...?"
Your little boy is precious!!  Don't you love that show???

I made a muno for a little girl who is turning 4 this weekend! I made the eye a crocheted round starting with black and then turning white. It looks awesome! I did have to modify the arms a little, for some reason they turned out super skinny, so I just added a few stitches here and there. I sure hope she likes it, but then how couldn't she, this pattern rocks! I'll post a pick tomorrow, it is midnight and I am pooped!  ;)
Thanks again for the pattern!
Edited to add photo! Here is my version of Muno! Thanks for the pattern!

thanks :D He's still sleeping with Muno every night! During our bedtime routine he lets me hold Muno while he winds up a music box that he falls asleep to, then he trades me back and snuggles up with him. I really need to get going on a Plex for my other son. He's 5 and he's kinda jealous of his little brother's new toy...

We LOVE Yo Gabba Gabba...It's $25 per doll to buy them online...so this was a GREAT alternative for us!!  My mom whipped Brobee & Muno up overnight for my little girl & she LOVES THEM!!!!  Thanks so much for making them available to us...my mom's even going to attempt to make Foofa & Toodee...don't know how to go about making Plex though...we'll see!!!

Thanks AGAIN!!!

And here's Brooklynne with her Brobee & Muno (won't let me post the pic cause I'm new to this...but here's the link...)
