Post by: SublimeStitcher on August 07, 2006 08:14:26 PM
The NEW BOOK!
Sublime Stitching: Hundreds of Hip Embroidery Patterns and How-To
by Jenny Hart for Chronicle Books

Yay! The new book is already appearing on shelves at some booksellers, but it will be EVERYWHERE in October. If you're just dying, beg for it at your local bookseller, or order it direct from Chronicle Books (http://www.chroniclebooks.com/site/catalog/index.php?main_page=pubs_product_book_info&products_id=5966&store=books). I'll have copies for sale on Sublime Stitching (http://www.sublimestitching.com) in about a month, and they'll be signed.  ::)

About the book: The first half is an expanded how-to on embroidery, with additional tips, tricks and cautionary tales. There are new stitches for you learn, plus the introduction of some previously unknown stitches discovered while embroidering in the field. These stitches were not found in any other reference book, so I gave them names like Twinkle Stitch and Bamboo Stitch (it's fun to invent stitches- you should try it). Brand new project examples and lots of pretty photos abound. The second half is made up of over 90 ALL NEW transfer patterns: rhumba dancers, teapots, baby stuff, race cars, owls, swans, muscial instruments, fruit, pastries, more dogs, more cats, more banners, more alphabets...more, more, more. When you cut a pattern from the book, the front and back inside cover have folder pockets so you can store them for later use! The book is $19.95 and you can order it here! (http://www.chroniclebooks.com/site/catalog/index.php?main_page=pubs_product_book_info&products_id=5966&store=books)

Hey! The book will have over 90 ALL NEW Patterns. Totally new and unique to the book. I'm going to flesh out the description above in a little bit....

Also, just to make things utterly confusing: you may see the book in stores as early as mid-september. But, just to be safe I'm saying Oct 1 because it will definitely be out then. But if you're just dying for it, start checking around at your local bookseller in mid-september. :)

I found the book at Half Price Books in Minnepolis, Minnesota in June! I had no idea what is was, went scrounging online, asked about it when i placed my order for more patterns, didn't find much info but was just TOOOOOO PSYCHED. It had to have been a sample or something from the publisher as there is a pocket in the front and there was nothing in it. But the book is intact and for me being so into Jenny's design's and embroidery in general, this was a great find!
Otherwise, everyone should get this book, the patterns are awesome, and are easy to organize once you use them and there are just TONS of things to use. I have a few folks to buy it for for birthdays too! Thank you for putting it together and giving us one more thing to create with! :)

I'm amazed that it's already appearing on shelves! Good luck if you can find these super early-bird copies. I know Art Star (http://www.artstarphilly.com) in Philadelphia has a bunch, and I signed them all while there last weekend.

I'd love to hear what you think of the book. These designs are a wee bit tamer, and I made a point to include some really simple designs that children could do (cars! trucks!), but I put in all the things people have been asking for. Some of my favorites, that I can't wait to see someone put on a receiving blanket, are the baby heads. That's right, I said baby heads.

I requested that my library purchase the book and they just sent me an e-mail saying they will order it as soon as it's out. Whoo hoo! Gotta spread that goodness around to the library community too. :)

I also have an October b-day. Yay!

I'm glad I'm not the only one with the "But I want to keep it PRISTINE!" feeling.  I even considered just tracing onto parchment paper with a transfer pencil so that I didn't have to cut it up.  Everything is so cool, especially the BABY HEADS.  And the aliens.  And, well.  You get it.  This book totally rocks.  I especially like that it's spiral bound, so that I can just leave it open to whatever stitch I'm practicing on.  And the "Stitching Lessons" page?  Genius.  It's like a sampler, but ... well, not so ducky.

I'm raring to make some of those cars into hearses or Spidermobiles or something!  ha ha!

I JUST GOT MY BOOK YESTERDAY!!!!!!!! YAY!!! I bought it at Books-A-Million here in SC. The only copy they had :o I was so excited (and I still am)! The book is amazing and Jenny answered lots of requests for new patterns... There's TONS of new patterns in this book that you can cut out and use right away! I'm also wishing I could've bought another copy just so I can keep this one in perfect condition :D I love the directions she included, the project idea pictures are beauuuutiful, the introduction was really fun to read, and she even gave a shout-out to us Craftster.org members!

If you haven't bought this book or ordered it yet, buy it as soon as you can! You WON'T be disappointed, honestly. It's so cool!

EDIT: I forgot to mention.... I love the awesome little pockets on the inside of the front & back covers.. you can store your transfers you already cut out inside them! They'll come in handy!

I just got mine today, and I love it! I actually bought it at Borders, but I did see it in my college bookstore this morning. Glad to see it in so many places!

There are so many great things to do with the patterns. As much as I love your other, more elaborate/unusual patterns on the site, I like that these can be used for so many things. I'm working on the "sampler" right now just to try out the new stitches and get back on the embroidery horse. I'm going to show this book to all my friends who may be interested in starting embroidery at all. It's a wonderful starting place! Thanks again, Jenny! :)

[squeal!] I love the book!!  when I got it, I sat in the parking lot and looked at ALL the designs (nerdy, I know, but I just couldn't wait!)  I LOVE the range of patterns.   (I especially the swans...and the ice creams).  I work at a preschool and I got the idea to use Sublime Stitching patterns as art patterns for them...get 'em hooked while they're young, ya know?  (I'll have to snap a pic of a Sublime-inspired toddler art project, tee hee.)

I got mine today at Borders :-)
I have to say...you can't really say enough awesome things about this book....I have been trying hard to work and not flip through the patterns again this afternoon.....
but all the wonderful patterns will leave you just overflowing with ideas....  :-)

Plus I like the stitch guide...like most I learned a little from someone and a lot from just doing my own thing, but I love that this book not only says that however you do it is cool, it also gives some great how to info.

SO thanks Miss. Hart for dragging me back to the embroidery needle.   :D

Also noticed that amazon online/borders had no review yet.... I stink at writing reviews...but I know book sales can be improved with reviews....and I really want to support a designer who not only does cool stuff, but is also pretty active in the community.....(hint from miss. buttinski here, sorry if I am presumptious ::) )

Finally, I just checked the status and it shows that it was delivered.  Can't wait to dive in when I got home.  I actually saw it at Borders over the weekend, and browsed through it in the store, but I tried not to look at it too much so I'd enjoy it more when my copy arrived  :D

Bought mine from Amazon and it arrived this morning! And you wonder why I am not working today ....

It is just impossible to look at all those pages of transfers and not be flooded with ideas. I like that there's something for everybody. who else puts flowers and mariachi bands in the same book?

Now off to Amazon to write a review. And thank you Jenny Hart!!!

I actually left work early when I saw mine was delivered!   :D  Yay for online delivery tracking, further lowering worker productivity!  (I did have a cold too though, so I used that as my excuse).  I am so happy to see all the doggies and the cute prancing kitty cats and the foods and the tea-time stuff... I have so many projects in mind!

Yay, got mine today, days before Amazon said I was supposed to!  It's a bright spot in my infected sinus day.  Unfortunately, projects are going to have to wait until tonight, after I get the icky grad school crap out of the way. :(

I'm really excited to see the Scottie dogs and the kittens!  The birds may be the first to find their way onto something though, however...  Hmm, maybe in blue on a handkerchief for a bride-to-be I know?

So many great patterns and ideas, as always, Jenny!  Thanks!

I got my copy today. There was much delighted squealing when I saw the owls. When I expressed the desire to create an entire set of bedding accented with these little raptors, my mom rubbed her temples and in her "here she goes, again," way, to which I've become so accustomed.  ;D
I also love the sparrows. And the racecars, trucks and dragsters are perfect for the baby boy in my life.

Thanks so much, Jenny. You rule!

Found mine by accident at Borders this past weekend. I bumped into a friend and just happened to see the book while we were talking. I pulled it out and said in a sort of reverence, "The Book!". Then we started screaming and jumping up and down in the middle of the book store. Spent the entire weekend embroidering and pretty much every spare minute that I'm not at work.

Wow! I haven't looked at this thread yet- THANK YOU everyone! I'm so happy you like the book! It took a loooong time for me to get all those designs together. Phew!

I found one copy of the book at my local Border's today and was about to buy it when I noticed the contents were upside down!  Jenny: did you know there was a problem with the printing?

Ha! Was going through a stack of about 50 copies at a book-signing, and came across one like that (with the cover on upside-down). I was definitely perplexed when I saw that. You could return it I'm sure, or keep it as an oddity!  ;D Anyone else get one of these topsy-turvy books? Fortunately it doesn't affect the contents....

Again, thanks everyone for such wonderful feedback on the book. My master plan of turning unsuspecting crafters into embroider fanatics is working! It's working I tell you! MWahhHAahahaaahAHAHAA!   Ahem.

Haha, it's so true! I came to the site just looking for help with handbag making, now I've fallen upon this thread and want to learn how to embroider. I ordered 2 of your books yesterday online. After all these positive reviews, I'm even more excited to get my copies!!

Hooked! See how that happens? That made my day.

Hey! Psst: I *finally* have the book up on the website (http://www.sublimestitching.com/sublimebook.html), if for some strange reason you would like a signed copy. I'm going to announce it via my newsletter tomorrow, and I don't have a ton in stock.. soo you might want to put an order in before I have to mark it "Temporarily Out of Stock" like I always have to do with the Stitch-It Kit (http://www.sublimestitching.com/stitchitkit.html). Good problem to have. I thought I'd tip you all off here first!  ;)

I just got my book tonight!!! Jenny- There are a bajillion very cute patterns in there! You outdid yourself this time.
It was the last one on the shelf in Barnes&Noble so I get to the check out (clutching my book with a death grip) and inform the girl (I'm pretty sure she was 12) that I took the last one...
12 year old: Did you want more?
me: No, but I took the last one, you should tell your manager to order more
12 year old: um, the system will reorder another copy automatically
me: Only 1 copy?? You need a lot more, this is a great book!
12 year old yawns and asks "debit or credit ma'am?"

My efforts were lost on this one!

forks aplenty, and equal time for knives and spoons too. my daughter thinks i should embroider them onto napkins, or, alternately, onto a tablecloth as a table-setting guide. move over, miss manners...

I'm in awe. After I finally got to look through each and every page, I was folding laundry, daydreaming of what I'd put on each item. What fun!
