This dress reminds me of Janis Joplin's song rollerskates  Grin
and it makes me want to get over my fear of falling and pull out my old barbie skates and roll around the place like in Xanadu!

anyway! I'd been droooling over the incredibly cute pinafores all the aussie designers had been featuring in their S/S campaigns (check out the mercedes australian fashion week on www.vogue.com.au) and had been dying to make one myself. Last weekend I found the perfect material!

It's made of burnt orange heart print jacquard material - fully equipped with oversized teal buttons!

I'm not sure whether to ruche the top so it's like a sweetheart neckline or not (because as you can tell it is quite low already... Tongue
And it also flares out a lot from under the bust so it kinda makes my hips look megawide, not sure how to remedy that  Huh

and although it's pretty cold down here in Melbourne (winters starting to kick in in Aus), I'm planning to wear it over long sleeve tees with leggings  Wink

EDIT: For everyone who wanted the tutorial!  Cheesy It's not that great a tute, its just template shapes, enjoy! please post up yours if you decide to try it, I'd love to see them  Wink

i love that song, and love that dress!!  oh btw, the song isn't janis, it's actually a girl that just went by "melanie".

Wonderful dress. I saw your other post in the Designer Homage area, & it gave me the inspiration to put oversize buttons on the dress I recently made. I decided to save them until my next dress. Great great great job!

It's really, really cute! Love the cut and the buttons. I'll have to check out the pinafores. You miight try keeping it straight down til you get a couple of inches above the hips and then flare out more. Just an idea. Great dress and I love the fabric!!

nice. i'd leave it unruched. but them i'm not a huge fan of the ruche.

i didn't think it made your hips look wide - maybe you just took flattering-angle photos.

i think that the buttons are great as accessories on top - you don't really need the ruching unless you would like to add it.
the lower part looks great as well. you're a woman, you have hips and it's an a-line skirt. that's what an a-line is supposed to do, just embrace it. Cheesy
