cherry tree Quilling is an art form that uses narrow strips of paper coiled into circles and other shapes, and affixed to an object or paper to create an image or design. It can be used for 2D works, such as cards, frames, etc, or 3D works as a type of paper sculpture. Quilling goes back to the Renaissance, when it was used to decorate bibles, manuscripts and religious artifacts created by monks. In those early days they used the trimmed edges of gilt (gold leafed) paper from bibles and manuscripts. Later, aristocratic ladies throughout Europe used quilling to pass the time and create beautiful objects to decorate the home.

Today quilling is again becoming popular. You can purchase quilling paper in many colors in many well stocked craft stores, paper stores, and online. There are some amazing examples of quilling here on Craftster. Here are just of few we really love.
