I just thought I should add to the discussion I did my first experiment with resin yesterday and resin smells MUCH worse than the melted beads! Even when you take them in and out of the oven and they REALLY stink....I still say resin is more toxic. I kept my little experimental resin project right next to our new air cleaner the whole time.....well as soon as I realized how toxic it was anyway.  What we really need is one of those toxic fume hoods like we had in high school chemistry class!

Anyway.....I thought this might provide some context for the bead melting smell for those of you who are worried about it and have worked with resin.

Pinky has inspired me:

The next time I melt beads, I will be in full uniform:

Chemical Protection Hood w/ breathing-thing:

HIgh tech oven mitts:

and of course something to bring the whole thing together, a little style:

lol.
Actually I was considering investing in the hood, I was afraid to look it up because I didn't want some government spybot in on our crafty ideas, But they're actually not that much in cost like only 20 bucks.

OMG Camilla Ruth! That is SO funny!  I actually have these crazy oven mits with marabou (like a very fine/small feather boa) around the bottom/wrist.  I got them because I don't cook.  I can I just don't.  I should use them for the melted beads!  But then again....I might set the feathers on fire and that would be bad!

has anyone tried melting these with a barbeque grill and metal pans? that way the fumes would be outside.
