Alternative Christmas Trees

If, for any reason, you wish you had a Christmas tree but don’t care to have either a real, or a standard artificial tree, then these clever Craftsters have some ideas for you! I love these handmade alternative Christmas trees; they’re whimsical and imaginative, and full of the Christmas spirit.

I am just in love with this “unTree”, by lelyonna. There are lights, garlands, and ornaments, but absolutely no tree. And it’s gorgeous! lelyonna included some instructions and a diagram of how she made this “unTree”. It’s fairly simple, and folds flat for storage.

endlessly_intricate made this tree from roles of recycled paper from magazine pages. It’s bright and colorful, and sports an origami star on top.
This wall tree, created by Queen Mab, was made using fabric circles and temporarily attached to the wall with spray starch. A tree like this would be perfect for decorating in a small- or kid-filled space.
I love the modern look of this wooden tree by Tikli. The ornaments and unique lights are showcased so beautifully.
cute_anarchy really had a great idea when she modified her tower lamp with fabric and ribbon. The triangular shape was perfect! She added lights and ornaments for a one of a kind Christmas tree.

Whether traditional or not, the Christmas tree is often the center of your Christmas decor. Do you have an unusual tree? Please share!

These are wonderful. One of the most memorable Christmases I had growing up in a military family (Dad, USAF 25 years) was the year my parents could not afford a tree. We went to bed on Christmas Eve thinking Santa would never find us. We woke to a handcrafted tree hanging from the French doors – one made from coat hangers covered in green crepe paper and decorated with ornaments and tinsel. My parents had made it, it looked very much like this one. We have no pictures of that tree, but silver tinsel one here brought it to mind. I love it.
