Details of swap:
Okay...this idea was brought up by Lydia Tthe Strange, who, by the way, posted a brilliant tutorial for crochet slippers!  https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=127333.0  Now, your slippers DO NOT HAVE TO BE CROCHETED!  They may be created in whatever way YOU can craft a pair of slippers!  You will be required to craft one pair of wearable slippers, and two, small items that would, hopefully, be related to slippers in some way.  One of the small items may be store bought.  If you want to send more to your partner, please make sure to communicate with them so that packages are of equal size and effort.

That being said, and in the interest of my sanity, we will be keeping this swap small.  The short sign-up time is because I HATE having to wait! :) If you have any negative comments in your profile, you are welcome to apply for the swap, but I also reserve the right to ask about the comments as well as deny you a place in the swap.  I have no patience for flakers.  If you find, near the end that you may need more time, please be sure to communicate with me and your partner.  You don’t need to become best friends with your partner, but you ARE required to communicate with them #1 When you receive their information, #2 When you send, and #3 When you receive!  Frankly, I don’t care if you hate what they sent, please be kind, thank your partner, and tell them you love it!  I also require that you post pictures of what you have received within a reasonable amount of time unless you have a great excuse.  If there are any issues at any time during this swap, please contact me via PM.  Newbies are very welcome!

And finally, when you contact me, I will get back to you as soon as I possibly can.  I work 5 days a week, run after work, have a husband, and a child, and I cannot access Craftster from work, so....please be patient!  If you haven’t heard from me within 24 hours, please send another PM as sometimes, they get lost in cyberspace!

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:

Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country?

Ooh this sounds so fun! I was just thinking today about trying to make maryjanes slippers out of the sleeves of some wool sweaters and felting them...may have to give it a trial run before I commit!

Hello everyone!  So far, everyone should have "in-progress" feedback.  I'd love for this to be a low-pressure, relaxed, fun swap.  That's why I'm only requiring 2 small things in addition to the slippers.  Just a few more days before I close sign-ups, and then, we can get crafting.  Woohoo!

DisneyFan: you are so naughty!  I have to say tho, me too!  No one cares as long as I get my work done.  I made my friend a pair a few weeks ago for when she went into labor, and when she had the baby last week she got major compliments from the hospital staff!

I work in a call center (I'm the OnStar lady) and we're not allowed to have pens or markers for security reasons so everyone there ethier reads or crochets. I actually learned how to crochet from my fellow employees.

Which brings me to my next question, I see that there are 10 people in the swap right now which means 5 pairs of partners right? Well I have to work early on saturday so I was kind of hoping to start my slippers then. My question is if its at all possible can we be paired up before the 26th? Like us 10 be paired up and then any additional people can be paired up as they join? I've never been in a swap before and Im not sure how this works so please excuse me if this is a stupid question.

By security reasons I mean because we can use them to write down peoples credit card information etc.

Mind you,  I've learned that crochet hooks are pretty widely accepted. I have a tendency to carry a project in my purse at all times and I've gotton quite a few strange looks from bouncers at clubs and bars when they pull out a mess of yarn. The bouncer at Heat actually said that my crochet was fine "as long as it wasn't those pointy ones (knitting needles)"

It's so funny because I make them for everyone else, but I've never made a pair for myself!  lol

I can start pairing and sending out partners tomorrow night.  I know that it probably won't take anyone 4 weeks to make their package, but I figured that it was a good amount of time for everyone to get their stuff together.  I'll send out some PMs tomorrow night and the rest on Saturday night after I get home from running.  Oh, and I guess I shouldn't forget to answer my own questions so that I can have a partner.  lol  Tomorrow night will probably be later--after 9 PM MST--my husband and I get to go have dinner as adults because our son will be at some "guys night out" at church.  Wooohoo!  So exciting to have dinner alone!  :)

Okay...I've got everyone partnered up who is signed up through right now.  I sent the info to everyone--if something doesn't look right, please PM me.  :)

Just a reminder:  There are a lot of newbies here, so please remember:  Communicate with your partner when you receive your info, when you send, and when you receive.  Also--very important--you must PM me with a delivery confirmation number when you send and you MUST PM me when you receive so that I can give your partner feedback.  I think I forgot to put the info about the delivery confirmation number in the first post.  UGH!  If you're mailing within the US, you must have a DC#.  If you are sending outside of the US, please keep your reciept as proof of your sending.  Please hang onto it until your partner has received!

Getting all of the information and sending it out is my LEAST favorite part of organizing, but now, we can just get to swapping and chatting.  I went ahead and closed sign-ups.  We have an even number, and there weren't any other shows of interest this morning, so we're on our way now!

I'll introduce myself:  I am DisneyFan--aka: Lynne.  I'm 32, almost 33, married 2 1/2 years to my husband, and we have an 11 1/2 year old from my previous marriage.  Baseball season has begun already, so the next 7 months, or so, revolve around this.  It's a good thing because I get a lot of crocheting done during practices and games!  Our family is nutty about visiting Disney parks and are planning our next trip for Jan 2009--so that I can run the Walt Disney World Half Marathon.  I've already forked over my $100 for registration, but I feel like the more people I tell, the more responsible I feel for getting off my butt and going to run 2 miles tonight to prepare for a 5K in three weeks.  Baby steps--I only started running 4 months ago, and I've never been an athletic person, but I enjoy it.  I swear, if I can do it, ANYONE can do it!  So, aside from running, Disney, and baseball, I love watching movies, reading books (lately, they've all been running books), playing games like Yahtzee and SkipBo, and traveling.

Okay--enough about me!  As I said in all of the PMs I sent out, if there are any questions or concerns throughout the course of the swap, please let me know!!!  If you get a strange "feeling" about your partner--with regards to a possible flaking--let me know as soon as possible.  Don't think of it as being a tattle-tale, think of it as being proactive!  The sooner I get brought into any problems, the sooner we can fix them!

DisneyFan--you are so organized, thanks for being our fearless leader.

I am excited about this swap because i have never made slippers before and like to be forced into situations to try something new....otherwise i'll just make the same things 500 times because i know how! hopefully my partner, outofthequestion, will benefit from my adventurous spirit! anyway...there you have it.

i am also super excited and stressed right now because my first try at directing a film (i am usually an actress) got me into a rather large film festival, that will be in march...i'll add the website down below when i get it up and running. i am super stressed and so now i need crocheting and crafting in general more than ever! save me from my nerves, craftster!!

so thats a little about me.  ::)

Hi Fellow Slipper Swappers!

I am so excited to be doing my first swap; thanks again DisneyFan for organizing.
Let's see...a little about me...I'm 34 years old.  I will have been married 12 years on Feb. 29th.  I am a mother of two-a son, 11 and a daughter, 4.  I am a SAHM and full-time student (striving for BA in English).  Besides being a craft-a-holic (which takes up most of my "free" time), I love to read, travel, and play games (Wii play, guitar hero, card games, pogo.com).

Hope everone has tons of fun with the swap!

Happy Crafting!
pinkleo

ok, my excitement level for this is unbounded!  My slipper part of the package is DONE, once I started I just could not stop.  Now I just have to figure out what other goodies my partner is going to get.  I have some definite ideas!  Does anyone know how the sending and receiving works?  Do I send as soon as I am done, or do I need to wait, or what?  I am just so full of newbie questions!

hhever, you are fast!  I'm still thinking about the type of slippers I want to make for my partner and how I want to make them.

My experience with swaps is this:  When I am ready to send, I contact my partner to see where they are in the process.  I personally think it's less stressful for both partners to send around the same time.  But that's just me.

I am 44, married for 20 years, sahm to 15 yo daughter and have a 4 1/2 yo Westie named Max (What was I thinking?  :)  ).  I enjoy sewing, crocheting, knitting with a knifty knitter and paper crafts (including scrapping and cardmaking).  I was a paralegal before I quit work to be a sahm in 1998.  I also love music, reading and working crossword puzzles and sudoku.

I guess my mania worked to my advantage this time!  I just could not stop!  Since crocheting is the only method available to me for making the slippers, it was really not a hard choice.  I mean I could have hand sewed, but that take me so much longer, and my arthritis does not like hand sewing.

Since I am the crazy super poster, I guess I should tell y'all a little about me.  My name is Faye, I live in Baltimore, I am 32 (as of last Sunday), and I am currently working a contract with the State Gov't.  I really like it, but it is due to come to an end soon, and would like it to be made permanent.  I have no idea what I want to be when I grow up, but I am trying to figure it out, and in the meantime, I do this, and I teach drivers ed.  As I mentioned above I have some weird mutant arthritis which is, thank G-D under control (most of the time) with an infusion treatment that I get every 6 weeks.  I get my love of crafting from my mom, who taught me when I was little.  I am determined to learn how to knit, as that was my mom's craft of choice, and I never had the patience when she was alive.
So I am sure that that is WAY more than enough info about me, and I am sorry if I overshared.  I should go pretend to work now!

There is no such thing as oversharing!  Unless, of course, you tell us about how badly you need pepto due to nausa, heartburn, indigestion, upset stomach, and diarrhea.  lol  That, my friend, is too much information!  lol

I've had a couple of swaps where I was nervous about what I was sending, so I was glad when partners sent first so that I could gauge my package on that.  lol

I'll be sewing! I love love love to crochet, but I think it would be fun for my partner to recieve something a little different (since she crochets too ;) )

I'm a sahm also; I've two spirited (that's the polite way to say roudy lol) boys, ages 5 & 2. Oh I'm 22, we homeschool the oldest (we've just started kindergarden curriculum) and when I'm not doing mommy/household/homeschool related activities I can be found sewing, crocheting, dying, felting or attempting to spin yarn lol.

I'm so excited for my first swap, I've been on craftster for a long time (this account and I had a previous one I forgot the password to) and I've always wanted to do swaps but I was worried I wouldn't finish up in time, this one I knew I could do because I've had practice with those slippers.

A little but about myself: Well, I'm 19yrs old, (which makes me a little intimidated because you all seem to have kids hehe), um when I was in highschool I was captain of my cheerleading team, while going through my goth stage at the same time. As a result of that little contradiction nobody has ever let me forget about it. In place of children I have 2 cats, Snowflake who I've had since I was 3 and is very old, and Chloe who we found living in a car in our garage last year who has since ballooned up to a whopping 23lbs (which is pretty good for a stray hehe) and an American Eskimo Dog, Nikita who I've had for 6yrs. I started university at York this year but it was an 1hr45min commute each way by bus so I dropped out and will be starting at Durham College in the fall of this year. Right now I'm working in a call center as the OnStar lady which is pretty good but sometimes scary when you get an emergency call of somebody dying. Other than that I like doing 19yr old girl things, hanging out with friends, excercising my newfound legal right to legally drink in bars, so on and so forth.

Wow, I think Im now winning for way TMI

Question: Now it said to communicate with your partner when you recieve their info so do I just PM her and be like "HI I now know where you LIVE, but don't worry I wont hurt you I'm just going to send you slippers" ?

Ok, is it sad that this is the most fun I have had in a LONG time?  My life is kinda hectic right now, but really making stuff for Pinkleo has been so much fun, and it has given me focus.  I needed that!  I made a fun little project while I got my remicade infusion today, now I have to think if I want to do something else or not!

p.s.  My friend saw the slippers and now she covets!

I just want to make sure---everyone HAS had some sort of contact with their partner, right?  I'm crusing along on my slippers.  I'm glad people are having fun.  I really like low-pressure swaps where I can just craft something relatively quickly and send it off!  I'm getting close to being done with mine--I've just been busy the last couple days, so maybe tonight I can get it done.  After I go shopping tonight for more running socks!

Alright, I need to ask if anyone would be willing to take on a second partner.  Marylini is needing to drop out of the swap, so now, her partner, outofthequestion is without a partner!  Please PM me if you're willing to craft a second package and receive a second package!

Hi everyone, I just started my slippers (A bunch of crazy things came up and apparently they don't let you crochet in court) anyways Ive hit a snag. How is everybody sizing their slippers?

My partners shoe size is 2-3 sizes larger than mine so how do I make sure that I have the right size? Keep in mind I really have NO female friends and my mum's feet are the same size as mine so making someone else try them on would be no good.

I asked my partner to measure her foot for me :) That way I have it in inches and not just the shoe size.

When I made them for a friend I had her draw her foot, and I used that to measure.  My partners feet are a little smaller then mine so I made them a little small for me, wow that was not helpful, I am sorry.  Ask her to draw her foot, just a straight line should work for you to measure against, although I am sure there is some website out there that converts shoe size to inches or something.  Good luck!

I want to thank everyone who offered to take on a second partner for outofthequestion, but we won't need the help. Now, we're just down to 12 of us!

I swear, I'm so close to being done with the slippers--if I could only make myself crochet!  lol

I just went to walmart and found better yarn for the slippers Im making my partner. I'm starting tonight, and I'm praying I have enough leftover for a pair for me. ;D I got lucky and me and my partner have the same size feet.

Hey everyone, I just realized I haven't checked this thread in way too long (sorry to be a slacker).  Everything is going well here, especially since I was able to get clarity on some questions I had.  I am totally excited that I am going to be sending out of the country.  Everything is going well here.

;D Yea!  I have sent off my first swap.
I had so much fun shopping for and making items for hheever.

I can see swaps becoming very addicting.

I sent PM's of my info to DisneyFan and hheever.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

It's okay that we're a quiet group.  :)  It's nice to have a low-stress swap.  Plus, I don't have a lot of time to get online since I can't access Craftster at work.  I was trying to post yesterday, but the computer was so dang slow!  I'm nearly done with my stuff--I'm hoping to send out soon.

Hey all,
as Pinkleo said, I sent, she sent, it was a whole big sending thing.  I had SO MUCH fun doing this, I am totally gonna get addicted.  I did however, neglect to take pics of my stuff entirely before I sent it, so, Pinkleo, it is all you!  Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I am not worried, I will get my lovelies sooner or later.  I hope you are having fun anyways.  Plus I have to finish the other items for you, so don't feel guilty.
