I thought I would put this up just in case when partnering comes around, someone gets paired with someone whose favorites they aren't familiar with.

*links to anime/manga sites*
*pm me if you would like more details*
* i won't keep the links up here, copyright issues, i guess*

I was trying to get this started and have my swapping fix met before school picked up. At least I'd have about 2 weeks of calm after classes start. I love the getting to know each other's limit period like that.  ;)

Is anyone here familiar with live actions?
I want to include some ones that I really like on my questionnaire, but I don't know if that would be fair.

See, I really loved the Nana live action movie, and kamikaze girls was pretty good too, I also hear goong is worth a look.

for awhile I really wanted to see the death note live action, but the reviews were not so great.

Title: Re: Anime/Manga Swap Round 2- SIGNUPS 8/14-8/24

I've been wanting to see the Death Note live action too!  The only live action that I've watched all the way through was Nodame Cantabile and I ADORE it, so much more than the anime.  I found that in the anime they cheaped out on the animation during the orchestral scenes, and just showed a lot of still shots of the characters.  The live action is wonderful though, and the orchestra is so interesting to watch!  Each character has their own characteristic way that they play their instrument in the orchestra and it's so much more engaging than the anime.  And the girl that plays Nodame is adorable!  And Mine's hair!  With his awesome hair clips!  The anime doesn't even come close to showing that awesomeness there.  But I should stop rambling now.....

Post by: madpimp on August 15, 2007 11:39:31 PM
<3 live action... Matsumoto Jun is just too cute [gokusen 1, hana yori dango]...  I think live actions based on mangas or animes are a-ok in my book... It's related and you probably seen/read both anyhow. =]

At least that's the case with me. :)

BTW, how many have you guys watched?  My tally hit 150 series recently... [i started keeping an excel sheet when i hit around 100]... I feel like such a loser.

Although, I did start watching in like, 97... So technically that's like, 15 series a year, right?  Which is only, like... one series a month... :X

The only live action I've ever watched was the Sailor Moon live action series, and I think the anime club was just showing it to make fun of it because it was so cheesy.  But even so, I don't think watching it EVERY WEEK was necessary.

I don't know how many anime series I've watched totally, but I have about 120 gigs full of anime and about 80 DVDs.

Wow, I feel so behind now. I only started watching anime when I started college. So I've seen maybe about 30, plus 5 live actions. I've read more manga, just cuz I usually prefer that over anime, and I also like one-shots, so they go faster.

I didn't get into anime until university either.  Up until then, I'd only ever seen a few anime movies, like Ghost in the Shell and Akira.  Based on those, it was enough for me to relegate anime to the 'weird and only barely watchable' category.  But then my brother sent me the Escaflowne DVD's and everything changed.  It had a plot I could follow!  It had character development!  It had humour and romance and drama!  Escaflowne changed everything for me, and I've been addicted to anime ever since.  I didn't have a lot of time to watch too many series while I was in school, but after I graduated I spent a summer job-searching (at my brother's house with ultra high speed internet!) and that definitely helped to up my anime count.  This past year has been pretty good too since my job gives me a lot of free time so I've been able to watch more older animes as well as keep up with some new and current ones.   I haven't done a count recently, but I'd say I'm maybe somewhere around 50 series/movies watched.

I've only seen PGSM, too. I couldn't finish it though, because it was pretty much Sailor Moon meets Power Rangers on the cheesiness scale.

I totally recommend Hana Yori Dango, Gokusen 1&2, and Nodame Cantabile [though i like the anime better for all of these :) ... The LA are still worth watching]

Oh, hana yori dango's live action has been on my to watch list for a while. The only reason I haven't seen it yet is cuz I thought it was made  in Taiwan and had a different name.

while we're recommending things, I would suggest the Nana live action. I love it so much! If nothing else, watch it for the music.  :D

I got the Death Note movies off of discountanimedvd.com for rather cheap, about $12 each, and they're beautifully cast.  I enjoyed them, but, like the manga, they tend to drag a bit.  They deviate from the manga and the anime a bit, but I enjoyed them and thought they were well done.  I was a bit sat that Near and Mellow weren't in them, though!  I did the first round of this swap and had a wonderful swap angel (my original parner flaked, then deleted her account or something) so I may try this one.

AHH! Kamikaze girls FTW! I LOVE that movie so much! It makes me so happy <3 <3

Any other CLAMP fangirls around? My best friend got me hooked =O I have several art books from CLAMP now and some other series.

Also, any other cosplayers? I love it so much. I'd love to see some costume pics anyone has! I've been Cosplaying for going on 5 years now! Woohoo!

And, on that note, I will be going to a Con September 1-3 so I plan on shopping for my partner while there! I'm so friggin' excited. I'm already crazy excited for the con, but now that I will have something to shop for, that makes it EVEN cooler.

YAY!

I love CLAMP.  I've never read anything they did that I didn't love!

Also, I've only cosplayed once, but we had so much fun.  It was my first con and we did an InuYasha group.  lol, I was Inu-Yasha.  Complete with bare feet and long nails.  The wig was a nightmare, though, lol.
Cheesy Pics:

And in a video game swap, I had an amazing partner knit and dye me Rikku's scarf, from Final Fantasy X-2.  I could never cosplay her, but the scarf was then envy of many last winter! She also made me Yuna's necklace!

Oooh, good call on the con, Kirashii!  I'm hoping to make it to the giant anime/comic/horror/sci-fi con in Toronto next weekend.  Hopefully I can pick up some goodies there with crafting potential  :D

I really wanted to try Otakon this year, but I couldn't afford it. Last year Nana Kitade performed! I was so bummed that I keep missing Otakon!

Maybe I'll be able to go to Nekocon when it rolls around in November. It's a 3-hour drive, but I think it'd be better to try a smaller con before I jump into Otakon anyway.

I envy all the people who are going to conventions soon and can pick up stuff for their partners.

ZOMG! You did a good job as Inu. I've seen many do it and not pull it off so great XD I wore a Chi style wig when my buddy and I did Chi/Freya from Chobits. Yes, long wigs suck ASS D:

Arzu, that rocks! I <3 comics, too haha. I'm a Mutants nerd and Tank Girl fanatic :O

Also SilverWing, I saw that scarf in the swap! I did the latest round of the swap and was looking around at the galleries, and I was like "ZOMG THAT SCARF ROCKS!" Haha.

I've heard crazy good things about Otakon :O My con is Oregon's first/only con, so it's managable sized, not too huge :)

Thankies!  It was a lot of fun.  I'm jealous of the con-goers.  We went to Anime Weekend Atlanta last year and had an absolute blast, but we couldn't afford it this year.  ;_;

And that's it, I just sent in my info.  I'd sworn off swaps for a bit, but I can't resist this one.  >.<

totally random but, I love your avatar!

side note: all those animes you listed, do you watch them dubbed? I haven't even tried watching any dubs since fushigi yuugi got messed up so horribly, but I was thinking it might be fun to see the differences between each version of bleach.

I generally tend to try to stay away form the dubs- I too remember Fushigi Yuugi and Sailor Moon. But the Bleach dub isn't so bad.

Here are some of the costumes I've done:
Nurse with pink hair, my boyfriend is Pyramid-Head. (I made both our clothes, he made the props)

Full metal alchemist group with my buddies.. I am the Winry, holding the wrench.

Yui from Fushigi Yuugi. My best friend was Miaka <3

Wow, that's one of the best Winry cosplays I've seen!
Awwhh, thanks! I worked hard on that cosplay - I even made sandals! There was another cute Winry cosplayer there, and they had us on stage to explain to be nice with other cosplayers that do the same character. I can't believe my hair was that long!!

I have so many ideas brewing in my head >.>.... I can't wait, tehe.

Uhm... *steps out from lurking*

EDIT: Okay, after skimming the last pages of this thread, I've determined I'm not the only one who is doing this as their first swap. I would like to be included :D

Is it alright if I send the questionnaire tomorrow? (Which will be in like... eight hours, when I wake up). It's 2 in the morning, and I want to just confirm with my parents that I can give someone our address over the internet.  ;D

The first anime/manga swap we had was my first swap ever, and it was awesome.  Kitten, this is a great time for you to get your feet wet with swapping, and you'll have a ton of fun!

Let the stalking commence! ;)

Partners are now up!

It was kinda hard to match people based on both their favorite anime/manga genres and what they wanted to get. So if anyone needs extra help for inspiration, I'll post up more links to download anime and manga.

This is my first time organizing, so I really hope I did okay with partnering.  :-[

There are a lot of people here with quite different interests, so you're never going to achieve a perfect matchup.  You're doing an awesome job with organizing so far!

Checking in~
How's everybody feeling about this swap? Partners good? Got the creative juices flowing yet?

I started to download most of the animes I need to watch last night, but they still have 2 days to finish downloading. Thankfully I've been known to watch an entire 52 episode series in 3 days, then I can get some crafting done!

I'm feeling pretty good about it. I don't know very much about my partner's favourite animes and mangas, but I'm excited to do some research on them. They were basically on a list in my mind of titles to check out at some point, but I've never gotten around to it. Here's a good excuse for me to be lazy for a few days and get into them  :D

I have to wait until payday to get started on one of my small-ish items.  It's something I've never done before, but it *should* be pretty easy to do....  I hope?  XD;

I'm feeling a bit down, guys  :(

I've always had troubles with self-confidence, and for some reason, between having difficulties thinking up ideas for a "large" gift and not being able to gain proper access to the animes, I need to research, my old negatve ways are coming back to me...

To top it all off, my pet cat Abbey hasn't been very well the past few days. She's 19 years old this year, so I can understand why she's deteriorating, but... this cat is older than me... and I have extreme emotional attatchments to things.

Maybe working on this will take my mind off of her?  ??? I'll try my best...

Sorry if that was boring to read... Hope everyone else is doing well with their projects.  :)

*hugs Fluffed*  I feel the same way about my cats.  Watching them get old is never easy.  They're little fuzzy family members.

As for your swap items, it's pretty normal to be nervous about your first swap.  Don't feel overwhelmed.  Remember that a large item is the equivalent of two medium or four small items, so you can substitute.  If the anime criteria is giving you trouble, try brainstorming first what sort of craft you can make that your partner would like, and focus on the craft first, and 'add an anime twist' to it second.  There are lots of things you can make anime-ish using a little embroidery or paint.  If you can't get access to an anime series, just do a google image search for that series or particular characters, and read some reviews on the series.  Don't forget to have fun with your crafting :D

I wouldn't mind a extended deadline frankly.

My grandmother just had a stroke and lost all use of her right arm and I've been spending my usual crafting hours at the hospital. Also, the deadline is on a Saturday and I don't think my post office is open. If they are they probably close early on that day just like the banks here. I would have to send by the Wednesday before to get it out on time with the way my work schedule has been. But due to these family circumstances thats going to be hard for me. :-\

I'm with saturn on this one, items that i have ordered have not come in yet and between getting an early start on halloween costumes (2 full Jedi ensembles, w/ lightsabers  :-\) and potty training my dd (i'm so clueless about this... ???) things on my swap front have slowed a bit.

So how does Oct 3rd sound? That's an extra week and a half.

Honestly, I'd probably need the extra time too. I'm working nights full-time now, and school's picking up, so my crafting time is dramatically decreased.

Saturn, I'm sorry about your grandmother! I only work with stroke patients occasionally, but it's still really sad. Especially when their mind is there, but the body doesn't want to agree with them.

Well, I'll likely be sending early since I've just signed up for two other swaps, and should really be getting this one out of the way before starting those.  My goal for this semester is to have all my work done in advance (except for the second day of class where I walked in and realized I'd forgotten to do the assigned readings...doh!) so maybe my school enthusiasm and staying-on-top-of-everything will translate to my crafting too!  Assuming all goes well of course....the tricky part of my crafts are yet to come  *crosses fingers that craft concept will be as awesome in reality as it is in her imagination*

Hey all,

Just as an update; we brought in my cat to be put down today.

The story, for those interested:

She was two months shy of being 19-years-old, and just in the past few days she started to slow down. About three days ago she stopped walking around and only left her sleeping spot to use the litter box. She was at the vet all day yesterday being treated for dehydration and constipation.

Today, she was unable to even move from where she slept (we know because she peed right where she was sleeping). We brought her into the vet and found that her body temperature was dreadfully low and her heartrate was dropping. When we brought her home to say goodbye, she refused to even open her eyes, let alone eat or drink. So about ten minutes ago, my mom and my sister left to take her in (I cannot stand vet offices).

So... I'm going to try to keep my head on straight and continue with life, but I know that probably won't happen for a few days. Honestly, though, I got myself into this craft swap and I need to get stuff done by the time it's due.

Sorry for that depressing note on what should have been a happy day.

I hope everyone else's crafting is going well  :-)

Awwwwwwwwwww. Your poor kitty. That makes me sad, kinda reminds me of how my boycat was before he died. Except he was only 3 months old, not 19 years, so I guess I can't really say I relate so well.

Don't work yourself too hard, it's not good to ignore your sadness too much.

Awww, Fluffed, I hope you're doing better.  That's really rough.

As for me, I spent most of the afternoon crafting.  The guys in my house were very skeptical about this 'craft business' from the start, giving me looks when I went to the craft store that said, "Oh, she's doing her girl-hobbies again" but now that the actual crafts are taking shape, they're much more interested, and the comments have turned to, "Whoa, you can actually make that?" and now they have ideas for things I could make them, hehe.  Silly boys.

Sorry to hear about yer kitty Fluffed, that's always hard. I admire your willingness to complete your obligation of the swap. Not too many people would be able to do that! (I myself probably wouldn't want to finish >.<!)

Out of curiousity, does anyone know about how long it would take a package to get from Ontario to California, or vice versa? I want to know so that I don't find myself running to the mailbox every day for the next month being excited... I want to limit it to only two weeks of that, my heart can only take so much  ;)

Just wanted to say, you're doing great as an organizer, with your consistant communication and listening in on your craftsters progress. You've really made this low-stress for me with the date extension esp. with all that suddenly happened in my crazy life. lol. But my grandma is regaining some use of her arm, hurray!  ;D

I told everyone to "take a number" for tomorrow. I'm fineally just going to have a day for me and my swap package. Crafting morning to night with no interference and it should be a rainy day. I'm going to make some raspberry tea (my fav!) and burn some scented candles in my nice clean house (Cleaning tonight instead of tomorrow, hehe) I should be able to get the large thing to about 80% and finish the smaller things. ;) :D

Fluffed Kitten: I'm honestly not to sure about the sending time to Canada. But it's my guess that it depends how you send it and what postal service you use. I can tell you however that I have had splendid results with using UPS to send internationaly. They delivered all of my e-bay send-outs when they estimated they would and sometimes even delievered early. Any postal service should give you an estimated time though. At the very least, ground usually takes 7-10 days.
