Most of us are probably familiar with what a shrine is, but what about an art shrine? Art shrines are art tributes to a person, place, theme or idea. They’re usually three dimensional, but can also be flat.

If you look in the Craftster tag cloud you’ll find shrine is pretty popular in these parts! And there are shrines for every taste here.

You can find shrine bases at various craft suppliers, but then some use Altoid tins or even matchboxes as a base to build in. Most shrines created are often in 5, 3 or even 1 inch sizes. This takes miniature crafting to a whole new level.

This Shakespeare Shrine by Mistress Jennie is just full of incredible in details.

Look at all the little books in there that even have the titles on the spine!

Now who doesn’t love a good clown now and again? Especially when it is one by rackycoo and a clown shrine to boot! It is a win for sure.

The clown has strings like a marionette. Very cool idea.

This Dia de los Muertos matchbox shrine by microjivvy has a special element. It has a skeleton in a purple dress holding it.

Amazing how she even made sure you could still open the matchbox drawer and put stuff in there as well.

The previous shrines have covered themes, people and ideas beautifully. This next one is very personal. Simply called Matchbox of Love Lost by Julianna13.

This shrine is a tribute to her grandparents love and marriage. Using sentimental items she created this lovely keepsake.

Art shrines open the door for fun, homage and creativity. Hope you will be inspired to try your hand a art shrines, and post your project here for us to enjoy.
