I think mostly everyone uses the boards. Considering this is pixel art, you'd want your beads to be very straight and not just kinda freehanded. Besides, without the pegboard,I think it would be hard to move them and iron the beads without disturbing your pattern.

Most of the older NES art are 16x16 pixels, but when you start getting into the later stuff that was released, they get bigger than that. I bought the 6 inch squares (they are 29x29 pegs) that you can combine with other squares to make a bigger one.

And while I'm posting, does anyone have any tips on ironing the beads? I like how the middle of the pattern kinda gets squared off when you melt the beads (if you melt them quite a bit), but then the edges stay round. (if this makes any sense to anyone... Smiley) Maybe I'll take a pic to explain when I get home...

I think I get what you mean.  Do you like the edges staying round or you dont like that?

I find when I iron them, I basically iron one side until they just start to stick to the ironing paper.  And then i peel it off the board, and take another piece of iron paper and work on the opposite side.  Then I just kinda flip back and forth, ironing for small amounts of time.  I kinda like the really pixelated look, so I try not to flatten them out too much.

I know that probably doesnt help you  Tongue  But thats Sara's Ironing Tip of the Day!

If you dont like the rounded sides, I would just try and (CAREFULLY!) iron the sides to get them flatter if you prefer.  I have never dont this, so I have no idea if this works, but I mean, it technically should right?
