I'm in the process of making a crochet hat, the only problem is, it's a loose one, think rasta/newsie/pageboy/dred hat, and I have the crown of it basically finished, but I don't know how to decrease it in such a way that will allow it to stay loose and poofy but making it smaller at the same time. Realize that this is my first project and I am basically self-taught from a couple of images, although I am an intermediate knitter, if that means anything.

Thanks. Smiley

Greetings,

You could try changing the size of your hook (smaller hook=smaller stitches).

Or, standard decreasing for hats is to decrease evenly (just like in knitting) by
crocheting X many stiches, decreasing,
crocheting X many stiches, decreasing,
crocheting X many stiches, decreasing,
and so on around.

Decreases are often done by working 2 stiches together.  If your books don't tell you how or if that isn't working for you, let me know and I can see if any of my hat books have alternate ways of decreasing.
