fireworksL October 17, 2009 is Diwali, the Hindu, Sikh, and Jain Festival of Lights. The holiday celebrates the victory and homecoming of Rama after a 14-year exile in the forest. Upon his return, the people of Ayodhya (the capital of his kingdom) welcomed him with rows of brightly lit lamps. Now Diwali is a national holiday in India. It is celebrated with new clothes, festivals, delicious sweets, the lighting of clay pot lamps, fireworks, and other bright lights and festivities. We wish you a happy Diwali!
