I posted this on the reg board and it disappeared really quickly.  Thought i'd try posting it here where people may find it useful.  I love these style of skirts that come just below the knee.  Got the fabric for really good price.

I felt like a 50s housewife wearing it, so i thought the vacuum and martini paired with it were a nice touch.  When i asked my boyfriend to take the pic, he made bad jokes about me not knowing how to even use the vacuum.  Ha ha, i explained that i am a modern housewife:  I have a job, like crafting, cooking, politics and not cleaning.  Anyways, here it is:

I lined the skirt and added three layers of lace that i got for 10 cents a meter.  It peeks out of the bottom of the skirt and when i sit you see the multiple layers of lace.

It ripples really cute in the back.  I used simplicity's 4591 pattern.  It has a zipper dowm the side with a hook and eye at the top.  I had a lot of problems with the sizing, which i rarely do with simplicity patterns.  I had to take it in 2 inches on both sides!!  It was an ego booster, but a pain nonetheless.

Feedback and questions appreciated!  Cheesy

wow lovely! i love the lace ruffles...i put red lace around the bottom of a tweedy pencil skirt i made and it makes the skirt. I love the colours and the shape of yours though. I think if its possible to be the modern crafting political housewife and still get to wera the frilly fities stuff then why not? best of both worlds. The hoovering goes quicker after a martini or two too!  Wink

Dahling! How retro-chic!

Is the waist a waistband or a facing?

Did you hem the skirt first then add the lace?  I'm queazy about attaching lace - scared it will curl or pucker up.

Hey, I recognize the fabric. I fell in love with it last summer. And I made myself about 5 skirts with that same simplicity pattern. Did you get the fabric at textile clearance house?Huh? Have you been there this summer??? I haven't gone yet......have they got a good selection?Huh

It's awesome, in the "giving off June Cleaver vibes" kind of way.

and I totally have a dress in that same fabric, but with red instead of blue.

Wow that pic was totally me.. i am all about dark tops and bright a-line skirts! that looks like a really good pattern to use, i had used my last tried and tested pattern to death (and cats destroyed it, every time i would try to cut a pattern the cats would jump on it.. they thought it was great fun) So i had been looking for another one. Love the lace touch at the bottom. Really inspring!
