I have been collecting those clear plastic rings off the tops of a stack of CD's for years but could never think what to do with them.  Then, one of my swap buddies asked for crochet earrings and provided me with a link to ones she liked....

Well, I am a beginner crocheter so I just started "winging" it--every pair started by doing a SC around the clear ring.  From there, I just did basics like SC, DC, chain, etc.  Here is what I came up with for her birthday :

Sage green perle cotton with silver and shell beads:

Cream gold/silver metallic thread with brass sun charms:

Colonial blue perle cotton with seed beads:

I also made a black set but forgot to take pictures.  Maybe she will post in the May Birthday board!

Thanks for looking and thanks to askaboutrpickles for the inspiration!!

Those are so awesome!  I've been saving those plastic rings too, because of course I can never throw anything out!  Now I have been inspired.  If only i knew exactly where they were in my mountain of 'just in case' craft supplies!
Beautiful job!

Thank you guys!  I also can't throw anything else, just in case...ha ha

But, once you get going on these, the possibilities are almost endless--

I am doing a pair using two rings, three rings, half a ring--you get the picture!! ADDICTING!!  Plus, there are tons of colors in the perle cotton and it is relatively cheap!! YAY!

Post pics if you make any using the rings--RECYCLING RULES!!

Have you ever put a brick through a big plate-glass window, Ralph? It makes a wonderful goddamn noise, and the people inside run around like rats in a firestorm. It's fun, Ralph, and a bargain at any price
