YAYYY!! So cute! Im a knitter soooo I dont know much about crochet...In knitting terms I would assume you just cast on more decreased for the back and kept knitting and then increased at the end to create the flared sleeves?

Aww poo! I was hoping you knit it( I saw this in "recent post with pictures") so you could share that pattern. I don't crochet. Sad

that looks freaking amazing.  esp because it matches your hair and figure very well.  those look like bell sleeves.  did you do this on kniiting needles? it looks like crochet around the neck.  care to share kinda how you did that pattern?  it look like one long oblong rectangle taken in for sleeves.   my friend has been requesting i make her one like that.  my guess is to cast on a lot of stitches, decrease and then increase right?

please share!

oh wow!! Thank you everyone!

It is crocheted with a very big crochet (doesn't even have the size on it!) it is done in back loop hdc.
Like you said it is a rectangle. Larger for the sleeves and you keep going your way in the middle with always the same amount of stitches. I added some rounds from armpit to armpit cause it was missing something in the neck for me, but you're not obliged to do so.
well, what can I say more... ah, it is not crocheted in the round, it is a rectangle and I used the ladder stitch to sew. Well, that's really easy. I hope it helps!

that is so luscious! i love it...

i have a half finished shrug, okay, i have several, because i have a short attention span (some say no attention span at all), but apparently i just need to do them in a larger hook size and thicker yarn!

just out of curiousity, how much yarn did you use? i'm always so hesitant to buy handspun yarn because i really have no clue what the yards relate to. i'll fall in love with something and it'll say it has 45 yards, but what will that make?

Hey hyena, you were on the hot new topics page. Pretty cool eh?

That is really great yarn.

If you could give a guess, about how much yarn did you need for the shrug both in weight and yardage?

Its really cool that you found someone who made enough yarn to actually make a project out of. It seems that everywhere I look people are selling "one of a kind" 30-40 yard skeins of super bulky thick and thin, too bulky for edgings but not enough for even a scarf, nothing to do but pet it and admire it, it seems.

Love it and I am not a huge shrug fan. How easy do you think it would be for someone that can crochet but cannot follow a crochet pattern very well?

First, thank you very much everyone for your super kind words! It really touches me!  Grin

crafty_dame and AgentAlmost : with 45 yards, you can make a neckwarmer if you have a skinny neck like mine. For that shrug, I used something like 350 yards. It cost me around 70$. I know, it is really expensve, but...the result totally worth it, I cherish my shrug now!lol
And you crafty people knows it, nothing better than something you did yourself, not a poor chinese people for 2 cent/hour, with wonderful material, and plus something no one else will wear!! hehe
The lady who did the yarn do it since 20 years or so. She is a fiber artist and I can tell you, she is awsomelly talented!

shelleibean LOL!! I am dreading my hair, it is not my beadhead (which is worse!). I don't dread the front cause I want to be able to change the color of it. And as I am still dreading the rest, it is a little mess!

knitting_nyxxie As I wrote in my little explanations it is really easy. You start a large rectangle, you decrease regularly, once you have enough lengt to make a sleeve (wrap around your arm), you go on for the lenght of your 2 arms and your back, and you increase at the same level than the beggining. It has to be symetrical. I am not big on explanation, sorry, as I learned crochet in english and knitting in french, it is a big bilingual mess in my vocabulary!

Again thank you everyone, and I was so impressed to be in the hot new topic page! Shocked)
