Title: fishing reel case?
Post by: owl be there on April 22, 2007 12:12:57 PM
I'm sorry if purses, bags, wallets is the wrong spot to put this but its the closest I think - a case / cozy is sortof like a bag? anyway my cousin wants me to make him a fishing reel case thing that goes over the reel when its on the actual fishing rod and then goes over the handle and drawstrings over the part of the reel thing where it attaches to the rod...sorry if that doesnt make sense lol...heres sort of a picture:

and yeah..then it would drawstring around the part where the reel attaches to the fishing rod...any ideas how i could make this? or anyone who has made one differently?

I've never seen anything like these, but, what a terrific idea!!!! I love to fish and something like this would keep your reel clean and unharmed.  It looks simple enough.  I would use neoprene fabric and cut two half-circles and one rectangle the length of the distance between the top of reel where it meets the rod and the same spot at the bottom.  Sew the edges of the rectangle to the circle tops (serge or zig-zag the seams), turn right side out.  Cut two strips of neoprene long enough to go around the top and one for the bottom, stitch them on the top of the cover and the bottom, put velcro on the ends and viola! that should do it!

Recently I've seen neoprene fabric scraps listed on Ebay. It's a little pricey.  Polar fleece with a craft foam sheet glued to it might work just as well.  Even a scrap of pre-quilted fabric should work using elastic to secure the cover to the reel and pole.  Let me know how it goes or if you need clarification of my quickie suggestion.

I'd love to see the results here.  Great ideas, Neeterg.  I can almost visualize how to do this and I'm terrible at that skills.  thanks.  catdaddytn

I would love to see how it comes out.  Your picture is of a bait cast reel and the cover would be for that kind of reel.  I use a spinning reel so I would have to give that one some more thought because it's a waaaaaay different shape.

Good Luck!
