Ooh!  A pretty dress for me to wear to Bonnaroo!  I used a pattern for this (can't find it) but ended up making a bunch of changes, especially after I thought I finished it.  Sorry the pictures are so crappy.  My (roommates) camera died so these are all I have.  The giant glare is the flash reflecting off the top of my sewing machine, since that's where I sat it down.  Blahg.

That big wrinkle's not really there, I think it just got a bit jacked up funny during the photo.

Sorry for the boob shot, but it show the colors best.  The zipper came out a little weird, but it was my first try at a zipper and I misunderstood the zipper foot.  All in all, I'm pretty happy with it though.  Yay!  Thanks for looking!

Ooooooh, I love your dress. I am a busty/large girl and I never thought of wearing something strapless. This makes me rethink the idea. I must have a dress similar to this...It's beautiful.  Grin

Thank you so much for all the compliments!  I feel special  Grin

With my big boobs, I too haven't really had a lot of experience with strapless tops.. I read once in a magazine that no one over a C cup should wear tube tops, and I think I kind of took that to heart... However after making this dress and a few other strapless tops, I've got to say.. It's fabulous!  It feels AWESOME not to have straps digging into my shoulders!  The dress just slip just a little, but as long as I make sure it's up nice and high it the back and I don't jump up and down, it actually does pretty good! (I've made some apron tops that tie in the back, and they stay up really well!) I'm thing about maybe running some elastic right through the very top of the bodice.. I think that might help it stay up more securely.

As for a tute, I did use a pattern for this, New Look 6588 veiw C (had to search for it! Smiley) I got it at walmart for under $2.  I ended up taking the front drape off and taking in the top a whole lot though.  There was a crazy amount of ease!  And the drape looked.. well.. terribe.  It made my boobs look even more massive.

I found the link to the pattern, in case anyone's interested:

http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/patterns/sewingpatterns.pl?patternid=12256

It's quite simple.  I'm note sure if I can post detailed information about the pattern because its still for sale, but it's really just a simple bodice made with three pieces (front, 2 side/back) and a whole bunch of bell shaped pieces for the skirt.  11, I believe.  If anyone else gets the pattern and makes it, or tries to draft a pattern herself, I would love to see it!

i think that the elastic would add an extra "peace of mind" and also allow an extra jumping.
there are some elastic bands that are wide, transparent (normally), and that sort of sticks to the skin..  like the elastic used on those 7/8 stockings.  they aren't very resistant, so i dint know if you would need a "heavy duty" elastic cause I'm DEFINATLY no boob expert (got wee boobs).

I bet this would be a really easy dress to size up, all you'd have to do is make the bodice bigger and add extra panals to the skirt.  Just an idea  Cheesy

Thank you!!  FIVE MORE DAYS!!!!  AHHHH!!  I'm so excited I could freakin DIE!  Heh.  I made this dress with the intention of wearing it to Bonnaroo, and I still may, but I've about finished up a pair of shorts I'm planning on wearing with my owl apron top.  Once I muddy up one outfit I'll change to the other, I suppose.  Last year I spent the whole three days in a patchwork skirt I made, but ended up pulling to over my boobs and safety pinning it like a tube dress..  It was comfy though!  Comfy and filthy!  YAY MUD!

BONNAROOOOOOO!  I'll be in the tent with the Double-E flag..  Like so (drawn in paint in about 2 seconds..  so crappola):

Oooh love the fabrics!  It is flattering, and I'm also shocked that the top stays up!  I watched a thing on one of those celeb interview shows and they said the key to things staying on/up/in place was in the construction of the gowns...I'm no gown designer, but if structure in the bodice under the bust is all it takes, we could all go strapless.  In theory.  I'm too chicken to try it, so I'd need backup straps too.  LOL

I love all the lovely colorful prints and how you put them together. This is a dress that could be used in different seasons with the right accessories. When I first saw it I thought of Mardi Gras because of the upper colors. The more you look at it the more ideas of what it could be worn for and with.
