Other Official Type Stuff:

1. Delivery Confirmation Numbers will be required for swap packages that are being sent within the United States. If you’re sending a package to another country, or if you don’t reside in the United States, please save your receipts!  Remember to send the DCN info to your swap partner(s) and the organizer (that would be me, Melesse)!

Shipping Tip For US Residents (courtesy of kategirl): The USPS requires that the package measures at least ¾” thick for a DCN.  If your package is too flat, it might be necessary to bulk up the package with a couple of plastic grocery bags to get the DCN!

Shipping Tip for Sending TO Canada: Canadian Customs really, really likes getting their cut ($5 handling fee plus taxes on the declared value). Please remember to mark your customs form with gift and NCV (No Commercial Value) or NA (Not Applicable) when sending to Canada.

For US swappers sending to Canada (thanks to yarncookie for the info): The name of the form is Custom Declaration CN-22 (PS Form 2976) and is green and white. But you have to fill it out at the post office, you can't get it off the USPS website.

2. It is important to communicate with your partners and the organizer.  You must let the organizer and your partner know when you have shipped, received or may be late!  You are still responsible for sending out the swap package in a timely manner!

3. I will be leaving feedback based on communication and shipping. Trust me there’s no way to over-communicate with me. ;)

4. Please, send what you’d like to receive -- don’t use the swap as a chance to get rid of lousy stuff.

Information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:

Name of swap:
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name (first and last, please):
Mailing address (don’t forget your country!):

I have a silly question...do magazine pages/clippings count as ephemera? And should everything be acid-free? Or should we leave it up to what our partners need/want?  ;D

yeah i definitely lucked out. when i saw the box full of them i started digging through looking for some with audrey hepburn. the guy had each one priced for about $3 or $4 a piece but he just offered the whole box to me for $15! i was visiting my mom in missouri so i had to fly back with this stuff. i wound up borrowing a big duffle bag from her and cramming it all in there. lol it was worth it!

Ember77,

Not silly at all. I feel that magazine pages & clippings definitely count as ephemera. I know I personally don't care about acid-free-ness so I think I'm going to leave it up to the partners to decide.

Everyone else (including lurkers that are debating signing up!):

Please consider shipping outside your country. From the rough partnerings I've been making in my head (because I don't have enough going on in there driving me crazy already, woe) it's looking like the non-US swappers won't be able to send (or more to the point) receive the full amount they'd like.

Poking around on the USPS (http://usps.gov) site, and pulling a random weight of 16oz out of thin air, it would cost: $4.65 USD to send that pound 'o paper love to Canada, and $4.05 USD to send it within the US. Soooo, not too painful, eh? :)

Yay! I just got approved for this one! Have a couple of questions....

In addition to the vintage paper, books, and misc. ephemera I have, I also have the Ephemera and More Ephemera books that have some cool things in them. Would it be ok to add one of those books or part of it into a package for this? It wouldn't be all i send, but i want to add some of the pages as i have an extra book i got for $4 at Archiver's. SO i guess i am asking if those type of book pages or photocopies of them are cool to add to the packages in addition to old original ephemera.:)
I am about to leave in 10 minutes to go to estate sales.....I will pick up some things i normally don't especially for this swap! :) woo hoo!

Thanks!

Will this be more of a surprise package kind of swap or are we trying to tailer our envelope to our partners (if possible)??  I've been looking thru the giant stash and have found stuff I've forgotten I had - should be fun trying to get it stuffed into an envelope!

Thanx to all of you who are willing to swap outside the US-sometimes I feel so far away here in Canada ;)  If its any consolation we really get screwed price-wise by Canada Post to send anywhere-even in Canada.  But its all worth it for new paper goodies!

I have been starting to cull through my stash and make a pile of what I'll be sending. When I get my partner, I'll see what sort of thing stuff they're interested in, and try to add that to the mix.

I'm considering this.

Just wondering though...is there a section on the questionairre where we can say what kind of paper we would like to recieve and/or are able to send eg styles, sizes etc?

Lots of questions! Ok, let's see....

SO i guess i am asking if those type of book pages or photocopies of them are cool to add to the packages in addition to old original ephemera.

I feel that the pages from the books themselves would be ok (I want some! mmmm!). Photocopies are a bit iffy, but since it comes under the heading of paper, put 'em in!

Will this be more of a surprise package kind of swap or are we trying to tailer our envelope to our partners (if possible)??

The basic concept is a surprise swap. If when communicating with your partner you discover you're both scrapbooking fiends (for example)  and want to only send stuff tailored to that craft, more power to you! But there is no expectation at all that you have to tailor your send envelope to your partner(s).

Just wondering though...is there a section on the questionairre where we can say what kind of paper we would like to recieve and/or are able to send eg styles, sizes etc?

Nope. This is a surprise swap, the closest you get to asking for something specific is envelope size, which is a suggestion for what you and your partner should be sending. Sending a 12x15 sized envelope and filling it with 8x11 stuff is just uncool.

Everyone:

This is a quick little swap for envelopes of paper and ephemera. The option of going up an envelope size is so the people that have and want 12"x12" pages can participate as well. While you don't want to just fill the envelope with yesterday's newspaper, stick a stamp on it and send it, you also don't need to worry about being specific in what you send. If it's paper, it's fair game. There are so many varied and fabulous uses for paper that I'm sure we can all find a use for what we get. :)

Edit: Please check the galleries from previous rounds to get an idea of what to send, and what you may receive. I've linked to them in the first post of the thread.

so for whatever size envelope we chose, does the majority of the paper/ephemera that goes in the envelope have to be of that size or do we just fill it to the top with any size of paper.  the reason i'm asking is because most of the things I would be able to send are postcards, origami papers, bits of nice wrapping paper and maybe some interesting brochure/flier type thingies.  these are all fairly small in size, but would it be ok if i just fill the envelope as much as i can, even if the actual individual pieces of ephemera aren't as large as the envelope.

does this make sense?  sorry if i've confused anyone.  :-[

actually, that brings up a concern for me too. because i put i would like to send 8 1/2 x 11 but that i'm flexible and can send the larger size, in my questionnaire. but if i have to send pages that are actually that size, then i'll have to stick to the 81/2 x 11. i thought it was more along the lines of filling that particular envelope size, not really the size of paper you're sending. sorry, just trying to clarify, not be a pain.  ;D

Oh yes, I was under the impression that we'd send all different types/sizes of paper. I've got some 8.5 x 11 sheets that I'd probably send, as well as little bits of various ephemera. I was just going to stuff the envelope with all sorts of things.

I have various sizes of fun things to stuff with, too. I do altered books and atc cards, so I don't really need 12x12 pages. I like all kinds of interesting things, like the postcards and origami paper.  :)

Ok, let's see if I can clarify. In the idea thread (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=105675.10) for this swap the concern was raised that people wanted 12x12" pages, which would only fit into an 8x11" envelope if cut down or folded, essentially ruining the usefulness of a 12x12" page. So the option of sending and receiving 12x15" envelopes was added to the swap -- so people could send 12x12" pages.

I'm assuming this is what's throwing people off? "Sending a 12x15 sized envelope and filling it with 8x11 stuff is just uncool.", let me re-phrase it to say "sending just small stuff is uncool". This is because if you have a partner who's asking for 12x15" because they'd like to receive big sheets of paper and they don't get any at all, it's disappointing.

The majority of the paper does not have to be the size of the envelope. The assumption I had (and it appears most have) is that it's a mixture of bits and bobs of awesome paperness, ranging from the size of the envelope to teensy tiny pieces. I think the thing to keep in mind while making up the envelope is the kazillions of uses for the paper you're sending. There's book-making, scrapbooking, etc for the large sheets and ATCs, collages, origami, etc for the smaller bits. A selection that is useful to many crafts is ideal here.

For example I'm going to be sending: 8x11 sheets of coloured paper, old letterhead from long gone businesses, schematics from an architect's files, pages from books in other languages, postcards, origami paper, mulberry paper, envelopes, paint chip cards, stickers, tissue paper, note paper, greeting cards, lucky star folding strips, some vellum, stamps, finger paint paper, heck, I may toss in a bit of post it notes if I have room. And that's off the top of my head.

Does that clarify?

Thanks for the clarification! I will just rip out pages of the book then! I collect original vintage ephemera, old books, cards, tickets, bingo cards etc. I like the idea of the surpise too, but will probably clarify if my partner wants things like that or a huge stack of scrap book paper which I have too. Wouldn't want to send the jewels of my stash if someone didn't want it! Can't wait for this to start, thank you for organizing Melesse and clarifying, and clarifying, and clarifying..... :-)

OK I think I will probably sign up for this.  I have a whole shopping bag of free postcards and concert fliers I have picked up around Melbourne as well as some really nice wrapping papers that can be used in journal making/card making and a stash of origami papers.  I also have some obscure/foreign candy wrappers and a collection of easter egg papers (none have any food residue, i swear!)

I live in Australia though.  Has anyone offered to ship internationally yet?

edit:  another question - do old photographs count?  sorry for being incredibly annoying  :-[

We're good for international shippers for sure, the problem earlier was that we didn't have enough and needed more to match up with the ones we had at the time. *cough*me*cough*

what's a car-boot sale? Is that when you get to buy cars that have been booted?

Isn't the boot of a car the trunk? So maybe like a garage sale type thing?

Oh yeah, forgot it's not called the same over there! :D I'll try and clarify.

They're called car-boot sales because you sell all the stuff you cart there in your boot (the rear of the car where you carry a load of useless stuff *just because* it might rain...you might want to draw...you never know when binoculars and a blanket might come in handy...)

You drive onto the field and sell stuff from your car-boot. I think traditionally you opened up your car and sold stuff right out of the back, some places probably still so, but most people are far more organised and cart it onto a table to sell :D

Ohhhh....here car boots are those yellow things they put on your car tires so they cant be driven, so that you pay them money to take it off...every so often you see 3 or 4 cars on the street with a boot on them. They do them for unpaid parking tickets.

anyway...

super excited. I think I alreay have lots of my paper collected. I still want to find a few more bits and bobbs though, for sure!

Patience, my pretties. ;) Offline life's a bit crazy at the moment since I start full-time university in 2 weeks (textbooks, paying tuition, all assorted administrative crap, etc, whee!) and my daughter starts grade 6 in one week. I'm also organizing 2 swaps at the moment and when I get to swap stuff I batch job -- approve, respond with approval PM (or ask for more clarification) and add to my spreadsheet is one batch, adding to the swapping database and this thread is another.

With that said, this batch brings our number to 20 swappers! We're up to date as of this post. :)

Mmmmm, paper.

Yay for paper goodness! I love paper and stickers. I knew those anthropologie catalogs would come in handy lol.

Also, if needed I can ship overseas. I don't HAVE to stay in the US. The only problem is that I may need to wait for a paycheck to ship since rent is coming up. That's the only problem I see with sending overseas.

Hah, I shipped this morning! :) (I got the envelopes ready on the weekend)

Ok, reminders from your keener organizer!

Remember to include papers of all sizes. Take care to include a selection of papers that match the size of your envelope as well as bits and bobs of other sizes. 8x11 envelopes should have some 8x11" papers, 12x15" envelopes should have some 12x12" papers.

Remember to get a DCN if shipping within the USA, a receipt and/or customs form if sending internationally. Keep your receipt in a safe, memorable place until your partner receives and I've updated your status. Photographing your receipt is a good way to cover your bases.

Remember to keep in good communication with your partner and especially me! Let us know if you're going to be late, when you ship and when you receive.

Remember to post pictures of what you receive and thank your partner in the swap gallery thread (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=117597.0). Make whomever taught you manners proud! ;)

I think that's it!

I'm also pretty much ready to go and will send after the long weekend.  Is this just something I have never noticed before-what I always assumed to be an 8 x 12 envelope is really a 9 x 12 envelope-now that I've started really looking at all the stores,9 x 12 is all I can find.   I could have sworn I've purchased 8 x 12 before.  Maybe its some strange Canadian metric conversion thing(welcome to the land of metric/imperial system!!)  I've found so much stuff that I had forgotten about in my various stashes-its been a little difficult to stay on task(craft distraction ;D) and can't wait to see what new goodies come my way!

In updating my database for this swap tonight I realized there are a number of parcels that I haven't been informed if they've arrived -- so I checked with USPS using the DCNs.  >:(

If you have received a parcel for this swap, check your partner's status on the information post (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=114190.msg1091039#msg1091039), and if they are still showing green you MUST SEND ME A PM.

At this point in time, the people who are showing on the USPS site as having received their parcels (some over a week ago!!) will receive a "needed to be reminded to communicate" note in their feedback if they PM me within the next 48 hours. Otherwise I will leave feedback that says "did not communicate, poor swapper."

Communication with your organizer is a fundamental part of the swapping system. That I have a list of people that haven't PMed me to say they've received is crap. Especially with the new swap rules -- you're holding back another person who has met their responsibilities to move onto another swap.

I am so sorry that I have been such a poor swapper and I hope everyone will forgive. I am very sorry that I shipped out late (however I did contact everyone as soon as I possibly could). Right after this swap started I ended up working 12 hour shifts, have been sick and have been packing up my apartment. None of this was ever planned and again I am truly sorry that I did not keep in touch more often.

I did receive both packages and they are super fabulous and I adore everything that was sent to me from both princess_me and xladyluckx and will take pictures as soon as I can. (My camera recently died).
