Tropical Room Ideas!!

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas for a tropical bedroom!! Maybe some crafts you can make for your room!Sorry im kindof new here!!

ooh! I JUST saw this idea on an episode of Designer Guys...you can make shades by getting stretcher frames from an art supply place, get the frames the length of the window minus 4 inches and the width minus four inches (ex: a 24 by 36 window would need a 20 by 32 frame) then you take a bamboo shade align the edge of the shade with the inner bevelled edge of the frame and trim the other side to fit (you can trim bamboo shades with scissors...oh and you can buy bamboo shades pertty cheap at IKEA) hot glue the shade to the frame. they sandwiched the shade between 2 frames but you could probably get away with only one if you trim and glue neatly. Next stain the shade the color of your choice (they stained it very dark) Oh, stain the bamboo and the frame. attach 2 hinges to the top of the fram and then attach the hinges to the inside top of your window. This looks really cool, like a safari or tropical hut or something...the shades swing up to open rather then to the side or rolling. I will look for a link to the official instructions in case mine don't make sense. Oh, and also, if you are going for an ernest hemingway, british colonial look, mix really dark stained furniture with crisp white linens, gauzy curtains, and really bright paint colors like pink, turquois, etc. Hope that helps a little! I am working on a tropical/beachy bathroom right now...I am going to take part of a rafia hula skirt and trim it to fit around a little wicker trash can.  I have a pretty good collection of shells that I plan to bleach and display on little whitewashed shelved.  If you have or can find a beat up surfboard, you can make a headboard for a bed out of it...or hang it lengthwise on a wall and put several hooks on it for coats, hats, swim trunks, packs...etc!

you would want one without any bars in the middle. this site had the best pics i could find, and they aren't that great.

I had a tropical bathroom much like LuluB's and I bought a bunch of tropical themed record albums at a thrift store for $2 and then framed them. They were fun and unexpected decorations! My whole tropical bathroom idea started with a tropical shower curtain I got on clearance and the fact that I REALLY needed to paint that room! I choose a bright pool blue with white trim and got pink and green bath mats.

I always thought it would be cool to make a quilt out of Hawaiian prints. You can find all kinds of tropical print fabric at the fabric store.  You could sew them together to make a duvet cover.  I don't even think you need to use total quilt making methods, you could just sew the same size pieces of different tropical fabrics together. It would be kind of like patchwork madras plaid only tropical prints.  I just have always loved patchwork plaid and thought the same concept would be cool using tropical prints.

[Modus Operandi]

Well, I happen to be in a very tropical room. I painted a mural on one of my walls, with a setting sun, sillouette palm trees and a girl sitting on a hill with a surfboard. I have lots of picture frames, mobiles, rugs and things with shells, hula girls and palm trees. One thing I made, was a door stop from a rock, which I painted with the same sunset with palm trees to match the walls, and a lightswitch cover with the same design. I also made some candles by pouring wax into half coconut shells. I made some leis with fake flowers to hang over the corner of my mirror, and stuck random dried palm frans in the tops of the curtains. I wish I had pictures to show, it would be easier to see!
