I was looking at the Twin Cities Craftsters are getting together on May 20, and I really liked the idea. Maybe us Texas craftsters could get together, have a day doing whatever and then craft something, and a clothing swap as well?

That sounds like a lot of fun!

I wish I did have some ideas, but unfortunately I don't.   Actually, I am a bit embarrassed to admit this, but I have yet to actually "get into" Austin (I live on the outskirts of it).  I moved here a little over a year ago, but for some reason I haven't gotten downtown.   I have been dying to get down there, but something ALWAYS comes up.   I know, I know... pretty pathetic. Undecided

I suppose we could meet at a restaraunt.  Or what about a craft fair?  There seems to be a bunch going on around the area.  I wonder if there is anything going on at the Austin Convention Center.  If I remember correctly, there is going to be a bead and Jewelry Show coming up there (although, I'm not sure how many of us would be interested in that).  Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Your not pathetic. I agree-a restaurant would be good. Spiral Diner is an amazing vegan restaurant in Ft. Worth. Or we go to Kalachandji's; on Sunday's (they might do this more than Sunday), they have a free buffet of vegetarian Indian food.(Very good.) (Or any restaurant that is veg-friendly.)

A craft fair sounds nice. But would it cost money? It would be cool to do something that is mostly cheap/free. Or, we could meet at someone's house, (or do this at the restaurant), and we can have a swap, or bring crafts to make. Oh, a what do you guys think of using the Dart Rail/Buses?

Don't forget that Church of Craft meets every month at The Workshop in Austin (though it was suspended during June & July due to me being out of town). All are welcome to come hang out and make stuff.

I live in San Antonio and I would LOVE to get together with other craftsters!!!  And I don't mind the drive to Austin, especially on a weekend.  I have kids in school so, during the week I would have to be home by 3:00.  But if there was anything that started around 10:00am, say, that would work.

Of course...anything in SA would work, too...and Kyle... Wink

Wow, I didn't realize there were so many crafters in the Austin-San Antonio corridor.  I'm originally from Austin (Cedar Park to be exact), but I'm living in San Marcos now for school.

Its a knit and crochet class where you can work on whatever you want. There are beginners to advanced working together. We have a lot of fun. Its $10 for a 2 hour class and supplies are 10% off when you sign up. I got a bunch of yarn last week for $15.

I was at TX State looooooooooong ago...back then it was SWTSU.

Wow!  There are a lot of us craftsters in this general area...I started a new topic the other day for the San Antonio 'area' craftsters...and by that, I mean anywhere within driving distance.

Check out that topic if you'd be willing to go to Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos, New Braunfels, Round Rock...anywhere in this general area.  I'd love to get a Craft 'n Bitch going!

You all ever been to the City-Wide Garage sale here in Austin?  It's only $5, and WELL WELL worth it- I get emails from them everytime they have it, I'll gladly post the info here next time (its one weekend a month, every month at the convention center).

They sell everything from old quilts to vintage clothing to (my favorite part) DOILIES (spelling?)- tables stacked high with them.  Oh, and mountains of old aprons, jackets, slips; the fun is in the digging.  Anyway, with the email you get a coupon for a dollar off admission, too, so I'll try and forward as many as I can to anyone who wants one.  It'd be a good excuse to get in to town, too  Wink.

I'm usually out of town the weekend its on, I don't have very good luck with the schedual synching, but even if you only catch it every few months you can load up on all kinds of good stuff to keep you busy...  I highly recommend looking through the blankets table.  They usually have a ton of quilts that need to be repaired, but look like they were hand made.

I noticed on the website there's a place you can sign up to get email notifications about it- thats when they send you the coupon.  Its good but if you get a lot of things in your bulk mail be sure to put thier email address in your address book.
