Title: Felt felt felt- ! New pics on page 2
Post by: lexis on January 25, 2007 09:26:32 AM
Hi everyone- Been awhile since I posted anything new- so I got off my lazy bum and uploaded some new pics. It was a bonus because it was sunny yesterday!  ;D

Been ordering lots of new fibres for some big consignment orders I am filling and hope this will also go to some classes I'll be teaching here in Vancouver in March and April too. I can't wait- I am pretty excited...but then again- that could be nerves. hahahaha!

So, some fibre 'porn'  ;) for you to look at- I got a gorgeous hand-dyed lot from feltstudiouk, ah-! I am her BIGGEST fan!  ;D

and a shipment from Dreamspin Fibres in Ontario-

SLURP!!!! I LOVE it all- I grabbed lots of superfine merino-18.5 microns!! it feels just like clouds! I can't wait to see what it looks like felted. Like a suede finish they say.  ;D
The turquiose/brown/black in the bottom left corner is dyed silk laps. Never used them before but should be TONS of fun in Wet Felt.

and I did make something for myself- FINALLY! lol. Been so busy around here- I needed to stop. and take care of my needs.  ;) Cold here on the water in January, so I made a felted sash- or belt tie. I can wear it over jeans/pants and tie it on my hip. Super cosy and warm.
For the tie, I used my favourite handspun that I've managed to ply so far. So I am happy, and will probably make more in February- after the storm clears in my inbox.  ;)
Hope you like-I saved some of my fave colourway from feltstudiouk for this project. Of course!  ;D

Belt is so hip!  Beautiful color combo and design.

Ohhh the fiber is luscious.  Felt Studio colorways are amazing and the fiber is so lovely to use.  The other is beautiful too - have not tried there yet.

Thanks so much misscritta, GO, and snacker.  :)

I don't deny that I am currently in fibre heaven these days.  ;) ;D but it's almost overwhelming - I can't decide what to do next! lol.
The superfine merino does felt almost instantly- so that makes me even more happy.
Will post some progress pics in this thread as I make more stuff
Have a Great weekend everyone.

How exciting for you!
I bet you'll be awesome
You're a fairly straight to the point kinda gal and I bet that transfers to your teaching style too.
Are you teaching a specific project or felting as a whole?

My goodness - that img did have me lusting. Badly!
I've not purchased from feltstudiouk but you're certainly tempting me.
I've done a bit of slub dying myself, but it so much more inspiring to use other people's creations.

Fairly straight kinda gal huh?  ;) haha. yea- or brutally honest as some others would say.
I am going to teach the basics of wet felting by making Felt Flowers-with a little bit of needle felting combined. So a specific project trying to cover as much as I can in 3 hours.
I hope it works!

And feltstudiouk's dyed roving is always a fantastic inspiration to use in felting - She is SO talented and has such a great eye for colour. You should try it out- It felts like a dream.

Jane have you ever tried Treetops Roving? It's Australian - I've just discovered them and they are Great! Their superfine merino in nuance colours and colour harmonies are superb. Tried the superfine in another sash, and it is fabulous- like suede- Tightens right up and looks so smooth, with minimum effort. And their colourways are DEE-Lish!

Thanks so much for encouraging me. The classes still make me a tiny bit nervous...but that's the shy girl talking! heehee.
Happy Day everyone. :)

Wiping off drool now.

That sash looks wide, are you going to wear it like an obi?

No, I've not heard of "Treetops Roving" before but after a quick google I've found em
Cheers for the reference :)
My goodness their colour combos are lush!
My faves are machu picchu, confetti, and spice market
mmm, colours like those really urge me to make more large pieces
Like a winter cape or a queen sized blanket!

And don't be shy with your teaching - you know a lot about felting
Be confident when going in, that you've plenty to share with your students  ;)

Thanks ladies.  :) Thank you, really.

radal-  ;D dont drool on me heehee. not intended to be an obi, persay, BUT that would work. (I really want an obi-) I use it to keep my bum warm-measured for my fairly generous, yet All-Woman-ly hips.  :D lol! That's a good idea for them though.. hmm. I've got piles of more fibres combined to do a few more..
Originally intended the width to be long enough to cover that spot in between the top of your jeans, and that bottom of your shirt where -all MY flesh likes to reaveal itself. hahah. Actually, I could start making them for all those girls who think they can fit into the worlds smallest low-rise jeans- that do NOTHING to flatter a beautiful girls figure. To hell with low rise jeans! haha but i digress..

I am actually attempting my version of 'arty' freeform stitching on it and another I've made with pink viscose in the first picture of roving.(will try to post pics when they're done)

Jane- Glad you found them- I have been drooling myself. That brown and hot pink roving (Turkish Delight), as well as that blue, teal brown silk lap (Indian Ink) in the 2nd fibre pic is from Treetops. I am in love with their Rhubarb colour way too. The colours are much darker and deeper than the pics provided tho- keep that in mind. I expected rosy pink and got Deep fuschia instead. not a problem but..
I Reeeelly want to make a felted blanket too- Just not enough space here! :(
Thanks for the encouragement on teaching too. I actually feel really confident about it. Even when I'm here felting alone- I go through my head all the things I would say if I were teaching someone what I was doing.  ::) hah! Im a dork.
But I think I'm destined to teach... although my mum would just say I'm destined to be bossy. hahaha! ;D

*****Without the support and friendship of all of you wonderful people here in the felting forums- I wouldn't be doing ANY of this!!!!! PLEASE Know That.  :-* xoxo

And got out my dear trusty assistant- the 'Italian Stallion' sewing machine to create artistic stiched patterns on the surfaces here:

Thanks for looking. :)

Thanks so much!

natiux- yer' talking to a "handmade hippy" right here.  Hahaha! ;D well, not a hippy- but raised by hippies (similar to being raised by wolves. heehee- i'm kidding.)  ;)

GO- Thanks - I thought of you while I had the Machine out. A Necchi -with old-school wiring. The foot pedal is metal with little air holes- Gets VERY hot whenever I run her too long. The engine puffs out a small puff of smoke everytime she's revved up! hahaha.
The necklace was a birthday present 2 years ago from teamwang. Needle felted of course! ;D

thanks so much radal- can you believe I havent had the 'beast' out since that pouch I made you!?!?!?!?!?!? Ack! seriously!  :D too long- I have a few more ideas, but it's getting harder and harder to implement them all, as I am quickly quickly running out of space here in our little shack and spend most of my time shuffling things around.
:P  ::)
