lady adventurer The world of Steampunk began as a genre of literature. In the 1980’s and early 90’s authors influenced by the works of HG Wells, Jules Verne, and other 19th century writers began to create a new genre of fiction describing a world of steam powered technology combined with neo-Victorian fantasy. This fictional world has expanded to become a whole subculture and aesthetic, consisting of a blend of neo-Victorianism, futurism, and pure fantasy. Imagery includes airship/dirigible traveling air pirates in reimagined Victorian dress and goggles, sometimes with influences from anime or cyberpunk style, such as large, colorful hair falls.

Craftsters love Steampunk because it’s very creative, and it’s an aesthetic that values detailed craftsmanship, originality and fine details, which are all things many craftsters also love and respect. It’s also just really, really fun! Some Craftsters create elaborate outfits, while others enjoy creating and engineering fantastic tools, vehicles, and gadgets. Others use the influence of Steampunk in their art works or home decor. Whether full-on Steampunk or just adding small touches such as jewelry or accessories, the Steampunk look can fit into almost any style.
