Title: Zephyrstyle Tree Jacket
Post by: jesdmill on September 11, 2007 06:55:22 PM

Pattern: Tree Jacket by Zephyrstyle

Yarn: Valley Yarns Colrain in Chestnut, 9 balls for the size small knit to a tighter gauge

Needles: US 6

Notes:   I love this sweater!  I wasn’t sure about it until after blocking.  Colrain grows significantly after blocking, so I knit the 34″ size to a tight gauge (5 st/in), and I ended up with a sweater that is 32″ around the bust.  It fits perfectly!  I love the slightly spiral lace on the body, which allows the sweater to fit almost like it has waist shaping (I chose not to add any.)  The cowly neck was not working until after blocking either, but now it is just perfect!  I made my sleeves 1 inch shorter than the pattern calls for in the garter stitch section, figuring that they would grow, and I think that was a wise choice.  They would have been long otherwise.

If you are making this sweater, I would recommend a pretty drapey yarn.  Colrain is a merino/tencel blend, and works pretty well for this purpose.  An alpaca would be nice as well (but I am allergic) but I would not knit it out of a straight wool.  It needs a softer yarn in order to hang nicely.

I love this.  I have it on my list to make (once I finish the baby items I am currently making).  It really looks great on you.

It turned out beautifully!  I love the illusion of waste shaping--what a plus!  Your yarn choice is perfect.

I wasn't sure about this design, but after seeing yours I love it.  The fit and length is very flattering, and the colour really suit you.  Great job!   ;D

This is beautiful!  Gives me more motivation to hurry up and finish mine.  I am now at the shaping part.  I haven't decided whether to shape or not.  After seeing what it looks like without the shaping--I think I won't do it either.

I wouldn't add shaping.  The way the lace spirals gives it the illusion of waist shaping, and doing actual shaping might mess it up.  I wasn't sure either, because I always do shaping, but I'm surprisingly happy with this one.  Good luck with yours!

I don't think mine is spiraling.  Maybe it is but it just appears straight.  I am not all that far into the body (about 3 inches).

But even if it isn't...I'll still knit it without shaping.  They say that vertical lines makes a person look slimmer!!
