Ok, I am making this for a friend who is crazy for Sufjan Stevens andI am by no means an artist, so I thought the at board would be a great place to seek advice. My question is - should I put some stuff in the negative space or leaves it alone?

I kinda like the negative space effect, but I also have ideas for stuff I could put in it. What do you more experienced folks think?

Any advice or criticism would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think it looks pretty sweet just like that but I'm also curious about your ideas of what to put in the negative space.

Another vote for leaving it as it is. I like the simplicity of it, and the way the brush strokes in the negative space radiate out from the focal image. Very nice.

Maybe if you want to see what it would look like with things in the negative space, you could cut your chosen design(s) out of paper, and lay it on top of the painting to see what you think, before you do anything permanent to the artwork you already have. Then you could fiddle around with the placement of any additional stuff till you are sastified with it, or conclude it doesn't need anything else after all.

Thanks so much ladies. I have tried just placing a few objects around - kinda like radiating with the beams, but I dunno. I really do think I kinda like it as is. I might just make another similar piece  and leave the negative space more neutral and put in the things I wanted to add. Make it a companion piece to this one maybe?
Re: what I was going to add - stuff like like a shadows of vintage marching band figures - like they were comming out of or being emmitted from Sufjan - like his head or there abouts, because he is kinda like that. Lots 'o' instruments comming outtah that guy. I have kinda mocked it out in crayon and i do like it, but I think I will leave this one alone - now that have have a few seconds to the motion.
Thanks SO much for the feedback, it really does help me out alot!  Kiss
