cow I just saw this on Mother Earth News, and it looks really cool, and easy, too! You can make your own butter and buttermilk following their instructions. It even explains how to make flavored butters. I think rosemary butter on corn or potatoes sounds fantastic – and perfect for grilling over the holiday weekend!

When I was younger we decided to make butter one day. You put heavy cream in a jar with some ice cubes and shake the crap out of it for like eleven million hours. Needless to say that got old really fast, so we took a section of pvc pipe, put it through the part where the arms meet the base on a treadmill and let our butter roll on the treadmill (the pipe kept it from falling off). That was probably one of the best ideas ever, and the butter was amazing!

When I was in kindergarten we made butter in class for our “Stone Soup” feast. Our teacher (my wonderful mommy) had cream in a big, sealed jar with a marble in it, and we sat in a circle and took turns shaking the jar. We even had a song- “Go cream go, come butter come, shake shake shake, butter it will make” I don’t remember how many times we had to pass it around the circle, but it was really good butter.
